My motivation is a wedding at the end of Feb. I have a slinky midnight blue maxi dress that will look knockout with waspish waist and Madonna-style arms, but not so good with jiggling, porridge-like love handles and droopy bingo wings.

The bride is young, trendy and fabulous. I am not.

herbaceous · 27/01/2011 15:22

I shall be investing in some precautionary Spanx, though, just in case!

hobbgoblin · 27/01/2011 15:26

I just forced myself to do day 6. Have been polyfilla-ing and painting most of the morning so nearly talked myself out of needing to.

Does anyone else's top lip area twitch when doing windmills and the like? i can't seem to control it and it makes me look and feel rather silly.

I think today was the easiest I've found it but did use the excuse of 'getting a sip of water' when I needed to wimp out on one of the lungey sections.

Very, very nearly able to do all the press ups but if I go longer my upper arm muscles feel liek they are tearing so think it is probably best not to push myself past that unless I want to wind up at the GP.

BalloonSlayer · 27/01/2011 15:44

I did do it!

Right after I posted I shook myself like a dawg and went up and got changed. I sometimes think it's all the faffing about getting ready that bothers me most [big fat lie]

It's getting easier and my ankles are feeling better. I think it was the jump rope that did for them so I am avoiding that.

herbaceous · 27/01/2011 16:01

I've done it too! Arms barely function. I really HATE all the plank stuff in level 2. And the blasted v raises. But rather love the skating move!

Thank the lord for translucent window film. I was there, read-faced, stripped down to my normal bra, with my fat belly bouncing over the top of my maternity leggings (still worn due to mean-ness, even though DS born 18 months ago).

southeastastra · 27/01/2011 16:45

i like the oblique twists but my stomach feels really weird when i do it

i cannot do the head move thing at the beginning at all, makes me feel sick

BalloonSlayer · 27/01/2011 16:55

I meant to say that I was pushing a toddler in a push chair up a hill today, thinking, oh this is tiring I'm going to get really breathless . . . but I didn't! I felt OK!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 27/01/2011 18:04

No shred for me either as I feel really really crap when I can't do any plank and end up waiting it out. Hmm
I know I need to but....oh I don't know - feeling a bit dispondent I guess.

Instead I did some Burn fat, boost metab. so I did do something. :)

flatmouse · 27/01/2011 18:08

It came! Am v excited but a little nervous!
Have got a little table of measurements prepped ready for before tomorrow morning.

Hobbgoblin weird lip thing happens to me too when I do various arm movements such as windmills!

Day 1 level 1 here I come (tomorrow)

MissMarjoribanks · 27/01/2011 21:03

Level 2, Day 4. I've been off a week due to feeling crap, other commitments and finally our DVD player dying. DH sorted it out today though so I shredded again.

Ouch. Shock I can really feel that not only have I not shredded for a week, but going back to work and sitting on my fat arse at a desk all day is also not helping.

I might start going for a walk at lunchtime. Where I work is stupidly hilly, so a 15 minute walk would get my heart rate right up.

Right off to die recover...

sighnomore · 27/01/2011 21:05

Am shamefully reading this thread whilst having a glass of wine tonight and no shredding Blush in my defence I've just had one of those days, work was crazy bed and bathtime crazier and I just need a night off and pull myself together tomorrow.

I have however shredded level 2 every day this week and as i was off work on tuesday also added in 30 mins on the exercise bike when the kids were in bed. Tomorrow I will shred and swim when DD is at her lesson and make up for today!

Still no weight loss (think I might have to do more with my diet rather than just cutting snacks which I thought would with the exercise would work) but am definitely getting stronger and can see definition in my arms and legs especially my thighs and calves. My tummy however is still a horrific blobbly mess, am sure I am working muscles under there somewhere but see when I am doind that skipping move especially it blobs uo and down and turns me! I am very bloated too wheich doesnt help.

Keep it up ladies, and good luck to those just starting I can't believe I am 14 days in!

flatmouse · 28/01/2011 09:15

Right - reporting back! Day 1 level 1 complete.
O M G.

If i'm honest, i seemed to find it easier as it progressed - as i got used to the level and intensity of the workout. (bearing in mind i was ready for a sit down after the warm up!)

Personal goal - improve on press-ups! The rest was a mix of green girl and red girl (but i'm not sure i really want to look like them as they are indeed very muscly).

Question - does anyone else feel their butt cheeks wobbling when they are doing the punches?

