Let's start afresh!

OP posts:

Poodle - being hungry is lethal - try and have a small snack mid-afternoon; it make all the difference (I tend to have something with dcs 5ish as no way otherwise could I go until 8.30/9 to eat with dh - that's 8 hours from lunch to wait and I simply can't do it; I turn into loony grumbly starving monster (if he's out I eat with them 6ish)

Supper tonight steak with hollandaise sauce - lovely dh cooking as surprise treat and I am sooo happy as been craving steak since Poodle's initial recipe!

olismum23 · 05/05/2011 21:00

arragh ate so much tonight definitely should not have bought those sugar free reeses cups they are morerish! Grin

FreeButtonBee · 05/05/2011 21:58

Not a textbook evening. 2 glasses wine, some nibbley bits of cheese, a big bacon, asparagus and courgette salad plus a few squares of dark choc. Hoping to sts tomorrow - i ahve done pretty well this week - 4 lbs down since monday.

Tomorrow night is pizza and film night for me and dh. Will try to eat well during the day to make up for it.

Poodlehorse · 06/05/2011 08:12

coffee with the girls and no low carb treats to be had, have had a big brekkie of bacon and scrambled eggs to take me to lunchtime while they stuff their faces with scones. Will power do not leave me now.

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/05/2011 08:24

Have just made an excellent discovery on the drinks front. Sainsbury make a 'no added sugar' cranberry juice drink, which is 0.7g carbs for 200ml. It's in small/individual cartons as well as litre cartons, and it's lovely.

I haven't been drinking it neat, but diluting it with fizzy water or tonic, so the carb count really is minimal. It's got a really good, tart taste so feels quite 'adult', and therefore a good alcohol substitute.

Oh, and it's also lovely with vodka in it! Could be a good substitute for white wine if you're looking for something alcoholic but want to minimise the carbs. (Measure of vodka then 1/3 cranberry and 2/3 sparkling water, lots of ice and a slice of lime).

ConstanceFelicity · 06/05/2011 09:05

Sound good BecauseImWorthIt...

Had a better night- woke with cramps at 5.30 but didn't get the fainting, sweats or runs. So hopefully I'm getting better! And weighed myself this morning... Have lost half a stone this week, which surprised me. :)
Have been trying to calculate my ideal weight, and every website has it different... I know I need to lose about another stone (pleeeeease can I be a 12?)

FreeButtonBee · 06/05/2011 10:58

still 10 4.25 this morning, which is okay. What I expected. I think losing all my holuiday weight in 4 days would be a little bit optimistic!

Man, I am tired. It's odd. My brain is all fired up and in pretty good working order this week. I am really nailing it at work. But physically, I could just curl up under the desk and snoooooooze.

Yoghurt and berries for breakfast. I think I will go for another burrito salad for lunch, then misbehave tonight a bit. Won't get drunk, just eat good homemade pizza and nice bits. I have stopped liking garlic bread Shock! So will go for salad and coleslaw.

CF - your body has been working hard to get over the infection so it's not surprising that you have lost weight. Do make sure that you keep up the water intake and unfortunately you might put some of it back on wehn you start eating properly again!

Poodlehorse · 06/05/2011 12:06

BIWI - that sounds a great tip for an alcohol alternative. Fruity but tart sounds perfect.
Back from coffee and managed to ignore all the scone scoffing no bother. I am hungry now but...it is lunchtime. So off to have salad and smoked mackerel. I still haven't got any spelt flour but am in a baking mood, I might just go find some more low carb cake recipes to print off instead and then maybe put in an onlien order, living in "back of beyond" does make getting hold of some things a bit of a challenge

olismum23 · 06/05/2011 12:58

Hi poodle not trying to be an advert for anyone but i could not find soy flour for love nor money near me in fife, scotland. I got it from www.lowcarbmegastore.com if that helps got it delivered in 2 days along with sugar free vanilla syrup yum!

olismum23 · 06/05/2011 12:59

www.lowcarbmegastore.com

olismum23 · 06/05/2011 13:00

sorry just noticed i did not link it before :)

Poodlehorse · 06/05/2011 13:40

Olismum, well if you can't find it in Fife then I have no chance LOL. I have seen Spelt in delis round here, not so sure about soya flour though but they have all sold out at the moment. So somebody else is buying them! Trouble is I am finding loads of recipes but they all use different flour alternatives. Are they all interchangeable? Has anyone had any success with LC baking?

