Nothing Tastes As Good As Slim Feels Part 3

knottyhair · 24/04/2011 07:31

Hope it's OK that I've started this new thread, but the old one is now full! Not sure if my entry went on the old one, but anyhoo - let's keep going people! Here's to eating tasty healthy food, finding and sticking with exercise we enjoy and getting fitter, stronger & hopefully slimmer! xx

queenceleste · 03/06/2011 23:48

I'll try the tomato and basil, thanks, I think the peppers are too much though, don't know WHAT I was thinking!

knottyhair · 04/06/2011 07:09

Morning! TDW, well done on the loss! How's life been this week? BelleEnd, glad you're feeling a bit better. Queenceleste, I think Shaxx is right, adding some tinned tomatoes and reducing the peppers in the soup could work. LadyBuzz, sorry you've had a bad week. Get that Shred ordered Smile! Shaxx, I think you are bang on, organisation & exercise are the 2 key things. If you exercise, you feel better and you can have a few more calories. If you can, plan your meals for at least a few days at a time, include as many nice recipes as you can then you find yourself looking forward to your meals or is that just me being sad? Having said all that, I don't work outside the home, and I have 1 DS who's at school, so it's easy for me to find the time. If you work and/or have several children, it's a different situation all together, and those of you who manage it deserve a bloody medal! Having a day off Jillian today, walking into town with DS this morning. I'm making a Mediterranean Shepherds Pie (ooh, get me) with turkey mince but I'm not sure if we'll have that tonight or tomorrow as we're taking DS to see Kung Fu Panda 2 at 4pm and it might be a bit late when we get back, in which case I'll have some soup or something. Have a nice weekend xx

Shaxx · 04/06/2011 10:19

Morning.
I feel more positive today Smile
I've just been for a 25 min run. It might not sound like too long but I did run for the whole time and its an achievement for me. Plus very sweaty!

Porridge for breakfast today, salad and pitta for lunch and dinner at the in laws tonight. Yikes. I'm going to eat some fruit before I go as mil does make yummy food but starters are always served and they're always yummy fried things (think spring rolls, prawn tempura things, onion bhajis, samosas you get the idea Smile)

BelleEnd · 04/06/2011 11:00

I'm feeling better too. Tell me, how can it be that I feel like crap after eating healthily, and after yesterday's fatfest, my ulcer didn't play up at all and was content to give me a lovely night's sleep?! Is it possible that chocolate and crisps are, after all, good for me? [wishful thinking emoticon]

In a very slushy sentimental way, I thought I'd come on here to thank you all for being here. Yesterday was a bit of a turning point, and I would usually give up for weeks after stuffing myself like that, but after being on here and seeing that everyone has down days, and it doesn't mean you can't just pick up again the next day, it's really made a difference. Am back on the all bran today, and plan to behave again! I never thought being a part of a thread could make such a difference. Thank you all so much.

And now, I'm off to the beeeeeeach! x

knottyhair · 04/06/2011 11:48

Blimey Shaxx, 25 mins running sounds like forever to me Grin! Good luck at the in-laws tonight. I think it's the hardest thing when someone else cooks for you. You don't necessarily know how it was made, and don't want to offend anyone by refusing stuff or only having a little bit. Very hard. BelleEnd, it is great on here isn't it Smile? Glad you find it supportive and helpful. I think everyone's honesty is really refreshing. Enjoy the BEEEEEEACH!

OP posts:
Shaxx · 04/06/2011 13:01

BelleEnd glad you're finding this thread supportive.
I think its great on here too. You get sympathy, support and a kicking or slapping whenever you need it Grin
I think its really positive that everyone on here makes an effort with their diet/exercise/both. So its quite motivating.

I'm hoping I can get away with eating just a little as there will be around 18 people there tonight so I don't think my plate will be noticed too much. Its just that the food will be nice and there'll be lots of dessert too. I'm going to try to half the amount I would normally eat and double up on salad.

justaminute · 04/06/2011 15:24

Glad everyone made you feel better Belle. I don't think your blow out was excessive either unless it was family sized bags of M&Ms and crisps Grin.

