Jacksterbear · 01/07/2011 12:07

Venetia do it, you know you want to! As JM herself says, your ams are the body part most likely to be naked in front of others Grin. Hard to say how soon the results showed, but probably within a couple of weeks of upping the weights to 2kgs on the shred, and nmtz has definitely made a big difference. I have a really nice curve now round my shoulders and like knotty, find myself wanting to wear vest tops to show them off and
draw attention away from the wobbly thighs!

kitty lol @ "grinning lady in green", she is a bit scary isn't she!

Found myself watching The Biggest Loser the other night, it was weird seeing JM, it felt like I knew her personally IYKWIM!

notyummy · 01/07/2011 12:18

3.5 mile run followed by first 5 circuits of NMTZ. Managed all the surrenders with 3kg, and 5 kg for about 75% of the others (where weights are used, obviously!) Can vouch for the effect of JMs workouts for the upper body - friends I hadnt seen for a while commented on my shoulders and arms last month - in a good way!

BalloonSlayer · 01/07/2011 15:31

Tried BFBM yesterday, with mixed success. DS2 had an accident half way through, so I had to comfort him and just couldn't keep on, I am not sure I wanted to keep on anyway. . . However, I didn't think the exercises were too bad, so long as I knew what was coming. I have decided to wait until I have an hour to myself so that I can give it a proper go although I KNOW I won't make it to the end.

(Thought Jillian had a bony chest and floppy tits though in BFBM, don't like that look, miaou)

knottyhair · 01/07/2011 15:52

I'm liking the muffins.... had 1 and have now put them in a tin with the lid FIRMLY ON. notyummy, that's a pretty impressive achievement! I'm definitely going to give the 3kg a go for the surrenders next time I do NMTZ. BalloonSlayer, BFBM is bloody hard work IMHO. I don't enjoy doing it all the way through, not like NMTZ, so I don't! I find if I do something 6 days out of 7, 4 circuits of BFBM is enough! Saying that, you might find you like it as you do it more, I'm just not really a full on cardio kind of gal Grin.

VenetiaLanyon · 04/07/2011 09:54

Couldn't shred yesterday as at MIL's tiny cottage. Drat - sequential Shred record attempt needs to start all over again Angry

Hope that you all had lovely sunny weekends and are ready for piling on this week's agony Smile

knottyhair · 04/07/2011 09:56

Morning all. I had a day off from Killian on Saturday but did 4 x NMTZ with 3 cardio circuits on Sunday. I did manage 3kg for the surrenders which I was pretty pleased with but mostly still had to use 2kg Blush. Just done 4 circuits of BFBM which has left me in a sweaty heap. I really find the second set of 180 squat jumps hard-going. Hope everyone has a sunshiney day.

Jacksterbear · 04/07/2011 10:26

Morning everyone! Just made it all the way through BFBM and dead chuffed with myself!! Nearly gave up during the standing mountain climbers in circuit 6 but managed to push on through with only minimal phoning in Grin.

Also I've beaten my latest weight target of 9st4 - this morning's weigh-in was 9st3. Probably don't want to lose much more weight now just continue toning up and keep trying to get rid of the damned thigh/bum fat!!

I was over 10st when I joined this thread in April so very pleased and very grateful to you lovely ladies for all your support!

knotty - 2kg for NMTZ is certainly nothing to be Blush about!!!!

knottyhair · 04/07/2011 11:25

Well done Jackster ! Both for getting through the whole of BFBM and beating your target! I beat my 2nd target on Friday when I weighed in (target was 9 stone 7, weighed in at 9 stone 5.25). My final target is 9 stone so I'm on the home stretch but I've a feeling those last few pounds might be difficult to shift, especially as we're off to Devon for a week at the weekend . Jillian will be joining me however Grin.

foreverondiet · 04/07/2011 12:09

Hi Shredders - this isn't a thread I've been posting on but would like to know what I should buy next! I have 30DS am on level 3 but TBH finding it disappointing, not really any harder (maybe easier?) than level 2. Will probably alternative between level 2 and 3 because I think similar in level and work different muscles.

But what next???

