I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

Hi

Can I join your thread?

I found my Fitness Pal back in January when I first started this diet. I have been starting on Monday every week since Hmm

I have started again today and really need to do this now. I put on my summer clothes over Easter and they were as tight as they were last summer! Gave me a big wake up call but I think I could do with some motivation!

Rugbylovingmum · 26/04/2011 09:55

Morning all,

I've been completely rubbish Blush. I managed to stick to using MFP for all of 2 days before a rotten virus, visiting relatives and a very annoying boss distracted me. I am determined to give it a better go this time if you'll have me back. I have weighed in this morning, had porridge for breakfast and have set up a fitness program thing on my Biggest Loser wii game. That will give me workouts on 3 days a week and I also want to do my Davina dvd and my Zumba dvd at least once a week each.

I am 14st 4lbs Sad.

My best friend's hen do is in 10 weeks time and I'd really love to be under 13st by then so I'm going to really go for it. Her wedding is in September so after the hen do I'll use that as a goal.

Well done to everyone who has lost weight so far Grin!

Welcome to the thread PegPolkadot. Tell us your MFP name and we'll add you as a friend.

hairypotter · 26/04/2011 11:30

Hi peg, welcome. We've been going for around 3 or 4 wks now and I'm finding it easier to get back on the wagon so to speak knowing I'm coming on here to share on Monday's. The support from everyone is fab and we are all working to the same goal.

Helloooo rugbymum hope you're feeling better now. Good luck with your new goal. What Zumba DVD do you use? I borrowed a set at weekend but I was rubbish at trying to follow it. Didn't recognise any of the music from the classes I used to go to either, and to be honest it was probably the fantastic latino music that kept me going. I've started doing wii Zumba and it's ok. Bloody shred DVD is killing me tho. Still, can def feel muscles somewhere under the lard Smile

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 26/04/2011 11:37

Hello Peg, welcome!

Rugbymumm! nice to have you back. Which Davina dvd do you do? I love 30 min workouts because they kill me and make me feel like I'm doing some good. I use Power of 3 when I'm not feeling so energetic but still need to do something. Unfortunately my knees are buggered so I can only do the leg sections occasionally.

PegPolkadot · 26/04/2011 11:39

Hi. I am PegPolkadot on MFP too- saves any confusion on my part!

I have weighed myself this morning and am 12st 4lb. My aim is to get to 11 stone initially.

I desperately need to get into my size 14 summer clothes. I refuse to buy the next size up! I have hardly any summer clothes that fit so have a huge incentive every morning when I get up and have hardly any clothes that fit!

Rugbylovingmum · 26/04/2011 12:02

Hi Gilbonzo, I have her superbody workout which is a cross between aerobics and kickboxing. It's good as I know I can finish it without having to do the lower impact versions of the exercises but it's still a good workout. At some point I might have to try something a bit more challenging. I have a Nell McAndrew DVD to try next - I've heard that is a bit harder, has anyone tried it?

Rugbylovingmum · 26/04/2011 12:46

Hi hairypotter, I missed your post. I have Zumba (2008), a 4 pack of dvd's. Which one did you borrow? These look quite good but I haven't tried them yet so I have no idea whether I will be able to follow it or not. I've never managed to get to a class - they are really oversubscribed at my local sports centre - so nothing for the dvds to live up to.

The Shred is still sitting on my bookcase unopened, I'm not feeling brave enough to give it a go yet. If I do these next 4 weeks of my biggest loser game and the dvds then I want to try the 30 day shred leading up to the hen weekend.

I am off to Manchester this Sunday to do the half marathon Shine walk for Cancer UK. Should be fun and earn me a few extra calories Smile.

PegPolkadot · 26/04/2011 22:43

Thanks to everyone who added me!

The good news is I managed to eat less than 1200 calories today. The bad news is that I'm lying in bed and feel hungry!

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 27/04/2011 06:15

I off to catch a boat in a few mins which I'll be on for 9 hours. Everytime I do this trip I end up eating crap to stave off the boredom and get through watching Cars 3 times in a row. i've packed loads of healthy snacks but I also have the obligatory biscuits and crisps for the children so I'll have to try and avoid them. Dh has also said that we're having fish and chips when we get to England so I may have to write today off if I don't have enough will power to go to the shop next door and get a sandwich.

tookoolforskool · 27/04/2011 09:45

gilbonzo - have a good trip :)
i think its quite hard when life gets in the way of dieting, but the thing probably is to just get back on it the next day, rather than saying ( which is what i used to do) oh well, start again monday, and ill eat whatever i like for the rest of the week.

Ive eaten badly this last two weeks. Pizza hut, then easter sunday, day out on monday ( all of which left me with a very very upset stomach) and ive a big party friday.

Life happens.

Havent weighed myself yet, was in a race this morning and will be tomorrow too, so it will have to be friday.

hairypotter · 27/04/2011 10:12

Not a great day here yesterday either. Had 2 packets of crisps then made choc chip cookies for dd's and all the friends that appeared back after school. Obviously I had to check they tasted ok (twice).

