wizzler - 2 x mini milk is good going. I've just eaten pie and chips!

Back on the wagon tomorrow. I've already made my zero point soup. [smile[

Welcome divine. Good luck with your first week. There are several of us on this thread with lots to lose. How much are you hoping to lose altogether?

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 01/03/2011 23:02

Welcome divine! Interesting to read about your experience with slimming world. Had wondered about trying them, glad I didn't now!

Well done on today's losses ladies, I have my wi tomorrow - if I've lost 0.5 lb i'll get my 10% award. Fingers crossed.

Littlefish, that's a fab total, i'm sure you can make it to 3 stone by Easter.

divinedestiny · 01/03/2011 23:21

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Here's hoping the new plan works for me too. Listening to the people in the group meeting today, it sounds like the weight does come off really slowly. Today there were some who put on, some who stayed the same and some who lost between 0.5 and 3lbs, but im planning on sticking with it (once i get to grips with the plan) as im tired of being overweight. I've got about 5st to lose. But losing just 2 stone last yr made a huge difference. Hope I can get there again.

Well done to everyone with their weight loses so far.

NoWayNoHow · 02/03/2011 08:16

Welcome divine, hope you see some really good results. The more you have to lose, the faster it tends to come off with the new plan (especially in the first 2-3 weeks), so if you stick to it you should see some really good results from your next WI's!

Good luck for WI today, shoulders and to everyone else who's going!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 02/03/2011 08:16

Welcome Divine. WW works much better for me than SW though I weigh in at the SW class I joined last summer as it is very supportive and just don't tell them I am doing PP !

Apologies, can't keep up with the thread on my phone at all. Having a bad week, DD off sick with builders ripping the upstairs to pieces and the car in the garage facing a £1700 bill. Was struggling but still within points until last night and am now 25 points over weekly and exercise points. I guess at least I know where I am which is something but need to be good today as WI tomorrow. Last week I lost more than anticipated due to D&V so suspect that with that plus a bad week I am going to gain, which I haven't for months so need to get over being cross with myself.

Well done to those of you shredding, mine is still in wrapper and taunts me periodically from the confines of the Amazon packaging it came in.

hmc · 02/03/2011 09:45

Sorry to have missed Norma - if you are still hovering Norma, miss you and sorry to hear you are not yet on top form.

Blondes and froot - fingers crossed for you that you both have it off this week (this double entendre thing could just run and run...)

Well done Littlefish, JoJo and wizzler on your losses - all going in the right direction! I have my weigh in tonight and I shall be spitting feathers if I haven't lost a decent amount since I've done everything by the book this week - also apparently I gained 0.5lb last week (am defiantly refusing to believe the class scales and prefer to persuade myself that it was an STS Grin)

Crbear - with that punishing exercise schedule I think the cake incident must surely be neutralised? Keep it up!

Wynken - you've got a lot going on, if you have gained this week don't be too hard on yourself

Littlefish - I saw Biggest Loser too. The Green team were worthy winners weren't they. I agree with you that it is better to lose weight at a more even pedestrian pace though, can't be good for skin elasticity to suddenly deflate!

ClaireDeLoon · 02/03/2011 10:25

Hello everyone and well done on some great losses. I'm impressed at just how much a lot of you have lost already.

Had my WI this morning, lost 1lb which means in the first 4 weeks I've only lost 6lbs and I'm very fed up tbh. I've been walking a lot (4-5 miles a day average) and doing shred at least 5 days a week and I'm not seeing it in inch loss either.

bigTillyMint · 02/03/2011 11:02

Claire, how much do you want to lose in total? Just wondering because if it is not that much, maybe that's why it's slow? Are you writing everything down ruthlessly?Smile

ClaireDeLoon · 02/03/2011 11:06

I need to lose a whopping 52lbs just to get my bmi down to 25, at the current 1lb a week that will take a year. And I'm being ruthless about tracking, doing it on my iphone via the WW app and I make sure I track everything, right down to the milk in my tea. Eating all my weeklies and trying not to eat my activity points.

I know people have said about wine but I'm loathe to give it up at weekends and if drinking wine and tracking those points (and I do so honestly, if it's a big glass I track it as so) means you don't lose weight then I think there's something wrong with the system.

I will try to up my cardio this week see if that makes a difference.

LittleFriendSusan · 02/03/2011 11:18

Lucky - well done you! You look fab Smile

loublou & sparkle101 - fab losses, well done!

chicaguapa - I'm averaging about 1.5lb a week, generally using most of my weeklies. I count everything and tend to over-estimate if anything. I don't earn very many activity points but don't use the few I do get! I am the opposite to sparkle101 I think, in that I get better results if I have a few extras each day rather than one big splurge. Saying that, my splurges tend to be on a Sat and I weigh in on a Monday, so that probably doesn't help!

NoWayNoHow - meetings keep me on track (it's the public humiliation thing Grin), but it's whatever suits you best.

bigTillyMint & froot - sorry you put on, but sure it'll come off again this week!

abgirl - all that exercise must have paid off if you STS!

