STEPPING IN FOR NORMA

Welcome one and all to our 5th thread

If you're just starting out or you've been following WW for a while and you're looking for support you've come to the right place! :)

There are lots of regulars who are well on their weigh (get it! ) Grin and others who have just joined us - we're a mixed bag, all shapes and sizes and all with different goals to achieve but we're all striving for the same thing. We're all here to will one another on with advice, support and lots of cheering!

Androbbob is our resident stat checker and keeps us motivated by totting up the total weight loss each week.

We're quite fast moving at times so just dive in - pour yourself a Wine or Brew and make yourself at home :)

Ooh I need to book some swimming lessons for my son, too. He's nearly four so should definitely be learning I think. Am worried about the cost as everything is just SO expensive nowadays (I realise I am sounding like a grumpy old woman).

Well done everyone on losses and hooray for a carrier bag of weightloss!

I am struggling a bit. STS this week despite shredding, but I'm not surprised really because I'm finding it so hard to stick to my daily points. I'm just so hungry all the time - I was never hungry on the old points. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong! Ah well, another week....

debs39 · 04/04/2011 09:38

ps nwnh I would just keep on taking him as much as possible and if he uses armbands, get rid of them and use a woggle as support instead...and try and find a pool where he is out of his depth too...i did it by trial and error with small when he was 2 and by 2yrs 9mths he had it cracked...my friend is swimming instructor and she said to put woggle under their chin to keep head up then they learn to try and keep head out of water...then it's a case of, take woggle away, let go and see them flap.........evil but it worked!!! the strokes etc side of it he can get when he does proper lessopns but most kids starting at 4 will be total nonswimmers who are learning water confidence rather than actual swimming pps why not just fib and say he is 4 tee hee

debs39 · 04/04/2011 09:47

mrskbpw would you not try and do old p's again if it worked for you and still have all old info and points calculator etc?? Sometimes, just because WW prescribe something, doesn't mean it'll work for you. Look at the dailies / weeklies / exercise points dilemmas we have been having ie eat them, don't eat them, stay under dailies etc etc... For some people Slimming World works, for others Atkins and for others none ha ha cos we drink wine and eat chocolate and forget to track it!!!! When I was WW leader in the olden days, often it just didn't work for some people at all...they got frustrated, I got frustrated and WW area leader said " just get them to buy more fruities!!" ha ha....sales, sales, sales and no sympathy eh!!!! Good luck this week... :)

NoWayNoHow · 04/04/2011 09:49

mrs sorry you sts, but if you've been shredding loads, it would definitely be worth taking your measurements - a lb of muscle takes is a third of the volume of a lb of fat, so you may well have lost cm's even if you've not lost mass.

debs DH has a manic couple of weeks at work, so I'm going to be cooking for myself a LOT this week! We can do it in tandem, if you like! Going to do my "made up" meal of butternut, chorizo, spinach and peppadews for dins tonight - going to use 80g chorizo this time though for a value of 6pp just cos i can , and just cos I love the stuff!

DS already goes in the pool with no armbands/floatation devices, so he's getting used to how the water affects his balance, buoyancy, etc, but neither of the learner pools near us have enough depth - he's 98cm tall so even the deeper one (at 1m) is shallow enough for him to get by when on tippy toes! He refuses to go into the bigger pool too, as he says it's too cold! (don't blame him, it really is!). Still going to get him one of those woggles though (that's the worm-like thing, isn't it?)

NoWayNoHow · 04/04/2011 09:50

also, mrs can you break down your week? i.e. How many weeklies did you eat, and how many activity points did you earn?

loubloutwinmum · 04/04/2011 10:45

Morning, did a speed read and you all made me laugh with your battles over chocolates and meals out and made me feel so much better for experiencing exactly the same thing.

Ate so much this weekend - a hugely fattening 3 course meal, including a fantastic pudding which was just so naughty but so good. And, champagne and wine and chocolate...

I was really good all week but totally went for it Sat eve and yesterday! I did have some level of restraint and had smaller portions. But used ALL my weeklies and only had 6 exercise points left! So was very pleased this morning when I had WI and have lost another 1 lb!!! So only have another 1lb to go to reach my goal - however, would like to lose another 1/2 stone really to be totally happy.

I bought some really nice new trousers last week - from Kookai - very nice and very slimming. I also got a lovely top in M&S and it was a size 12 so very happy! I am hoping I can start to build up my wardrobe again now I have lost this weight as determined to keep it off. Just wish I had the budget to really go and spend but just buying a few bits at a time really.

