Hey everyone,

Saw the last thread was nearly full so thought I would start a new one :)

Just waiting for my beef rogan curry to finish cooking. Smells AMAZING :) Thank god I am off attack now!

Heidi I am the same as you. I started at about the same weight in January and was a comfortable 12/14 but I go to the gym every week day so it was a lot of muscle too. I have always exercised since I was about 12 so that side of things is never an issue. I have found being on the diet has made my muscles more pronounced and having slimmed down to a 10/12 (now 66.7kg) it is really noticeable and everyone comments. The high protein is great for muscle bulk and I like the muscular look anyhow, and dont listen to those that insist you need carbs to do a lot of exercise as you have enough in this diet to keep you going. Some here are even training for marathons and triathlons, so keep it up. I too can go days without food as I went on the Cambridge one year for 3 weeks and lost 1.5 stone but lost my hunger pains. It isnt good unless you are using these fasting days to solve a guilt problem! Whatever you do drink more than you think possible.....

dukanvirgin · 03/05/2011 07:54

hi all, weighed again this morning after day 3 attack yesterday and i am still exactly the same as i was after day 1 attack. It's getting abit disheartening as i've spent all this money on meat etc and don't seem to be seeing the fast results i was expecting.

It will be my last day of attack on wednesday but if i still haven't lost any more by then i'll be abit worried about starting to include veggies, help!

foreverondiet · 03/05/2011 10:59

dukanvirgin very frustrating not to loose much weight on attack, but I haven't found protein days expensive, rather I think they are cheaper than what I eat normally. I buy tesco value eggs, which work out at around 10p each plus 500g pots of tesco own make fat free yoghurt and fromage frais. The cottage cheese is in 300g pots. Also buy frozen fish which is £5 for 2 packs - ie 42p a serving as there are 6 pieces - either coley, cod or haddock. And tuna when its on BOGOF. Similarly turkey is cheap. I do eat meat but probably only have red meat every second day.

A protein day would be for me:
breakfast 2 eggs, 125g yoghurt with oat bran
mid morning can diet coke
lunch tin tuna, 200g natural yoghurt or cottage cheese
snack 90g haddock & 125g yoghurt with oat bran
dinner: 150g salmon and 150g turkey

divadoll · 03/05/2011 11:06

I love Tescos fat free greek yoghurt...it is so creamy

HeavyHeidi · 03/05/2011 11:09

hey thanks for the support. So had a pot of fromage frais after work and a grilled tuna steak and some shrimps yesterday - very filling I have to say. Today have had eggs, crabsticks and some yogurt. Salmon in the evening. No weight lost though, even though the book promises amazing immediate results. Won't give up just yet though.

diva impressive weightloss, you must feel a lot better. I'm the same, metabolism is non-existant and I don't really get hungry like a normal person. If I'm busy enough, I can simply forget to eat and will have no physical symptoms to remind me of this. As for exercise, I actually teach Bodypump and Combat, so yes will have to keep it up. Next classes on Thursday so will see how I feel after this.

kansasmum · 03/05/2011 12:52

Well weighed myself this morning (day 2 of Attack and I have lost 4lbs!!! OK so most of that is fluid probably (but I have drank at least 2 liters yesterday!!) so feeling pleased.
Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast- was really yummy and haven't felt hungry all morning!

About to have smoked haddock and prawns and cottage cheese for lunch and yog with my oatbran for the day!
(No constipation yet either thank goodness!)

foreverondiet · 03/05/2011 14:00

diva I also love the tesco fat free greek, and also the normandy fromage frais. The genuine greek total 0% is too harsh for me.

heidi some people don't loose weight eating dairy. If so dukan might not be for you. Another idea (although I think you need to give it a month) is the slo-carb diet as set out in Tim Feriss's book the 4 hour body. In some ways similar to dukan - high in protein, low in fat and no fruit. Interestingly he allows cottage cheese but not other dairy. He also allows (recommends) pulses. He also recommends 5-6 small meals a day eaqch of say 200 cals to move metabolism.

dukanvirgin · 03/05/2011 14:37

thanks forever, i tend to eat more meat than you so that could be why i am finding it more expensive. Is there a limit on how much yog and cottage cheese you can eat because i could easily eat lots of that with sliced ham/chicken for example.

