I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

Lolli - what's the big film event?? (Sorry if you've said about it before - i am a complete sieve head!!)

Forever - well done on the weight! i can only dream of being 8 9! lol

Gibbon - have you name changed?!! Reveal yourself!!

I cannot wait for tomorrow evening!!! After about 4 1/2 long years, i am finally going RAVING again!!!! woohoo!!!!! My friend and his mate have been hosting these raves for the past 10 years and ever since i got pregnant with DD i've obviously taken a back seat in the raving world. Anyway, i gave my friend a call today and as it has been so long, i was just going to ask him to save me a ticket to buy on the door (these are limited) but bless him, he has put me down on the VIP guest list!! I dont think i have queued to get in a club in about 10 years thanks to my friend but as i'd not seen him for so long, i felt a bit cheeky asking for guesties. I'm so chuffed tho! Straight to the front of the queue and a blinding night's dancing!! Cant wait to catch up with all my raving buddies again!! :o :o Camera ready : check! Earplugs ready : Check! Driver ready : Check! Drinking head ready : Check check and double check!! :o Bang goes my 6lb loss on Monday..... Hmm

RGPargy · 08/07/2011 22:18

Gibbon - just realised you are gilbonzo. Sorry. What a div. Shoot me now! Blush

LollipopViolet · 08/07/2011 22:35

RG, I've basically, with help from an ice hockey club, arranged a screening in Manchester for my latest student film, the film of a friend, who's not a student, and some of my other student friends.

I can't wait, in one way, but in another way, I'm terrified! Especially as the club has advertised it all over their social media outlets tonight! It's Manchester Phoenix, if anyone's interested.

I'm also compere you see, and I've suddenly developed a bout of shyness :( It would be wrong to enjoy a glass of wine prior to doing an evening of speaking, wouldn't it?

RGPargy · 09/07/2011 08:53

Lolli - oooooo sounds fab!! I'm sure your film will be fantastic, dont worry!! :o I deffo think that a glass of Dutch Courage would absolutely be OK!!!

LollipopViolet · 11/07/2011 11:18

YAY! Everything went fabulously! About 30 people came and they liked all the films, I didn't need a microphone, everyone heard me fine.

I didn't need Dutch Courage but did have a small glass of wine to celebrate after all the films were shown.

And then made an error. We were all starving, so one friend suggested we get a pizza. So we did.

Then we had an enjoyable meal by going to the Manchester Airport viewing park watching and photographing the planes (2 out of the 3 of us who went together are keen photographers). We're going back for a full day soon. Hopefully the pizza didn't do too much damage...

And ooooh one of the 2 friends I went with, R, me and my other friend H are also friends with his DP.

It's her birthday today. Me and H happen to know what R has got her but because I'm paranoid, I won't say til I've had confirmation she likes it and therefore has received it :)

redderthanred · 11/07/2011 11:34

hi strangers
:)

hope you are all ok.
Had a fantastic time at take that and on holiday. briliant.
Goes without saying, i drunk like a fish and ate like a pig :) However, after about 5 days i had really had enough.. and now, being home. im back on the cleaner eating again. Im hoping that this is some indicator that i really have made long term eating changes. Im not thikning of cleaner eating as dieting anymore, rather as just the normal way i eat.

Im not going back to mfp. but i hope i can stay on here. I think MFP, while being very good, makes me a bit obsessed about it all and made me not think about any thing else really, other than food the whole time. Which is no way to live. Interestingly enough, on days when ive not been on holiday, ive still automatically eaten really well and given it no second thought. While , if id been on mfp id of been thinking about food and what and how much i was having all day.

Ive not been on the scales yet. I think this month really was on a road to knowhere. I had so many holidays and big events and there was just no avoiding it. Things are a bit quieter for me now.... or at least only limited to one big social thing a week.. which is much more easier to manage.

Anyway - fruit and no fat youghurt for breakfast. tuna salad for lunch. fish and veg for tea. a brilliant eating day ;)

LollipopViolet · 11/07/2011 22:58

OK, I can reveal all now.

R proposed to his DP Y with a ring tonight (her birthday is today).

She's said yes!

I've known R about 3 years, Y only a year or so, but they are 2 of my closest friends and I couldn't be happier for them :)

They're also the first friends of mine to get engaged :)

foreverondiet · 12/07/2011 22:55

Wow Lollipop what nice news!

Anyway my news is that I feel I am living in a parallel universe where I can buy size 8 trousers - already bought a few weeks ago from M&S but I know they aren't really size 8s more like a 10. I tried on a pair of size 10 trousers in next today and they were massive so tried in 8 instead and they fitted, so thought the sizing must be wrong so went to uniqlo and same thing, size 8 fits Grin and they were in sale!

Also I am still struggling with restraint at social occasions eg was at friends BBQ on sunday and of course I couldn't just have one brownie had to eat around 5 and biscuits.... I'm too much of an all or nothing person. What to go and eat one. Easy for me to have none!

GeekLove · 13/07/2011 20:09

I have fallen of the MFP wagon as all the updating is time consuming. However it has made me take notice of my food consumption. I should be losing weight about 2-3 times the rate I am. It seems I am someone who does not lose weight when EBF.
Still I would rather be 11st and be able to donstuff rather than thinner and have no energy.

