Thinbride - you cant spot tone I'm afraid - you need to exercise all your body (so cardio) to reduce the fat so you can see the muscle definition underneath. I think a structured programme would be good for you.The shred dvd is a good starting point - make it so you do it at least 4 times a week. Use water bottles or tins for weights to start off then progress to 1.5kilo weights. Beyond that, boxing (on wii or classes or dvd - check out the Davina boxfit one or Billy Blanks Taebo) is excellent for toned arms and backs.

Cardio - do a walk/run three times a week if you can - or swimming (good for arms and backs but really go for it) - and you'll really see results v quickly!

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 04/04/2011 09:32

Dinky if only i could swim!

Will shred 3 times a week, going to try the power plate thing this week also and may do a bit of yoga? Dont know how much that will help but it may loosen the joints a bit.

Still no trainers as cant get to the shop, this is what happens when you live miles from decent shops. With any luck this weekend will be better.

Off to do some house work me thinks, then SIL is popping over for a cuppa.

knottyhair · 04/04/2011 10:03

Morning! Dinky, great advice as usual. Thinbride, if you can fit in anymore shredding, you'll notice a difference much quicker. Go on, it's only 20 mins Smile! I've just done Level 1 and managed Natalie for everything except half a set of press-ups when I had to drop to my knees! Got to make a really good effort this week as Wednesday night I'm going to a pop-up supper club thingy in Soho (courtesy of my lovely friend as an early birthday present). The chefs are Dhruv Baker and Lisa Faulkner, so I'm very excited, but I know it will be lovely food and I will want to scoff the lot. So I'm trying to be extra good so I can just enjoy it. My sister has lent me a lovely dress to wear - she's been slimmer than me for quite a while (12/14, and I was always 14/16), and I thought there's no way it would fit me but tried it on and it fits! So chuffed. Going to treat myself to a new pair of shoes tomorrow to go with it. Either soup or ham salad wrap for lunch, and making a low fat prawn curry with rice & cauliflower for tea later. Have a good one everyone!

Shaxx · 04/04/2011 19:13

Thinbride I also second doing shred 4x a week. When I was doing it 3x, it seemed like it was having no effect! Whereas 4-5x made a huge difference in just a couple of weeks. Hope you get your trainers soon!
Also, don't forget that weight loss comes mainly from diet - the exercise just boosts and tones

Knotty woohoo for fitting into your sisters dress! I would love to fit into my sisters outfits - she's a size 10!

Yesterday, I did a 30min fat burn session on the cross trainer, then some brisk walking on the treadmill. I wanted to do a Spin class tomorrow but its all booked. Grr will have to book tomorrow for next Tuesday!

Food has been v good today
Yoghurt, fruit
Itsu 7 veg soup
banana
sushi for dinner. yum.

I swear if I worked full time, I'd be a helluva lot slimmer!

knottyhair · 05/04/2011 16:35

Goodness, it's quiet on here. You all must have lives or something Grin. Routemarched into town this morning to get some new shoes for tomorrow night. Miraculously managed to find some. Veg soup for lunch, and I've made a shepherdess pie for when we get in from DS's parents evening later. Hope everyone is OK x

knottyhair · 05/04/2011 16:36

And Shaxx, you sound like you're really in the zone Smile!

thedogwalker · 05/04/2011 16:47

Knotty that is great news about the dress, how fab Smile.

Shaxx when do you find the time to fit all that in. I'm busy packing the house up, not great fitness but I suppose I should be burning off some calories [hope so emoticon].

Home made bolognaise for me tonight, no pasta though as I don't do pasta made from wheat, and I haven't made my own pasta, so it will be with baked potato.

Hope everyone has had a good day, take care xx

Knotty - Enjoy tomorrow night.

I'm hiding. I've been BAAAAD! Damn chocolate, damn lack of self control, damn pmt.

fedupofnamechanging · 05/04/2011 19:32

Hi all,

am having a difficult day today. I'd eaten all my calories by 4.30 and am really hungry.

Had 2 ryvitas and 1 egg for breakfast.
Yoghurt
Home made chicken soup and a Crunchie
2 ryvita and 2 slices of salami with cherry tomatoes for tea.
1 fruit ice lolly.

so, no calories left. To make matters worse,I can smell my bread baking!