Arms a bit jellyish but hope to persevere.. onwards to day 2! (Measurements were all taken before - so i'd better loose some inches doing this!)

pagwatch · 28/01/2011 10:20

Day 4. Ouch.

Remind me when it gets easier?

But, did it at 8.30 and have been much more energetic this am than usual. And I fitted into a dress this am that I haven't worn because it felt too tight.
I am not putting it all din to shred - I have had only two glasses of fizz in the last eigth days and have cut out sugar/crap carbs.

But a good spur.

FreeButtonBee · 28/01/2011 10:24

I definitely feel slimmer and more pulled in after 3 days. Day 4 today.

What weights are you guys using? I have been using some metal candlesticks which weigh 0.6kg - which I think is prob a bit weedy. I have spotted some 1.3kg weights in TK Maxx - but that's double what I'm using now. Am scared!

FoundWanting · 28/01/2011 10:28

It didn't get easier for me until day 6/7.

Then you start level 2, and feel like you've never exercised before in your life. Grin

I've definitely lost inches and firmed up a bit, but still no weight loss. Can anyone recommend a good skin-firming lotion? My stomach is looking especially crepey. I tried a cocoa butter one but the smell was over-powering.

pagwatch · 28/01/2011 10:31
Grin

don't tell me that!

i recall reading soap and glory have a good one 'sit down' or something.

I use dermologica slim effect for my legs. everywhere else isn't too wobbly bad

Momentarynamechange · 28/01/2011 10:38

Hello you shredders, hope you don't mind me dropping in Smile

Bought the dvd and have been doing it on and off since 16th jan.
I'm on day 5 of level 2 today, and it really doesn't seem to be getting any easier!!

I do have a concern - to pick up on what flatmouse said, they do indeed look very muscly on the DVD. I really don't want to end up looking like that! (or even remotely like that).

Do you guys think the DVD will turn us into chunky monkeys (my quads are already looking quite, er, big, despite 10 mins of pilates stretching afterwards) or are those ladies likely to be doing a lot of other stuff to achieve those guns lol?

FoundWanting · 28/01/2011 10:49

I like Soap and Glory stuff, I'll have a look next time I'm in Boots. Thanks.

I think you'd have to be really driven to look like Natalie and Anita. I think they live in the gym. That's why they have such manic expressions. Making the DVD was the most interraction with other human beings any of them have had in the last 10 years.

southeastastra · 28/01/2011 10:51

i like natalie and anita - i think anits must have some martial arts experience as she just looks like she does Grin

notyummy · 28/01/2011 10:52

Free - I think the ladies in the DVD use 3kg, but most on this thread use 1.5/2kg maybe? I use 3kg except for v raises where I have to drop down! I have been circuit training for a while though.

FreeButtonBee · 28/01/2011 11:09

okay, so I am being a wimp. Will purchase bigger weights and prepare for the pain!

LostGirl · 28/01/2011 11:58

threestepsforward You don't get physiques like Anita's and Natalie's by doing 20 minutes a day and lifting 3kg weights. To be as strong as they are I imagine they are weight training regularly and the muscle definition they have has a lot to do with low body fat percentage which is mainly down to diet. Muscle is so hard to build, especially for women and if you ever get to the point where you think you have too much muscle (this won't happen just by doing the shred) then you change your training to either maintain what you have, or changing your diet will have your body burning muscle rather than fat in no time and it would soon disappear, it is far easier to lose muscle than it is to lose fat.
Try measuring your thighs for reassurance, they are probably no larger than they were before so the tape measure may give you some peace of mind.

herbaceous · 28/01/2011 12:17

I use 1kg for anything involving shoulders, and 1.5 (I think) for everything else. Though may have to get some heavier ones for biceps.

As for muscliness, I wouldn't mind looking like them! But I'm sure they do other stuff aswell as the shred - they look like they lift a lot of heavier weights to gain that sort of muscle definition.

LostGirl · 28/01/2011 12:38

The shred is really not a strength training programme, it is a metabolic routine based on strength moves designed to get your heart rate up and make your body burn fat, not muscle, which is what long steady state cardio does, your body starts burning muscle for fuel rather than far. I did the shred last year and then began weight training three times a week, the weight I lift depending on the exercise, number of reps etc but at the moment is anything up to 80kg. I am smaller than I have ever been, do not look muscley but I guess my limbs look more shapely and I have some definition in my shoulders, abs and back. Just trying to offer reassurance to those worried that trying heavier weights will make you bulk up.

southeastastra · 28/01/2011 12:40

how can it help my jelly belly? two weeks in and no difference there. also same weight
