mrs you need Jillian in your life. The 30 Day Shred is a super tough exercise dvd and best of all it is a 20 min workout, say 30 mins all in with warm up and cool down. It works you really hard - sweating buckets, maximum intensity and I'm really seeing results after 5-6 weeks.

It has 3 levels, start at level 1 and do 10 days, level 2 ten days, level 3 ten days. The workout is 3 circuits each is 3 mins strength, 2 mins cardio and 1 min abs. You need the dvd, some handweights and a mat so loads cheaper than a gym membership.

I hate exercise, I don't like exercise dvd's (want to punch Davina etc) but I like the shred, I'm on level 3 day 7 today and have been shredding 5 times a week and I see the results.

Piffle · 23/03/2011 11:35

The shred kills me... Though I guess that's the point
But due to 4 yr old ds2 I cannot really get it done...
Walking with him outside I can do!
I'm having 4 very strict days, 2 ease up days and one day of whatever I fancy. Within reason
And tons of walking!
I am feeling the difference in clothes already which is motivating.

Anyone else WI day friday?

LittleFriendSusan · 23/03/2011 12:22

Benbon I am thinking of cycling to work once or twice a week, I did it for a very short time last summer and found it really uncomfortable. Also have to go up big hill almost straight away so ended up a red sweaty mess. Not ideal for a day at the office! But I'm thinking it can only get better with practice!

Abgirl well done on the silver 7!

Wizzler - well done for 1lb loss. Agree about the WW cookies - the sultana ones are lovely too. (and good to see another Northerner! Was feeling a bit outnumbered for a while there with all these Southern ladies Grin)

Immortal - Poundland have quite a good selection of WW snacks, I usually pop into ours once every few weeks and stock up!

Littlefish well done on losing again!

ClairedeLoon - well done you! How long have you been doing WW again?

Almost managed to stick to my 29PP yesterday - had 30 so not that far off I suppose! Had a cauliflower that needed using up and couldn't think what to do other than cauliflower cheese! So I did the cauli & macaroni cheese from JO's Ministry of Food, but with reduced fat cheese and less of it & WW creme fraiche. Was delicious but prob had bit too much and worked it at 15PP...

Belvita biccies and a banana for breakfast today as was up very late! Pitta, red pepper & chilli houmous, lots of salad & Rachel's low fat rhubarb yogurt for lunch (just had an apple to keep me going for the next half an hour or so). Then harrisa lamb & couscous for tea I think. I also have another cauliflower to use up & celeriac & beetroot (plus lots of other veg) - any suggestions what I can make tomorrow?

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2011 12:30

noway sorry to hear you are still not well :( and we will never been sick and tired of you :)

willa hope you find a cleaner soon, have you tried looking/advertising on netmums noticeboard, our local one always has cleaners on it looking for work

*mrsK8 the calcultor is prob the best thing going, well worth its money tbh, though a normal one and use calries divided by 40 also works Wink

Susan it's 7 weeks on WW for me.

LittleFriendSusan · 23/03/2011 13:46

CDL that's v good going :) Girl sat next to me at meeting on Mon had lost 1 stone in 8 weeks... I was v Envy as am on W10 and only at 11lb. But hey ho, it is coming off, however slowly!

Blondes seems very unfair that you STS or gain even without eating your exercise points... I can completely understand your frustrations!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2011 13:57

susan thanks, it is annoying, i earn maybe 12/16 exercise pp a week that i never use/count

so even if i ate 49 weekies, , thats really like 33 weekies if i used exercise ones iyswim

i have eaten 30weekies this week and would like more, but wont

im hoping for a lb loss fri, though thats only my gain lost iyswim

OP posts:
Piffle · 23/03/2011 14:11

I'll feel very fortunate to record much of a loss tbh, which is good in a way as it shows me what I can and cannot do with weeklies and activity PP to lose at a steady rate...

ClaireDeLoon · 23/03/2011 14:29

Just had my first 'have you lost weight' comment. OK was from office perv and it was probably because he spends too long staring at my boobs.....

hmc · 23/03/2011 14:29

Yes your situation really doesn't make sense Blondes because we know from Luckylight that at maintenance you are given 36pp per day as well as your 49 i.e. 301 pp per week - to STS

and yet you eat 29x7 = 203, plus some but not all of your weeklies putting you well below the theoretical STS level and yet last week gained a 1lb

I think I am due a 1lb gain tonight looking at my home scales - which we'll pee me off because although I have not been a paragon of virtue (I've eaten 275 pp but worked off 28 of those leaving me at around 247) I am well within the STS amount.