Am not liking today at all Sad

justaminute · 05/04/2011 20:47

Karma - could you fit in some exercise to earn yourself some calories? I've just done levels 1 and 2 of the shred to make a small positive contribution to today's calorie overload. Too knackered now to get to the kitchen to eat.

justaminute · 05/04/2011 20:50

btw - your intake for the day doesn't sound like many calories to me. But hey I guess that estimating calories is where I'm going wrong Blush

knottyhair · 05/04/2011 21:01

JAM, suitably impressed at you doing 2 levels back to back! Wow. Karma, where have you got your calorie limit from? I'm only asking as soup for lunch and ryvitas for tea is not much at all, I'm not surprised you're hungry. What recipe did you use for the soup? I'm assuming it was a low fat type one, not one made with cream or anything? And was it a big crunchie or a treat size one? I don't think sticking to this sort of eating is sustainable in the long run, or at least it wouldn't be for me! Hope you don't mind me asking but I really would revisit your calorie allowance Smile.

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 06/04/2011 07:05

Morning all, been good thus far, no exercise yet apart from walking to school and back and working!

Today is the day im gonna start the shred i think. Need to motivate my self to move tho! Keep thinking of me with flabby arms and a fat back in my dress and its not a good look.

Also i will order the trainers today if it kills me, really want to get started on the running.

Not sure on food for today, but think i may have a boiled egg for breakfast.

fedupofnamechanging · 06/04/2011 07:29

Morning everyone,

I worked out that I should be having around 1200 calories per day, which is 500 less than I would need to maintain current weight. I have been trying to go on my cross trainer every day, but missed yesterday because I was so tired. I was asleep on the sofa by 8.30 last night. Will have to make up for it today, because I weight myself this morning and have put on 1 pound. I ate some bread and jam last night because I was so hungry and what with the crunchie (normal size), it messed up my daily allowance.

The soup was my mums home made chicken and veg one. She puts pasta in it, but I only had a small amount. Because i didn't make it, i guessed the calories at about 200, but perhaps that was wishful thinking.

I have bought the shred DVD, but have only got as far as taking the cellophane off Blush. When the kids go to school, I think it is time to make a start!

lol@justaminute, being too knackered to get to the kitchen

Hope you all have a lovely day

thedogwalker · 06/04/2011 08:26

Karma I instantly thought your calorie intake is far too low when I read your message and even now 1200 calories seems too low to be able to sustain. Where have you got that amount from, it is awfully low. Take us through how you worked out 1200 calories and we'll all see if it is the right amount for you. Don't want you to be hungry otherwise you will just give in, need to make sure you are on a plan that can and will work for you.

Justamin at least you've come back, forget the chocolate, its had its time and get back in the zone.

take care all xx

knottyhair · 06/04/2011 09:16

Karma, don't know if this is helpful, but I've dropped down to 1166 (weird amount but that's what the tracker gave me!), just for this week, as I've had friends to stay last weekend and I'm out for a blowout meal tonight! If I tell you what I ate yesterday, staying within my allowance, it might help? I had 30g cereal with skimmed milk for breakfast, beef & vegetable soup (pouch from Waitrose) and 1 small banana for lunch, afternoon snacks I had 1 chocolate digestive, 20g salt & vinegar twists (crispy things!), got peckish whilst cooking DS's tea so had 1 ryvita with veg pate & tomatoes, dinner later was shepherdess pie, 1 orange, and half a chocolate marzipan bar. As you can see, I like to graze! But this was all just about within my allowance, although I walked into town fairly briskly as well which took 25 mins and I logged that under Fitness - no other exercise yesterday. I find if I have soup or something for lunch at around 150-200 cals, and a main meal of around 400-450 cals (BBC GF site good for inspiration), then I can still pick a bit, as long as I am sensible and log EVERYTHING. I hope you don't think I'm banging on (although I do Grin!) but I just know that if you don't use the calories wisely, it's easy to go hungry and then it gets dodgy IYKWIM. Anyhoo, I'll shut up now and do half an hour of BFBM!

fedupofnamechanging · 06/04/2011 10:03

thedogwalker I got the 1200 calories from one of the sites that works out for you how many calories you need to maintain your current weight. Mine came out at 1765 (ish), so I dropped 500 so I would lose weight. I am 5ft2, and started at 12 stone. I am also quite unfit at the moment, so not used to doing a lot of exercise, although I am working on that with the cross trainer. Trying to build some stamina.

knottyhair usually I have an egg and ryvitas for breakfast, about 300 calories for lunch, 400 for dinner (I have been cooking some of the recipes from the bbc food site) and I allow 100 calories for the sugars in my coffee, which allows me 200 for snacks, like a yoghurt, a looly or a choc bar.

