Wizzler - just seen that you do karate too, great fun isn't it Smile
benbon - I don't use esource or any apps so always use the table in the WW pocket guide to work out activity point. I would count Shred as intense activity (if you are giving it some welly you should be knackered), and 20 mins intense exercise earns between 3 and 5 points depending upon your weight:
9 stone - 10stone 13lbs = 3
11 stone - 13 stone 13lbs = 4
14st - 17stone 6lb= 5
HHY - I am not suprised that you had a shot or two of vodka given all that is going on with your dad, I hope he is doing better?
Careyflakes- how did exam go (what are you doing?)
Vnmum - agree, sound strategy to get rid of your 'big' clothes! I've done the same
androbbob- glad you are not too disheartened by the gain. Going back to class - even if it is a pain and not entirely convenient sounds like it might be a plan?
Well done on losses loublout and activate
Littlefish - on your all inclusive holiday I would not bother tracking (impossible) but make healthy choices. There will always be at least one healthy choice on the menu. I managed to lose weight at Disneyland Florida! - so it can be done

Some advice please - especially if you are at goal. It has got to the point where I need to set my goal weight. I am just 6lb away from a BMI of 25 where I could become a gold member? However, I am certain I would like to lose more than that ....would prefer to be at a BMI of 23/24. Don't know if that is realistic given my frame (I weigh heavy if you know what I mean, have a lot of muscle mass for a woman and a large frame)...so whilst I want to aim for that I don't want to be beholden to it as my goal weight in case it is too hard to attain. So, if I choose the BMI 25 weight as my goal and then eventually go 10lb under my goal weight - what happens, do I get my knuckles rapped and force fed chips? Do they get funny about it?

mistlethrush · 17/05/2011 09:53

JJB - I feel your pain - don't have the drinking issue, but DH needs to be on a diet more than I do - and I need it desperately... so you get the idea. He's done WW before - and found it easy to lose - just didn't keep it up. I'm going to see if I can sort something out so that he can point things on his phone and keep a tally - I think he might agree to that. Confused

mistlethrush · 17/05/2011 09:55

HMC - sorry cross posted! I know exactly what you mean about large frame etc - when I get to my goal I will be at 25 - and at that weight I look good and don't need to lose anymore - why don't you ask your leader? However, I would be loath to carry on paying when I could be a gold member (again)

hmc · 17/05/2011 09:59

Yes - perhaps I should be straight with her, tell her I want to set a goal weight of BMI 25 but say that unofficially I want to go lower, and see what she says about that. Was just wondering if there was a 'penalty' of some sort for going too far under your agreed goal - but I s'pect there isn't

mistlethrush · 17/05/2011 10:04

As long as you stay within their 'allowable BMI' range I don't see that they could complain.

I've not got a hope in hell of getting below my goal weight - but I'll get there and then do my utmost to stay at it or very close to it.

hmc · 17/05/2011 10:05

How much do you need to lose Mistlethrush before you get there? (sorry if you have mentioned this before and I have forgotten)

mistlethrush · 17/05/2011 10:17

No, I've not mentioned Blush... I think I'll be at goal by Autumn 2012 being realistic....

hmc · 17/05/2011 10:23

Sorry - didn't mean to put you on the spot. Well - very good luck with it. It may come off quite quickly (here is hoping)Smile

NoWayNoHow · 17/05/2011 10:24

Right, going to try catch up from my post yesterday, but won't be able to do from Thurs!

Welcome pinkglow, PP really works! I'm like you too, though, I'm rubbish with drinking enough.

herding I'm going to cling to your positivity and hope WI is good! TBH, it was a foreign wedding and we had no say n what we ate the whole weekend, so I just did the best I could with what we were given. If anything is going to be my downfall, it'll be the booze!

loublouwell done on loss - new undies and make up sounds like a fab treat, and well done on the added Zumba! Once I see how far off goal I got last week, and once I'm back to goal I'm definitely switching to maintenance too, but like you I'm trying to do it in my head as I think the only way I can realistically continue with WW on a permanent basis is by working on it becoming natural and second nature so that it's not the be all and end all of my life.

blondes it's not surprising that you've lost inches, although interesting that it's not reflected on the scales. Glad Thursday went as well as it could, was thinking of you all day.