I usually have a galette with yog for breakfast but then that means i can only have one other egg that day so it kind of stops me having scrambled eggs or omelette for lunch.

Today I have had:
oat bran porridge made with slim milk
few slices of ham
2 egg omelette with sardines

tonight i am having basa fillet with king prawns (got a big bag from makro) and maybe some cottage cheese and will probably have a yog before bed.

I might also snack on some sliced ham/chicken, cottage cheese or yog if i get peckish this afternoon.

I am going to stick with it but it's getting harder to resist the temptations when i'm not seeing motivating results.

I feel fine on the diet though, no problems or ill feelings

foreverondiet · 03/05/2011 15:22

Limits are I think 500g dairy a day. I always eat the full amount. Today already had 200g+125g.

Also 2 eggs per day but can have more egg whites. I do sometimes have 3 eggs though.

HeavyHeidi · 04/05/2011 08:34

So how is everybody doing? My weight loss after 2 attack days - 0,0. Yes, not a gram. then again, I kind of feel lighter, so will go on. But a bit disappointed of course - the book promised remarkable weight loss after just a day, so where is mine?

I definitely have not been cheating or over-eating. yesterday had some yogurt, fromage frais, crabsticks and a lovely salmon tartare (without cucumber). this here: www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Salmon-Tartare-365150

Today I'll probably have the same tartare with tuna and some grilled scallops.

Hmm forever, it's a thought that I might have issues with dairy. Can of course try the idea of not having anything else but cottage cheese, luckily I love cottage cheese - only trouble is that French supermarkets ehre don't sell it, so would have to go to either Germany or Switzerland to get some. (not as difficult as it sounds, I live on the border of 3 countries. So I guess will drop by Switzerland in the evening.)

kansasmum · 04/05/2011 15:29

heidi Hi I am on day 3 on Attack and according to my scales this morning has lost 6 and 1/2 lbs! I am amazed!
I am liking this diet because I have not felt hungry and amazingly for me, have not had the terrible cravings for carbs around 4pm which has always been a really bad time for me; kids home from school and having snacks etc.
So I am really pleased about that.

Sorry you haven't lost anything yet. Are you drinking plenty?
Hang in there- maybe it will suddenly starting dropping off?

HeavyHeidi · 04/05/2011 15:55

Thanks kansasmum - will hang in as like you said, I don't find eating like this difficult - quite surprising, as I love my fruit and veggies. Drinking plenty. Very Envy about your 6 and 1/2 of course :o

foreverondiet · 04/05/2011 19:05

kansasmum wow what great weight loss. I lost similar in attack, and even still loose 1-2lbs every time I do a PP day after not having done one for a few days.

heidi have you done loads of diets before? Dukan does mention that its harder to loose weight if you have. Have you tried low carb before (most low carb diets don't allow dairy due to lactose, but do allow more fats than dukan allows).

Also I think quite easy to make cottage cheese:
www.allotment.org.uk/allotment_foods/cheese-making/making-cottage-curd-cheese.php

tracywells · 04/05/2011 19:16

Hello! I was on Dukan for about a month then fell off the wagon badly around Mothers Day. My mum-in-law made my favourite cake and she arthritis, etc so I had to eat it really! It all unravelled then, the sweet cravings came back with a vengeance. I'm so annoyed because I lost nearly two dress sizes and now I'm at square one again, gained it all back.

So today is day one of attempt two!! This time I'm going to exercise as well though (didn't really bother the first time). Today I did an ancient Jane Fonda tape I found in a charity shop, but I've ordered some dvds from amazon, including the '30 day shred' dvd I keep hearing about and I'm feeling fine (7 hours in, lol!)