Am really not sure what happened yesterday, I was just sooo hungry.

Today, I am making a soup, with chicken, sweet potato, carrots, leeks and stock (and chillies), which is filling but has no cream or anything in. Have had go ahead bar for breakfast, which is not ideal, but DH has nicked all the eggs and yoghurt so I need to go shopping.

All help is gratefully received, because i really do not know what i am doing

fedupofnamechanging · 06/04/2011 10:04

I've no idea what a looly is, I meant lolly Grin

knottyhair · 06/04/2011 10:17

Karma, the examples you gave in your last post seem fine (soup sounds lovely!). It was only that yesterday you said you'd used all your calories up and had mainly ryvitas & soup - I guess the Crunchie has a lot to answer for! Sounds like you're doing fine. Hope you get around to shredding today Smile. I've just done 4 circuits of BFBM, got to have a shower, roast some rhubarb (!), then get out in the garden and try to transplant my tomato seedlings without killing them. Then off to London later to stuff my face have a lovely Mastercheffy meal!

Shaxx · 06/04/2011 10:38

Hi everyone.
TDW when do I find the time to exercise? Well, I'm not packing Grin
Its probably hard for you but take 20mins a day at least if you can, just go for a brisk walk to get some exercise and clear your head of packing stress!
I was going to go to the gym yesterday but I was really tired and just had an early night. Hopefully will go tonight.

JAM come back! You know we're nice Smile

Thinbride - Go Shred!!! Think of your gorgeous, sexy dress and your husband, family and friends thinking 'Wow' when you make that entrance....Grin

Knotty hope you have a great time tonight! Will you be seeing people who haven't seen you for a while who'll notice your weight loss?

Karma I'm guessing its the salami and crunchie that upped your calories.
I'm doing 1200cals a day too and usually, with good planning, I'm not hungry at all.

I'll give you examples of what I have
breakfasts
yoghurt, banana (220 cals)
Quorn sausages, mushrooms, tomato in fry light (160 cals)
2 weetabix, yoghurt (250 cals)
1 egg omelette with mushrooms and peppers (100 cals)

Lunch is usually Soup (upto 200 cals) and ryvita or just a filling lentil based soup
or salad with 1/2 can tuna and lots of leaves (100cals)
pitta bread with salad and cottage cheese/chicken/low fat humous (250 cals)

Dinner is usually something from the bbcgoodfood website for around 300-400 cals.

That still leaves me with enough cals for a cappuccino, fruit, yoghurt and a 100cal treat for snacks.
HTH!

Shaxx · 06/04/2011 10:40

Karma I'm 5'2" too so unfortunately, we do get less Sad
But thats obviously because we need less. Grr.

knottyhair · 06/04/2011 10:53

Shaxx, hope you get to go to the gym tonight. I'm going out with my lovely friend who I last saw at end of Feb, so not sure if there'll be an obvious difference in me, but I don't mind, I know there is Grin! I shall think of you at the gym whilst I'm trying to get a glimpse of Dhruv in the kitchen Smile. DS is Masterchef-mad, and wants to me to tell him if I get to speak to him - unlikely. And if I do, I shall probably be too tongue-tied and just laugh too much and too loudly like I usually do Blush.

Shaxx · 06/04/2011 10:58

Thats so exciting Knotty. And your generosity obviously has no limits. Thinking of me sweating it out in the gym, while you enjoy a stunning 3 course meal in lovely company Grin
Enjoy!

Off to do some cleaning. House is a tip!

thinbridewaitingtogetout · 06/04/2011 11:30

Ok the trainers are ordered and as with any luck tomorrow i will be signed up for the race for life on the 15th May! (depends on if i get a place in the car going), so 6 weeks to get semi fit so im not crawling across the finnish line.

Knotty i hope you have a nice time tonight and well done on getting into your sisters dress, you must be so chuffed. I wont say im not jealous that you will be tucking into a lovely 3 course meal and im going to be eating a poxy salad!

I have had a scambled egg on a ryvita for breakfast
had some grapes and a small bowl of fresh pineapple as a snack
HM veg and lentil soup for lunch
chicken and pasta salad i think for dinner.

knottyhair · 06/04/2011 11:47

Thinbride, sounds like a nice meal plan for the day Smile. Am slightly concerned, as my friend has just e-mailed to say there are six courses tonight and I'm not sure if she's joking or not Shock.
