Just signed up at 'My Fitness Pal'. Any advice, experience, or desire to join me?

I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

I'm out on the (strawberry) beer tomorrow night. I am scared of weight gain for Monday tho. However, the (strawberry) beer will be well worth it. It is my new all time favourite drink and i tried it a few weeks ago and have been dreaming about it ever since! I will probably only have 2 tho before we move on to our local pub that sells "normal" drinks (i.e. not a real ale pub) but boy oh boy will i savour every single mouthful of those two pints!!! :o

Hello fellow curvy mamas,
Have been on mfp for about 10 days now and find it SO hard to lose weight. Went away for 2 days with DH to Malham, and, yes there was walking, but yes there were fried breakfasts and puddings. Feel it's a real battle, one that I'm losing. Find me on mfp and encourage me please. I'm starting afresh tomorrow!

I'm finding the calories a bit restricting & difficult Blush 1200 a day??!!
Been on it 4 a while now- no vast improvement, but last 2 wks I have exercised fairly regularly & find that is helping.
Any advice or just want a mfp buddy will b gr8 Wink

Are you sure you are both having enough calories? How did you arrive at 1200 cals? Was it set for you by MFP or did you pick that limit yourself?

Morning everyone! Haven't been on here for a week and am struggling a bit. I've been sooo busy this week, I'm eating on the run and I've eaten out a few times plus I've not had much chance to exercise. Ive only managed to do one run this week. I'm trying not to weigh myself very often as I get a bit obsessed and it has a really negative impact on my mood so I'm not sure whether Ive gained weight. I'm hoping that all the running around will have burned some calories!! I'm helping out at the school summer fayre today so I'll be on my feet for about 6 hours! Just about to cook us a healthy full breakfast as it's probably the only meal we'll get all day.

Hopefully next week will be better. I've not got as much on and Ive bought the Wii zumba which I'll have time to do. 6 weeks until my holiday and I'm really trying hard to lose half a stone before then but I've got to get my focus back.

Welcome to Hoochy and Tinker. I'll add you as friends on MFP (I'm Gingerslimmer over there). I know 1200 cals isn't much which is what encourages me to exercise more!! Good luck with your weight loss!

Hi everyone!

Bad day yesterday. Well, bad evening really. Was good all day and then dropped DD off to the PILs so DP and I could have a night off. We stopped at our local pub that sells a mass amount of real ale, which DP likes. They also do an amazing strawberry beer called Fruli so of course i had to have two pints of that!! Then we went on to our pub just up the road and had more drinks and a massive dinner there. I completely didn't watch my calories coz it's been so long since i had a night out, even if it was at the local pub!!

Weigh in tomorrow will no doubt be a disaster! :(

Afternoon all!

I've just had to change my MFP profile's starting weight, because I came to realize that the one I entered was a fluke reading. So I'm starting from 2kgs heavier, but happier as it's a more accurate reading. Will weigh in on Thursday, a week into using MFP, to see if I've lost them!

Had an OK day, although did indulge in my "cheat meal" for the week - some tapas and a pint with friends. Shame I'd already eaten a sandwich a couple of hours previous!

Got a doner kebab tonight, so will need to swim that off tomorrow! :)

Hi everyone!

How has everyone done this week? I know that some of us have put on this week, myself included (1lb on) but i think i know why that is. I have had a heavy foody and drinky weekend and also i haven't been eating enough for the last 2 weeks and have struggled to get over 1,000 cals a day!! I have made myself eat alot more today tho and have had snacks to build up my calories. I'm hoping that as long as i stick to my daily calories (1,520) then i should start losing again. I dont think i will necessarily eat my exercise cals but at least i know they are there, should i need to eat them!