Knotty on your recommendation I just popped over to the Good food website for a nosey (i'm doing anything to avoid the housework) and they've got an article about kicking the bad food habits. I warn you that it is headed by a picture of iced biscuits which I could happily devour right now (why do they do that Confused?) but it gives lots of practical tips. Stuff that I've heard before but good to be reminded of.

Off out with the girls tonight so I'm eating like a mouse today to compensate. I could eat my right arm right now. Must go and drink some water.

LadyBuzz · 04/06/2011 18:05

Better day here too, i took my lunch to work, drank water and left my purse at home so i couldn't be tempted. No exercise but i have been on my feet 6 hours.

Its my Dads birthday tomorrow so off to his for a meal, will have to be extra good through the day so I can enjoy it!

Glad everyone seems to be getting back on track!

BelleEnd · 04/06/2011 20:41

Better day today... Hope y'all enjoyed the sun. :)
1 small bowl all bran
1 quorn sausage salad with 1 slice of home-made wholemeal bread (and some sand- ate it on the beach ) :o
1 apple
2 quorn burgers with a mango salsa and some cous cous.

Take that, m and ms!

knottyhair · 05/06/2011 09:00

Morning! Shaxx, how did the meal go last night? JAM, hope you enjoyed your night out. I'll definitely have a nose at that article later. LadyBuzz, hope your Dad has a good birthday. BelleEnd, sounds like you kicked some M&M butt Grin!

Had a lovely afternoon yesterday but did go over my calorie allowance by a couple of hundred I reckon, but I figure one day won't hurt, and it did involve a scoop of Ben & Jerry's at the cinema, and I shared fish & chips with DS afterwards, and it was lovely! Did L1 Shred but with weights in the cardio this morning. We're taking DS swimming in a bit which obviously won't involve much swimming! Had poached egg on toast for breakfast, chicken soup for lunch and the shepherds pie with turkey mince for dinner that we should have had yesterday! Have a good one!!

OP posts:
Shaxx · 05/06/2011 10:19

Morning.

JAM good article. I like the brushing the teeth straight after dinner idea. I think I'll do that. I also like the idea of only eating if you're sitting down.
Hope you had a good evening.

LadyBuzz good going. Great idea leaving your purse at home.Enjoy your meal out.

BelleEnd mmmm sand sandwiches Smile When I was pregnant, I actually craved eating sand Shock How weird is that? I was obsessed with it and even booked a holiday to Sharm el sheikh for a sand fix.

Knotty you're so good. I'm sure those extra cals will be fine. Ben and Jerry's is hard to resist!

The meal at mils was really good. She did a buffet style with platters of high fat starter types and main food was all curries and rice. She did a really nice salad too so I was happy munching on that and I only drank water.
I did have dessert though - strawberry cheesecake.

Today
fruit for breakfast
tomato soup for lunch
chicken noodle stir fry.

Booked in for a 6.30 spin class.

knottyhair · 05/06/2011 13:41

Shaxx, sounds like you did really well at your MIL's. Enjoy your spin!

Just had a nose at that article that JAM mentioned, lots of really good tips. The bits about finishing the kids' food, and mindless munching really rang a bell for me. On the couple of nights a week when DS has to eat earlier, I have to make sure I have some calories left for a snack whilst he's eating or I would be picking from the fridge or else eating anything he leaves. Luckily he tends to eat it all usually. So leftovers aren't a problem here really - DP is a human dustbin Grin or else it goes in the freezer as soon as it's cold. Feel quite tired today, not sure why but as the weather's not great here, DP and DS are about to watch Return of the Jedi for the umpteenth time so I may have a nana nap! Then I must tackle Mount Ironing. Oh the glamour.

BelleEnd · 05/06/2011 19:15

Hello all!

all bran
quorn salad with 1 slice wholemeal home made bread
a handful of choc and yog coated banana chips Blush
An orange (would have preferred half a dime bar) :o
Yummy chinese ginger and prawn thing with cauliflower rice and cous cous.

