I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

pebbles I suffer from terrible constipation, things that I have found that work :

Oatbran - usually make it into porridge (on the hob as its minging made in microwave)
Cup of warm water with half a lemon squeezed in on a morning before anything else
Senokot max strength Blush

jasper · 28/06/2011 20:40

thanks for the advice re tiredness.
My previous diet was pretty healthy, just too much !

I always feel very tired if I am losing weight . I guess we are all different.

And sadly, I have never felt energised by exercise!

hillyhilly · 28/06/2011 20:49

Forever, my name is hillyhilly on MFP, could you be my friend please (I feel about 5 asking you this Blush but you seem to be pretty inspirational (not to mention dedicated)

RGPargy · 28/06/2011 21:29

Hooray! we all seem to be alive and well again Wink

I only lost a pound this week so i am going to go and have a look at what i ate on the week i lost six pounds and see what i am doing differently. I know i will lose my slowly as time goes on but i am starting to panic that i wont lose any more weight!

I am also feel very guilty. I am supposed to be low carbing and today i had some pasta for dinner. It wasn't a huge portion and i was enjoying it but i made myself leave some in my bowl (and i weighed the left overs so i got an accurate log on MFP lol) as i felt soooo guilty eating pasta of all things! Am i being daft??? I had a very rubbish lunch as i was at the beauticians getting my eyelash extensions (oooo get me being all la-di-dah and caring about my appearance!!) so didn't have time to have a proper lunch as DD was in pre-school and had a very limited window. I just grabbed 3 oatcakes with peanut butter and then a Eat Natural cereal bar. A bit too carby probably, but sometimes it cant be helped. My diary is open so feel free to have a look.

Forever - i used to get like that when i was thin before, many years ago! I would be exceptionally good for months and then i would have whole week of just eating crap. Funnily enough, it was during those crap eating weeks that people would tell me i looked like i had lost weight! Odd!

foreverondiet · 28/06/2011 22:35

rgpargy - I had a quick look at your MFP and maybe still a bit carby. You will def loose more. Make sure you have good quality protein at lunch and dinner - think fish/meat/poultry/eggs etc. But normal to only loose 1lb the week after you loose 6lbs, its not linear. Also normal to have really good weeks food wise and other weeks when the food isn't great.

Again I really recommend the eat yourself slim book & hynosis, I think you'd like it.

RGPargy · 28/06/2011 22:48

Thanx Forever. I normally do myself an omelette and salad or some chicken and salad for lunch and i have trying to avoid (like the plague!) anything carby like pasta.

I will take a look at the eat yourself slim book and will give Paul McKenna's hypnosis another go on the CD too and see if that makes a difference. I would just hate to start slipping back into my old carby ways again, especially so soon!!

Geordieminx · 28/06/2011 22:57

I have been having Melba toast things from asda instead of bread this week which has been a nice change, especially with soup. They are only 13kcal each and delicious with chilly philidelphia on!

Geordieminx · 29/06/2011 08:04

Dropping in as totally pissed off. Just been weighed, expecting to have lst a lb since I had a great day yesterday, only to find I have put on. Am totallySad,

Yesterday I had

Activa fat free yoghurt and a fibre bar for breakfast

Small homemade chicken salad for lunch, just lettuce, peppers tomato chicken and a teaspoon of salad cream

Dinner was half a pot of chilli bean soup with 4 Melba toast and some philly.

Had a snack size chocolate bar as a wee treat, did an hours skiing.

So fed up with it. Especially since when I got off the scales and told Dh he laughed. I nearly stabbed him with his toothbrush.

At the me moment I am torn between eating nothing today just to get back on track, and having a complete blow out.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 29/06/2011 10:32

DO NEITHER

Right, so I have slipped and put on 2 pounds since last weigh in, not happy with myself at all and have not been mfp it for a while. Today am back on track!!!! I hope!!!!

redderthanred · 29/06/2011 11:35

hi all
Thought i should pop in and say hi.
I am just so busy right now that ive not had the time to come on here hardly at all.
Well done to all those with losses.
:)
I sort of got back to it all middle of last week, then after fridays summer garden party, fell into a carb overlode, from which i was really ill from.
Im back on track again ( though i did have 3 fahitas for dinner last night when i only should have had 2.. but i hadnt had anything other than fruit all day) Anyway, im off to see take that friday ( fuck, yeah!) and then go away on holiday monday.
So, after feeling a bit crap about it all for the last few days ive just decided to eat as well as i can and not worry about it. Ive lost weight ( almost 2 stone) and when i come back i will lose more. I should not enjoy take that nor my holiday less because they may involve 'naughty food or booze'
I am not a less a person because i am a size 14 when i would like to be a 12.
Ive had fruit and yougurt for breakfast ( as usual) and have a salad for lunch again, and will do tomorrow and am actually taking one to take that to eat at the hotel ( so, trying to limit eating too much crap) but if i want chips at 2am in the morning in london after drinking rum.. then ill have them and not worry.

:)

i shall be back properly once i return from hols, that is, unless ive kidnapped howard or robbie and gone into hiding with them :)

foreverondiet · 29/06/2011 12:01

geordie - oh dear re: weight in. But don't get too despondent... firstly weight will not really be affected by one days eating, and having huge blow out (or starving yourself will not help).

re: the melba toasts - don't dwell on the fact they are only 13 calories each, as they have little fibre and are basically processed white carbs. Fine as a treat but not really any better than white bread. Go for crackers with a higher fibre content.

