I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

I think so. I had been trying low carbs this week, don't think its for me!

I had some wholemeal bread last night and drink loads of water, fingers crossed that will help.....no more low carbs now!

ThanksSmile

Forever Interesting stuff, although nothing a lot of us dont already know! Processed rubbish is terrible for you, but the trouble is of course it tastes too bloody nice!!

P&W Hope you finally get your poo today! :o I generally find a cup of tea at breakfast time does the trick for me, but i'm generally very regular...... Blush

I'm supposed to be going out tonight with the girls. What can i drink for damage limitation? As a rule, i dont like coke so please dont suggest vodka and diet coke! I like vodka but not coke! Ideas please! :o

RGPargy · 24/06/2011 10:24

I find too many carbs gives me a very loose tummy!! Blush

PebblesAndWine · 24/06/2011 10:40

What about gin and slimline tonic?

I drink loads of coffee, which should in theory help?! Bizarre, if it doesn't get better over the weekend I shall go and see Dr on Monday......

jasper · 24/06/2011 11:00

watching with interest. I might join in!

RGPargy · 24/06/2011 11:26

Gin? Pleh! I dont do gin lol.

Next suggestion please! :o

PebblesAndWine · 24/06/2011 11:43

Vodka and slimline! Wink

PebblesAndWine · 24/06/2011 11:43

You should Jasper!

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 24/06/2011 12:22

Vodka over crushed ice and strawberry syrup - although I think you can only get the syrups (thicker than concentrate but not sugary like English syrup) over here so not much help really.

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 24/06/2011 12:23

Ooo ooo oooo - vodka and red grape juice. It makes me feel like a grown up Grin (I hate wine)

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 24/06/2011 12:25

And, finally (unless I think of more) dh brought back from England a lime and kiwi fruit drink which was frikkin fantastic with vodka.

RGPargy · 24/06/2011 12:28

Yeah come on Jasper, join in! :o

Hmmm, i could do vodka and diet tonic..... Hmm

I would love to have a voddy and strawberry syrup with crushed ice but i really cant see my local Wetherspoons selling that. Even if they do, i'd probably need a second mortgage to pay for it! Dont think they do red grape juice in bars, do they?? Confused

RGPargy · 24/06/2011 12:31

Lime and Kiwi?? Sounds nice! It also sounds like one of the flavours of 20/20 that used to be about years ago. Anyone old enough to remember it? I used to love the strawberry one but the kiwi and lime (or was it lemon??) was a good alternative if my local offy had run out of strawberry 20/20! A bottle of that and a packet of skittles (when they contained E numbers that made you hyper!) before i went out and i was set for the night!! :o

foreverondiet · 24/06/2011 12:43

pebbles I tried low carb and also got v v constipated but found that if I had oatbran in my yoghurts each day it was enough to keep me regular. I also eat fruit though... which helps. Buy some glycerin suppositories, will def help. And eat prunes.

Gym trip this morning was disappointing on ki fit - only 400 cals. FFS, I had burned 500 cals in my sleep between midnight and 7am when I woke up! And bear in mind that a) I ran for 30 mins on treadmill doing interval training up to 15km a mile at times and b) It would have been around 150 cals if I'd been shopping or something.

So my conclusion - the machines TOTALLY and UTTERLY overestimate the number of calories you use (so do not eat them all!!!) AND you actually use quite a lot of calories looking after the DC. Yes gym is fab for cardio health and toning but little point in going unless you push yourself.

RGPargy · 24/06/2011 12:47

When i got my HRM i discovered that the machines (and MFP!) really do overestimate the amount of cals burned. MFP reckons i will burn over 900 cals for an hour's step class but in reality, i normally burn around 450! I also now 99% of the time do not eat my exercise calories if at all possible but i dont panick if i do go into them!

Gym is also great as a social event too Wink

foreverondiet · 24/06/2011 13:27

The ki fit is a heart rate monitor but also senses: sweat, temperature, pedometer and movement.