HHY sorry to hear about your dad, glad that they can do chemo and that it's slow growing.

wizzler will post a pic up on my profile of the dress! Got some HOT shoes to go with it, but don't have any photos of them Sad

lolalady your logic about WI is sound, if you kinda know where you are then you can plan for next week's WI instead.

spring well done on loss. I'm sorry I can't help on veggie breakfast - only thing I can suggest is maybe veggie sausages/bacon to go with your eggs and beans?

JoJo sorry to hear about your worries with OH - I wish I knew what to say to help. Maybe instead of a series of "nags" you can sit him down and tell him that you've made a note of how much he drinks in one week and put it back on him - as HIM whether he thinks 60+ units is acceptable? I totally understand why you said what you did this morning. Maybe you can also show up his own drinking by staying teetotal during the week? There's nothing more enlightening to behaviour than being the only person doing something. Also, you may not even need to bring up his weight at all if you feel it will just be hurtful. If he can address the drinking then he will automatically lose weight, considering how much he's taking in (probably 180PP a week??!!). Hope you can get it sorted.

Good luck for WI's today for anyone!

tiredemma · 17/05/2011 10:30

WI tonight!! I know I have lost weight because my scales at work and the Gym tell me so- however I tend to weigh myself on these in teh morning. I do seem to weigh more in the evening so it will be interesting to see what I come out at on the WW scales.

Ive been so good this week, stuck to my points each day. Had NO chocolate (my vice) and been to the GYm and Running.

Fingers crossed.

Pinkglow · 17/05/2011 10:38

Spring what about Breakfast Burrito? 7 points - the below serves two

2 medium Tomato, finely chopped

2 tablespoons Tomato Ketchup

2 medium Spring Onions, finely chopped

100 g Mushrooms, sliced

1 cube(s) Stock Cube, Vegetable, vegetable, made up with 150ml hot water

1/2 teaspoons (ground) Pepper, Black (Whole, Cracked or Ground)

1 spray(s) Cooking Spray, Calorie Controlled

3 medium Egg, Whole

2 tablespoons Milk, Skimmed

2 medium Soft Tortilla

1 pinch Salt, to taste

Instructions
First make the salsa by mixing together the tomatoes, tomato ketchup and spring onions. Set aside

Next, simmer the mushrooms and vegetable stock in a saucepan for about 3 ? 4 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Meanwhile, spray a medium non-stick saucepan with low fat cooking spray. Beat the eggs and milk together and season with salt and pepper. Add to the saucepan and scramble the eggs over a medium heat until just set. Remove from the heat.

Warm the tortillas in a hot frying pan, one at a time, flipping them over after a few seconds.

Lay the tortillas on two separate serving plates and fill the centre with scrambled eggs and well-drained mushrooms. Fold up one edge of each tortilla to form the base, then fold in the sides to form pockets. Serve with the tomato salsa.

Cook?s tips: For extra flavour, stir a couple of snipped grilled turkey rashers into the scrambled eggs. This will add 1/2 Point per serving. If you like, add some chopped fresh herbs to the salsa, such as coriander or parsley.

androbbob · 17/05/2011 10:48

Sure your WI will be ok tiredmama!

noway lovin the dress and you look great!

I am having an unplanned day off today. All ready for work, kids up and fed. DD getting dressed. Went to help DS get ready and pulled off his pj's to find the dreaded spots - chickenpox! He has been a bit grumpy the last few days with a runny nose, so that explains that! He is getting spottier by the hour but no suffering or itching yet. Will have to nip out later to get some lotion / cream for him when I go to the dentist - DH will be back later so I can go out. He needs to collect DD later from singing after school so she has been told to come out to the car and find him! Oh well!! DH off tomorrow and then my Mum will have him for thurs and fri. Supposted to be going to a kids party on saturday - not sure if he will be able to go yet?

Was planning on going to tthe gym at lunchtime today but that not an option now. Was hoping to do Zumba tonight but couldnt get a place on the class this week - you have to book a week in advance. Planning on just bunking in if I can! Other option is just to go the gym if that doesnt work!