Think that choc cravings and the other day's binge are due to PMT... Have been up and down like a yo yo today.

dinkystinky · 05/06/2011 21:15

Hi all - checking back in as back from NY and - fingers crossed - over jetlag now (fingers doublecrossed the kids are over it too - DS2 refused to go to sleep until nearly midnight last night and DS1 woke up at 4am so am getting it at both ends from them!). Blimey you lot can chat. TDW - lovely to see you back on (and well done for only gaining 4lbs - given all the stress you've been under am v impressed you kept it to just that gain, and losing some of it already - and sorry to hear your DS cries when you leave the house - as the others said, it does get easier. He'll settle into the new routine and all will be fine. Hope you had a good time at Stonehenge. Welcome to the thread BelleEnd and QueenCeleste - hope you find it helpful. Its a lovely supportive bunch of ladies on here - and Knotty always has delicious low cal meals she posts about to inspire the thread. Who was it talking about the Madhur Jaffrey curry bible? Her curries are on the whole pretty healthy (I tend to use less oil than she suggests though) - as with everything it all comes down to portion size when eating the delicious creations.

JAM, Shaxx - am in on the June knuckledown with you. Ate WAY too much on our holiday (was so hot - 30 degrees upwards every day - so didnt get in any runs but got in a couple of gym sessions and long walks at least) - wedding was lovely but a total food fest (my uncle owns a restaurant so was to be expected I guess) so am not weighing myself until Friday. My plan is healthy meals, 2 small snacks and one small treat a day, no alcohol during the week (unless out - which is fairly rare) and in any event 4 alcohol free days/nights during the week and exercise 5 days a week. Am also experimenting with getting our food bills down so have bought (and frozen) meat and fish for the month and all alcohol for the month today - and will just be buying fresh fruit and veg for the next 4 weeks in the hope some enforced vegetarianism will help us get a bit more creative with our meals too - and keep bills down abit. Oh and Shaxx, glad you elbowed the slimfast idea - everyone has thin and fat days (even supermodels - remember reading an article about Cindy Crawford talking about her fat days Shock), its just a case of keeping the faith and looking after yourself and you will reach where you want to be.

QueenCeleste - key to a good WW soup is seasoning IMO (have done WW a few times). Lots of garlic and spices - or some worcestershire sauce - helps pep it up.

Sorry that was an uber long post. Hope all are well and had a good weekend.

justaminute · 06/06/2011 09:38

Welcome back Dinky. Good to hear you had a nice time albeit a little warm. I was doing well on my ?kickass in June? challenge (even made sensible choices on a girls night out ) but I failed spectacularly last night. I stupidly decided to buy a BIG bar of Dairy Milk with the intention of allowing myself 2 squares a night as a treat. Let?s just say there?s not much left this morning. Blush

knottyhair · 06/06/2011 10:05

Morning! BelleEnd, sounds like another good day yesterday for you on the food front Smile! Dinky, welcome back! Glad you had a great time. JAM, well done on your choices on your night out. Sorry about your chocolate incident - today's another day Smile.

Have done 4 circuits of BFBM this morning (still hate burpees). Pea & ham soup for lunch and pasta puttanesca for tea, or "whore's spaghetti" as DP charmingly calls it (and he's half Italian, he should be ashamed of himself Grin). Going to make a big pot of minestrone this afternoon for the rest of the week's lunches. The rest of the ironing is mocking me as well, I think I reached base camp yesterday. Is it peeing down where you all are as well? Have a good day x

Hi everyone,

I am back in the zone today. Had boiled egg and ryvitas for breakfast and am determined to stay away from the bread/penguins/pasta etc. Dinner will be beef casserole.

Have put on 3lbs and am cross with myself, so will have to sort that out for the next couple of weeks.

Glad you had a good holiday dinky.

jam, Dairy Milk is very hard to resist. If it was in my house, there wouldn't be any left.

BelleEnd · 06/06/2011 10:52

Hello dinkystinky- I am well impressed that you managed to exercise whilst in NY! I think I'd have had to book a double seat on my fat arse on the way home... :o
justaminute I am amazed that you managed to buy dairy milk and not immediately scoff the whole thing down your throat. I am okay if the chocolated are not yet opened, but if I knew that the pack of mini dime bars or family bag of m and ms in the kitchen were open, well, I would have to empty them.
karmabeliever Boiled egg and ryvitas... I can only bow down to you. Respect.
Shaxx How was spinning class? I am not quite sure what spinning is (something to do with a cross trainer?) but I always have a mental image of lots of lycra-clad women in the gym, twirling until they collapse. :o
knottyhair - Puttanesca mmmmm. You see, now that I know that your DH is Italian, he looks, in my mind, like, Gilles Marini. Even though he's French. Please don't dash my hopes. :o