Interestingly on the treadmill I put in my weight and also it took my heart rate a couple of times. It was only around 10-15% over. The elliptical trainer on the other hand was around double.

I am surprised by how many calories burnt during the day; I put in that I was sedentary on MFP as my job is a desk job - so that was 1,530. But even yesterday (work day) it claimed I burned 2,525. It estimated shred to be around 170, so that's still over 2,300 on a work day (I do walk to station, from station to work and try and walk at lunchtime). BUT I am eating between 1200-1500 each day and not loosing weight (no weight loss for last few weeks).

Basically its all estimates and it has confirmed my view that I would not buy one, because even if you know calories in and calories out still not guarantee you'll loose.

RGPargy · 24/06/2011 23:00

Thank goodness you borrowed one before you went out and spent money on one, eh?!

Well, i didn't go out tonight after all :( I text my friend at 1pm and asked if the night out was still on as i hadn't heard from her but it's now 11pm and i've not heard back. My other friend who was also coming out hasn't heard from her either. I know she's probably with this fancy bloke she's met up with but a simple text to say she wasn't coming would have been much more courteous than no reply at all!! I a bit narked actually because my best friend's dad has just died and she could really have done with some company tonight but obviously i didn't go round there as i thought i was going out! GGRR!!

I have had a large little vodka and 7Up instead. :o

RGPargy · 27/06/2011 21:28

Where is everyone?!!! Shock

foreverondiet · 27/06/2011 21:44

I am here! I ate too much over the weekend and didn't log food on MFP. Saturday was fair enough as were at friends for lunch and at this stage I don't want to restrict myself when out socially. Plus the food was quite healthy - veggie soup to start, salads, chicken etc. However for some reason kept on eating too much on sunday including kit kat and twix plus solero and biscuits, even though wasn't hungry. No real reason. One of those things would have been totally fine. Anyway back on straight and narrow today. Think probably as have been denying myself for so long, every so often need a little cheat.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 27/06/2011 21:48

Oh dear, just ate a mixed bag of maltesers - sadly i feel rather sick which I suppose it good btu also quite bad! not been doing so well recently. Sad

jasper · 27/06/2011 22:56

I posted elsewhere about this but does one always feel tired when losing weight?

foreverondiet · 28/06/2011 09:23

jasper - that hasn't been my experience (tiredness) at all. In fact more likely now to feel tired and sluggish if I cheat.

pasqueflower · 28/06/2011 13:47

Jasper - you may feel tired if you're detoxing a bit - i.e. if your diet was full of rubbish before and you're cutting back on sugar, cakes, alcohol.

But if you eat healthily and exercise, you should get over that. Exercise is great for boosting energy - make yourself do it even if you don't feel like it because it releases endorphins which give you a natural "high".

And make sure you drink plenty of water and (of course) have enough sleep - 7-8 hours (not so easy with small dc admittedly).

Good luck! I'm alternating between posting on MFP and here - it's like leading a double life.

Geordieminx · 28/06/2011 14:55

Hey ladies!

Sorry to be missing in action, haven't really been up to much, although last week I had major PMT and consequently was in a foul mood.

Weight loss is happening slowly but surely here, 8lb in 2 weeks, finding it easier this week than last when I wanted to eat the entire fridge!

Have tried to get more exercise in, despite being totally bored by it. Have joined a local gym, went swimming while ds had a lesson on Sunday and have even been skiing today!

Am trying to be extra good this week as have night in piss on Friday... Going to be messy.

Is it bad that I am already planning blow out for first stone? [grin{

foreverondiet · 28/06/2011 15:23

Well I know have explanation for chocolates / ice cream on sunday - its TOTM! I didn't realise it was coming as I have (PCOS and) a mirena so its all a bit irregular. Am hoping therefore that my excess weekend weight will soon be gone!

Giving back ki fit on Wednesday and will be glad to say goodbye to it! Will NOT be buying one, as TBH don't see the point.
