My DH has invented the best celeriac recipe ever: celeriac cream bake. had non-low carb visitors over on Friday and they loved it too.

Just parboil some celeriac slices, then put the in the oven in a dish with plenty of double cream. and some chicken stock powder /crumbled stock cube. Salt, pepper and some paprika if you like. Bake for a while until it starts to brown. It was heavenly!

Hi to everyone. Well done to all the weight lost.

Back on the wagon after falling of it last weekend!! Sad

Still, onward and upward. Grin

ConstanceFelicity · 10/04/2011 19:01

Felt hungry all day today, and although I haven't been too bad, I have eaten too much. AF on its way and I am feeling fat. :(

3 coffees
ham and seed salad
melon pieces
Roast chicken with mashed carrots, broccoli, peas and a tiny bit of sausage stuffing.

I was just picking the chicken for the packed lunches tomorrow, and I ate a load more chicken then, including the skin off one side of the breast. I know it's not a mars bar but I feel guilty, I really don't want to lose control again.

FreeButtonBee · 10/04/2011 23:14

CF, it doesn't look like you ate that much overall. So I wouldn't be too concerned about the extra chicken. It's not like you were eating a pint of double cream!

I had a bad day. Tom and mozz salad for breakfast (good), two pints beer (bad), roast chicken with pancetta and cabbage (good), chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream (vvvv bad!)

Wasn't hungry this evening so had a piece of cheese and a tiny piece of chorizo. Need to get some veg into me tomorrow!

ConstanceFelicity · 11/04/2011 08:45

I know Free, I'm just on a bit of a downer at the mo. Have just heard DH's job might be under threat, which would mean insecurity, a move, and I love my home and the local school... :(

10 2.75 this morning. Happy with that as a Monday weight. Back on the wagon today, Am hosting book club tonight but have made sure there is lots of non-carby things to eat. Everyone else can have the crisps and garlic bread I will stick to HM mini lamb meatballs and satay chicken. Yum.

ConstanceFelicity · 11/04/2011 11:02

Thanks sal. AF and stress making me teary today. Shall buck up. And will not use this situation as an excuse for Mars bars... Wink

Sound like the weekend went well, Sal!

Keep going CF, that doesn't sound like too much food! I think the odd little snack is good, especially something protein-y.

A fairly quiet one here, apart from a Sunday evening BBQ with our old neighbours (I wasn't too naughty actually, stuck to meat and salad, and got loads of remarks about my new super-slim legs Grin).

Today's meals:

Breakfast - berries, greek yogurt & nuts
Lunch - chicory leaves dipped into smoked mackerel pate
Tea - will be chicken thighs, stuffed with roule cheese, wrapped in parma ham, with cabbage. We eat this one a lot, but it is a family fave.

Anyway, off to do a bit of gardening while the weather lasts.....might need a little teeny square of brie to give me a boost first.....

ConstanceFelicity · 11/04/2011 15:44

I just went for a walk up the mountain with the toddler on my back and I was charged by a horse... Shock

I think I lost about five pounds just with the sprinting for the gate!

FreeButtonBee · 11/04/2011 15:47

CF - Shock that'll teach you to walk up a mountain Grin

ConstanceFelicity · 11/04/2011 15:49

Well, quite! I walk up there every day, weather permitting, and they only ever have sheep in that field... So I climbed over the gate, up the field, and just over the brow of the hill was a massive mare with a foal. No wonder she went nuts.

DS on my back thought it was hilarious and laughed his head off as I sprinted and jumped over the gate... :o

ConstanceFelicity · 11/04/2011 19:22

A cup of tea
A salad with veggie sausages (MOrrisons own brand- Yuck!)
A banana
Leftover roast from yesterday with no potatoes.

Feel like I could eat a whole loaf of bread with peanut butter today. Auntie Flo, begone!

The scales have finally started going down again after a 2 weeks stall. 2 more pounds down so I'm very pleased. I have loads to lose so don't need any stalling!!

