Nothing Tastes As Good As Slim Feels Part 3

1000 replies

knottyhair · 24/04/2011 07:31

Hope it's OK that I've started this new thread, but the old one is now full! Not sure if my entry went on the old one, but anyhoo - let's keep going people! Here's to eating tasty healthy food, finding and sticking with exercise we enjoy and getting fitter, stronger & hopefully slimmer! xx

OP posts:
Guitargirl · 10/06/2011 07:47

justaminute - how far are you off your target? You must be pretty close to it now! Think how cross you would have been if you'd put any on. You're doing so much exercise, maybe it's muscle you're building, do your clothes fit better even though the scales say the same?

I had a 5.25lb loss this morning but that is over two weeks as I didn't weigh myself last week. Mind you I think most of the loss was this week as I wasn't great last week on hols.

And my ankles have seized up after my lamented running attempts. I could barely walk last night Hmm.

fedupofnamechanging · 10/06/2011 07:54

Guitargirl, well done on your loss and hope your ankles recover soon.

jam, agree that you probably have more muscle now.

I am 10st 8.8 lbs, which is a loss since yesterday of 4 oz, but an over all gain for the last couple of weeks. Tbh, I'm grateful it's not worse after the complete rubbish I've been eating for the last couple of weeks. I'm feeling happier now that I'm mentally back on track.

knottyhair · 10/06/2011 08:48

Morning! JAM, sorry you're disappointed, but I'd echo what Guitargirl says. I've gained a quarter of a pound this week and I'm not sure why! Could be AF I suppose but I thought I'd done OK. I'm now 9 stone 8.75lb - would love to get to 9 stone. Oh well, onwards & upwards! Guitargirl, great loss Smile! Hope your ankles are OK, sounds painful. Karma, glad you're feeling more positive Smile.

I've already Shredded this morning as I've got my friend's 3 year old DD later this morning. Trying to remember what you do with a 3 year old!! Going to have cereal and skimmed milk for breakfast, minestrone for lunch and pork steaks, potatoes and salad for tea. Must try harder.... Good luck everyone else! x

OP posts:
BelleEnd · 10/06/2011 08:50

Well, I am about 11.1 and a half, which is half a pound on. To be expected, really. NOt going to get too upset about it. AF still hasn't turned up, so I'm hoping that when it does, at least two stone wll magically melt away Wink

Going to be good today though I am planning a homemade wholemeal pizza for tea. I borwsed through Delia's vegetarian book last night and nicked a few recipes- I shall report back if they're any good.

Shaxx · 10/06/2011 09:29

Sts again

Well done Guitargirl. Thats an excellent loss for 2 weeks!
Hope you're ankles get back to normal soon.

Well done karma. A loss is a loss!

Knotty I can give you advice for a 3 yr old boy - lots of cars, trains, Thomas and Cars on tv/dvd and anything to do with dinosaurs or water or lots of dinosaurs and cars IN water. Probabaly not much help Smile

BelleEnd good attitude. Just look forward to a loss next week Smile

I've had porridge for breakfast and have to pop into the supermarket to get stuff for lunch and dinner. was thinking soup and chicken fajitas.

No exercise as I'm doing my 5km parkrun tomorrow morning.

Hope you all have a good day.

justaminute · 10/06/2011 09:55

Thanks for trying to cheer me up ladies, sadly I?m nowhere near target. I joined this thread in October at 11-12 at the start of this year I was 11-9 I am now 11-13. Not exactly progress is it?! I?m 5ft 9 and would love to be back to 10.5 where I was three years ago, 1 year after dc2.

I?m exercising more than last year and feel fitter for it, my clothes are fitting slightly better but I?m still a 14/16 bottom. I hate clothes shopping.

My alcohol consumption is less than last year. Dh and I used to share 1 or 2 bottles of wine per week it is now 1 or 2 per month (maybe less). I am more conscious of what I am eating and try to compensate for my blowouts. This week I have averaged 1500 calories per day and done lots of exercise why aren?t I losing?

Guitargirl · 10/06/2011 10:42

JAM - it must be the muscle. There's a woman at work who's training for a 15k run next month and she was saying the other day that she is putting on weight despite eating better.

LadyBuzz · 10/06/2011 13:20

Hello ladies, sorry I have been MIA but i've had a manic week this week.
today I have lost 2lbs so I am over the moon on one hand but on the other reminding myself thats its 2lbs I have already lost a troughed back on Grin

karma just like you i'm a bit peeved that if i'd stayed focused i would also have been about half a stone lighter.

Current weight is 11st 7lb but i'm only 5'2 so it shows everywhere.

shaxx would you like my DS2? he would LOVE that sort of day!

I have much admiration for all you runners guitargirl you could have been describing me!
Back to the gym next week and staying focused and in the zone.

dinkystinky · 10/06/2011 13:53

Am getting the hump as for the second bloody day in the row did huge post only for computer not to post it but eat it instead - fingers crossed this one gets on.

