Thanks Bssh he's a lot better now.

I find at the moment I'm over eating but then thinking it's ok there's always tomorrow, but I obviously can't keep doing this. It's a shame because when I started this at the beginning of the year, after a couple of weeks it really clicked, but I've drifted since. This thread is helping though Smile

shrinkingnora · 06/03/2011 16:45

VJay - I think in that situation it is bloody hard not to comfort eat and you can't exactly get much exercise (unless you run up and down the hospital corridors). Probably if you weigh yourself tomorrow it will have gone anyway. But don't! I know what you mean about thinking it's okay there's always tomorrow - I do this a lot. But I am trying to just make improvements over all, which has got to be better than yoyo dieting for the rest if my life.

This article is quite interesting re changing habits, particularly the end - like PM's emotions knocking on the door analogy.

I am aiming for a gradual, permanent change. I may write this on post-its and stick them all round the house! I am certainly finding this way of thinking much more helpful than thinking in terms of goals and targets. If this is the last time I lose weight, I want to do it right. In fact, I think I am trying to feel better about myself and weightloss is a great side effect. Sorry, waffling now!

blinder · 06/03/2011 17:48

Nice name change Nora!

That's not waffling. It's really struck a chord with me. Focussing on the work of losing weight isn't helping me either. Gradual change around my addiction to food is what I'm after. The weight loss is hopefully a secondary benefit.

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 06/03/2011 18:02

Interesting article shrinking :)

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 06/03/2011 18:03

I am hoping I am quicker than 245 days though Shock

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 06/03/2011 18:19

I was just reading some of my old diet-related websites, and saw people who were feeling guilty/upset/annoyed at themselves becuase they had eaten a spoonful of gravy with their dinner or ate a biscuit while out for a coffee. I just wanted to dive in & tell them it doesnt have to be this way! I never would of course, it would never be ok to preach to people lol but I just wanted to take that guilt from them. It makes me sad that they stuck in the diet-world, and that not so long ago that was me :(

BsshBossh · 06/03/2011 18:34

HowToLookGoodGlaikit, sadly there are people with the same guilt on the MN weight threads.

shrinkingnora · 06/03/2011 18:40

I often have to resist the urge to post "There is another way" on all of those threads. For anyone lurking, take the plunge because this is a sustainable and effective way of improving your relationship with food.

BsshBossh · 06/03/2011 22:30

Up-thread I mentioned, jokingly, modelling my toddler DD's food behaviour - well tonight I think I did it completely unconsciously: DH and DD made oat and raisin cookies today. She had one after her dinner and I ate one at the same time as a snack with coffee. We both left half a biscuit on our plates - both of us full. I've never left half a biscuit uneaten before. Changes are afoot in my eating habits Smile. Goodnight all!

arfur · 06/03/2011 22:50

Do you know I reckon today has been my worst day since the seminar! I was really chuffed with the weigh-in at 1st but I think the old mentality crept in and at tea time actually ate lots more than I wanted because of the voice saying 'youve lost 6 pounds' spoil yourself. Have had indigestion so that will teach me. Think I will write in my journal on the next weigh in day how Im feeling to see if I can prevent feeling the same way next time. Or maybe just stop the weighing altogether. Think it just gets me on the path to thinking well youve lost it before but put it back on again so whats the point. Wise words from Blinder actually, I need to focus on how much better in myself ive been feeling and just let the weightloss become an added bonus. Am rambling now so will head off to bed - MUST get the cds on to my IPOD this week. Glad everyones doing so well xxx

nevergoogle · 06/03/2011 23:22

Anyone else struggle with the bit in the diary that says 'what are you looking forward to tomorrow?'.
Especially weekdays, I really don't look forward to anything.

Having fucking miserable cold. Not impressed.
Have eaten marzipan, i'm going to put the rest in the bin. Fuck.

solo · 06/03/2011 23:27

I'm back! and I'm going to try again.

Jeans are a lot looser and I need more holes in my belt, but I've more to go.

arfur · 06/03/2011 23:31

Oh dear NG sounds like a bad day - marzipan is the work of the devil - perhaps you could try thinking of something nice for your lunch the next day to look forward to? Coming down with something too have really sore throat and cant stop sneezing/nose running - brilliant!

nevergoogle · 06/03/2011 23:40

Just having my usual Sunday night misery. Fact is, I'm bullied at work. DS has conjunctivitis and I think i'll need to take the day off, which means work is worse when i get back.
strrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeessssed.

nevergoogle · 07/03/2011 00:08

Sorry that last thread should have read:

My job really is quite a challenge, however it all stands me in good stead for when i move into the mental health field as i am gaining experience of sociopathic behaviours first hand. Grin

How was that? The sunny side of the street?

Morning all - glad to hear some of you are making great progress and for the rest of you keep on going - you are piloting your body for the rest of your life, it's no longer the responsibility of some daft bint in a busy scarf standing next to the scales at the front of the room. :)

This weekend we decluttered the entire house bar one room (the one I'm in at the minute and today we're doing that room). This house is going to sell very quickly I am determined and we are going to move to a wonderful six bedroomed pad with lush gardens and wonderfully flat walls (I live in a 16th century cottage nothing is flat).

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 07/03/2011 08:13

Oh WMMC, you make me so jealous Envy Grin

I was reading a Intuitive Eating blog this morning, and this quote stood out to me

Good food, real food, is so much more satisfying than diet food.

It's so true. I am making lunch for soem friends today, and they are doing SW so I am making it as SW friendly as possible. And thats depressing! Trying to find a recipe that appeals to my tastebuds as well as keep to their "rules" is not easy, and i used to think SW was such a fabulous eating plan.

I have found a couple of buffet food ideas that do appeal to me thoughm and should be ok for my friends. Ill just add a drop of mayo to mine instead of fat free yogurt :)

Hope everyone has a good day today :)

ppeatfruit · 07/03/2011 08:45

Hi nevergoogle if you were REALLY hungry and ate consciously then i can think of worse things than marzipan ! Almonds are a fab food. Sorry to hear about yr work problems that's hard.

arfur · 07/03/2011 09:24

Lol at daft bint in busy scarf - so true Grin

solo · 07/03/2011 09:56

Off to a good start at breakfast. Will listen to a cd tonight and fill in my journal.

UrsulaBuffay · 07/03/2011 10:14

Shouldn't have but hopped on the scales and they've gone back down to what I thought, they're a proper brain fuck and no mistake. Shan't be doing it again promise

UrsulaBuffay · 07/03/2011 10:24

Hope NeverGoogle's Monday isn't as bad as it feared. Lolling at busy scarf woman.

I think diet food is abhorrent now, totally looking at it through new eyes. Shocking when you get to this point!

Feeling far more positive, hopefully some weight will begin to creep off (am always a v slow loser).

Have lost 7lb since January 1st one way or another and want to get back below the 12st mark as that is my OMG point.

MaryDancesTheTango · 07/03/2011 10:43

Really stupid question but do you just lie in a darkened room and listen to the CD? Is that it or is there more?

I have been doing this for almost a week. Blush

solo · 07/03/2011 11:26

I put mine on as I get into bed and fall asleep Mary.
