Hi everyone,
I've been lurking in the background but I'm thinking of joining WW online.
I thought I'd try and be fairly good today but i'm due my monthlys so proberly not the best time to start as I need sweet stuff.
I've been to classes before but due to changing my working hours I can't get to a class near me.
Has anyone had success doing it this way or do I really need to make the effort to get to a class. Also how do you cope with the sweet cravings???

NormaSknockers · 17/01/2011 20:26

Just a real quickie, 3lb off this week - woo-Hoo! Lost my gain & another 1.5lb on top

Grin

Night all, catch up properly tomorrow :)

Evening ladies - first weigh in since starting last week and I lost 5.5lb. Well pleased. So pleased I don't want to have my treat!!!!

TartyMcFarty · 17/01/2011 20:51

DB - watch the porridge. In the book it says 1pp per 30g portion, nut when I calculated using the nutrition info on Sainsbury's own, it was 5pp for a 50g portion made with water. That would make 30g 3pp, iyswim. Just a thought.

TartyMcFarty · 17/01/2011 20:59

There you go Norma, well done for sticking with it.

And as for sparkle well Envy sums it up. Well done you!

I am ravenous today and could eat t least another four slices of the Christmas cake sat in the cupboard. Might well be because I'm starting my first period since DD was born, nearly 11 mths ago. As I have PCOS this is a good thing for me! I'm putting it down to my pre-Christmas weight loss - it's a really good incentive for me to eat carefully and exercise lots Smile

DuplicitousBitch · 17/01/2011 21:03

hi tarty believe me i am puritanical. my 40g of porridge is 4 points and then another point for some milk

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/01/2011 21:14

Well done sparkle and Norma - fab weight loss's

androbbob · 17/01/2011 21:17

Popping in to mark my place - busy bee today!

Well done norma and sparkle on your weight losses - tis fab!

Hoping for a loss this week myself after a gain last week - head in the right place at the moment - just need to be active!

Office move at end of this week - from central location with access to shops, butty shops and supermarkets to a location closer to home but with nothing within walking distance! Could be the making or breaking of me as it has a vending machine (we have one now but have better options!). Will need to be organised to make sure have my lunch with me and leave cash at home!!

Back tomorrow! Keep up the good work ladies - its ages until the summer!! Grin

LeeWT · 17/01/2011 21:26

Well done Norma and sparkle!!! That's how to do
it!!!

androbbob it could be the making of you.. It's like me having to spend all this time in the hospital this past month, the first week I ate loads of crap that wasn't even nice and then I revolted & decided to bring a
packed lunch complete with ww biscuits and wotsits to let me survive the whole day.. If you cant get to anywhere it'll keep you on the straight and narrow..

Good luck everyone with weigh ins over the next couple days... :-)

Littlefish · 17/01/2011 21:36

Well done to all the losers, welcome to the new ladies and solidarity with those who haven't lost.

I've been so, so, so good this week (apart from Sunday lunch) and have stayed within my daily and weekly points. However, I did a sneaky home weigh yesterday and don't seem to have lost anything. Sad.

My period arrived today. Does anyone else find that it makes them retain weight/put on? How long does it usually take you to go back to normal?

Androbbob - I take homemade soup and bread for lunch to work most days. It means that I'm not tempted to snack!

gibbberish · 17/01/2011 21:54

Hi anyoneforpimms I do the monthly payment thing and also have access to the site.

have only been doing this foe a week but I am so, so glad I signed up to use the website as it is just brilliant for tracking your weight, pps, exercise and measurements.

If you really can't get to a class would def recommend joining online.

norma and sparkle well done!! That's absolutely fantastic!

gibbberish · 17/01/2011 22:01

Foe??? For!

DuplicitousBitch · 17/01/2011 22:01

sparkles norma well done!

dyzzidi · 17/01/2011 22:13

Wel i braved my first weigh in tonight and have managed to lose 4.5 lb. Woo hooo

I am so pleased!!!

well done to everyone else who has lost.

hmc · 17/01/2011 22:30

Well done all you losers! Wink - that's StarvinMarvin, Dyzzidi, Sparkle, Lobsters and Norma (brilliant Norma!)...

Sorry Bluebump and Duplicitous that you didn't get the results you were hoping for - Duplicitous I notice you only ate 5 of your 49 weekly pps? - that might be the problem? - our leader tells us that the best losers are those people who track carefully and eat all their daily and weekly allowance. I only lost 1.5lbs in my first WW week and oddly enough have lost consistently more each week since then (usually 2-3lbs)- so not everyone gets a big number in week 1.

Blondes glad that you and the dcs are back home safe and sound now...

Littlefish - yes my period completely affects my weight, so perhaps that is going on with you? My period started the day after my weigh day last week, and had I attended WW on the Thursday night rather than on the Wednesday night I would have lost 4lb and not 2lb! - I retain fluid a few days before and drop the fluid within 24 hours of coming on.

My tip for the day - made some bolognese today and reduced the pp substantially by using 70% lean minced beef to 30% soya mince (significantly fewer pp in soya mince) - and it didn't compromise the taste at all. Will deffo be doing that again.