Summary of post is

  • now 10 4.5 so 0.5lb gain
  • well done losers
  • guitargirl, check you're wearing the right kind of trainers for running: running in the right trainers is a revelation
  • shaxx, JAM - keep the faith you will get there! In the meantime, shake things up - breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper, try different exercise (to shock your body as it gets used to things you do all the time) and stay well away from those scales. Exercising, eating better, drinking less - these are all good long term sustainable things to do for your health so stay on it.

Right best press post and see if this one comes on the thread...

dinkystinky · 10/06/2011 13:54

Hurrah, it posted. So its just my long posts the computer doesnt like...

Shaxx · 10/06/2011 14:29

I can't breakfast like a king. If I start the day with a big meal, I want to eat more for the rest of the day!

JAM you must be like me. I can only lose weight if I am really strict. I think I'm going to have to be this week.
I'm going to try and follow the principles of a low gi (Rosemary Conley) type diet.

LadyBuzz well done on your loss.

Dinky well done on your gain! I think only 0.5 is pretty impressive after having been in NY!

dinkystinky · 10/06/2011 17:23

Ok - breakfast like a pauper, lunch like a king then! But aim to have fewer calories in your main evening meal and see if that makes a difference.

Shaxx · 10/06/2011 17:49

I've done that before and it does make a difference.
I think I need breakfast, lunch and sup like a pauper Sad

I'll try not eating anything after 7 and having a carb curfew at 4.

I've had dinner now (salmon and veg) and will try not to eat anything now til breakfast.

BelleEnd · 10/06/2011 17:52

Hmmm it's a bit ironic that I'm posting after you said that dinky, as I've had the biggest tea in the world after a good day!

I am exactly like you Shaxx- If I skip breakfast, I stay on track for the rest of the day, but if I have breakfast, my hunger is kick-started and I eat a lot more.

All bran
quorn sausage salad with 1 piece of rye bread
Home-made wholemeal pizza with salad- But I ate more than half a large pizza (about double what I needed) and made too much, so I'll have some for tomorrow's lunch, but won't eat half as much! It was delicious though- Can't remember the last time I had cheese.

Two people told me that I really shouldn't lose any more today. So I'll use that as an excuse for the pizza. :) I think I'd be quite happy to stay around the 11st mark now, I think that would be sensible for me.

knottyhair · 11/06/2011 08:56

Morning! BelleEnd, if 2 people have said you shouldn't lose anymore, maybe they have a point Smile ? A nice thing to hear! What's your height, if you don't mind me asking? Shaxx, hope your run goes OK today, and it stays dry, or do you like running in the rain? JAM, hope you're feeling more positive today, and I bet Guitargirl is right about building muscle. LadyBuzz, well done on losing 2lbs! Dinky, half a pound after your trip to NY! That's pretty good going!

I've Shredded early this morning, as I'm walking into town with DS in a mo so we can sit in a model shop for god knows how long whilst a nice man with a mohican helps him paint one of his Lego figure's visor a different colour. Apparently it's very important Grin. Had cereal & skimmed milk for breakfast, will grab something low-cal in Pret or M&S for lunch and making tuna burgers and salad for tea. Hope you all have a good day xx

OP posts:
Shaxx · 11/06/2011 10:39

Phew have done my 5km run this morning!
The rain held off thankfully. I love doing that run as the park is really nice and its lovely running through the wild area and seeing the little ducklings around the pond :)

BelleEnd thats great that you've been told you shouldn't lose much weight. You must look lovely and slim now Envy :)

Knotty well done on early shredding. Lol at painting a lego figures visor Grin I can't believe thats someones job. Lucky them.

Have had seeded bread toast with butter and marmite + 2 quorn sausages and a yoghurt for breakfast (was starving!)
Lunch is soup
Dinner will be chicken curry and rice.

knottyhair · 11/06/2011 13:55

Well done Shaxx

OP posts:
BelleEnd · 11/06/2011 17:37

Well, I am finding it pretty hard to maintain this weight knotty, so I don't think losing more is on the cards really. I am 11st1.5 and 5"11. So ideally I would be 10st8, but I'm not too arse adbout it. I am fascinated by the lego painting, by the way! I think our Dses would get on well... :)
Shaxx 5k- I am Shock and Envy. You must be really fit. I have a lot of wobbly bits, I really should start running, but I have an insane amount of work and mumsnetting to do at the moment. (Excuses: I know!)

Having another eat-like-a-biffer day today, but have been at the village school all day helping with tidying the yard and garden- They have an inspection next week- And that has given me an appetite. There's no way I've burned off the extra calories, but I'm going to be EXTRA good from tomorrow until Friday so that I can lose a pound by weigh-in day.

All bran
Last night's wholewheat pizza with salad (faaar too much of)
1 cereal bar
Home made wholewheat bread roll with salad and chilli tuna.

