Loopyla - Millies cookies (sucks air between teeth and shakes head sadly); Bitesize ones are 3pp, Classic cookies are 5 and Super Gourmet cookies are between 11-13 depending upon flavour

LoopyLa · 18/03/2011 13:41

hmc thank you, you're a star!

Some bastard generous person has also brought in huge cookies they've baked for Red Nose day. They could've brought in BNS soup instead??? Grin

Blondes you're not comfort eating are you????

Hi guys have been laid low by too much happenin' not enough surfin'. Anywas i see we have some newbies including mrs cheeky and stranded so thought I would post my propoints survival guide again as may be helpful. I have reached where I wanted to be....the scales said 9st 9.5 today HOOORAAAH so I have lost about 8.5 lb since 5th jan. That's less than a pound a week but I'm happy with that as am below ww goal (so much more difficult to shift it - no weekly points for me) and at mental goal all ready to gain 6 lb next week when I am away skiing.

"6 lb in a week skiing?????" I hear you gasp Shock? Well here's a quick rundown of my usual ski holiday diet:

Cooked breakfast and a pain au chocolate at 8 am
Vin chaud at 11 am
Penguin or similar at 12 (choccy biccy not funny bird obv)
Lunch - 2 croissants filled with brie and ham nicked from breakfast
Vin chaud at 3
More chocolate at 4 (well a girls got to keep her strength up)
Regular slurps sloe gin esp if cold and snowy
Hit a bar about 4.30, drink kir or shots
Pre- dinner aperitif at 7.30
4 course dinner followed by chocs
4 or 5 glasses wine at least........

Bloody fantastic eh? Grin ! Will try and cut down on the alcohol intake for the first time ever I think. Am always knackered by the end of the week and I think it's my liver protesting....

Even better - it's a girls trip so no dc's or dh to look after - soory to make you all Envy but you will be less Envy when I post my mahoosive weight gain on Monday 28th March - will keep you posted!

Weightwatchers Propoints Survival Guide:

  1. To keep points low, try not to mix protein with white carbs. So if you have pasta, have it with a veggy sauce, same with risottos- veg only and if having a curry try to stick to vegetable curries with rice.

  2. If you want a meat sauce with rice (eg casseroles, curries etc) use a rice substitute. Use a food processor to turn courgette or cauliflower into tiny rice-sized chips and blast for 30-60 seconds in the microwave to heat (not cook) and it will have a rice-like texture. Can be mixed with a small quantity of rice or use completely instead of rice. Courgette grates well too.

  3. Butternut squash is your best friend. Mash it, stuff it, risotto it, roast it, soup it, turn it into chips ? it has zero points.

  4. Wine is your enemy...............dont know why but I think it should have double the points ww have allocated it as it has a totally sabotaging effect

  5. Philly cheese light is you next best friend! Sweet chilli flavour heated and mixed with a bit of skimmed milk makes a delicious sauce for chicken, fish or pasta. Good on ryvita (esp sweet onion ryvita), jacket potatoes etc etc. Also stir a tablespoon into mushrooms fried in frylight for creamy mushrooms on ww toast for a bargain 2 point meal.

  6. Quorn mince is not as disgusting as it sounds. If you cant bear the thought, use a pack of quorn mince and a pack of turkey mince, makes delicious chilli or spag bol sauce (really no-one will notice)and is fine in lasagne as meets requirements for point 1.

  7. Venison sausages are the lowest points sausages and tesco ones are the best ? 2 sausages 4 points and they are very filling. Venison steak is only 3 points for a pre-packed quite small steak but it is very rich and filling. Sorry bambi.

  8. Turkey bacon is extremely low -1 point for 2 rashers so if you use ww bread you can have a huge bacon butty with 4 rashers for only 4 points

  9. WW foods ? rich toffee bars are the best and the fruity fromage frais is good too. All the yogs and from frais are 1 point a pot. Malted ww bread is nice and never seems to turn mouldy!