HeavyHeidi · 04/05/2011 19:20

hey forever, no I have not tried low carb eating before, so maybe it's not for me. But I'll try it for a few more days and if still nothing, will try something else. (found my cottage cheese as well)

tracywells · 04/05/2011 19:22

I noticed something the first time and I wondered if anyone else experienced it too? Even though I wasn't really exercising I had noticeably better muscle tone, especially in my shoulders, and after about a fortnight my thigh muscles felt rock hard (hope that's not too much information!) Has anyone else noticed this?

tracywells · 04/05/2011 19:24

Heidi - are you measuring yourself too? You might find that you see a loss there even if the scales don't show it.

foreverondiet · 04/05/2011 23:47

tracey yes I think this diet great for muscle tone. I have been going to gym and am very toned.... which i like - although hadn't thought about diet contributing until you said. I think in someways weigh is misleading as for me body fat % more important - mine now (per scales) is at 24%, would like to get it to 22% but keep weight stable.

My thighs are rock hard but had atttributed this to the triathlon training I am doing and the squats and lunges!!!!

HeavyHeidi · 05/05/2011 06:51

Ahh finally, 0,5 kilo (1,1 pounds) gone this morning. Hoping it is the start of the weightloss and not just one-time event.

Not feeling particularly tired or out of energy like we were warned, which is good, of course.

How did you find sports during attack phase? I've of course been doing something every day, but teaching a Bodypump class in the evening and there is a Combat just before that - usually I do them back-to-back. Do you think it's a good idea or should I skip Combat today? (in case you're not familiar with LesMills classes, it's high intensity)

divadoll · 05/05/2011 09:19

I do high intensity classes every day and have found this diet no problem with keeping up. My muscle tone is great now and you can really see some definition especially on the abs :)

foreverondiet · 05/05/2011 09:57

I am training for a triathlon, now only a month away (gulp) and no issues with energy. If you are used to it should not be problem but drink loads of water.

HeavyHeidi · 05/05/2011 10:37

hey I was looking for a good excuse there to skip the combat Wink
Yes I'm used to it, so guess I should go. Can always take smaller weights in Pump if I really start fainting or anything.
Good luck with the triathlon! Ironman next?

HeavyHeidi · 06/05/2011 08:34

another 1,2 kilos down this morning :) And you were right, no problem with doing 2 back to back classes.

tell me about the next phase, how much did you lose in average per week once you added some veggies? Did you cheat and how did this affect the weight loss?

poppin · 07/05/2011 15:38

I started last week. Did 4 days on attack, lost 4lb. Today I am on protein + veg but made the mistake of reading the rest of the book. The consoladation is a big dissappointment, apart from fruit the additional things you can add I don't like (bread, lamb & cheese). I don't want to waste my good start so think I will transfer to a different low-carb diet which are a bit more diverse, I seem to remember that you can have vodka and more fatty meats on Atkins.

foreverondiet · 07/05/2011 23:48

poppin I am at target weight, and am looking to maintain - from reading the book I know that means I need to be careful for a while as I lost 47lbs (not all on dukan though) but I take what he says with a pinch of salt! I don't really like cheese and am not fussed for bread so have been adding other things instead, eg pulses, nuts, some bread, but less than he says (have added fruit but see what I write to Heidi below). Also 85% chocolate!

heidi I am going to confess that I only ever really did around 1 protein day per week. Its a Monday for me to get rid of any excess of the weekend! And I did eat some fruit maybe 3-4 pieces a week and only apples/berries. But I guess I was doing a modified version as I did keep track of calories on MFP and tried to keep it to 1200 (totally realistic) - mainly as I know I loose weight best if I log everything and MFP useful for this. I don't want to be totally strict all the time as doing it my way has meant that I haven't had a lapse. I'd rather have occasional apple / 85% chocolate than have a "fall off wagon totally" few days.

Basically still lost 1-2lbs a week even with cheats set out above. Why not start with 3 protein days Mon, Wed and Fri and then you can have veggies at weekend. After a few weeks see if you can add a few apples a week.

There was a piece in todays times about dukan being unhealthy as low in vit C and high in salt. The vit C can be solved via supplements but will be more careful about salty meat and fish.