RGPargy · 14/07/2011 16:44

Hoorah!! I can finally get back on here at last! :o

Lolli - glad it all went brilliantly and fab news about your friend!!

Forever - Wow, i bet you are soooo chuffed! Bloody well done! I am in total Envy of anyone being able to get into a size 8!!

Red - that's fair enough. If MFP makes you obsess then leave it alone for a bit. Personally i NEED to obsess about it at the moment because if i dont, my bad ways will gradually creep back in again. Please stay on this thread tho! :o

Geek - I never lost weight when i was EBF either! Bloody typical!! I'm sure it had nothing at all to do with the flapjacks and muffins that somehow jumped into my basket when i was walking around Asda....... Hmm

foreverondiet · 14/07/2011 18:58

geek i put on a stone whilst EBF because of the magnums and cornettos on special offer in tesco.

red i know what you mean about MFP. I am logging in the week but not at weekends. i feel i still need it to stay on straight and narrow. stay on this thread though....

rg have seen your excellent eating on MFP.

re: the trousers, well not really sure what to say as when i look at my thighs they still look big to me. but my hips have gone from 43 inches (size 18) to 34 inches (size 8!).

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 14/07/2011 20:06

Well, I've just done my dd's 3rd birthday party - we had a BBQ with loads of friends and my parents are over which was lovely. I managed to be very sensible with my food and even managed to stick to a very small piece of birthday cake despite feeling I deserved it all after spend 9 hours decorating it!!

I'm still losing very slowly according to the scales but I'm getting smaller at a rate not matched by weight loss Hmm. My mum couldn't believe it when she got here on Monday - she last saw me in May and was gobsmacked by how much smaller I am. I'd like to say that I don't care about the weight loss if my shape is improving but I'd be lying as weight loss is the ultimate goal for a dieter. Oh well. If my legs get any more muscle on them I'll be able to pay for lipo out of my pay for all the Arnie films I'll able to recreate Grin

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 14/07/2011 22:03

Hello everyone,

would you mind if I'd join you?
I have tried quite a few diets before but I am so bad at sticking to anything. So I found this thread and logged into my fitness pal today and thin the side is great!

I went to the gym today and thought I had an ok food day but it turns out that I overate by 599 calories today, even when the calories I burned at the gym were deducted [hblush]

foreverondiet · 14/07/2011 23:01

marypoppins hi welcome! Yes MFP is great for keeping tabs on portion control! I have been logging food for months and I now have a much better idea of whats a good day!

However IMO the quality of what you eat is even more important than the calories.

gil glad to hear you are looking thinner, forget the scales weight is not relevant - focus on measurements - or you can estimate body fat using the "US navy method" with a tape measure. My thighs can compete for the arnie film!

Newbies on this thread - let me know your MFP name if you want me to add you as a friend.

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 14/07/2011 23:55

Thank you Forever. I know I have to look at the quality of food, especially as I do like my snacks. But i thought I had it down in the last few days, but I am obviously still overeating. So I hope this will help.

It said I can only eat 1200cal a day though to lose weight, that sounds quite scary!

My name is TooManyCookies, quite appropriate I thought

ezzie21 · 15/07/2011 09:18

glad to see someone else in the inches but no weight loss club

how can i have lost 3 inches off my hips, 5 off my waist and not one pound lost

my body shape has gone from 'landslide' to wobbley - i am greatful to have hit wobbley Blush

i am sticking with mfp it helps/stops me from eating chocoalte....im still in shock over the calories in a finger of fudge Shock

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 15/07/2011 09:25

Eezie, that is a lot. How long have you been doing my fitnesspal? I think as long as you become smaller and fitter overall the numbers on the scale don't really mean anything (although I would be a liar if I would pretend that I don't step on them every day hoping for a loss).

So how does the friendship thing on the site work? Is it a bit like facebook? Will you guys be able to see what I eat and stuff? That might shame me into not overeating... I would be happy if some people would add me

ezzie21 · 15/07/2011 16:30

im on day 60 of mfp

blew 1200 calories on lunch out today with teenagers - american diner that was in Dr Who, cardiff bay- but at least i know these days what im eating

i dont eat back my exercise calories- was stomping thru cow poo at 6am today up and down bastard dale

gone down a bra size as well...everyone comments on the weight ive lost, except i havent lost any frigging weight Confused

ezzie21 · 15/07/2011 16:36

WannaBeMarryPoppins, ive searched for you on mfp but couldnt find you,

im ezzie1uk if you do a search

disclaimer menopausal head in progress

WannaBeMarryPoppins · 16/07/2011 08:30

Hey everyone, my second day was a bit better than my first. But i still overate, by 212 calories. But I guess that is better than 599 on the first day.
I hope that I will get used to eating so little. It's definitely showing me that my idea of portion control is completely out of order.

Two people have added me and I am not sure who you are?

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 16/07/2011 08:56

Oh it could all go very wrong this week or very right! Mum and dad are on holiday with us and yesterday was supposed to be their last day until dad fell and his hip fell apart. He's now in hospital having an operation (he speaks no French!!) so this might be a very stressful week! So far I can't eat but comfort food may be playing a part very soon. Oh the joys.....

Better to ask directly on the mfp forums. This thread is 5 years old, anyhow!