Today I am mostly wearing cargo trousers and a fitted vest top. No one has run screaming from me and there have been no alerts for stranded whales on the news so far (although I am off to the beach in a bit so that may change). No more weight loss this week but a huge amount of toning appears to have happened on my stomach.

rgpargy the gain is from the carby weekend - I gain 3lbs every time I have a carby weekend. Currently 3lbs up after DH's cousin's wedding on Sunday night, prewedding party on Saturday and post wedding party last night! Plan to loose the 3lbs by Friday morning so need to be very careful this week.

In terms of not eating enough for 2 weeks that wouldn't be long enough for your body to go into any sort of starvation mode - but yes 1200-1400 more healthy than 1000. I have the opposite - I have never ever managed a day under 1,150.

Morning all!

Ugh, last night, went out for a meal and drinks with a friend I've not seen in a while.

Had samosas, then a taco salad, which in itself might be OK. Had a few drinks though. Ooops, so no doubt there'll be some weight on on Thursday when I do my 1 week weigh in. At least I resisted the puddings

However, today is a new day and all that :) I need to buy a tape measure to do my measurements as they shrink before the scale does for me... any ideas where to buy one?

Hi everyone!
I've been swimming today - hooray - but not so good as I've been with my DD, so no lengths for me :o(
Plus, she spotted Pizza Hut and really really really wanted to go there for her lunch - I have no self control......all the extra calories lost during swimming were definately gained again at lunchtime!

I've been doing OK, got 2 new exercise DVD's so off for a workout in a minute. Weighing in tomorrow as it'll be 1 week since I joined MFP. I think the indulgences with friends may have caused a gain though :( Must try harder next week!

Forever - phew thanx for that! Glad i'm not the only one who has a gain after a carby weekend. At least it's not permanent! I am down 5lb from Monday's weight but it's not the law as Monday is weigh day and Monday's weight IS law!! Hmm

Ezzie - Well done on the jeans!! I know how that feels! I bought a pair of trousers from America years and years ago but never got into them enough to actually wear them. You know the scenario - oooh these are nice. They are very snug. That's ok, i'll slim into them. 6 years later they are still in my wardrobe with the labels on and had never been worn lol. I finally managed to get into them in November last year but man, they were really tight! Now however, they are really loose and will only last me probably another month before they look hideously too big for me!! :o

Lollipop - well done on resisting pudding!! Not sure i could have been so strong, going by what i ate over the weekend!! Blush What DVDs did you get? How was your weigh in?!!

Twinkle - Mmmmmmm pizza!!!! Love that stuff! Thankfully i dont eat it that much but if i was eating at pizza hut i'd just have to throw in the towel to the diet and stuff my face!

rgpargy everyone puts on weight after carb heavy meals. Carbs, esp simple ones like sugar and alcohol cause water rentention. Another reason why diets are more successful with Monday weigh ins. If you want a good Monday weight need to have a careful weekend.

Meanwhile after 2 careful days I'm 4lbs down on Tuesday morning's weight and back to my lowest weight of 8st 9lbs.

Afternoon everyone! One week of MFP, and I weighed in this morning:

Starting weight: 184lbs or 83.5kgs
Weigh in 7/7/11: 182lbs or 82.3kgs (have rounded the pounds up).
Weight loss: 1lb

So, I'm on target. Although due to working 5 hours in a charity shop today, and walking through town to get lunch, I have 1580 calories left. Shan't be eating all of those! Although I was v. silly and had a mcmuffin for breakfast as I forgot to eat before leaving home and was STARVING by the time I got into town!

Eugh, can't believe I actually ate the thing, it really wasn't that nice! Next time, breakfast at home!

Trust me tinker, the breakfasts will be given a wide berth in future. Yuk. I can go absolutely ages between visits, but I was hungry and it was open this morning so I went.

Nice thing about where I volunteer, is that on Wednesdays when I do a full day, I can take lunch in and leave it in their fridge.

My bridesmaid dress arrived today and it fits!!!! Woooo!! The best thing is that it will look even better if i lose a bit more so more incentive to keep going Smile
