I found doing it on Day 2 was OK, hob. It sort of freed the muscles up a bit. Until the next morning that is.

FWIW I looked in the mirror at my naked self this morning and I liked what I saw.

< faints >

(Apart from my head that is)

DottyDot · 21/01/2011 09:29

Is it usual not to be able to complete the 3rd circuit on day 1, level 1?? Blush

And what happens after the 3rd circuit (assuming I ever make it...)?

hobbgoblin · 21/01/2011 09:35

BallonSlayer, what are you going to do about your head? lol Cleo? I thunk I might go for a Croydon face lift.

I managed to convince myself last night that my tummy flub was less pronounced - as if the muscles had been reminded they were there.

I was wondering whether re-exercising the same muscles might actually help a bit. It's just walking down the stairs sideways that is problematic today. I tried to move a drawer from my chest of drawers this morning and dropped it and broke it because my arms said no.

notyummy · 21/01/2011 09:45

Hobb- I would give it a go. It will hurt until you gave warmed up, but you may find it eases off then.

Dotty- I am sure there are other people in the same boat!! If you get to that point again, why not stop, have a drink and pause the DVD. Walk round the room briskly for 2 mins and then continue.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/01/2011 11:24

Glad everyone is soldiering on! :)
I certainly am - this is the longest I have lasted with a workout DVD and I am going to do the full 30 days!
I think it's because it's only 20 mins I can actually quickly fit it in without much disruption.

I wanted to ask another probably stupid question - in certain positions or when I am doing certain things, I catch sight of my arms and there is a muscle showing Shock :) but... my arm is also still on the chubby side (at the top) - am I going to get muscly chubby arms or will the chub go away leaving a toned arm?

I also need to add that a decent pair of trainers (I put DHs Nike Airs on today instead of my Airwalks) really helps the old knees - no pain whilst doing it today and only a slight buzzing afterwards in the right knee. :)

Well done everyone. :)

FoundWanting · 21/01/2011 11:52

Day 7, level 1 done.

I did a whole set of press-ups like Natalie . Tried the second set, but no chance!

It really does get (marginally) easier although I didn't believe Killian when she said it. Grin

Joby1970 · 21/01/2011 11:54

if you continue to do the shred & poss a little more cardio & eat healthily then the "chub" over the muscles will fade away.

do the 2nd day even if you ache - you will "unfreeze" & you'll feel even more euphoric afterwards.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/01/2011 12:35

Thanks. :)

I hoped it might, thought cardio might be the answer.

LostGirl · 21/01/2011 13:00

Ladyoftheflowers don't fear, you will definitely not get muscly chubby arms, the muscle is showing because some of the fat has gone from around it Smile. The shred is a 'cardio' metabolic type workout based on high rep strength moves with light weights. At the end of the day, if you want your body to burn fat than it is mainly down to your diet.

LostGirl · 21/01/2011 13:04

then not than Blush

LostGirl · 21/01/2011 13:08

That even, not than, not then, that is mainly down to your diet Blush. Sorry, I seem to have become illiterate. Oh, and by 'diet' I just mean clean eating, not a low calorie, low fat, no carb type of crash diet.

IShallWearMidnight · 21/01/2011 13:34

sneaked upstairs yesterday evening ot have some chocolate from the secret stash (hmm, maybe the secret stash might explain why I need Jillian to shout at me Wink) and by mistake got changed into workout clothes instead. So I had to do Day 3 Level 1 as by then the DDs had seen me and wouldn't let me weasel out.

And [drum roll] I survived day 3 without dripping in sweat and being unable to talk for an hour or so afterwards. Only using 500ml bottles of water though as weights, and doing an even cheatier than Anita style of press up as I have no arm muscles whatsoever. Can't say that I've noticed a change in body shape (which you promised Jillian), but I'm certainly fitter than i was on Monday.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/01/2011 13:38

:) No, indeed not fad or crash diets here - been there, got the crappy t-shirts!

I am eating healthily, cut out all crap (I could eat Wotsits and Galaxy like there was no tomorrow of an evening) and am shredding, stepping, walking and going to try some pilates for my core when the DVD comes.

Some fat must have gone from my arm you say.... :o

LostGirl · 21/01/2011 13:43

Definitely Grin . You get muscle definition by lowering your body fat, so you will start noticing the changes in the places where your body stores the least amount of fat. For me it was my shoulders and back. On the other shred thread I compared fat loss to the snow, the thin layers disappear really quickly revealing what was covered up, but the huge drifts stick around for ages and take forever to melt away! My thighs are my snow drifts Grin

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/01/2011 13:47

:o

I have a fat back then.... Shock

Arms look better, lower thighs look great - have saddlebags ruining the top (4ft drifts have settle there) - and tummy is shrinking which at the mo means it looks worse. Hmm

Waist is coming right in which I am not that excited about but DH is. Hmm

LostGirl · 21/01/2011 13:53

I know what you mean about your stomach looking worse, when mine started to flatten out the top looked really nice and flat and somehow made the bottom crinkly bit look even bigger Hmm

LostGirl · 21/01/2011 13:53

Sounds like you are making great progress though, how far through are you?

BalloonSlayer · 21/01/2011 16:02

Woo Hoo!

Level 2 Day 2.

I must be doing the plank things wrong because I don't find them too bad. I shall have to ask DH to watch me and tell me if it looks ok. He'll almost certainly be happy to do that Hmm

hob no ideas what to do about my head other than a paper bag. Sad

I have a "do" to go to this weekend, and a nice dress to wear. I think I might prefer to be naked with something artfully covering my face. And it would create a sensation... Grin

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/01/2011 16:13

LostGirl - I am on day 17 L1 as I have no core strength whatsoever. Hmm

Since the start I have been watching my eating too.

Tell me about you - what sort of size were you when you started? I am guessing you are quite into keeping fit?

:)

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/01/2011 16:14

Also - for got to ask - what happened to your crinkly bit in the end?

LostGirl · 21/01/2011 18:25

Crinkly bit is still there and always will be as it is just stretched skin so only a tummy tuck would get rid of it. However, it is not as bad as it was and the rest of my stomach is pretty toned now and I have noticed the crinkly bit seems to look better the more water I drink, when I am dehydrated it looks much worse. I did the shred this time last year and was a size 16. I now do three weight training sessions a week, and either walk, do a 10 minute yoga session or if I am feeling particularly keen then some sort of short circuit session with just body weight exercises (that doesn't happen often!). I am now a size 10 and have maintained that for the last 6 months.

Don't let your lack of core strength put you off doing level 2. The only way to get better at the plank and exercises in that position is to do the plank. The first few times you do it you may well have to drop down on your knees and rest for a few seconds several times throughout each exercise but your strength will quickly improve. Most trainers at the moment seem to be moving away from doing any abdominal exercises that involve spinal flexion and concentrating more on exercises such as the plank and variations of (I currently have to do a plank with my feet on swiss air ball), or exercises where you strengthen your core by resisting rotation.

herbaceous · 21/01/2011 19:26

I've had two days off shredding - yesterday, when I did romantic day out (inc lunch), and today when I met some people for lunch (pizza). I am about to have a curry. And I feel VERY GUILTY. Sorry Jillian. I've let you down...

hormonalmum · 21/01/2011 21:44

Argh, had an enforced day off today and feel guilty.
Couldn't find the time and now I have my pj's on ready for bed

kkey21 · 21/01/2011 21:48

Day 13 done (3rd day of level 2)

my hard work is paying off as my abs area looks smaller! Shame about my arse!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/01/2011 21:50

Very inspiring that you are a 10 now. :)

How long did it take?
