I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

right - i need help and i need it now :)
im having a bloody difficult time getting back into eating right.
Ive fallen off the wagon in a huge way and just cant seem to get in the right frame of mind.
Post lego land wasnt too bad, but then friday happened ( jacket potato with cheese and beans, vast quanities of rum and a biscuit barrel taken to bed) Saturday can only be described as a hangover carb fest and sunday was a fathers day bbq of lovelyness.
MOnday and tuesday of this week - no excuse. Do you know what i ate last night? ill tell you. TWO slices of toast covered with about an inch of nutella THEN blue brie and crackers, and not a little bit of blue brie either.. about half a slice thing.
Today i was going to be better, ive had strawberries and yogurt for breakfast, my salad is made and in the fridge for lunch and do you know what ive just done... EATEN 8 chocolates.
I didnt even want them.
Please, give me a kick up the backside.

I alwasy get stuck at this weight. One because i sort of look ok ish. So i suddenly think im immune to calories and eat like a crazy person and gain it all.
And then there is now an emotional reason which has happened in the last few days. Im not going to go into it, and i know its why ive been eating lots.. but knowing that and doing anything about it are two different things. ( its not a bad thing, its not comfort eating)

HELP ME!!!!!! :)

foreverondiet · 22/06/2011 11:11

red it can be hard to get back on track, esp once you have lost some weight, but if you continue you'll undo all your excellent work.

Firstly I really recommend a new book I just bought, called adore yourself slim, by Lisa Jackson particularly the CD that comes with it. It will help you get into frame of mind - I have read so many books and this one really is worth it. I listened to Paul McKenna when I was lapsing - the Lisa Jackson CD has a track specifically to help you if lapsing.

Secondly, to ease yourself into the diet again, make loads of low calorie food like soup, salad and quorn/chopped tomato stew. Once you have eaten it you'll feel really full. Also reach for diet coke and extra gum.

redderthanred · 22/06/2011 11:28

i know that. i have to get to a healthy bmi. That was my goal.
And ive not been lower than this weight for about 7 years. I always get stuck at this point. because i sort of look passable.
People start giving me compliments and then i just seem to think i can eat what i want and it doesnt matter. IT DOES.
I know this and yet ive still eaten 8 chocolates before lunch time.

Urgh - i dont drink fizzy anything ( unless it has rum in it) and gum isnt anything id have either. Like i said its not because im hungry. i dont even fancy what ive eaten the last 2 days. Ive just eaten it. For NO reason.

My salad is made, its not like ive not got healthy food in or im not being organsed about it. Im still eating the healthy meals. ( after lego land and monday and tuesday) its just i keep eating extra things on top of the healthy stuff.
Im was quite happy to write off this weekend, but bloody hell, i think its too many days off, coupled with the time off from lego land as well.

I think i just need somone to be harsh and say ' you are still fat, stop eating crap you daft woman'!!!! lol

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 22/06/2011 12:56

Red I do exactly the same thing and I get so angry with myself. I lose a bit of weight, have a 'relaxed' day, don't see the effects the next day so think that it's ok and carry on that way until I'm out of the habit of eating healthily. I've learnt to accept that I do this, let myself have a week couple of days of being 'bad' and then try and get back on track. I know that I'm like a spoilt child and if I don't let myself have the odd blow out I will either stop eating all together or forget the diet completely and eat shit forever.

I'm just coming out the end of a few days of bad eating which was brought on by shit going on and I'm practically having to wean myself off the bad stuff like a drug addict!

redderthanred · 22/06/2011 16:19

Thanks Gibs @)

You are still a lard arse!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

lol

Actually, if i dont eat anything else the rest of the day im actually under cals. Not a great eating day, but at least i can minimise damage this way. And thinking about it, pre late night scoffing session yesterday id only had about 500 for the whole day, so probably not THAT awful.

Not healthy to have most of your cals from junk food though.

foreverondiet · 22/06/2011 17:26

red could it be you did the late night scoffing as you were genuinely hungry as you'd only had 500 calories all day? Perhaps aim to eat 1000 calories on healthy food and choose a 200 calorie treat for the evening?

Bradsmum · 22/06/2011 18:37

Hi all
Have just signed up for MFP - chilledsauvignon Smile is the name... not that I ever drink the stuff naturally! Or eat nutella... but could do with some support to lose 2 stone or so if anyone wants to add as friend..

RGPargy · 22/06/2011 22:23

Hi everyone!

Red and Gibs - THIS IS YOUR OFFICIAL KICK UP THE JACKSIES!! Now tut tut, get back on it this instant!! :o

bradsmum - have added you as a friend.

Forever - interesting what you were saying about tricking the metabolism. I will deffo bear that in mind (today could be that trick day!! lol) so i dont have a stall or anything!

Quite interesting what your ki fit was saying tho wasn't it! I am in awe of all your exercise!!

