hello just marking my place be back later not seen you all for ages

rainbowinthesky · 29/05/2011 10:11

Going to start locarbing today....
What do I need to know? What should I buy? I have the Dukan book - should i follow that?

Is there a good website with this on?

rainbowinthesky · 29/05/2011 16:28

Is full fat greek yoghurt, toasted flaked almonds and blueberries okay? Can it be a snack whenever I want or is it a meal ie breakfast or is it a nono?

roguepixie · 29/05/2011 23:02

Hi custy - good to see you again. How's it going? (It's Timba in disguise, btw)

Hi rainbow - welcome welcome. I would google low carbing and have a look at some of the websites that come up. Also, custardo herself has a blog (the link is somewhere on this thread, or custy might be back a bit later to link you to it).

With regard to following a plan - I think most of us on here follow one plan or another. You will find Dukanists amongst others. I myself follow a paleo plan which suits me as a am intolerant of wheat and dairy. Our connection is that we all reduce/omit the carbs regardless of what plan we follow.

Your yogurt/blueberries/almonds combo sounds lovely. If it was me (if I had dairy) I would have it for breakfast. However, I would also use it for a snack if pushed. I personally would watch the fat content in greek yogurt - it is fine when you are having it at one meal but you can overdose on it and the fat content is high. I know we are less concerned with fat here but you do need to be aware.

Hope this help. Enjoy your low carbing. And welcome to the best thread here. Grin

Having an off day today Sad. Sticking to low carbs but feels hungry all the time. Want chocolate and ice cream and biscuits and cake and trifle and everything...aaargrrggggghhhhhh

That feels better. Grin Will have chicken salad tonight Smile

Sarraburd · 31/05/2011 21:27

Welcome Rainbow and welcome back Custy!

Rainbow if doing Dukan it's lowfat too so that would be fine if lowfat total (though just for the days on dukan where you're allowed protein plus other stuff).

There are lots of lc options so bound to be one to suit. Be aware that some eg dukan, Atkins are designed to put you into ketosis (so your body's burning fat not sugar for energy) - it takes two days to go into ketosis and you have to maintain v low carb (I think c20 grams a day??) so you have to have quite alot of willpower for it to work properly! But you lose lots quickly if you can do it. Others which allow more carbs are slower (average pound or so a week off) but allow for blips, but with those you have to watchthe fat more carefully as rogue was saying.

Just had a really delicious tricolor salad for supper.

Sarraburd · 31/05/2011 21:30

Ps though don't take my word for it on dukan as I'm not following it, just looked at it briefly - not sure if dukan lets you have fruit in induction; it might be more a later phase/ maintenance breakfast

Goodness it's been quiet on here...lots of busy halfterms...

Have managed to lose half a pound despite not being amazingly strict over halfterm, I guess because of all the running around.

Today:

  • ham and eggs
  • parma ham, melon, asparagus, and feta filo wrap thing, bit of carb there but v thin filo... (leftovers from picnic last night) and a bit of cold roast chicken left over from Sunday lunch
  • chorizo kale and quinoa stew made for me by a friend who seems to be rather obsessed by this stew as it's the second time this month she's given me some...v good though so not complaining!
Poodlehorse · 14/06/2011 19:16

well I am back, think I lost a month without posting but seemed to be too busy to get on here but doing what I don't know. Hasn't been the best of times lowcarbing either as we had a wedding and DH was leaving for offshore etc etc, last meals, days out. I might have got away with one of them but not all LOL. So back on plan this week. I feel like I have been doing okay but I never know really. Will find out on Thursday if I have lost anything. Need to get exercising again too, but haven't had a minute this week yet while DS at school and can't exactly leave him on his own to go for run so nothing been done. I am not brave enough to shred at the moment as have had a bad back too, which definitely didn't help the eating. But I did discover celeriac today - can't get it locally so grabbed some while in a big supermarket further afield. It is lovely boiled and mashed with a bit of cream. I thought it would have a strong taste but it really didn't. I will pick one up when I can but it won't be often round here sadly. I hate living in the sticks. I have also been eating a lot of sugarfree jellies with a bit of cream. Off to make another batch in a minute as I think that is me through the last lot. Will try and post a bit more but I do struggle to keep up sometimes. xx

Sarraburd · 14/06/2011 22:20

Hey welcome back Poodle! Celeriac mash is great
(works well in shep/fish pie) and celeriac chips also brilliant mmm must try and get hold of some.