Norma - good to see you posting and hope things improve for you soon...

JoJo - 8.5lb in 4 weeks is great - just over 2lb a week!

Littlefish, wizzler, ClairedeLoon - well done for losing :)

Well, I also lost 0.5lb this week, bringing me to 10lb in 6 weeks... Not complaining as I was hoping for a STS at best after my Sat night binge! Had a sneaky WI this morning at home and have lost another lb or so, so hopefully next week's WI will be better!

Noticed a few at WI with losses of 6lb+ in a week! Think it was the first week for some so bigger losses expected but still!

bigTillyMint · 02/03/2011 11:18

Yes, maybe you are not burning as much as you think with the exercise? Also it has to be on top of your normal exercise to count.

I don't use my exercise points and even then my weight-loss is very slow (but that is because I am a gold member and keep close to goal, I think!)

LittleFriendSusan · 02/03/2011 11:36

ClairedeLoon - few ideas, though you prob have thought about these already.

How much fruit are you eating and what fruits? Leader said at this week's meeting if you have too many bananas and grapes you won't lose... Bananas I knew about, but wouldn't have thought grapes were any worse than other fruits!

Are you drinking enough fluids? I def lose more if I up my water intake, just have to keep reminding myself to drink it!

Are you eating mainly "filling & healthy" foods? Personally, I think it def. makes a difference how I use my points. E.g. tin of sardines more points than a creme egg... but I think the sardines do me more good than the creme egg Grin.

Do you follow general healthy eating principles, i.e. half plate veg & small portion protein & carbs? Do you get enough dairy? Lot of people say yogurt aids weight loss. I like my danone Activia fat free yogurts and have one a day. Generally 2PP so higher than the WW ones, but I find them much tastier and more filling. And they don't have the overpowering artificial sweetener taste I find with some of the WW stuff. I hate that chemical aftertaste... I made some stewed rhubarb with Splenda as per an oldish WW mag, and ending up throwing it in the bin as that's all I could taste. Will stick with small amount of sugar / honey, I think!

Re. wine - I'm still drinking wine and losing! Had points left after dinner last night so had a large glass - if you point it correctly it shouldn't make much difference. Though obv a glass is better than a bottle (says she who had far more than a bottle Sat night Wink)

Are you weighing all your food? Easy to underestimate by a point here or there if not, and it soon adds up over the course of a week.

If you give us an idea of what sort of things you're eating, someone might have more ideas?

Chin up, it will come off if you stick at it :)

LoopyLa · 02/03/2011 11:46

Oh God, Oh God, Oh God...

I'm seriously bored at work and want to eat my body weight in chocolate (comfort eating/boredom strikes!!!).

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll pick up a piece of fruit instead but my word it is so hard to keep motivated when you hate your job. How I've not eaten the whole Cadbury's chocolate assortment these last 2 weeks I don't know....

Wonder how many points is in a Boost bar?(dribbles.....) Blush

ClaireDeLoon · 02/03/2011 11:58

I do weigh stuff like potato, pasta etc but say for a chicken breast I just assume the average.

OK today I will eat:

breakfast
One cup of tea at home (1pp for the milk)
Starbucks tall skinny latte (3pps) and a banana when I got to work
Apple mid morning

Lunch
Pret soup - today it's either moroccan chicken or lentil and bacon, both work out at 8pps
Granary roll from waitrose (3pps)
WW Rich toffee bar (2pps)
Orange mid afternoon

Dinner
Chicken breast, grilled (4pps) but I marinated it in a mexican thing that has 2 tablespoons of oil and I used the marinade for 8 chicken breasts, so 1/4 of a tablespoon came out as 1pp
butternut squash wedges with spray oil
spinach, just wilted in a frying pan, no oil etc
mullerlight cherry yoghurt (2pps)

I make that 24pps and I haven't decided what to spend my other 5 pps on. I avoid grapes and overripe bananas.

Re healthy eating principles - yes definitely following those. DP was dignosed with diabetes in November so we've been to see dietician for that and we're both following her advice, 50% of plate veg, 25% carbs and 25% protein. He's done really well and lost a whopping 18lbs since being diagnosed (that said he used to eat at least one choc bar like a twix or snickers a day and chug back full fat coke so there were a lot of calories cut out straight away!).

I think you may be right re fluids I will make an effort to drink more. I was rubbish yesterday as I was working at home.

Sorry for being all me me me I just find it frustrating.

hmc · 02/03/2011 12:48

Your diet plan for today sounds great ClaireDL. Not much to add to the advice except to reinforce the fruit thing - our leader reminds us it is 'zero-rated' rather than 'free food', and as with all zero rated food they attract pps when eaten in sufficient quantities (e.g. 1 tbsp of soy sauce is zero rated, but 3 tbsps are 1pp). She told us no more than around a dozen grapes! (I thought that was very little)

Also whilst you are not sure why the weight loss isn't happening then I personally would weigh the chicken breast rather than assume the average (yep, I know it is tedious!)