Bohica · 11/04/2011 21:22

Well i haven't lasted a whole week because I started feeling very unwell & had to eat some carbs with my meals.
I'm 5ft 5" & 9st which is my heaviest weight but I am still running around after 3 small children & I need my energy!!

DH has now done a week & has lost 6lb Smile

Our hob is off limits at the minute due to a kitchen refit so I did cauli rice in the oven.
Whizzed up the cauli & put it in a baking dish with a few knobs of butter, a dash of water & grated cheese - it was very nice & we had it with pir pri turkey breast & salad (I also had a jacket)

Sarraburd · 12/04/2011 07:51

Boh - you'll still lose weight if you introduce some carbs (I find I need a few too esp if I've been exercising, or hungover)

There are basically two types of lc diet - the trad Atkins type, where you eat no carbs and the aim is to get your body into ketosis, burning fat rather than glucose for energy.

Or the kind I did last summer (Holford) where you cut down heavily on carbs (and minimal white/beige carbs) and are basically using the principal that protein fills you up for longer to eat less overall without feeling hungry.

Cf sorry to hear about your stress - I wouldn't give yourself too hard a time for the moment.

Febes - likewise stalling but not putting any on and flatter stomach; think I need to up the exercise (well done on that sal!) but kids now off and we're going away on friday so I'm going to worry about that once back...

Sarraburd · 12/04/2011 07:57

Ps Boh - you lose more quicker on ketosis; the second type is a pound or two per week only, but it stays off!

TheGoddessBlossom · 12/04/2011 08:20

Hi all.

Need some guidance I think.

Have done 1 week. Minimal carbs. Started at 9.6, went to 9.2, now, 1 week on, 9.5! Hmm

Yesterday had:

eggs and bacon for brekkie

salad, with coleslaw, cheese, gherkins

Pepperami, almonds, macadamia nuts for snacks

meatballs in red sauce with broccolli for tea, with greek yohurt and berries with a handful of all bran for afters

also did a 20 minute run, followed by a 25 minute uphill walk at the gym

I have not eaten for a week:

any rice, potatoes, fruit other than berries, bread of any kind, cakes, biscuits, chocolate, sugar in general

I have had a few glasses of red, probably 4 in total all week, and a couple of gin and slims on Friday night.

I thought the weight would go alot quicker - I seem to be stabilising on exactly the same range of 4 pounds on/off as I do on a very high carb/lo fat diet.

Is this normal? It is difficult to maintain as DH does cooking and is not lo carbing and I am also having to spend alot more it seems on the food.

Advice appreciated.

Bloss

TheGoddessBlossom · 12/04/2011 08:34

I'm also not drinking coffee and drinking tea instead and loads of water.

ConstanceFelicity · 12/04/2011 09:22

Did you weigh yourself the same time of day both times? My weight varies by as much as half a stone depending on when I weigh!

I am making muffins to sell for charity today. If I don't eat one/lick the bowl, it will be a miracle. The mars bar muffins are in now!

FreeButtonBee · 12/04/2011 09:44

I think I need a box for yesterday. Let's not go there!

10 3.75 this morning. Which is still in the low end of my weight range. But up 2lb since Sunday.

Bloss - I find that I need to weigh every day, first thing in the morning after a wee and look at the patterns (I have a spreadsheet!). So I find that I go up and down by 3 or 4lb or so, but the range keeps getting progressively lower. I also work out my average weight each week too. That too is getting lower though there is the odd stall week or slight fluctuation upwards now and then. I think it's just not a particularly linear thing and actually by keeping a record I am able to be a bit more objective about it and not despair quite so much if there is a blip. Why not give it a try for 2 or 3 weeks and see if it helps?

FreeButtonBee · 12/04/2011 09:46

Sorry, looking at your diet, I think it looks good but will definitely be a low carb not no carb approach. So 1lb a week is about right. Which is how much you've lost. But hopefully you will continue to lose 1lb a week over the next few weeks. And keep it off! Which is the most important bit.
