Morning all!

I still can't get over how quickly this thread moves, so apologies if I miss anyone out.

Welcome lady and debs!

hmc that is un-FRIGGIN'-believable! WELL DONE!! Grin Grin Grin And massive congrats to shoulders too!

Wynken sorry to hear about car and electrics - why is it disasters come all at one time like buses?? Feel your pain...

willaby - happy birthday! Have a Wine and enjoy your day, you can get your focus back tomorrow!

JoJo hope you're feeling better today. If it's any consolation, I'm competing with you for feeling like a crap mum, DS made yesterday a living hell, and I was so upset I just started crying, which made him sad too. Disastrous day all round, and I couldn't even have a Wine at the end of it cos of HARDCORE antibiotics. DH had to bring home chicken and chips instead!

On the BNS soup today, as well as really low point veg frittat, although not panicking just yet as still have weeklies left.

Need some advice on how to point something - went to independent little cafe this morning and had a banana, hazlenut and oat muffin. It was cupcake size (rather than, say, Starbucks size) and on the label it said "virtually fat free"? What do you reckon? 3PP maybe? Or more? Just want to track as accurately as possible...

abgirl · 03/03/2011 13:11

Yay! Issue with the car was a dodgy battery, which was still covered by a warranty so I have a brand new replacement in the boot nowGrin - just need to get home from work in one piece and DH is going to change the battery for me this evening - am v relieved :).

Well done hmc - am a bit Envy as I never lose more than 2lbs a week, but maybe one day...

NoWay I do homemade banana muffins cupcake size that are 4PPs.

Welcome debs

Willaby you need to get into a routine - am finding ww much easier being back at work this week, than trying to do it at home during half term last week.

hmc · 03/03/2011 13:35

Thanks for the congrats everybody Smile, it was a bit unprecedented for me too abgirl, to set it in context, in the period before this week it had taken me 4 weeks to lose 5lbs....and then I get 5lb in one week! ....only in my dreams will I pull another result like last night's weigh in any time soon Grin.

Back later to talk properly....

hmc · 03/03/2011 13:36

noway - I'd give it 5 (lots of sugar also hazlenuts) ...possible allocating too many pps to it, but best to over-estimate rather than under?

bluebump · 03/03/2011 13:37

Well done lucky and to everyone else who has had good results lately. I've not been on for a few weeks, I had a terrible cold which meant I managed to lose 4lbs in a week which wasn't a real loss and then put on about 6lbs the following week so i'm waiting until Monday to start again now and get a correct number on the scales to work with!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2011 14:39

welcome debs

noway possibly 5pp for muffin, they are tricky buggers to pp

abgirl glad only a battery

bluebump yah at 4lbs tho sorry you were ill, boo at 6lbs gain,so i only make that a 2lb gain iyswim

bigTillyMint · 03/03/2011 16:57

So is it just me, or are the WW sweets still only 1pp a box because they are only half as full?Hmm

hmc · 03/03/2011 20:05

Ha ha Tilly - could be right there. I love, love, love those orange and lemon ones though.

So Jojo - happy with your haircut, are you looking babelicious?

Willaby and Wynken - am liking the 'determined' talk and the quest for 'focus', did the day pan out like that, have you both been uber good?

Blondes how was body combat, have you sweated out that 1lb you need for tomorrow?

Feeling frustrated here - got major writers block on my essay, but at least it looks like old habits really have died, it hasn't made me reach for the biscuit tin!

debs39 · 03/03/2011 21:18

Evening all!!! Only on 11th day of ww so still v new to this all...can anyone give me any advice re TOTM....am soooooo bloated look like I have swallowed a football...so daren't weigh-in yet ( doing this at home so don't have to WI on a set day )...weight goes up by over 5lbs (when not dieting) at TOTM. So am worried if I WI and am heavier than would like that I'll lose all motivation ...do I dare to or not??????