  10. But the best ww food is the plain crème fraiche, it is miles lower fat etc than any of the other ?light? or ?reduced fat? crème fraiches and is good in cooking, for casseroles curries etc to make them creamy but also good on fruit/desserts

  11. Best chocolate hit is ww chocolate dessert, mixed with mashed up sugar free raspberry jelly ? makes a huge bowl of black foresty pudding for only 2 points

  12. Options hot chocolates ? most have only 1 point

  13. Eggs are 2 points each but 3 for 5 points! So omelettes or any egg dish is low points

  14. Freeze a muller lite yogurt for low points ice-cream

  15. John West tuna light lunches are delicious mixed with ½ a chopped cucumber for a quick lunch and are only 5 or 6 points depending on variety

  16. You really do have to count every single point that passes your lips....unless you do what I do ? I do not give myself any points for exercise then I don?t bother to count milk in tea/coffee , ketchup etc

  17. Breakfast is important ? a hard boiled egg (wrapped in foil if you don?t want a whiff of egg following you around) and a banana is an easy ? packed? breakfast

  18. Watch your fruit consumption ? although it is zero rated if you eat too much you will not lose weight. Obvious really as quite high sugar and calories. For example just 10-12 grapes is a portion of fruit.

  19. If you use all 49 weekly points every week you WILL still lose weight but probably more slowly....but you will still lose. Probably only ½ to 1 pound a week (after the initial week or two of quicker loss) rather than 2 lb a week. However ½ lb a week is still about 26 lb in a year and is probably a more sustainable way of living!

  20. Finally do not be despondent if you stay the same one week (or even worse put on ½ lb) for some reason this occasionally happens but then the next week you will lose 2 weeks worth in one hit! Loads of us have had this happen and it always catches up the following week.....weird

Feel free to add any more tips!!

hmc · 18/03/2011 14:27

Ha ha froot - sure enough, that Ski diet is a definite gainer (sounds fab though [wistful])

Loopyla - I am loving your entirely justifiable and reasonable expectation that your thoughtless collegue didn't think to bring in BNS soup! How selfish is that!Grin

froot · 18/03/2011 14:44

For noway my ds was the toddle from hell but now he is the most laidback compliant teenager ever (though I wish he was a bit less laidback about revising for his GCSE's.....)

I remember someone telling me to give him forced choices rather than statements, so instead of saying 'it's lunchtime' I would say 'In 5 minutes its' lunchtime and you get to choose whether you'd like to go to the loo before lunch or after lunch?' or when it's time to get dressed, say 'In 5 minutes you're going to get dressed and you choose, blue trousers or black trousers' so that they feel that they are in control not you. That way you are actually in control but they feel as though they are, and you really can do it with pretty much everything. Also the act of giving them a choice makes them stop and think rather than throwing a strop.

I used to make stickers from address labels and give them out for good behaviour, and I also swore by the wonders of a star chart. HTH

bigTillyMint · 18/03/2011 14:52

froot I gained 2lbs when we went skiing.

My top tips are:
take a pack of those rich toffee bars to eat instead of Penguins, etc.
have the naturel instead of hot choc / vin chaud
choose salad with dressing on the side instead of pizza
drink water instead of wine

Of course, it worked for meWink

BTW, where are you going? Have they had snow recently?

froot · 18/03/2011 15:15

Whats naturel tilly ? Going to Meribel and they have had fresh snow over past few days but it will be slush at the bottom. Should be fine higher up. Meant to buy some rich toffee bars but forgot...don't usually buy lunch usually picnic but will have salad if do splash out! I know I should drink water instead of wine...perhaps i will alternate one glass water, one glass Wine

Btw, delicious pud just now: heat one ww rich chocolate dessert in microwave and pour over a banana - it is the most delicious hot choc sauce !! Would be yummy over anyhtng actually, ice cream, strawberries, kinda like a ww fondue!

froot · 18/03/2011 15:16

And only 2 lb tilly ? That's not a gain that's a miracle!! Smile

Piffle · 18/03/2011 16:16

WI Today and my first weeks WW loss is 3.3lbs
I ate all my weeklies ( well drank them more like) and are all activity points...
Am walking 2-3 hrs every day which I think makes a difference...