Hope you're all having a nice day!

knottyhair · 11/06/2011 18:36

Wow, BelleEnd, you sound about right to me! If I reach my target weight I'll have the same BMI as you do now.

Oh and I'm about to order Jillian's cookbook

OP posts:
Shaxx · 11/06/2011 20:32

Thankms for pom poms Smile
BelleEnd I am actually fairly fit. I ran the 5km but I did have to stop 3 times for short breathers.
Exercise is not an issue for me. I actually love exercising. I love running in the fresh air, I love spending time by myself in the gym, I love joinining others for classes. I just can't seem to sort out my diet!
Its such an issue for me and we all know weightloss comes mainly from diet.

Knotty I never knew your idol had a cookbook! If you end up religiously following her diet like you do her exercises, there'll be nothing left of you! Smile

I've eaten a bit more than I should have today but I put that down to running the 5km this morning. I have to get back to careful eating tomorrow.

fedupofnamechanging · 11/06/2011 21:06

Hi all,

have been okay food wise today - not perfect but not awful either. Had

1 egg and ryvita for breakfast
Dime bar and tin of veg soup for lunch
Some roast chicken and 2 ryvitas for dinner
Some slush puppy because I was at soft play today and was so busy watching the DC's that I drank some without thinking of calories.

I will probably eat a Frys' choc creme later if I can't resist.

I am so Envy Shaxx that you like exercise and desperately wish I did

knottyhair · 12/06/2011 09:23

Karma, I love exercise as well (I didn't 6 months ago, apart from walking!). Running isn't for me, but I love Jillian because there's lots of variety and it's tough but short (ish!). It's just a question of finding something that suits your lifestyle and that you like. I never thought I'd be the sort of person to work out every day, but now I definitely get twitchy if I don't get to do it for some reason. Shaxx, I think running 5k definitely gives you the right to eat a bit more!
Just done 4 circuits of BFBM and the standing mountain climbers were a killer! Had some oaty bread & peanut butter for breakfast, pea & ham soup for lunch and spaghetti with "spanish flavours" (peppers and a bit of chorizo in other words!) for tea. Trying to be good today as having a day off tomorrow. We're going to London for DP's 40th (actually on Weds but DS has inset day tomorrow). We're taking DP on a speed boat trip up the Thames as a surprise, then going to Chinatown for early dinner. Don't think I'll be sticking to my allowance! Have a good day everyone! xx

OP posts:
Shaxx · 12/06/2011 10:08

Karma I agree with Knotty that everyone needs to find an exercise that suits them. Try some different types of exercise. You may come across one that you enjoy (I even did an ice skating course earlier this year. I loved it)
It so good for you and its true what they say about all the 'feel good' hormones that you get. It's a buzz and you can get hooked on it Grin

Knotty Happy 40th to your dh. You've got a great day planned for him.

Today I've had porridge for breakfast, tomato soup for lunch and not sure about dinner yet! I really need to plan my meals.

Have spinning at 6.30 tonight.

Have a good day everyone.

fedupofnamechanging · 12/06/2011 14:43

knotty, I hope you and your family have a lovely day today and that the weather is better in London than it is here in Wales!

Shaxx, I used to like going to the gym. Back before I had DD, I used to drop my boys of at school and walk to the gym, do an hour, go for coffee and a mooch round the shops on the way home. It just slotted into my day. However, now I have DD at home, we have moved to a new town and the gym is not so easily accessible and I have gotten out of the habit. I bought the cross trainer because I used to like it at the gym, but I must admit I am easily bored.

Hearing everyone talk about how much they like running, I think I may try it out and see how I go. I am so unfit though, that I am put off by the thought of doing anything and yet I know that I need it more than ever because I am so unfit.

Am being good today with food. Had pineapple for breakfast, soup for lunch and will be having vegetarian chilli for dinner. I do allow myself chocolate every day, but am making sure I account for it.

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday. We are having a DVD and chill out day.

dinkystinky · 12/06/2011 16:27

Afternoon all. Knotty - you are a true Jillian fanatic! Let us know what the cookbook is like though Wink

Karma - I used to hate exercise for years (basically secondary school onwards where sport was compulsory) but discovered kickboxing 8 years ago and was hooked. Had to give it up when I knew I was pregnant with DS1 but by then I was hooked on the exercise bug and found I really enjoyed the gym and classes (not all of them - cant really stand spinning or step and not the world's biggest fan of running but can force myself to do it if I have to). It really is a case of finding what works for you. And it is an Ossom (to use a Jillian'ism) stress release which I find I really need with my job.

Knotty -hope you had a fund day today. V jealous of your chinatown tea and speedboat trip!

We went strawberry picking - in the torrential rain - in Buckinghamshire today and then went to one of my oldest friend's house for lunch - she has 3 kids one of whom is the same age as DS1 so the kids had a great time. And I only had one glass of wine. The rest of the lunch was not so zonelike though.