Anyway, loads to do today - work very busy and Zumba this evening. Good luck for anyone who is weighing in today, you ladies are amazing and even though I don't get to post that much, reading this thread gives me so much support and motivation.

NoWayNoHow · 04/04/2011 11:00

Congrats on the loss, loublou especially after a scummy food weekend!

CLB1 · 04/04/2011 12:46

Morning all, or afternoon, busy morning.
So WI yesterday after a night of pizza, garlic bread and lots of alcohol (every last bit was pointed thou)

2lbs loss woo hoo

Heyhu Well done on the loss, how?s the vino free 2nd week going?
Blondes great will power at saying no to pudding
Wizzler I love the bag of your old weight, great idea. I hope you enjoy the bunny, a treat isn?t so bad if you pp it
Wynken well done on loss and the huge milestone and that?s awful about DD why are kids so mean. I hope she?s okay
Piffle I like the idea of planning your meals, would defo make shopping cheaper but I?m to awkward for that, never want what I planned to have to wait for the day and see what I fancy
NoWay I?m sorry to hear about your sister, I hope things get sorted soon. Atleast your mum is behind you and hopefully your sis will come round soon. I haven?t spoken to my sister since DS was born (11 weeks ago)
Debs When you cook just for yourself, make more and freeze it so you have something in the freezer when you can?t be bothered
Loulou Well done on loss, all adds up. Start saving a small amount each month and then when there?s enough you can?t have a shopping spree, also gives you something to look forward too. Have fun at Zumba, always wanted to try it but no time at the moment
So yesterday was a WW disaster. Nacho?s starter, chicken and gammon with chips and salad and a garlic sauce and then a hot brownie with ice cream. On the plus side I would definitely recommend a harvesters pub, lovely food. There was a lady that sat behind us that was so so evil to the waiting staff. She sat down and the waitress came to take her order saying ?you ready to order chicken?, the lady said ?not by you let me see your manager? When the manager came she was so mean and patronizing to him all because she was called chicken, She even swore at him in front of her children. Then to my utter disgrace she turns round and says ?you wouldn?t treat me like this if I could walk, your discriminating because I?m in a wheel chair!!!!!!! I had to bite my tongue, I HATE people being rude to waiting staff, it boils my blood. She continued to make nasty comments the whole meal. I had to say something, I really did. So on my way out, I walked past her table and told her in front of the whole restaurant she should be disgusted with herself the way she has treat the staff. She just looked at me. Well it?s not as if she could speak to my manager.
I also got into trouble with my Nannan and my Mum yesterday for buying 2nd hand clothes for my DS, They were in good condition and I washed them before he wore them, I don?t see the issue, my family is all for hand me downs so what?s the difference?
Sorry for the huge post and rant needed to get it all off my chest. Good luck to everyone this week

hmc · 04/04/2011 13:06

"So on my way out, I walked past her table and told her in front of the whole restaurant she should be disgusted with herself the way she has treat the staff."

Well done CB - I'm glad you said something! Wish more people would when they witness behaviour like this

hmc · 04/04/2011 13:07

ooops sorry meant CLB

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2011 13:37

and well done for saying something :)

i ate the coop healthy prawn/noodle/salad for 6pp

NoWayNoHow · 04/04/2011 13:56

clb well done you on saying something to that nasty piece of work! And of course there's nothing bad about 2nd hand clothes - if they're in good condition and have had a wash, what's the problem? Confused. Congrats on your loss too, that's brilliant! But Sad that you haven't spoken to your sister for so long, hope that can be rectified.

blondes I don't mind having a 7pp breakfast when I know I'm having a 4pp/6pp (depending on my chorizo greediness) dinner. To me, they could easily be the other way round - 4pp/6pp brekkie and 7pp dinner. Still leaves me a fat load of pp for the day in between!
Sounds like you got shafted with your Co-op salad - when I have that there's normally at least 6 or 7 prawns! Speaking of Co-op salad, I tried their ham, pea and mint one today. 4pp!! Got a few pieces of thick cut gammon, about 3 new pot, and half an egg, all on a bed of leaves and cherry tomatoes. Not huge or massively filling, but for 4pp it leaves plenty of room for snacking later on. Very tasty too!