Poodlehorse · 06/05/2011 13:41

Thanks for the LCM link btw, I have looked at it in the past but ended up buying from Avidlite as it had more of the things I wanted that day, but neither do everything iyswim.

ConstanceFelicity · 07/05/2011 08:28

Still 11 and a half stone this morning, made up with that as I am getting my AF and I have been eating well. Am going to weigh daily this week as I want to keep that poison-induced half a stone off and this may be the best way!

Yesterday:
Veg sausage salad with roasted sunflower seeds for both lunch and dinner.
Lots of blueberries and a few grapes.
Cup of tea.

It's really odd how tea and coffee fill me up: If I have just 2 cups a day, with only a tiny amount of milk, my snacking goes right down.

olismum23 · 07/05/2011 11:45

seem to have platued with my weight loss everywhere on atkins says eat more fat how the h**l am i supposed to do that more importantly i just dont feel right doing it :(

ConstanceFelicity · 07/05/2011 12:19

What you need, olismum, is some dodgy anchovies from Aberaeron... :o

When I plateaued, I had a curry with pilau rice and naan bread. The carbfest seemed to have done something and I went down again after that.

FreeButtonBee · 07/05/2011 13:34

OM you are still starting out. Keep the faith for at least 3 or 4 weeks. I consider a plateau two weeks of no movement! On the fat front, I just go for full fat at options rather than thinking about adding more fat to what I eat. So chicken thighs (with the skin) have more fat than chicken breast - and is tastier. I eat full fat yoghurt/greek yoghurt/have cream and berries. I had two large scrambled eggs with butter for breakfast. It was lovely - no need for bread, and I am still not hungry.

Stil 10 4.25 this morning which is fine given the pizza/icecream/wine fest last night. Just been to pilates and have been told to move up to the next level which was exciting!

Going to have lunch in a bit with DH then perhaps do some bits around the house. Later, will watch the Heineken cup and then have a few drinks with a friend.

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/05/2011 13:45

OM - you are only in week 2 are you not? And after having lost 12lbs in week one I think, tbh, you are a little bit over-hopeful to lose a lot more now!!!

It's very common when low carbing to a) lose a lot in the first couple of weeks b) not lose much/anything in weeks 3/4 and/or 5.

Just carry on doing what you're doing and you will start to lose again.

Have you read any of the low carbing books? If you haven't then you really must do that, so you can understand how important eating fat is for this WOE to work. It doesn't feel right because we have all been told over the last 30 years or so that fat is bad.

olismum23 · 07/05/2011 17:29

I know your right ladies i am just having an off day :) I do eat fat on my meat and it will take me a little while to get it into my head that its ok lol. I have new atkins new you and i understand it just finding it difficult to get the ratio right as i think i may be eating too much protein.

ConstanceFelicity · 07/05/2011 20:27

Nervous energy today- Petrified of storms and have been fidgety all day. No storm yet but am nervous for the night. On the positive side, my twitchiness meant I cleaned the fridge and felt too ill to eat too much...

Ham salad
Ham and fruit
Turkey chinese thing with cauli rice
2 coffees
Off to bed now, hoping I'll sleep through any rumbles of thunder (or hunger!)

5lb?! Well done.

I'm also giving up on the low carbing front, and trying a bit of serious low calorie stuff. I need to 'shock' myself into dieting; I was getting too complacent low carbing and forgetting that my aim is to lose weight.

I have 2 weeks before DH and I go away for the weekend, so need to shift a bit of lard!

ConstanceFelicity · 08/05/2011 07:27

5lb is great! Congrats! I have become convinced that diets will have different effect on different people, so whilst I feel brill on low-carb, low-fat, my best friend feels awful with no energy on it. So I applaud you sal on trying to find something will make you feel better. My previous tendency has been to think "ugh I feel crap on this" and go back to eating crap, so to switch from one eating style to another healthy one gets maximum respect from me. :)

ConstanceFelicity · 08/05/2011 09:46

Yay! Another half pound off this morning! :)

olismum23 · 08/05/2011 11:36