To make up for it I went for a 2 miles (hilly) walk and managed to jog for a fair bit of it, so im def feeling fitter now. Also did the dreaded shred dvd afterwards so all in all, I just managed to come in under calories for the day.

gilbonzo hope your trip goes ok, I think the boredom would drive me to start munching as well. Am drooling at the thought of fish and chips as well Grin

pegpolkadot Thats what I used to be like on a diet, hungry at bedtime. I think now though, Im eating more because im doing quite a lot more excercise and eating those calories as well, so not depriving myself (see above).

1200 calories is really stingy as well. Somedays I struggle and ive got 1300 plus any excercise. A few people have made food diarys public so you could try and get low cal ideas from there (not me mind you, my food diary is shocking and has to be kept secret! Wink)

tookoolforskool · 27/04/2011 20:06

Arse, just had a bit of a ' stuff my face' half hour. 4 slices.of toast and two cream eggs.
Think I'm coming down with flu and just did.it, wasn't even.hungry.
Am an idiot

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 27/04/2011 20:24

Well was my Aunts funeral today and I missed lunch [chmm], then ate 3 slices of cake and had 3 glasses of champagne and a few "nibbles" oh and a scone.

Good work then.

happenedagain · 27/04/2011 20:30

Hi everyone,

I started fitness pal today, stayed within my calories today :)

How often do you weigh yourselves? I'm thinking I should leave it 1 week before I weigh myself, possibly 2 if I can wait that long.

I'm 10stone and need to be 9stone, any idea how long that will take? How many pounds are most people loosing per week? Smile

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 27/04/2011 20:58

Well, it wasn't too bad. I managed to stick to my cracker bread with cream cheese and cucumber for lunch and only one mini snickers (95 cals) as a snack. As I had done so well and it's 1 month since I quit smoking dh and decided that I deserved a treat so I got fish and chips. OMG, I have never tasted anything so vile in all my life. The chips were so soggy they mushed into one lump and the battered sausage was a soggy ball of grease. I decided that if I was going to have that many cals I needed to enjoy them so I gave mine to dh (skinny git) and had a sandwich when I got to mum's. Grin.

Now I just need to avoid McDonalds for the next 10 days......

RGPargy · 28/04/2011 09:56

Morning everyone!!

Blimey o'reilly you've all been busy on here!! I cant keep up!! Shock

Hello to the newbies! :o Feel free to add me on MFP too! I'm RGPargy on there as well. :)

I've been TERRIBLE on my "diet" since Good Friday and am still being bad since. I blame those pesky easter eggs that are "hidden" in the bag in the dining room. Every night i eat some chocolate and then afterwards I say that i'm all chocolatted out....... until the following night when it calls to me saying "eatttt meeeeeee!!!" I haven't started on DD's chocolate (yet) and am hoping not to either!! I have decided that she has enough chocolate for about six months so i am going to put it away on the top shelf of my wardrobe at the back where i cant see it. I seriously hope all the clothes shoved in front of the bag will muffle out any calling the chocolate decides to do!!

Funnily enough tho, I was 17.3.6 last Friday and then went up to 17.4.6 on Monday. Despite stuffing my face, i am 17.4.0 today. I wonder if that has something to do with the 919 calories i burned off yesterday at the gym??!! Hmm

Will try and catch up with all your news today while i'm at work being frantically busy (not). Hmm

:o

RGPargy · 28/04/2011 09:57

Shock Shock Shock GILBONZO!!!!! Giving away CHIPS??!!!! I bow down to thee!!!!

Rugbylovingmum · 28/04/2011 10:03

Hi all,

I am doing quite well on the eating front despite a small lapse yesterday (I was starving when I got in and the only food I could find was a milky bar and a muller fruit corner, must go shopping!) but I haven't done any exercise except walking to and from work. I just can't find the time just now Sad. On the plus side I submitted two job applications yesterday. One of them is for my ideal job so please keep your fingers crossed for me!

RGPargy · 28/04/2011 10:10

Will keep my fingers crossed for you Ruggers!! :o

VivaLeBeaver · 28/04/2011 10:38

Hi,

I've just signed up. Username is binkacat.

Entered my food for yesterday and I was under on my cals but over on carbs. Some "healthy" stirfry sauce I had was 50 carbs! Shock

I'm doing slimming world but hope this might help me to stop slipping up.

RGPargy · 28/04/2011 10:43

Hi Viva :)

It's surprising how many carbs seem to be hidden in all sorts of foods! I found that out when i used to low carb a few years ago. It can be really hard to keep your carbs low unless you are completely going for really natural foods and making alot of your own sauces etc so you know there's no hidden sugar in them etc etc.....

VivaLeBeaver · 28/04/2011 10:50

Yes, there seem to be a lot of carbs in grapes as well! I always thought I ate a fairly low carb diet just because I don't eat a lot of bread/pasta.

PegPolkadot · 28/04/2011 11:44

Fell off the diet wagon lady night due to sharing a bottle of wine. I don't fancy my chances much over the bank holiday weekend either.

I am still trying to keep under my calorie limit today though.