Just had paella-ish stew with seafood, chicken legs, artichoke, red peppers, tomato, lots of garlic, saffron stock, cannelini beans. Lose the beams if you're stricter than me but vvv good.

Poodlehorse · 17/06/2011 10:55

Hello all, still on the jellies whenever I feel munchy but lost 3 lb this week. So really being strict again has certainly worked. It has given me just the boost I needed not to head to the Danish pastries Wink. I am starting to find I am often not hungry enough for a proper meal at dinner and end up snacking on antipasti etc instead. Got some chicken out for tonight though so might make the chicken pizza thingy. I have yet to try that but it sounds so nice. And thinking about an asparagus omelette for lunch as a friend put the idea in my head days ago and I can't stop thinking about it.

Sarraburd · 20/06/2011 22:43

Highly recommend chicken pizza! Think was BWIW recipe if you need to search?

Fallen off wagon this weekend with attempting to camp in vile weather. Back on track tonight with delicious Mediterranean fish soup

brighthair · 23/06/2011 21:36

I am on IPD diet, thought I would join in here Grin have lost 2 stone so far but now struggling with more bad days than good Blush weight is stable, not gaining but I have 2 stone to go to get my bmi to 25. It's currently 28 - was 32 at start. Todays food breakfast cup of tea lactofree milk and protein shake. Lunch/tea ( on night shift) cauliflower cheese soup, handful nuts

Mummalish · 27/06/2011 07:07

Hello everyone. Not sure if any of you remember me. Used to be a regular on LC thread, have disappeared, along with all willpower. Haven't read through all messages yet, must do so when I have a minute. Have been battling to stick to low carb even though I have had great success with it.

Willpower really is my problem. But anyhow, I am ready to give it another go, so here I am!!!

Tortington · 28/06/2011 14:21

howdy haven;t been here for ages, put on half a stone not smoking - in 10 days - back on wagon yesterday need support!!

Sarraburd · 28/06/2011 14:31

Hello all! Likewise been off falling off wagon - summer carefree mood - need this thread to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Custy - you're so right with your "cake" analogy - had some fresh pasta and ciabatta at weekend, not having had either in months, and it really did taste like cake - much too stodgy, heavy and sweet.

Tortington · 28/06/2011 21:29

so am jonesing for the sugar - have had chicken herb lc wrap x2 for lunch and then at 4 whilst still at work, had the rest of last nights left over tea which i took with me - chicken peppers courgette in tomato.

had an evening meeting someone left a prepackaged salad which i had ordered for them, so i ate that whilst driving home - it had sweetcorn in - but i was STARVING and the corn tasted so damn good

got home, had lc breadsticks and a fulltube primula and a lc chocolate bar

fucking sugar

FreeButtonBee · 29/06/2011 13:31

Hi all, I have well and truly de-wagoned over the past few months. Just back from hols and trying to get back with the programme. I have definitely put some weight on but I am going to hold off weighing myself until Friday in order to prevent the shock from making me keel over entirely. Also massive PMT this week so the resultant increase in my rage levels would not be good for the population of London in general.

Monday and Tuesday were not great; today I had a big chicken and indian 'slaw' salad with a mango chutney dressing. Yum. Didn't manage breakfast but I have a plain yoghurt for mid-afternoon and I have no clue what dinner will be.

Tortington · 29/06/2011 17:33
