knottyhair · 24/04/2011 07:31

Hope it's OK that I've started this new thread, but the old one is now full! Not sure if my entry went on the old one, but anyhoo - let's keep going people! Here's to eating tasty healthy food, finding and sticking with exercise we enjoy and getting fitter, stronger & hopefully slimmer! xx

:o knottyhair Your DH looks more like Mr Marini than mine... Mine looks a bit like John Malkovich crossed with Delboy :o

Right, I have a question. I've never counted calories before, but thought I'd have a look. Is there a website you use to check, one with a really good comprehensive list? And also, do you all weigh your food? Am Shock at the calorie counts in fruit I have found...

knottyhair · 06/06/2011 16:49

Ooh BelleEnd, I quite like John Malkovich Grin! Come on then people, which famous person does your DH/DP resemble? Mine has been told either a young Paul McCartney or Matt Allbright Hmm. And various turkish hotel staff who aren't famous.

With regards to calorie counting, I track mine with www.livestrong.com which has some info on amounts of calories, I think other people use www.myfitnesspal.com which is similar I think. But I often just google "calories in ...." and frequently get sent to www.weightlossresources.co.uk , or I just look on the packaging if there is any. HTH.

fedupofnamechanging · 06/06/2011 16:52

Sorry knotty I did weigh between fridays. Thought I'd better face the bad news now rather than later.

BelleEnd · 06/06/2011 18:24

Hands off John Malkovich, knottyhair , I do believe he is mine Wink

Well, I had a few tiny slip ups, but nothing big. I feel fat today- A result of soon-to-arrive AF, I reckon. Also need to get myself some new knickers- The ones I'm wearing are an 18, and they're baggy and minging! :o

all bran
leftover ginger prawn thing on 1 and a 1/2 pieces of homemade wholemeal bread.
An orange, an apple, a handful of cheerios, and DS2's leftover crusts from his peanut butter sandwich Blush
Jacket potato with tuna salad.

I feel as if I could eat a horse now, and I've just had tea. A bloody big chocolate shire horse, to be precise, with haribo eyes, and a tail of fizzy strawberry laces. And he would poo the chocolate and peanut butter brownies that Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall made in this week's Observer (Ugh. I am similarly grossed out and food-turned-on.) :o

knottyhair · 06/06/2011 18:30

Grin BelleEnd at your horse!

OP posts:
fedupofnamechanging · 06/06/2011 18:31

lmao @ Belle's horse

Shaxx · 06/06/2011 19:13

Lol at Belles horse. I could just sink my teeth into such thick chocolate. Sounds divine.
Spinning was great. Its a class with exercise bikes where you do a variety of sitting and standing cycling to loud music with mad instructors making you 'increase the resistance!'. Its brilliant.

Dinky welcome back! Sounds like you had a brill time. Did you get much shopping done?

JAM don't worry about the dairy milk. At least you found out its not that great. Just the thought of frozen curly wurlies makes my jaw ache. Your recipe sounds delicious. I'll definitely try that one.

Karma tracking your cals really works but remember most of the cals have to come from good, healthy stuff (even if 1/2 a dime bar has the same cals as an orange Grin)

Knotty does your handsome half Italian dh make Italian food? I don't think my dh resembles anyone famous. I'll have to have a think...

Today was good for food (it always is at work. I'm usually so busy, I don't have time to munch and we have a good canteen with yummy salads and soups etc)
No exercise tonight though I will do some crunches and push ups in front of Desparate Housewives that I recorded from last night.

fedupofnamechanging · 06/06/2011 19:36

I'm being good tonight shaxx. Will be eating beef and veg casserole. Forgot to take the meat out of the freezer though, so might be eating it for tomorrows breakfast at this rate!

I saw a play station 3 zumba game (not sure if game is the right word), on the internet. Has anyone tried this? Am not brave enough to dance in public, but was toying with the idea of trying this at home with all the blinds shut

BelleEnd · 06/06/2011 21:01

I WANT CHOCOLATE!

Shaxx · 06/06/2011 21:02

Good going Karma Smile
It feels good to go to bed feeling happy that you had a good diet day Smile

I'm going to do put the tv on, do 15 push ups and 50 sit ups then have some green tea.

Shaxx · 06/06/2011 21:03

Belle get away from that chocolate!
Its just a pile of fat and sugar that will make you feel crap after you've eaten it.
You'll be annoyed, I tell you.

