I read about the website, myfitnesspal.com on MN. Am truly desperate to stop the ever rising weight gain - I have just topped my full term pregnancy weightSad. I've never really been a dieter, or even believed in diets, but I Have To Do Something. Would love to do it with some other Mumsnetters - anyone interested in joining me?

All the weight loss threads seem so bloated, if you'll pardon the metaphor. I'm intimidated by 537 messages, or 219 messages. Feel I cant be arsed to read through all that and I will never be part of the club if I dont read the history. Advice please?

Meant 'last' night.

QueenStromba · 28/04/2011 12:05

Well done on giving those chips away Gilbonzo. I did similar on Monday night, after driving home from DP's parents I didn't fancy cooking and since I'd written off the weekend decided to get a chinese. I had about two bites and decided it was mank so made a salad instead. Before I'd have just eaten it even if I wasn't enjoying it just because it was there and I didn't want to waste it - DP's been having it for lunch in work all this week. I've come to the conclusion recently that I've gotten fat from food that I didn't even want or enjoy so I've started doing Paul McKenna eating. I normally have an egg, slice of lean bacon, mushrooms and spinach for breakfast but today I decided I wanted beans instead of the spinach and didn't finish it so ended up eating fewer calories than I normally would.

I am back after nightmare journey, during which I ate several twix from the British Airway tuck box...

DS2 looked totally fit and healthy when we left the hotel (in Arizona) but 2 flights later he had full blown chicken pox... I did suspect he had it when we were in Dallas airport changing planes (ie a few spots on his tummy) but at that point just wanted to get home, and I know once the plane took off from Dallas we would get home....

By the time we got to Heathrow it was so bad (he drew attention to himself with screaming as well) that the air stewardess asked me and said that a paramedic would have to meet us off the plane. It wasn't so bad they just checked him out..... (and announced to whole plane too)... anyway back home delaying weigh in until tomorrow but back on diet.

RGPargy · 28/04/2011 13:25

Queenie - what's Paul McKenna eating??! I have the I Can Make You Thin CD/book. I've listed to the CD about 3 times (but always fall asleep when it's playing) and haven't even glanced at the book..... Blush

Forever - glad you are finally home. What a shame that DS got the pox!!! Other than that, did you have a time time??

foreverondiet · 28/04/2011 13:27

Yes, had a great time. TBH was expecting DS2 to get chicken pox as DS1 had it just before the holiday. Just nightmare on the plane.... and pleased that the spots came out when they did and not earlier or I'd be stranded somewhere.

QueenStromba · 28/04/2011 15:33

You should read the book RGPargy, it only took me a couple of hours to read it (half of it is a journal). Basically you're training yourself to eat like a thin person rather than a fat person. There are four rules to follow:

  1. Eat when you're hungry - don't starve yourself and don't eat when you're not hungry
  2. Eat what you want not what you think you should - the idea is that as you start listening to your body it will tell you what fuel it wants
  3. Eat consciously - pay attention to what you're eating, put your cutlery down between mouthfuls and chew each mouthful 20 times
  4. Stop when you're full - even if you've only got one forkful left on the plate or most of your dinner hasn't been touched

The most important rule is number 3, most of us are overweight because we wolf down our food so quickly that our stomachs don't have a chance to tell us that we're full. This means that you end up feeling stuffed about ten minutes after you've eaten and you get so used to the feeling that it's easy to just keeping picking when you've had more than enough.

RGPargy · 28/04/2011 16:59

Hmmmm perhaps i will give it another bash then Queenie. Not sure about chewing 20 times tho - i'm not sure baked beans can last that long!! [cwink]

QueenStromba · 28/04/2011 18:37

This morning I was putting a bit of mushroom on the fork with my beans which meant I could do the 20 chews thing. I suppose if you are eating something that's impossible to chew that much then you should just count to ten between mouthfuls or something.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 28/04/2011 21:15

LADEEEEZ, YES YOU LOT AM SHOUTING MY LUNGS OUT AT YOU BECAUSE:

I went shopping today and tried on some clothes for a holiday in three weeks - thankfully ds' passport arrived yesterday (phew) although chicken pox is now rife at dd's nursery so who knows..............

VivaLeBeaver · 28/04/2011 21:30

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 28/04/2011 22:35

VivaLeBeaver · 28/04/2011 22:48

Hi, have accepted you.

