knottyhair · 28/01/2011 09:48

Hi MmeLindt! Dinky, I don't think half a pound is too much to worry about. It could be down to any number of factors, and your plan for today sounds great, and very tasty!

Well. I'm a bit gobsmacked. I've lost 5.75lbs in a week! Obviously I'm pleased, but also it feels like a bit too much to be sustainable. I bought new scales last weekend which are more accurate, but I weighed myself on Sat when I got them, and they gave the same reading so I think it's accurate. Good luck everyone.

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 09:49

Sorry, xposted justaminute. I know it's a cliche, but you haven't put any weight on so well done. Have you tried any of tracking type thingies online? It's really helped me out, otherwise I'd be useless.

Guitargirl · 28/01/2011 10:07

Knottyhair - wow, that's amazing! Tell us - what have you been doing? Share your tips!

It's hard isn't in when the scales stay the same or go up a bit. I often have to kick myself not to biff at that point. But could be anything - water, plateauing if you've been losing for ages.

I weighed in at 3.5 pounds down this morning (since Monday). But I have a LOT to lose and it's always easier at the start.

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 10:13

Well done Guitargirl! Doesn't sound like you need any tips! I've just been using www.livestrong.com/myplate, and inputting everything I eat, everything I do exercise/activity-wise, and trying make sure I stay within my limit. I have been under on a few days with calories left over which maybe why it's a big loss this week. I was too scared to believe I had calories left! I think there are other sites that are similar.

dinkystinky · 28/01/2011 10:37

Well done Knottyhair - you've been zoning hard and staying within your calorie allowance so that's a great result, well earned!

dinkystinky · 28/01/2011 10:38

And well done guitargirl too - great stuff!

Justaminute - keep the faith! You're due a great loss to kick off February so keep on zoning.

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 10:55

Thanks Dinky Smile.

iluvcake · 28/01/2011 10:57

Welcome back MmeLindt!

Well done guitargirl and knottyShock-that's incredible!!

justaminute, I know it's disappointing but stay with it-it will shift. I've had about a month of sts, you'll get there.

dinky, 0.5lb is a tiny gain-you'll lose that so quickly when you get back to the exercise.

I have a 2lb loss this week. Am surpised but very pleased. After my crap weekend I got my act together and upped the exercise but because of my neck have not done anything since tues night so it's a good result for me-have not been this weight for about five years!

Shaxx · 28/01/2011 10:58

Well done Knotty and guitar girl! Excellent work Grin

Dinky you'll lose that in a couple of days, I'm sure Smile

Justaminute don't worry. At least you didn't put weight on. I know its not really much consolation but I know if I wasn't posting here I could easily have had loads of days biffing and prob put weight on.
Just really go for it in Feb and choose nice interesting recipes for dinner so you have something to look forward to and keep you on track.

I have a boring sts. I have lost 3.5lbs in Jan! Its rubbish. I was hoping for double that.
I need to up my game.

I have a wedding tomorrow and a birthday party on Sun so I'll have to wait til Mon to restart my super-duper-lose-7lbs-in-Feb diet.

My plan is to carry on sticking to 1200 cals but no carbs with evening meal and exercise 3x a week.

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 11:03

Well done iluvcake! And Shaxx, enjoy your weekend plans, and you'll get back to it on Monday. Like justaminute, you haven't put anything on. Not sure how far down the line you are, but isn't "plateauing" quite common?

Shaxx · 28/01/2011 11:18

Plateauing is common but in my case its been some extra biffing and no exercise for the past couple of weeks due to illness and then not being able to get back into it for whatever reason.
I just need to be stricter really.
I'm 153lbs. I weigh in lbs now as its easier for my phone app.
Think its just under 11stone so I should be losing loads.
I'm kicking myself for not losing enough for the wedding. I wanted to look nice. Sob.

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 11:24

Oh love, please don't beat yourself up! It's hard, especially when you're ill - you can't exercise much, and you need comfort! You'll get there, and I'll say it again, you haven't put any on. I'm 152lbs - I don't know your height but I'm only 5ft 4 so it's really not doing me any favours! And I bet you'll look beautiful for the wedding.

Shaxx · 28/01/2011 11:25

Bah! I've just gone onto that Livestrong site and its told me that to lose 2lbs a week, I need 1116 cals a day (I'm 5'2")
No wonder my loss is so slow.

Shaxx · 28/01/2011 11:26

Ah thanks Knotty Smile
I'm sure I'll enjoy it regardless.

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 11:32

Shaxx, you could try 1lb a week. That's what I put in, and where I've been a bit under, it's obviously been more this week. But there's something psychologically better (for me anyway) about being told you've eaten less than you're allowed! And 1lb a week is still losing weight. Also don't forget you can input all your activity, not just exercise but even things like a "brisk walk"! If I walk as fast as I can without breaking into a run, when I walk to the shops or doctors or whatever, even just 10 mins, is 70 cals. I know it's only an estimate, but it does make you move faster, knowing it all counts!

Shaxx · 28/01/2011 11:43

Yes, you're right of course but my youngest is now 3 so I just think I should really be going for it now and losing all the baby weight.
From Mon, I'll try for 1100 cals and see how it goes. I know it will take a lot of planning but my books have loads of recipes that are under 400cals so theoretically, its perfectly doable.
I just need to put the work in Smile

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 11:55

Good luck, and post some of those recipes if you can!

MmeLindt · 28/01/2011 12:08

oh, I forgot how fast moving this thread it.

dinkystinky · 28/01/2011 12:18

Honestly Shaxx, losing weight at 1lb a week is much more sustainable in the long run (and less likely to send you screaming for the biscuit tin on a bad day). Enjoy the wedding this weekend.

Have no idea how much I am in lbs but am 5 foot 4.5 and am 10 stone 6lbs. Seem to perpetually be bouncing around trying to lose the last 1/2 stone I want to. But at least it means I get to hang out with you lovely ladies Smile

Buda · 28/01/2011 12:29

Hi all.

MmmeLindt - welcome back!!!

Well I DID brave the scales and am down a pound! Can't quite believe it.

Of course then I went to a coffee morning, arrived starving and had a pastry! Duh!

I am contemplating trying the new WW plan if i can do it on line. If not I may try Jillian. Yikes. Will have a ponder. I think I need something new. And some rules.

Shaxx · 28/01/2011 12:30

I've just checked that livestrong site for losing 1lb a week instead and its telling me 1600 cals! that sounds like loads to me.
I can't believe I'd lose a lb a week on that much. I'm sure I'd maintain.

I've binned that vile canned soup from yesterday and have the red lentil and chickpea soup on the go at the moment. I'm sure it will taste a million times better!

I'll post any amazing recipes I come across too Smile

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 12:42

Shaxx, it's probably right. You're a bit shorter than me, and I've got 1487 as my limit. Don't forget that's your net calories as well, so when you input exercise/activity it will go up. Why not try it and see? If it seems a lot, you don't have to have the whole 1600. Hope you enjoy the soup!

knottyhair · 28/01/2011 12:46

Buda, well done!

Shaxx · 28/01/2011 13:26

Buda sorry I didn't see your post. Well done!

Knotty is 1487 for 2lbs a week or 1?

That soup was really nice and filling btw.