Shaxx · 06/06/2011 21:04

Go brush your teeth instead.

BelleEnd · 06/06/2011 21:13

Ok I just know that there's bloody choc chip snack a jacks in the pantry, and they're delicious and sugary and nice and yum... I've already had an apple to try to fulfill the sugar craving, and am now watching Embarassing Fat Bodies to put myself off... :o

LadyBuzz · 06/06/2011 22:24

I thought I was doing well today then I came here and now I want chocolate too Grin but i'm going to bed instead!
All or nothing here too, once i start there is no stopping me!

Embarrasing fat bodies - Eeeeewwwww makes you get right back in that zone!

Choc chip snack a jacks??? really??? I like the salt and vinegar ones but haven't spotted the choc chip yet!

I did have a tracker the other day and was mightily dissapointed by the tiny size - I remember them being much bigger.

dinkystinky · 06/06/2011 22:33

Belle - have a hot chocolate made with hot water and skimmed milk - may take the edge off your chocolate craving. I have just had 4 yoghurt covered mini pretzels which took the edge off mine.

Karma - give your local class a go. I go to zumba on Monday's after work - it is great and there are about 40 women and a couple of guys of all shapes and sizes who do it. I'd feel a fool doing it on my own at home - being in a class really spurs me on.

Shaxx - had a lovely time in NY but didn't really do any shopping - 3 shopping averse menfolk with me saved my credit card from a bashing. But dh did get a new iPad which I am tapping away on so at least one of us did some bargains shopping (grin)

Today had decaf skinny latte and yoghurt for breakfast, chicken and sweetcorn soup and bread for lunch, chocolate shortbread piece for treat/snack, sea bass and salad for dinner followed by handful of cherries and goats cheese and the aforementioned pretzels for dessert. And did an hour long zumba class. Circuits of pain in the morning so best get to bed!

justaminute · 06/06/2011 23:37

I did it! Level 1 shred, 56 minutes of netball and a 30 minute run, slightly disappointed that I only managed 2.8 miles - silly really as I should be chuffed that I'm still breathing and walking Smile. Hopefully I've made a dent into yesterday's biff. It seems I need to write my intentions on here in order to achieve them, so tomorrow...
I won't eat chocolate
I won't eat cake,
I'll only have one biscuit (got to have something to look forward to)

Belle - Did you beat the chocolate craving? Definitely get yourself some sexy new undies- you deserve a treat after your amazing weight loss efforts. Chuck out those size 18s so that there is no going back.

Knotty - My dh has been likened to Simon Cadell - Is it wrong of me to wish he was more Gilles Marini like?

Must make the effort to climb the stairs to bed before my legs sieze up.

BelleEnd · 07/06/2011 08:49

Wow, justaminute, am totally impressed with your workouts! I would never be able to run for more than a mile.
LadyBuzz The choc chip snack-a-jacks are one of the loveliest things in the world(disclaimer: I have been on a diet for months and most things seem like one of the nicest thing in the world!) Only 62 calories! Am I right that that's less than an orange? :o
Dinkystinky So hang on, you went to NY, and you worked out and didn't spend a fortune? all hail!! :o

Didn't give in to the chocolate cravings. The fat pubis on Embarassing Bodies put me off. That poor woman. :(

knottyhair · 07/06/2011 10:16

Morning! Shaxx, I'm the cook most of the time in this house, although DS likes to have a go, and DP does a mean chicken cacciatore when he has the time. LadyBuzz and BelleEnd, well done on controlling those cravings! Bet you feel good this morning Smile! Dinky, sounds like you're firmly back in the zone after NY! Hope your circuits went well Smile. JAM, Shock at your exercise yesterday! How are your legs this morning?? And aah, Simon Cadell.... you know I've got to.... HI DE HI!!!! Sorry Blush. And I think I need to watch Embarrassing Fat Bodies online...

Just did 4 circuits of NMTZ with 2 min cardio circuits in between each one. I liked it! Having the minestrone I made yesterday for lunch, and sausage noodle stir-fry for tea. Have a good one! xx

justaminute · 07/06/2011 10:36

Ho de ho Knotty Grin. Legs are a bit wobbly, hopefully they?ll be all right for another Shred session tonight ? glutton for punishment.