Things may be sorted with sis - got long email from her apologising for the way her email sounded initially, and for all subsequent "reactions", including some of the things she said about me. Didn't apologise for being upset at what I said to her - fair enough, I was angry and overly-harsh, for which I have now apologised too. Think things will hopefully now get back to normal! Do feel like a weight (metaphorical!) has been lifted.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2011 14:07

noway pea/am and mint - yuk - bet you like pea and ham soup 'shudders'

glad you and sis sorted things out

OP posts:
NoWayNoHow · 04/04/2011 14:39

blondes poor peas and mushrooms... What did they ever do to you?? Wink

CLB1 · 04/04/2011 14:40

Noway We and my sister I think I'm well past rectifying it. I know she's my sister but I can't forgive her for something I would forgive a friend for. prob is she still lives with my parents with her DS so it makes it very awkward to visit them, also my mum has taken her side so not too good. :(
But hay ho, its been a long time coming. She refused to be my bridesmaid as she wouldnt wear the dress I chose and I wouldnt let her chose what she wanted.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2011 15:20

i only really dislike 3 things raisins/peas and mushrooms

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2011 15:23

LittleFriendSusan · 04/04/2011 16:59

Afternoon all :)

Well done to blondes, IheartIona, Piffle, LoopyLa, HeyHo, loublou, CLB1 on your losses and an extra special well done to Wynken for hitting 50lb! Sorry to hear about your DDs problems at school and hope things have calmed down a little for her :(

JoJo well done for STS and hope you can pull off a loss this week :)

hmc funnily enough I dug out my copy of TBL workout last week, all fired up and ready to go... and it wouldn't play. Has a massive scratch I noticed, so think it'll have to go in the bin. I got it last year sometime, maybe even the previous year? Worked for me at the time, though did become a bit boring. As I was all set, I decided to put a Davina DVD on instead. OMG - I managed about 10 minutes and couldn't do any more! Made me realise just how out of shape I have become. But... I then did day 1 of C25K and managed it - yay! So the plan is to carry on with that, though am extremely sore still and that was 3 days ago! Going to do it with a friend tomorrow so will see how it goes...

NWNH - sorry to hear about your fall-out with your sister, but glad you've made up...

Maltesers Bunnies are indeed very yummy - I found one in the drawer the other night (had bought one each for the DC as a treat a few weeks back and forgot to give them to them!) so had to have a taste. Well worth 4PP in my opinion!

WI for me tonight - went out for chinese Wed, Pizza Hut Thurs, big meal & wine both Friday & yesterday (rhubarb crumble and custard Grin ) so will be happy if I pull off a STS (that seems to have become my weekly mantra!)

Good luck to anyone else WI today and will pop on later and update!

NoWayNoHow · 04/04/2011 17:00

CLB sorry to hear that, that's very sad...

NoWayNoHow · 04/04/2011 17:01

blondes, i'm sort of with you on raisins (although I'll eat them if they're well hidden in a granola bar or equivalent) - nothing that's supposed to be fruit should be that small yet that sweet. Weird.

NoWayNoHow · 04/04/2011 17:02

x-post littlefriend - good luck with WI, sounds like you've had a yummy week, so that'll be well worth a sts if you can manage it!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2011 17:28

god luck lfs with tonights wi

OP posts:
froot · 04/04/2011 19:34

wi for me tonight 2.5 gain since last ww wi (but 5 lb since last home wi)but am happy with that as it means shifted a pound since came back from hols 8 days despite no exercise no propointing.

DD and I have started the 30 day shred together tonight, back to level 1 (man is it easy when you are used to level 3!!) My tummy muscles became really defined (though not a six pack, just like maybe a 2 1/2 pack) after doing it 3 times a week for 10 weeks. So she is going to do it with me this time which is good - she doesn't fancy classes and I need to get her off sofa/facebook!!

So my new challenge is 5 lb off by end of May to get to my mental goal(no mean feat with Easter and birthday in between) and then I would like to have a bit more off to give me a 'cushion' for summer holiday (23rd July)...ideally another 5 lb. Hmmmmmm.

I bow down to the namecheckers I am such a crapshite - I whizz through the posts and then don't have time/brain to namecheck. Sorry and don't chuck me off the thread!

One namecheck though - blondes any idea if there are any pp in Durex cherry flavour lubricant??!! Thought you would be the most likely to know Wink I reckon the act of using it would cancel any pp out - even if it's sugar- loaded.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2011 20:24

froot i DONT know WHAT you are insinuating!!!! Shock Grin

now, why would i know that? Grin

i believe that a sugar free version is free Wink

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 04/04/2011 20:25

tbh i would count as 1 pp - it is flavouring - bit like nutella