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2011 21:52

Happy birthday willa hope you had a nice day :)

Been to the gym and kicked arse and just eaten chicken and ham low fat subway - was yummy :)

Here's to a loss tomorrow as sts the last 2 weeks - but then I had gone over weekies

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 03/03/2011 22:00

hmc yes I works hard at bc so fingers crossed for tomorrow

deb if you are doing ww at home alone then you really need to have a WI day and always stick to it NO MATTER What you have eaten or totm otherwise yoy are just cheating yourself iyswim

Seems most of us sts or gain when AF I here

Don't think anyone has lost - but do say so here if you have :)

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 04/03/2011 07:20

hmc yes they are my faves tooSmile

debs I have your problem too - I find it totally disheartening to WI as I would definitely have gained, even though it might all be water retention.

debs39 · 04/03/2011 08:09

Arghhhhh!!! WI this morning and after all my pointing and exercise and being really good and I promise I am tracking every single morsel.....I have put on 1.25lbs :( I know though that am doing more than is going in ( the old eat less do more principle!!) so at some point ( ha ha I hope ) it surely has to show on the scales!!! V V tempting to skip the gym and go back to bed for duvet morning after dropped Small Child at nursery...after all...there is loads of Xmas chocolate still left...but gonna try and BE STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need some boosting...please...

NoWayNoHow · 04/03/2011 08:27

Ah debs that sucks! If it's any consolation, the exact same thing happened to me when I started exercising as well as tracking. I couldn't figure out why I had gained when I'd put all the effort in. But some lovely person on this thread reminded me that 1lb of muscle is about a THIRD of the size of 1lb of fat.

Your exercise is probably building muscle - have you tried taking your measurements as well as just the WI? After all, isn't all about what SIZE we are rather than what weight we are? If we could fit into size 10 jeans, it wouldn't matter if we weighed 100st, would it?

Don't give up, if you really are sticking to it and tracking everything, you will see either the lbs come off or your body shape change, or even a combination of both!

debs39 · 04/03/2011 08:36

Just about to zoom out of door with Small Child but cldnt resist checking if anyone had given me any pearls of wisdom!!! Thanks NWNH!!! I do actually feel slimmer...(??!!!) so just going to stick at it...... :)

froot · 04/03/2011 08:42

Hi debs Prob have missed you but I am compiling a survival guide for 2 of my non mn friends, this is it so far:
Weightwatchers Propoints Survival Guide

  1. To keep points low, try not to mix protein with white carbs. So if you have pasta, have it with a veggy sauce, same with risottos- veg only and try to stick to vegetable curries with rice.

  2. If you want a meat sauce with rice (eg casseroles, curries etc) use a rice substitute. Use a food processor to turn courgette or cauliflower into tiny rice-sized chips and blast for 30-60 seconds in the microwave to heat (not cook) and it will have a rice-like texture. Can be mixed with a small quantity of rice or use completely instead of rice. Courgette grates well too.

  3. Butternut squash is your best friend Smile. Mash it, stuff it, risotto it, roast it, soup it, turn it into chips ? it has zero points.

  4. Wine is your enemy Sad...............dont know why but I think it should have double the points ww have allocated it as it has a totally sabotaging effect

  5. Philly cheese light is you next best friend! Sweet chilli flavour heated and mixed with a bit of skimmed milk makes a delicious sauce for chicken, fish or pasta. Good on ryvita (esp sweet onion ryvita), jacket potatoes etc etc

  6. Quorn mince is not as disgusting as it sounds. If you cant bear the thought, use a pack of quorn mince and a pack of turkey mince, makes delicious chilli or spag bol sauce (really no-one will notice)and is fine in lasagne as meets requirements for point 1.

  7. Venison sausages are the lowest points sausages and tesco ones are the best ? 2 sausages 4 points and they are very filling. Venison steak is only 3 points for a pre-packed quite small steak but it is very rich and filling. Sorry bambi.

  8. Turkey bacon is extremely low -1 point for 2 rashers so if you use ww bread you can have a huge bacon butty with 4 rashers for only 4 points

  9. WW foods ? rich toffee bars are the best and the fruity fromage frais is good too. All the yogs and from frais are 1 point a pot.