Belle ? never say never. I was definitely not a runner 4 months ago but I started the couch to 5K programme in February and have been bitten by the running bug. I think it is helping to pull in my stomach muscles.

dinkystinky · 07/06/2011 10:57

Well done JAM - that's a fabulous day of workouts! V impressed. And no wonder you did 2.8 miles in 30 minutes - you'd had a pretty hard workout already. Weirdly running is good for blitzing stomach fat - v good to also do some abs exercises after a run (plank, bicycle, side plank and reverse crunches will do the trick) and you'll see those tummy muscles being pulled back even further.

Well done on your morning work out too Knotty though your jillian addiction makes me laugh.

DH doesnt really look like anyone famous - I get told alot I look alot like Milly from this life (or used to when it was on) only ofcourse abit plumper...

Belle - glad embarrasing bodies put you off the chocolate! Definitely agree with JAM - go get some nice new undies.

BelleEnd · 07/06/2011 18:22

SOD OFF BLOODY SUGAR CRAVINGS! Why won't AF just arrive and put me out of this misery?! I have been eating since 4 o clock and am trying to stick only to good(ish) stuff, but I am soooooo close to baking a batch of flapjacks... Mmm...

Knotty Am agog at your exercise enthusiasm... Respect!

all bran
quorn salad with 1 piece wholemeal toast and half a small baked potato
orange, seeds, raisins, melon and a few cheerios (that's more than a snack isn't it) :(
Bloody lovely fatty delicious corned beef hash with broccoli- Served myself a huge portion, but DS2 (20m) scoffed his own and most of mine, the lovely thoughtful lad.

If I can get through the evening without cracking open the snack-a-jacks, I have reached an enlightenment from a higher place...

Shaxx · 07/06/2011 19:30

Jam! Thats an amazing amount of exercise! Phew.

Belle I second 'never say never'. I couldn't even run for the bus last yr and I did the couch to 5k on and off, hurt my knee so stopped for a while but now I can happily run 5k. It takes me a while (40mins) but I don't mind. I'm thrilled I can do it.
Hope you kick those cravings!

I bought those snackajacks. 62cals and 1.1g of fat each can't be too bad for choc fix.

I am shattered today. Have had a couple of v. busy days at work plus ds2 has been sleeping badly. Very bad combo for trying to stick to a diet. I was craving comfort food so had some oven chips for dinner. Not that great but I only had a tomato soup and raspberry yoghurt for lunch.

Guitargirl · 08/06/2011 09:51

Hi everyone, am very impressed with the amount of exercise everyone is doing! Am back from hols now, let it all go to pot a bit while we were away (my parents have too much nice food in their house...) but have tried to be good since we got back and have upped the exercise. I started couch to 5K yesterday, or I should say pre-couch to 5K as I couldn't even manage the first 20 mins on day 1 Blush. Let's just say it's going to be a challenge!

knottyhair · 08/06/2011 10:10

Morning! Dinky, I don't like to think of it as an addiction. It's a proper relationship, I mean, she looks me in the eye after every workout and tells me how amazing I am. And I don't care what LAPD say, I don't think sending her 206 e-mails in one morning is excessive, neither is sitting outside her house for 8 hours - she LIKES me doing it. And by the way, Milly was beautiful! JAM, did you manage another Shred last night? BelleEnd, "exercise enthusiasm may be going a bit far Grin, exercise habit more like! Plus it is Jillian.... Shaxx, hope you had a better night with your DS, and that you feel better today. Guitargirl, welcome back! Did you have a nice break? Good luck with the couch to 5k - I'm full of admiration for all you runners Smile.

Just had my Jillian fix - 6W6P Level 1. More minestrone for lunch today, and the chicken tikka masala that I did last week was really nice so I'm making that again tonight. Loads of housework to do today, the house is a tip! Hope you all have more exciting days than me!

OP posts:
justaminute · 08/06/2011 10:45

Eeek stalker alert! Grin. Knotty I have images of you converting your spare room to a Jillian shrine - posters on the wall, bookcase full of her DVDs etc.

I did manage to shred yesterday but failed on the only one biscuit promise. I could kick Dh for putting custard creams in the tin. I?m intending to reperform my exercise marathon again tonight ? shred, netball and run. I know it?s mad but if I don?t go tonight I won?t be able to get out for a run until Sunday. On the other hand The Apprentice is on and I do like that so I?ll see how it goes.

Guitargirl ? well done on starting the couch to 5k. Keep with it. I found the sense of achievement amazing and was surprised how quickly I progressed. Being able to run albeit slowly for a full 30 minutes feels fantastic.

Dinky ? Milly was my favourite. V pretty.