I'm going to add my food to my fitday iPhone app to get a calorie comparison.
I am quite pleased, I think I might log less activity next week

Piffle · 18/03/2011 16:31

Ahh today checked
1700 cals eaten/drunk daily
300 exercise cals
So 1400
Gosh. Not much!!!

JoJoBaldwin · 18/03/2011 16:55

Fab loss Piffle

Have a great holiday froot, sounds wonderful!

Something ridiculous just happened. Got this far today having spent only 9 points. Felt a bit peckish so saw I had some wraps in freezer. Before I knew it had 3 wrps spread with butter! Easily 20 points.

My dailies gone just like that and not even had dinner!

strandednomore · 18/03/2011 17:12

This is a great thread - I am getting sucked in despite only coming on here for advice about propoints! Thanks for that excellent survival guide froot. I have some tips of my own (as an old WW hand - been doing it on and off for about 14 years but only put on half a stone in the last two years so think I'm finally getting there!) but not time to post right now. Will come back to you!

wizzler · 18/03/2011 17:16

Hi everyone and welcome to newbies.

Am out tonight on the phones for Comic Relief until midnight, ( dreading all the biccies and cakes that will inevitably be there, am taking a banana and a sign saying "do not feed".

Anyway, my leader this week said that when Weight loss tailed off, we should review an old tracker in a week we lost a lot, and eat what we ate that week. Made sense so I thought I would share !

Catch up tomorrow ..

HMC do you think those soups will freeze ? The thai chicken sounds grnd

wizzler · 18/03/2011 17:16

Grand, obviously Blush

NoWayNoHow · 18/03/2011 17:37

froot thanks for the toddler advice - I do give him choices on some things, but it's a really good idea to roll it out to everything. I do think the biggest issue is that he's incredibly independent (which I know ill stand him in good stead when he's older) so I totally buy into giving him as much "control" as possible.

The good news is that his behaviour has improved quite a lot over the last week - long may it continue!

Also, slightly Envy about the skiing holiday sans DC. Sigh.

Congrats, piffle that's a great loss! Well done!

WW sea bass with spinach and sauted potatoes for tea tonight. only 7PP, will report back on whether it's good or not... DH obsessed with eating fish on a Friday, just like school! Oh, btw, tried th online recipe for chicken sag that other night - piece of piss to make, and was actually like eating in a curry house! Recipe itself is only 3PP, but I added 60g (dried weight) of basmati rice for 6PP, and we were stuffed afterwards. I highly recommend!!

ClaireDeLoon · 18/03/2011 17:51

Well done Piffle that's a great loss!

NoWay the chicken curry sounds good - is it on WW site?

Have had the shittiest day at my hospital appointment which involved bursting into tears when trying to get my results appointment for recurrent miscarriage tests brought forward and bring ushered into a side room to recover :( so I got myself an apple tart at Peyton & Byrne on way home and even that was a disappointment, far too sweet :( waste of points

bigTillyMint · 18/03/2011 17:59

froot it was 2lbs in 5 days!
naturel means no milk - their English tea is not good with milk! But you can also ask for tisanes which are fruit teas. Lots less pps than a hot choc and fine with a rich toffee bar - is it too late to get any?

We picnic too - what about taking/buying fruit and do packet soup in a flask - I did take some of that Swiss bouillon which is supposed to be 0pps.

It was a bit slushy in the afternoon on the really sunny days when we went, but it was fine - you will have a great time!

NoWayNoHow · 18/03/2011 18:17

claire it is on the WW, yes - just search for "Chicken Sag" in recipes.

So sorry to hear about your day, too Sad You poor thing. Your apple tart was totally justified, just sorry it wasn't good!