Loopyla - DON'T EAT THE CHOCOLATE!

LittleFriendSusan · 02/03/2011 12:53

Hmmm doesn't look that dissimilar to my average day TBH! Not much of a breakfast though! Have you tried having some sort of wholegrains / porridge or protein type brekkie (eggs, etc?) to try to kick-start your metabolism? No way I could go until lunch on just fruit and coffee...

Are you only on 29PP per day? I would have thought you'd have more than that if you have 52lb to lose? I have 29PP and needed to lose less than 1.5 stone to get to healthy BMI? Could be that you're not eating enough - especially if you're getting more exercise. (I do very little ATM... need to work on this!).

Apart from that nothing really jumps out though...

ClaireDeLoon · 02/03/2011 13:13

Thanks - Susan I've always been rubbish at eating brekkie before I walk out of the door but yes, will try to eat a bowl of cereal (I have special K sustain in, not sure if its wholegrain or not).

I have no idea how to check if 29pps a day are right - I was told it's because I'm only 5' 4" but tbh I did wonder how I was meant to sustain losing weight as the pounds dropped off, as with the old system you lost a point each time you dropped a stone.

hmc I just don't buy grapes as DP doesn't eat them as he could see what they did to his blood sugar levels. Ditto if he ate a fully ripe banana rather than one on the turn from green to yellow.

This week I'm not going to track my activity points so I can't use them, make sure I weigh everything even chicken breast and use all 49 of my weeklies. See how I get on.

Thanks all for advice and support.

androbbob · 02/03/2011 13:23

shoulders et al - thanks for the shove - hope it works!! I am WI on saturdays for March so will see!

Wow Well Done to sparkles and Loubou for your fab losses this week - something in the water to get those fab losses? What did you do different this week? Share!

Well done also to abgirl, JoJo, Wizzler, Littlefish, Clairedeloon - all good losses and in the right direction.

froot - ah well a little gain - draw a line under it and mvoe on to this week hey!

littlefish - I too watched Biggest Loser and agre there was a lot of spanx going on there! What was the point of glamming them up and then making them get changed into the exercise gear - some fab losses but alot of spare flesh hanging around. Hope they do keep it up though - would be a shame to see it all go back on once the camers stopped rolling.

Yay - Norma popped in - hope RL is getting better and you will be back with us soon - sending big hugs.

Welcome to divine

Clairedeloon - do you eat similar things most days and most weeks? I think it is a bit like exercise - your body get used to it. So perhaps try eating the same PP but mix it up a bit to trick your body - so have a different breakfast and different friuts just to see if that makes a difference. I find I cant eat that much carbs (I know you are not having a great amount) but having one meal a day carb free tends to help me out. Also big stir fry veg with everything is another bulk it out option. let us know what goes on this week!

sparkle101 · 02/03/2011 13:30

claire was going to say the same about brekkie, I hate hate hate breakfast but since I have been having it the weight has come off better, kick starting my metabolism I think. (When I say I have breakfast I have 4 rich tea biscuits 4pp) Blush still it works for me with breakfast!!

Also, your roll at lunch (not sure how you would do this) are you weighing it? I've started having rolls again after a break and was using the guide in the folder to work out points but it wasn't till I weighed it that I found out what I thought was a medium white roll at 4pp was actually large at 6pp.

Keep going though - you are doing well and you must be feeling healthier for it (with all the exercise you do! I managed two thirds of the shred yesterday and I am a wreck today!) It will happen!

LittleFriendSusan · 02/03/2011 13:37

I'm only 5ft5 so not particularly tall! I just changed my weight on the tracker to 52lb above healthy BMI and it gave me a daily allowance of 31PP? I know it goes on age too - I'm 33. Do you use the online tracker as that should be right based on measurements etc?

I would definitely try weighing everything and see - & like you say, try not to eat any activity points for a week. Good luck!

LittleFriendSusan · 02/03/2011 13:44

Androbbob - what about me (sniff)?! Only joking - just wanted to make sure you got my massive 0.5lb loss on your spreadsheet Grin.

claire - sparkle101 has a v good point re the lunchtime roll - depending on where I buy them they vary in weight from 35g (small granary) to a whopping 100g. Not a massive difference in size so v deceptive! Same with bagels if you have them at all.

Also agree about trying different food to shake it up!

TheLadyEvenstar · 02/03/2011 14:23

can I join in?

I joined WW last week and went for weigh in yesterday, I lost 5lb in the week.

I was 13st 8.5 and now am 13st 3.5 - I am hoping to lose enough to get into a comfortable 12 atm I am a 14-16.

TBH I am finding it hard to work points etc out.

Welcome TheLadyEvenstar and well done on a great loss in your first week :o and a bit Envy too!

I find it easier to work out points by tracking online or on WW iPhone app. If you're a monthly pass member you can use those for free. I find the little wheel thing they give out fiddly!