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 23/06/2011 07:08

Bloody hell I'm back on it! This might sound like the bitchiest thing in the world but I have a friend who has to beat me at everything and gets all smug about it, but the one thing I'm better at is losing weight so I'm bloody well gonna make myself look amazing. So ha!

Oooo I'm such a cow. But who gives a fuck if it works Grin

Join me in this burst of positivity red. We'll beat the bastard fat cells!

ezzie21 · 23/06/2011 07:26

having fallen out with my scales i have only used the tape measure as a guide im going in the right direction

i have had to do two measurements....one for my waist and one further down for my belly button Blush

this morning they were both in the same place Grin

i may have put children off their breakfast with some 'show and tell'

foreverondiet · 23/06/2011 10:21

rgpargy - look up zigzagging calories or cycling calories. Its fine to have days of eating under 1200 as long as not consistent over long periods of time.

Ki fit gave total of 3413 calories yesterday!!!!

PebblesAndWine · 23/06/2011 11:08

Help help help. I feel like shit.

I was crap on Friday (wine, pizza, general happy things) pretty crap on Saturday (school fete, hog roast, couldn't resist) so this week have been so so good, hardly any carbs, under calorie, some exercise.

And I weigh (not my official wi until tomorrow) and I'm the same?! Wtf?????!!!!

I tell you, I'm so bloody constipated and haven't lost a thing. Whats the point?

Oh and can I take laxatives? I'm in pain here!

PebblesAndWine · 23/06/2011 11:08

Oh and Gil go for it!!!

foreverondiet · 23/06/2011 11:35

pebbles I find I can still loose if one cheat meal at the week, but if its a whole cheat weekend then also my weight would stall that week... for me it takes a whole week of being good to recover from 2 days of feasting!

Yes take laxatives or prunes!

RGPargy · 23/06/2011 11:35

Gilbonzo - :o You crack me up!! Go for it! I'm sure you will look even more fabuloso in no time!

Ezzie - well done on the tape measure victory! lol @ show & tell mummy :o

P&W - Look at it this way. You have stayed the same because you have counteracted the badness of the weekend with being very good during the week. If you had put ON weight, you would be feeling worse but the fact that you've stayed the same is a great thing, isn't it?! Especially after your lovely sounding food fest on Friday AND Saturday! Well done for keeping it real and staying on track! :)

PebblesAndWine · 23/06/2011 11:41

Ah you're both right. Maybe I will have lost a pound by tomorrow?!

I think I need to have smaller goals. A pound a week would be ok (I'd I wasn't going on bloody holiday in two weeks and desperate to be under 11st!!!)

RGPargy · 23/06/2011 13:42

Oh no!!! Look at that girl on the beach!! She doesn't way less than 11 stone!!! Shock Shock Shock Shock

Wink

Just do what you can between now and your holiday but a couple of pounds really wont matter. I know it's a personal goal but all you can do is try your best and be happy knowing that that is what you have done. :)

RGPargy · 23/06/2011 13:42

*weigh

PebblesAndWine · 23/06/2011 14:33

Grin RG, first time I've smiled all blooming day!!!! Grin

foreverondiet · 23/06/2011 15:13

news.uk.msn.com/health/articles.aspx?cp-documentid=158337115

Link to article about study - interesting point:

"But focusing on calories alone was not the best way to stay slim. The secret was to focus on the quality of foods, especially carbohydrates....weight-watchers were advised to cut out sugar-sweetened drinks, potatoes, and refined grain foods such as white bread, white rice and low-fibre breakfast cereals. At they same time they were urged to eat more "natural" foods, such as fruit and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and yoghurt, while avoiding anything processed."

Nothing so new here but nice to see it acknowledged (ie that all calories are not created equal).

RGPargy · 23/06/2011 15:35

:o

PebblesAndWine · 23/06/2011 19:27

I've come to the conclusion that I'm actually, at the moment anyway, totally full of shit. Literally.

foreverondiet · 23/06/2011 22:13

So day 2 of the ki fit... (borrowed from friend)

Yesterday was a non work day - went to gym, did some ironing, walked to school to get DC (instead of driving) and did shred - total burn 3413!!!!

Today I was at work, included 10 min walk to tube, 5 mins to office at other end, plus walking around at lunchtime, and home, plus shred - total burn 2344 so far... (although going to bed soon!).

So according to the ki fit am using more than MFP estimates - 1530 a day (although did put in sedentary) - haven't managed to upload it to PC yet so maybe numbers will be different when I do....

PebblesAndWine · 24/06/2011 09:21

Wow Forever, I think I want one of them, itwould be really interesting.

You burn A LOT!

Well, I lost a pound. But, I reckon when I finally do a poo (sorry way TMI) I'll lose a Stone at least! Tried laxatives and nothing Confused

pasqueflower · 24/06/2011 09:41

Pebbles - are you drinking enough water? And eating enough fibre? - e.g. wholemeal bread rather than white, and fruit?