Well, last night, much to my Shock DH asked if I would consider please not losing more weight! He is a lovely lovely DH and is so nice and kind to me, and he did say that he wanted me to do what makes me feel confident and happy, but that he loves my curves. I think I'd still like to lose the 6lb to get to my target weight- That's hardly going to make a huge difference to my curves, is it?- But I have noticed recently that my boobs are really tiny and saggy. I haven't really got the spaniels' ears thing until now, but I bloody get it now! And I've always had huge knockers (because I've always been fat!)

Last week, there were pics of Christina Hendricks on the internet in a swimming costume. We were both staring open-mouthed at her Blush - Why can't I look like that when I'm bigger?

dinkystinky · 06/06/2011 10:52

JAM - top tip for the future. Buy the big bar, break off a couple of pieces and put the rest in the freezer - frozen chocolate just isnt all that (and by the time its defrosted the biffing urge will have hopefully passed by...) Back into bootcamp today with you - but well done on sensible choices on your girls night out.

dinkystinky · 06/06/2011 10:55

BelleEnd - cross posted. Its really sweet of your DH - he's probably worried about your health issues from previous dieting and your relationship with food - he just wants you to be happy and healthy. So maybe instead of focusing on losing weight (lets face it 6lbs means youre pretty close to target!) you could focus on eating healthily and being healthy and happy - and hopefully you'll hit target as a side effect.

justaminute · 06/06/2011 11:03

Karma, to be honest the Dairy Milk wasn?t that nice (have I really just said that?!) It does have mystical properties though which kept luring me back. My problem is that I throw in the towel too easily. Once I blow it I think sod it and really blow it. I?m an all or nothing kinda girl.

Knotty ? it?s raining here too. I don?t mind whilst I?m at work but I hope it brightens up for the school run later. I?m intending to shred, netball and run tonight. As I said it?s all or nothing Smile. Enjoy your whores pasta. Oh, how was the shepherd?s pie? I made a lamb mango & coconut pilau yesterday. It?s a bit on the high side calorie and fat wise so I only had a small portion but it?s so filling that I was satisfied with that. I omitted the chilli and the dcs gave it the thumbs up too.

BelleEnd · 06/06/2011 11:06

You're spot on, of course dinkystinky- I think the focus now has to be on being sensible, and letting myself have treats when I know I can control the portions. I have to say, I feel so much better after going back on the carbs- I didn't realize how much energy they gave me, in small doses, until I went back.

fedupofnamechanging · 06/06/2011 11:09

jam, I am an all or nothing kind of girl too, which is why the last week has been a complete write off. Am determined today to stay within my 1200 calories because I will be gutted if I put all the weight I've lost back on.

I love this thread - I actually feel guilty when I blow it, like I'm letting the side down. Now the kids are back at school and I'm not going out to lunch with friends I'm hoping that it will be easier to get back on track.

justaminute · 06/06/2011 11:09

Dinky thanks for the freezer tip. I?m already wondering how many times I?ll open the freezer before it is fully frozen. Perhaps it is safer that I don?t buy it. You?ve also reminded me of another top tip I heard but have never tried. Fozen Curly Wurly?s are meant to be good. You can break off what you want easily and it takes longer to eat from frozen

knottyhair · 06/06/2011 13:52

Karma, how do you know you've put on 3lbs?? Have you been weighing yourself between Fridays?? If so, keep away from the scales!! If not, sorry Blush. BelleEnd, oh my, Mr Marini is rather easy on the eye. I'm afraid if you look at my profile, you'll be a bit disappointed Grin. DP is half Italian, half Austrian, so he doesn't look like your typical Italian, he usually gets mistaken for Turkish or Eastern European. I quite like him though Smile. And what a lovely thing for your DH to say! I saw the Christina Hendricks pics as well, she's so glam! JAM, {in awe emoticon} at your planned exercise for this evening, blimey! The "shepherds pie" was nice thanks, didn't really bear any resemblance to a proper one but it was tasty! Your lamb pilau looks gorgeous!