Will spend the day catching up on jobs in the house and have some painting to finish off in the porch, so not a wasted day. Just need to keep out of the kitchen and the food!!

Hope all WI today are ok!

mistlethrush · 17/05/2011 10:52

I've seen a number of people mentioning Zumba - looks fun - is it ok for the completely unfit? (got bronchitus last nov and have been very wheezy since)

vnmum · 17/05/2011 11:00

androbbob hope your DS gets better soon, i have yet to deal with the dreaded pox, DS managed to avoid quite a few outbreaks last year, don't know how but he just never got it when others in his nursery did.

HMC I set my goal at bmi 25 so i could stop paying. My stumbling block was that i then stopped going to class because of the house move. If you continue at class you should be fine. Once the goal weight is set you can go 5lb over before you start paying again and as far under as you want aslong as you don't go below the minimum weight for your height in your bmi range. I wouldn't mention to the leader that you want to lose more because she may try and talk you into not setting your goal so high because remember she will want her comission if you are still paying. HTH

JoJoBaldwin · 17/05/2011 11:18

NoWay you look amazing, just saw your pic! Gorgeous dress too. Thanks for advice on OH - hadn't even thought about the pp he was taking in with the alcohol! And yes, I need to be setting a good example, which i sort of am at the moment. Trying to limit it to social occasions only. Even at the bbq on saturday I delayed drinking anything for a couple of hours (and boy did I get nagged by everyone!), and I also passed up icecream and chips! I don't begrudge him the odd blowout, we all need to let off steam. It's the few cans after work or because he's bored or because it's a nice sunny day or because he's stressed that is doing the damage.
Done the whole talking reasonably thing to him, he sort of agrees - but then doesn't do anything about it!

Oh well, he has all day for thinking time now. He'll either come home all agrieved or actually take some of my concerns on board. We shall see!

CareyFakes · 17/05/2011 11:21

OMG Masses on here

I passed the exam (just considering NO revision was done). I'm studying Psychology and Criminal Behaviour.

WI tomorrow, just jumped on the scales and I'm 14st 6lbs...I was 14st 11lbs last Wedesday, not good to lose too much too quick. I'm finding it hard to eat, and I'm doing alot of horizontal exercise so hoping it'll ease off soon (weight loss not sex).

Right, the man is heading down and I promised I'd be naked in bed, so toodle pip!

vnmum · 17/05/2011 11:22

noway you look fab, the dress is lovely

Littlefish · 17/05/2011 11:30

Loublou & hmc - thanks for the advice on all-inclusive holidays. I think you're both right. I need to relax a bit and just make healthy choices. There should be lots of fruit and fish available which will help. Loublou you're absolutely right that if I do put on a little bit, I now have the tools to do something about it. What a lovely comforting thought. I won't be out of control!

Androbbob - I'm wearing the lovely tunic top you sent me. It always makes me think of you Smile.

Mistlethrush - I'm going to be losing weight until at least October 2010, so we can keep each other company. I'm hoping to have lost 5 stone by November (have lost 3 and a half stone so far). Then, I'll have 3 stone left to lose in my second year of weightloss.

JoJo - I hear what you're saying about your dh. However, I was as overweight as he is (albeit without the drinking). I don't think it would have mattered what my dh said to me (not that he ever did). Until I was ready to lose weight, what was more important to me was that I had his unconditional support, and that I could feel comfortable with him whatever weight I was, without feeling I was being judged. Would your dh be prepared to talk to his GP about his drinking/weight to try and stop it being an issue between you and him?

Littlefish · 17/05/2011 11:31

Mistlethrush - that should, of course, say "2012"! Grin

mistlethrush · 17/05/2011 11:44

Littlefish - we can continue on the thread together then! I lost 1/11 of what I need to lose overall in 3 weeks.... but I know that it will slow down, and I want to set myself a realistic target that I have a very good chance of achieving.