  10. But the best ww food is the plain crème fraiche, it is miles lower fat etc than any of the other ?light? or ?reduced fat? crème fraiches and is good in cooking, for casseroles curries etc to make them creamy but also good on fruit/desserts

  11. Best chocolate hit is ww chocolate dessert, mixed with mashed up sugar free raspberry jelly ? makes a huge bowl of black foresty pudding for only 2 points

  12. Options hot chocolates ? most have only 1 point

  13. John West tuna light lunches are delicious mixed with ½ a chopped cucumber for a quick lunch and are only 5 or 6 points depending on variety

  14. You really do have to count every single point that passes your lips....unless you do what I do ? I do not give myself any points for exercise then I don?t bother to count milk in tea/coffee , ketchup etc

  15. Watch your fruit consumption ? although it is zero rated if you eat too much you will not lose weight. Obvious really as quite high sugar and calories. For example just 10-12 grapes is a portion of fruit.

  16. If you use all 49 weekly points every week you will lose weight but most likely more slowly....but you will still lose. Probably only ½ to 1 pound a week (after the initial week or two of quicker loss) rather than 2 lb a week. However ½ lb a week is still about 26 lb in a year and is probably a more sustainable way of living!

Would be great if anyone can add to it and feel free to disagree with any of my points!!

froot · 04/03/2011 08:45

Ooops realise point 1 sounds like all you should eat on ww pp is vegetable curries and rice Shock!! Obv I mean instead of having a a curry night, instead of having meat curry, pick a veggy option. Actually Waitrose have a fab easy quick low fat aubergine curry recipe that is delicious......

froot · 04/03/2011 08:57

Waitrose Aubergine curry recipe:

2 medium aubergines
2 tbsp sunflower oil frylight spray
2 cloves garlic chopped
2 cm ginger chopped
1 tbsp red thai curry paste
juice of 1 lime
2 tbsp dark muscovado sugar
1 tbsp soy suace
1/2 can reduced fat coconut milk

Cur aub into small cubes, fry onion garlic and ginger until starting to brown then add aub and fry til browned. Stir in curry paste and cook for 1 min. Add lime juice soy and s&p. Add 400 ml cold water and bring to boil. Simmer for 20 mins til soft and sauce thick. Stir in coconut milk. Yummy!

I reckon only about 15 points max - maybe nearer 13 -for whole recipe and it serves 4 . Waitrose make it 5 pp per serving but that is using sunflower oil not frylight.

As it's so low pp (esp if you use rice substitute above) - best enjoyed with a nice cold magners light Grin

Right - thats me all posted out - off to kill myself doing level 3 shred now.......

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/03/2011 09:00

debs sorry you gained :( but agree muscle weighs more than fat, so always measure yourself every 4 weeks

froot fab tips :)

Yippee - really pleased for you blondes as I know you were getting fed up after a couple of weeks of STS, well done!

Debs - glad you are going to stick with it - you will see results on the scales soon - and use some of froot's tips, - froot - respect!, there are some great suggestions there. I particularly like the low fat philly cheese as a sauce one

debs39 · 04/03/2011 09:47

Just a thought..have been looking back over my tracker and seen that am having at last 8 under my allowance (29) and not using weeklies or exercise points...is there such a thing as not eating enough to lose weight?? Or is that just some random thought / memory I have??? :(

NoWayNoHow · 04/03/2011 09:49

HOORAAAAAAAAAAYY for blondes

froot loving your work! Unfortunately have a DH who doesn't believe in vegetarian food. He's convinced that he'll starve if he has any meal that doesn't have protein, carbs and veg all in one, and I get a "I'm HUNGRY" about 2 minutes after clearing his plate Confused

froot · 04/03/2011 09:53

blondes fabby well done this week! And for the whole 2 stonio!!

debs I gather that if you do not eat enough your metabolism slows down as your body tries to hang on to every calorie ingested in preparation for a food shortage - an evolutionary meachnism I think so yes you do need to make sure you eat all your daily points or your weight loss will slow down/stop