I am super gym fit, I use 30DS as a quick workout in my non gym days, so maybe 3x a week. Have done each level for around a month (less for level 3). I have 2kg & 4kg weights, and I use 4kg when possible, and always do the full Natalie version for everything.

Jacksterbear · 04/07/2011 17:23

Hi forever, I think most of us on this thread would agree with you re L2/L3 shred.

To move on, maybe try 2x levels of the shred back to back, or get the NMTZ and BFBM DVDs (50 mins each and you need to alternate really to get a balance as one is more cardio and one is strength). Or 6W6P - which I haven't done but is by all accounts pretty hardcore esp level 2!

notyummy · 04/07/2011 18:10

2 levels is a good suggestion - that is what I usually do. You could push the weights up too - I use 5 KG for most moves (7kg on clean and press in L3) and only drops down when I really need to (V raises anyone??)

6W6P is pretty tough, particularly L2. It is 35 mins. I sometimes do L1 and then have of level 2 to bring it up to 50 mins.

As has been said, it is worth thinking about whether you need to work on your cardio fitness or strength the most and buy something suitable. 6W6P is a mixture, whereas the others are either one or the other. I tend to only use BFBM when I can't go out running, as I think running is the best cardio workout there is (unless you are dawdling!)

foreverondiet · 04/07/2011 18:41

I liked 30DS as its only 25 mins as its my "extra" exercise on non gym days (were I have pretty hardcore sessions in the gym) - so don't really want to do 2 levels back to back. TBH I often do DVD after dinner and find the jumping up and down not ideal so wouldn't go for one thats more cardio than 30DS, would rather keep my cardio for the gym (I go in the mornings, and run on treadmill - much better cardio than 30DS).

So sounds as if I should buy 6W6P for a shorter length workout, and NMTZ for extra toning? Is my thinking right?

knottyhair · 04/07/2011 19:02

Hi forever, I'd echo the advice already given, and yes, 6W6P is good for another relatively short workout. NMTZ is 50 mins if you do the whole thing but it's broken down into 6 min circuits and if I'm short of time, I sometimes do 4 circuits which takes about 35 mins with warm-up & cool down. If I have more time, I still do just 4, but pause the DVD after each circuit and do a Shred-style 2 min cardio section which takes it to about 40 mins in total. Or you could do 3 circuits plus 2 cardio bursts?? Just a thought.

kittyfisherfoundit · 05/07/2011 16:58

hello...am a bit crap at keeping up to date on threads...but wanted to shout from the rooftops as I have just done all 7 circuits on BFBM woop woop woop! and collapse .......

notyummy · 05/07/2011 17:53

Go Kitty, Go Kitty....

Jacksterbear · 05/07/2011 18:59

Well done kitty! Smile

And knotty, forgot to say yesterday, congrats to you too on the weightloss! We're off on hols too, to France for the last 2 weeks in July, will be taking laptop + Jillian with me also! Grin

knottyhair · 05/07/2011 19:40

Wow, Kitty, that's hard Smile Smile! Good on ya!! Thanks Jackster Smile!

threestepsforward · 05/07/2011 22:08

Hello all Smile
Sorry I haven't been checking in regularly - decorating frenzy continues and I'm only having time to do one level of Shred every other day if I'm lucky. But...I'm keeping on. This might have been the time in the past when I'd let the whole thing slide so that's a positive!
We have floorboards downstairs and have made the most fantastic exercise mat using three layers of carpet underlay, stuck together with copydex Grin. It's fab actually - best workout mat I've had so far!!
Well done everyone with all the great news on meeting challenges, reaching target weights - it's an inspiring thread to be part of Smile
Hope to check back in soon
Threesteps x

kittyfisherfoundit · 06/07/2011 07:35

thank you for the pom poms and enthusiasm!!...am a wreck this morning! I think it was the scissor kicks. My inner thighs don't know what have hit them.