RGPargy · 29/06/2011 22:22

Hi everyone

Just a quickie - What can i eat that's low carb but high in calories? I seem to keep falling way under my calories but other than seeds, i dont know what else i could eat? I suppose i could snack on ham or something but...... pleh!

RGPargy · 29/06/2011 22:23

Red - Very Envy of you going to see Take That!!! Have a fab time!

foreverondiet · 29/06/2011 23:30

Low in carbs & high calories: choose healthy fats - nuts, seeds, full fat natural greek yoghurt, avocado, olives, coconut, cheese. Salad dressing with olive oil.

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 30/06/2011 06:53

Well hellooooooooo people! Bit late with my weigh in this week but who cares when I can say....... - 2kg baby, - 2kg. Ywo months of minimal loss and some gains despite exercising religiously and eating healthily. One week of being happy and having music tv on and dancing all day (not a sight to be dwelled on) and things start to happen. Now all I need to do is remember how to fall asleep at night (I'm currently getting 3-5 hours broken sleep a night) and I'll have to energy to get back out on my bike in the mornings. And a looooong summer holiday (starts tomorrow) of walks on the beach and days out with the kids to keep it coming off Grin.

RGPargy · 30/06/2011 10:29

Thanks Forever! I will write a list of those things and make sure i always have some! I'm so glad cheese is on that list - i can ALWAYS do a bit of cheese and haven't really touched it for aaaages!! :o

Gilbonzo - hello and welcome back!! Great news on the 2kg loss!! :o Hope you manage to get a bit more sleep - sounds awful!!

foreverondiet · 30/06/2011 10:55

I have some lovely cheese in the fridge (french camembert) - I cut off 30g as a snack! Do have to be careful as calories mount up quite fast, but if it has a good flavour the small quantity doesn't matter.

redderthanred · 30/06/2011 12:20

GIBS!!! YAY!!! fantastic :) :) :) bloody amazing. well done ;)

rg - cheese is indeed food of the gods. I do the same as forever and will cut off tiny amounts as a snack.

Had a most excellent eating day yesterday, no carbs at all, and honestly, the difference i feel, physically, not eating them is huge. When i eat carbs i feel bloated ( visibly bloated) and my stomach hurts and then i get trapped wind and then i feel sleepy and letharic and just rubbish.
Yesterday i felt fab and was still wide awake at 11pm. ( late for me)
Today is being another good eating day and i have prewarned those im going on holiday with that i will not be eating fry ups every day nor rounds and rounds of sandwiches and crisps. I think that if i can at least eat well for 2/3rds of the day.. thats not bad for a holiday.

foreverondiet · 30/06/2011 14:39

Well I finally bought the "treat" I promised myself back in October if I lost the weight - a laser hair removal machine! Decided that I have managed to maintain weight now for more than 3 months, and I am pretty confident about maintaining longer term (although I know I am not immune to calories!) and so it was time for the "treat"!

Went for the homedics "me" as recommended by man in boots.

LollipopViolet · 30/06/2011 15:04

Hello everyone!

I'm on anther thread in here, but noticed the MFP thread here and thought I'd try and gain some more friends over there. My name on there is the same as here :) Come say hi and laugh at my starting pic!

RGPargy · 30/06/2011 16:40

Hi LollipopViolet! Will add you!

Forever - ooooo well done on the hair removal machine! Let me know how you get on as i have a top lip (albeit a very very fair one) that could do with some sort of hair removal system!! Am tempted to get it threaded when i get my eyebrows done but i'm very scared of having stubble so it has remained untouched. It doesn't really show as my hair is very fair but i hate it coz i know it's there!! I feel very sorry for those girls who have very dark hair!!

RGPargy · 30/06/2011 16:43

Red - well done on the eating! It's amazing how much of a difference cutting right down on the carbs makes! I wouldn't worry too much about holiday eating but it sounds like you have it sussed so i'm sure you'll be fine.

LollipopViolet · 30/06/2011 16:51

I've just done 10 minutes dancing and think I've found my at-home workout :) Small bursts of dance is something I really enjoy. I'm going to find lots of songs that have accompanying dances, get them into a playlist on itunes and dance them every day. Great as I can't get to the pool at the moment due to insane amounts of referral work for uni...

hillyhilly · 01/07/2011 09:35

Lollipop, i can only imagine that small frequent bursts of dancing will do wonders for your metabolic rate!!

I have finally lost a pound this morning! After a huge moan on Weds (my official weigh in day), AF arrived this morning, I have done plenty of exercise and been active as much as possible.

This weekend should be ok as we are only out on Saturday night and home the rest of the time, so I'm feeling positive about my ability to keep it off.

"Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey" seems to be the key for me, frustrating but going in the right direction which is what matters.

LollipopViolet · 01/07/2011 13:02

I forgot to weigh in today :( I always do it before eating or drinking anything and completely forgot, so will do so tomorrow :)

I have next to no stamina so small bursts of exercise are best to start, I think. I do swim pretty well, can do about 10 lengths without a break, do 3 sets of 10 a session, which is about half a mile, so not bad at all :)