LoopyLa · 18/03/2011 18:25

CDL Hope you feel better soon & get the answers you need, don't worry about the apple tart, draw a line under it & forget it. Hope you're ok x

Noway gosh that curry does sound good, I'm planning to make one myself this week-end & was interested which rice would be lowest PP?

And froot am loving your choccy desert trick, I will definitely use that!

I'm weighing tomorrow so fingers crossed Hmm :)

Happy Friday all x

sparkle101 · 18/03/2011 18:26

Forgive me fellow weight watchers for I have sinned.

So about a week and a half ago I came on asking for some motivation and despite blondes finding it quite quickly (blondes I think I may love you!) I lost it again (very careless) and proceeded to sabotage the whole week - eating anything and everything I oould find! So I hid from weight watchers meeting on Monday so don't know the damage! I can however successfully say I am back on it and have been for the last 4 days (sounds so short a time but I am amazed). Sometimes you need a blowout but I think 10 days takes the piss!

We shall see the damage on Monday.

Thank you ladies for your motivation and support, I just have to be a bit stronger and listen to you.

Thanks again!

LoopyLa · 18/03/2011 18:32

Oh and hmc I had 1 mini Millie cookie, felt virtuous, polished halo....then 1 hour later helped myself to a charity chocolate cookie & it must have been about 10 bloody points!!! Blush Good job I have some activity points!!!

NoWayNoHow · 18/03/2011 18:37

loopy AFAIK all rice is the same points (6PP for 60g dried). I always find basmati the nicest as I'm not the world's biggest rice fan and this one just seems to have more flavour!

sparkle your honesty in coming clean has been recognised by the WW court, and this juror forgives you!

In all seriousness, sometime we just need to relinquish a little control, and as long as we recognise that this is what we're doing, and have a plan for getting back on top of things, then all will be fine!

JoJoBaldwin · 18/03/2011 18:54

sparkle that's amateurish, a 10 day blow-out Wink some of us have a good 10 year under our belts!

Just figured out i am due on which might explain my earlier carb-binge. Hubby is on his way home with booze and I have another flippin children's party tomorrow. Just when I am all TOTM and have no will-power.

Have a feeling I might be starting afresh on sunday morning - at least that will give me 5 days till WI. Not going to go mad though, just not going to stress about being carb-crazy the next day or so!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/03/2011 19:03

wow, what a lot of replies since this mornin

'cracks fingers and types'

thanks ladies for trying to cheer me up :)

noway it IS false advertising :( on old ww i would lose weight every week, a lb as long as was within my points and that included drinking wine and having takeaways etc,new ww pp i will eat most/all of my 49 (which ww say you can) and i DONT lose weight!!

i do go to the gym 2/3 times aweek and NEVER count/usemy pp as never did on old ww,plus think if ive miscounted during thr week, these will cover it iyswim

wizzler thanks, mkes me feel better im not the only one

claire i dont actually go to ww meetings and do it home alone, but my friend is a ww leader and says that you should be able to eat all 49 and least lose a lb, but many of her girls say they cant (like me)

so sorry to hear about your mc's :( hope they find our reasons soon for you

you might need a stitch to hold yourself in

db come back and moan, we all have a moan (like me today lol)

hmc i Envy you, i have 5 lbs to lose to get back to my original weight, but really think i will try and lose 7 lbs more after that iyswim

what does your leader say to those who like me say they cant eat 49?

stranded i feel old system works better for me

loopy you ate a biscuit that could have been 13pp Shock

'blondes faints'
and no i wasnt comfort eating, just the dad didnt buy me a low fat sarnie :( so already will dip into my weekies again 'sighs'

tilly its depressing isnt it :(

cheeky have some smarties, a tube is 5pp, so eat a few then scoff no more

froot have a fab ski holiday and as you know i love your tips, apart from 19

thats bollocks Grin

piffle well done on loss and Envy you ate/drank all 49 Angry

sparkle 'shakes her firmly' now i have found your mojo,so bloody well hold on to itand hope wi isnt that bad {hugs}

'collapses in a heap knackered'