Did 30 day shred workout today. Really finding the website motivating and hope that lasts.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 28/04/2011 22:53

Its a bit like going to ww/sw and the weigh in, I feel competitive with everyone but at the same time inspired and I don't feel like if I cheat I am on my own, am back on the wagon again almost immediately!

Having a big night tomorrow as bf has just got engaged to her lovely man after a messy divorce so champers will flow!

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 29/04/2011 07:46

Well one Figgy! Nothing beats that feeling! Smile

foreverondiet · 29/04/2011 10:16

Hi all! Looking forward to adding new people on MFP! I weighed myself this morning and the damage from the holiday only 2lbs! Hopefully will loose it within a week.

I did learn a lot on my holiday - eg that no need to finish plate (evening meals platted up and I left the carb each evening) - also make good choices eg omelette for breakfast not waffles and limiting desserts and visits to the tea room.

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 29/04/2011 11:03

Ooh I had the nicest omlette yesterday - arnold benedict with chives and smoked haddock - twas in a restaurant but was so good...........

Well done forever - am so impressed!

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 29/04/2011 19:35

Well done Blush

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoDuck · 29/04/2011 19:39

Another meal out today, this time with my brother and his fiancee. I had a fairly unhealthy meal but was sensible the rest of the day to make up for it.
I was quite impressed that I stuck to being good though as last night I had to get up at 3am to go and look after my God daughter while my best friend had a baby boy. Then I had to drive to Bath (2.5 hours) to my brother's at 9:30 this morning so I'm a touch tired and seriously craving a fag!!

Fingers crossed I can get some exercise in tomorrow and get my head straight again.

hairypotter · 29/04/2011 20:39

Well done figgy Am very jealous Envy I will be delighted if I ever get my arse back into 14's. Bloody easter eggs are still winking at me from the kitchen. Im seriously thinking of giving dh the huge Lindt one (not that he deserves it mind you) but just to get rid of it.

Feel really porky this week, Ive been over my calories twice and missed shred dvd twice Sad must try harder. Can't see me losing anything this week, I feel I've stalled a bit and need to get motivated again.

I will jump on scales on monday if I really have to , good luck everyone.

hairypotter · 29/04/2011 20:48

viva have added you now, Smile happened whats your mfp name?

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 01/05/2011 16:10

This week has not gone well, I did a cheeky weigh in this morning and haven't lost an oz.........

redderthanred · 01/05/2011 18:55

here under a new ( well, old) name. used to be tookoolforskool.

figgy - tbh its been a difficult few weeks for dieters. but on the plus side, you havent gained. You have maintained. which is good :)

Ive been reading a fab blog that i found on mfp. some girl lost 60lbs but it has taken her about 2 years. ( which is a long long time) and shes still got 25 or something to go.

Thing is, its quite motivating. she kept going. She had bad days, or bad weeks.. ( such is life) but just started back up again.

Which is where i think i, most certainly have failed. Ill lose so much and then think its too hard and then stop. or not lose so much in a week and then stop. or have a bad week ( like easter) and just give up. Ive just got to keep at it. And then, once i get to my goal, ive got to remember to stick with it and not go back to old habbits.

Decided to leave weigh in till tue, so it will have been two weeks since my last.
Last of the chocolate/cake has now gone. thank god :)

BUT it my mothers birthday next week and then my sisters the week after.. will work it so its my cheat meal. AND ive had a weak long craving for a chilli con carne with a ton of rice and lots and lots of cheese on the top... am ignoring it at the momment. If it wasnt for the already planned birthday cheat meals id have it next week, so im going to have to wait a whole 3 weeks to eat it!!! 3 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

forever, you have done so well to only put on 2lbs.

foreverondiet · 01/05/2011 20:03

Am on computer as DH, DS1 and DD eating DS1's birthday cake - he is 5 today. I do not want to eat it! And no party due to DS2 still ill (luckily DS1 is having a joint party with classmates in 2 weeks time but was going to do inpromtu party today for relations which didn't happen due to the pox).

Had a hard few days as DS2 has been ill since we've been back including refusing to eat (not a problem) or drink (more problematic). Today has been first MFP day since I've been back (although was good yesterday and FRiday just didn't log) really want to loose the 2lbs!