For next week (starting tomorrow for me) I am going to try Jillian Michael's advice but rather than 3 strict days I'm going for 4 like Piffle, and then 2 moderate and 1 'kick back' day. And I am also going to mix them up (rather than have them in a block) to really try and fox my metabolism, so:

Day 1: strict 29
Day 2: moderate 29 + say 12 weeklies
Day 3: strict 29
Day 4: moderate 29 + circa 12 weeklies
Day 5: strict 29
Day 6:kick back with 29 + remaining 25 weeklies (looking forward to that day)
Day 7: strict 29

And if it doesn't work by next WI I am going to write to Jillian calling her a fraud and a Charlatan and put her publications on the banned list + nominate her for the revolutionary inquisition.

hmc · 23/03/2011 14:31

CDL - congrats on your 2lb lost!

ClaireDeLoon · 23/03/2011 14:34

rofl at Jillian quaking in her boots in front of the revolutionary inquisition!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2011 14:41

HMC is is wise to have bad day, day before wi if day 6?

hadnt thought of it like that 29x7 (203) +49 = 252 and should lose weight

this week i would have eaten 203+30 - 233 so expect a loss

maybe i need to be bad fri and sat and eat all weekies then, and be good sun-thur, but then again ive done that before and gained an lb :(

OP posts:
ClaireDeLoon · 23/03/2011 14:46

How do you spread your dailies out over the day? I wonder if that is a factor (e.g. try to eat more of them during the day and fewer in the evening).

hmc · 23/03/2011 14:48

Blondes you have a point. Blow out day on day 6 may not be prudent! CDL - certainly 'Bob' the other Biggest Loser USA trainer was advocating that wasn't he - i.e. eat most food during the day and only a light evening meal....

ClaireDeLoon · 23/03/2011 14:52

Yes, I felt a tad guilty at Bob's comment as I'd just scoffed a plate of carb laden risotto.

hmc · 23/03/2011 14:55
Grin
ClaireDeLoon · 23/03/2011 14:57

To be fair I nearly brought it back up again when that chap took his top off to get weighed, how much spare skin hanging down/around???? Is that because they're losing so quickly?

androbbob · 23/03/2011 15:23

I sense a revolution on here! I have always suspected that WW is a marketing ploy to relieve us of our cash, but would have thought the diet was thoroughly market tested with a wide range of types of people. You see I never got how Slimming World worked - as I struggled with that one for a while to lose 19lbs over a year. I used to do ok with the old WW points if I was really strict, but I read somewhere that 12 weeks in the limit for losing weight before it tails off. I have been messing around since January to lose very little, but not gaining, so that is ok with me!

I too will try the shake up method - it kind of reminds me of the Wendy method for WW from a few years ago - similar to the 80 / 20 rule, so I will be revisting that and adopting that for the rest of March and April. I need to lose this next stone and have determined the end of May as my target date for that. (I am off for a week and want to be at the bottom end of the 12 st range!)

I to have been crusing around the WW boards on their site and there is rumblings there too!

I have not tracked properly for the past month but will start again tomorrow.

Still getting some good losses on this thread but it appears that those with the less to lose are having a tougher time.

Back later anyway!!

ClaireDeLoon · 23/03/2011 16:09

I saw this posted on the WW message boards:

Quite an interesting talk at the meeting today.

It was how you should be using your daily points.

We were told to draw a big circle on a piece of paper.

Then divide the circle into 3 equal parts

1/3 of that is your fruit and veg (all the '0' pointed stuff)

for the other 2/3's you are to split your daily allowance between these 2 - if you are on 29, then one will have 14 and one will have 15.

On the lower one (14pps) this will be your Carbs, ideally all brown (wholewheat/whole grains), ie pasta, rice, cereals, pulses, beans etc with bread being way down the list. We were told that you shouldnt spend more than 4 pps a day on bread (because its so highly processed).

Right, now the last 3rd.
Split this once again into 3 (so if you had 15 it will be 5 in each box).

  1. 5 pp's per day: Milk & dairy (incl yoghurts, cheese, milk & egg)

  2. 5 pp's per day: Protein: Lean meat, fish, pulses, beans & eggs etc

  3. 5 pp's per day: Fats & Sugars (ie treats).

This is the ideal split.

ClaireDeLoon · 23/03/2011 16:12

I tend to use more of my points on protein and less on carbs that this suggests. Maybe the way to get this balance is to have more of the pulses/beans (which of course are in both carbs and protein)?

Willabywallaby · 23/03/2011 16:22

Netmums was the source of the cleaners I have seen so far. Had one sorted last week but she decided her childcare wasn't reliable enough.

bigTillyMint · 23/03/2011 17:33

?

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2011 17:40

claire thats interesting about the circle and divide method, i am roughly that, though usually only use 3pp on a treat, crisps Grin

hmc i have 29 and have 5 for breakie and then 12 for lunch and tea, tried having 8 for lunch and starving

though out of that 12 i may use 3 for crisps from one of the meals, so really 9 one meal and 12 the other, by the time ive had 60g rice/pasta and salmon 6pp thats 12 :(

androb so true, i have 5 lbs less to lose, though may go 7 lbs lower and struggling :(

Willabywallaby · 23/03/2011 19:31

2lb off tonight which takes me to 9.5lb in total and my 5%.