Also started on my Covent Garden 365 soup recipes book (it's lovely), did level 2 shred and 15 minutes cardio on my exercise bike. Feeling quite good - but have been overdoing the points a bit and slightly mistracking Blush - hope I get away with it at this weeks weigh in

hmc · 17/01/2011 22:35

P.S. one of the trainers on the Biggest Loser was chiding a couple of contestants for under eating because apparently if you eat too few calories your body will cling on to fat as a protective mechanism but will digest muscle instead !?! - so perhaps thats why ww leaders sometimes tell us off for not eating all our points

Milliways · 17/01/2011 22:38

Hello!

I am considering WW, either online or finding a group.

Apart from the meeting fee, how much are the books/calculators etc? I see some packs on ebay - are they worth it or does this come with your membership? (The eating out & shopping guides look useful).

Thanks for any assistance :)

Littlefish · 17/01/2011 22:39

hmc that's interesting about you losing weight again within 24hours of your period starting. There's still a chance I might lose something at weigh in tomorrow then

I really did think I would lose weight this week, and hope my period hasn't scuppered that.

I'd also heard about the not-eating-enough thing too.

LuckyLight · 17/01/2011 22:44

Blimey, just took me about half hour to catch up since this morning!!

LeeWT well done on having such good will power at such a tough time. Must be v hard with your baby in/out of hospital. Good for you for taking packed lunches in. Keep it up!

vnmum Your night (of vomit) sounds horrendous. It's the one thing I really hate, as you wanna comfort child but also really need to clean up the sick ASAP before it really starts to smell! I'm not suprised you ate so much crap, that was a lot to deal with. Well done for getting back on track.

sweetheart Glad your physio went well, we're a nice bunch really Smile. Great news that you can get cycling too.

Sho Wii fit board fixed???

Blondes I Love your 'whoops hit caps' moments!!! Hope car all sorted, glad you didn't have to wait too long.

littlefish I always stay same or put on the week of my period. Usually just that week then back to normal.

DB I feel your pain. How very very frustrating. I would agree with the others, although very annoying, don't give up, and in theory you should have a really good loss next week.

I took my crappy asda porridge into work for a colleague and decided to just use oats and bit of honey. 30g oats = 3 pps, 100mls skimmed milk = 1 pps, and bit of honey = 1 pps. Total 5 pps. Bargain.

sparkles ans Norma well done on good losses!!! And anyone else who i have forgotten.

Sorry, I can't scroll back thru the pages to see who said about it being harder to lose weight of you are fitter/ not as overweight. I agree. I am def struggling now I am nearly there. Keeping going though. Determined!

Started the SHRED tonight too with starvinmarvin (not actually together!).
I did a 10 min spin to warm up. Managed it OK, feel OK at the mo but will see how I feel tomorrow. I certainly didn't sweat anywhere near as much as spinning, but I realise it's toning.

I have my official WW WI tomorrow. Not for androbobbs stats as I use my home sat WI for that, but I'm hoping for something a bit better than half a lb. However, scales at home suggest I will stay the same (Dammit!)

Will report in tomorrow, and let you know how legs/bum feel after shred. I loved the fact it was only 20 mins and over so quickly!

Lucky XXX

hmc · 17/01/2011 22:48

Lucky - you are pretty fit from all your previous exercise so might not notice much, but if you do feel it anywhere it will probably be in the gluteal muscles and thighs etc due to all those darn squats

LuckyLight · 17/01/2011 22:49

think it was sweetheart who said about new research about the exercise of 30 secs full on then 30 secs rest repeated x 4, and yes, it's big news in the fitness industry. Personally, although it sounds to good to be true time wise, really, who wants to get all dressed for the gym and drive there for the sake of 4 mins Hmm!!!!

LuckyLight · 17/01/2011 22:51

hmc I also do a lot of squats at work as part of my job, demonstrating it to patients. If I'm doing a circuit with someone I usually join them in the exercise...as Tesco say....every little helps!!

gibbberish · 17/01/2011 22:52

Hi milliways. Don't know about the books as don't have them but I got the calculator in class for 9.95. It is very handy.

Hopefully someone else can let you know about the books Smile

LuckyLight · 17/01/2011 22:58

I think you could get by with just calculator, although eating out guide very useful.

LeeWT · 17/01/2011 23:07

Thanks lucky though despite my hard work my scales say no movement.. Also TOTM for me same as littlefish so that doesn't help..

Have been dipping into weekly points for couple lindor chocs each night and for my unpointable Sunday lunch at FILs and I can't help feeling that's better than blowing 20 points on a Chinese as it always leaves me bloated.. Not to say I won't again..

Can't remember who asked about the packs, books and calculator.. My recommendation would be to join up at a class even for a month get all the gumpf and find your way around the new system plus the motivation factor, then if you prefer you could keep going at home/with us.. If you haven't got an iPhone or itouch I would recommend the calculator BUT I would NOT recommend the books.. I had found out all the eating out stuff just from googling forums and as for the shopping guide well you can check anything you want and it's fairly sparse too..

Just my humble opinion tho! Good luck!