I find it very hard to lose weight - not only do I have to do the counting, but I have to watch what I eat for the points too - my mother has lost a lot of weight over the last 2 years or so and says exactly the same - she has to be extremely careful about some foods. I have a helpful list which compares foods of the same categories in terms of their GI and splits them into 'eat everyday' 'watch portion size' 'eat a few times a week' and 'treat' - really surprised me that branflakes and cornflakes were on 'occasional' and frosties were on 'watch portion' (so better!) - and that there was so much difference between the instant porridge (occasional) compared with porridge made with rolled oats and water (everyday).

JoJoBaldwin · 17/05/2011 11:46

Carefakes cracking up at you rushing off to be naked in bed, have fun!
Littlefish I hear you. I never generally talk about his weight, it's just that lately it is part of a combination of factors that means he is heading towards illness - ie the drinking, the smoking when he gets drunk, and the extra weight piling on. His mum died at 50 as a result of alcoholism and my dad had heart attack at 50 due to being an overweight smoker. So now he's in his 40s and I'm thinking he hasn't got long to reign this behaviour in before it could be fatal or lead to a disease that would seriously impair the quality of his life. So i just feel time is running out to be supportive and accepting. If he makes changes i will be supportive but at the moment I feel I just have to register complete and utter disapproval.
And hopefully set a good example by getting the weight off myself!

jimblejambles · 17/05/2011 11:47

Hello. Just wondering if any of you wise ladies can explain why I always put weight on before my period? I asked the leader who helpfully said you just do. Am really hacked off as was 1lb away from losing my first stone but have put 2lbs on.
I am really impressed with all your weight losses so may stick at it instead of throwing a huge Pmt filled strop and eating chocolate.

mistlethrush · 17/05/2011 11:51

I'm very Envy at Careyflakes excercise regime!!!! Grin

jimblejambles - everyone's different - but I know that I always have one 'heavy' week in 4 - I think its retained water. I wouldn't worry about it - next week you'll loose lots hopefully!

loubloutwinmum · 17/05/2011 12:11

Morning,

Hurting a bit this morning from Zumba last night - was a tough class and I really went for it so paying a bit now!

lola - thanks I thought 5 or 6 points but just wanted to double check.
vnmum - I am hoping to lose a little bit more too, so although maintaining trying not to use all my daily points and averaging 29/30 and increasing my activity seems to be working. It is such a shame about your asthma - must be frustrating for you. I am sure that come July, you will look amazing at your husbands work do and will indeed be a gorgeous, slim wife.
Spring - for breakfast I sometimes have cooked mushrooms & cherry tomatoes on toast with a poached egg on top - very yummy!
JoJo - hope things are OK with your OH - it is frustrating, especially when they play the nagging card! You can only do so much though and he will have to see it for himself and make the decision to change his lifestyle.
Androbob - Sorry to hear your son has chickenpox - not much fun! My twins had it in succession so we had pox in our house for about a month - they both had it quite badly so it was a bit miserable. Piriton helped with the itching.
Mistlethrush - Zumba is fab and is great for everyone - in the class I go to the age range is massize, from about 17 - 60 year olds. It is great even if you are unfit and carrying extra weight because you can do all the moves but can take jumps out and make it less of an impact but you still benefit
from the cardio! Give it a go - it is such fun and you just have to throw yourself into it and not worry about what you look like.

I need to go food shopping after I pick the kids up from school as forgot to put my internet shop on this week so looking forward to that!!! No idea what I am going to do for dinner tonight! Plus got the in-laws for dinner tomorrow so got to think of something to do for them that is OK for me too!!!! Hope you all have a good day.

herdingcats · 17/05/2011 13:00

Grr just did a post and MN went offline and I lost it !
Not going to name check I will be here all day. You lot have certainly been busy since last night.
We were shown quesadillas at our meeting last week they are going to be in your week mag, would make a lovely breakfast.
I can't help with the TOTM thing ,went through the menopause early and have not had periods for 3 years now.
Been to the gym this morning and did 50 length swim in 37 mins ,so hoping that helps give me more weight loss this week, as I seem to be settled on 1lb per week atm. Did a smeaky peak on gym scales and they did show -2.5lb .Fingers crossed they are correct.
Good luck everyone at this weeks WI Smile