I looked properly in a full length mirror yesterday and can definately see better arms and the hint of some definition on my legs. Problem is there is still alot of fat there. Same with my belly. Am doing SW too but finding it hard going. I found weight loss really erratic with the extra easy plan so switched to low carb red days with them. Much better. Anyway...am 2lb away from the BMI charts no longer classifying me as overweight. Which will be the first time since... well....probably since I was about 9.
So...hooray for mumsnet for introducing me to the Shred and BFBM and hooray for this thread for giving me the oomph to get on and get exercising every other day
Have some old carpet and underlay in the garage - am going to make a threesteps mat :)
Jackster and Knotty -you are pretty hardcore eh!! inspirational....keep those weight loss and inches off stories coming
notyummy 5kilo and 7kilo. Wow.

knottyhair · 06/07/2011 08:26

Morning! Kitty, it's great that you can see results already. Keep going, and the fat will go. I was also in the overweight BMI range at end of January (11 stone 4 and 5' 4") and it felt really good when I got into the "healthy" range (took me until the beginning of April).

Just done a Level 1 Shred, using 2kg weights in the cardio sections, except for the punches when I have to go back down to 1.5kg otherwise I'm too slow! Managed to use 3kg for most of the strength though, apart from one set of squat raise things in the first circuit, and the anterior raises at the end (used 2kg). Also did the basic crunches with a chest press using 3kg. Clearly still needing a wide range of weights - I will get there!

Hi threesteps ! Well done for keeping going with the Shred, despite all the other stuff you've got going on. Was it you who asked about any new veggie recipes? I made one from the Jillian book the other day which was lovely - a sort of Pad Thai made with loads of veg & almond butter. Let me know if you want the recipe Smile.

kittyfisherfoundit · 06/07/2011 08:41

Hi knotty ...you've done really well!! thats fab progress. I was 12 stone in Feb when joined SW and am now 11 2 and need to be under 11. Am aiming for 10.5 but it depends a bit on what my thighs look like. Haven't been 10 stone something ever so its a really exciting goal. I like to use weights on the level 1 cardio too...does make a difference.
What's this talk of a Jillian book?????!

febes · 06/07/2011 09:01

Well done all the losers!!
It seems that all the Jillian motivation is definately paying off. I have also come to brag showoff report my amazing loss.
I am a larger lady (well I was Wink) I have just moved from the obese range into the overweight. I am 5'11 and started at 19st 4. I am now 15st 5 so am a pound off 4 st loss. I have done this with Jillian- shred twice then 6w6p and now NMTZs with the occasional BFBM thrown in. I have also been doing the Idiot Proof Diet (low carbing) I have gone from size 22 to a 16 which is now getting roomy on me Grin.
I want to lose another 2.5-3st. I have never really been smaller than I am now so not sure how low I want to go yet. I orginally thought size 14 but now its close it still seems quite big.
This thread has been an amazing help too even though I don't post often I read it everyday and find you all very inspirational.

knottyhair · 06/07/2011 09:27

Febes, what fantastic results, wow Smile !
Kitty, I've got Jillian's "Master Your Metabolism" cook book. Lots of nice things in there - so far I've done the Pad Thai, banana/blueberry muffins, and a couple of the breakfast ideas. My favourite idea so far from it is mixing up a couple of tsp of soft goat's cheese with fat free yoghurt. Lovely on toast and topped with fruit, or on ryvitas with cucumber or tomato, or as a dip for prawns as a snack - I've been having it on nearly a daily basis! I've been using this book, the Cook Yourself Thin one and the BBC Good Food site for ideas. It makes all the difference to me to eat really tasty stuff whilst counting calories.

notyummy · 06/07/2011 09:28

febes - that is amazing. Really - just fantastic. You must be so much healthier, and what a role model for the DC. Well done!

I am 6W6Ping this afternoon. May try one and 1/2 (scared). Did L3 shred last night (just the one as short of time.) Quite enjoyed it, although I think that one is the hardest on the knees with all the jumping squats/lunges etc. My knee was a little sore last night but seems ok today.

Happy work outs everyone!

Jacksterbear · 06/07/2011 12:10

febes and kitty, brilliant progress, well done you! Pats on the back all round!

kitty my legs are still hurting from Monday's BFBM! Weirdly it's my calves, not even sure which move that would even be from Confused!

3steps well done for doing as much as you can, a shred every other day is not bad going!

notyummy, expect to see a report back on your 6W6P achievement later...
