Hey! Just did Day 1, Level 1. & I am in the UK, so it was a crazy time to do it. I'm checking in here because I'll feel obliged to carry on if I've publicly committed myself to it. I didn't think that I was that unfit (I knew it was bad, but I walk a fair bit), but I did it without any weights & I still feel sick & a bit wobbly. I can't imagine ever being able to do it easily, never mind move on to the next level! I'm pretending that level 3 doesn't exist right now. Yuck.

MyBrilliantCareer · 16/01/2011 02:50

llynnn and foundwanting - totally normal. Keep going and it will get better after another day or two x

belindarose · 16/01/2011 07:24

I've got to do day 2 level 1 in a few minutes when DD has finished feeding. Found yesterday really good and could keep up with most of it but can feel it today! Bit worried by those of you who said it's worse after day 2 as I've got two days of training In my new job mon and tue and it will be very physical. Oh well, I can cope with looking a fool! Hip coped really well with ibuprofen first although I don't want to use that every day. I did extra stretches through Jillian's waffle at the beginning and for longer at the end.

llynnnn · 16/01/2011 07:56

Ouch! Glad its normal to hurt and reassuring it will stop hurting soon (i'm holding you to that mybrilliantcareer Wink )
Belindarose- hope u got on ok with day 2 and can still do your training ok tomorrow.
Foundwanting - I feel your pain! We are in it together!

Ingles2 · 16/01/2011 09:41

morning...
god my arms and chest are aching. I can even feel it in my thighs..
Will try day 2 shortly..when I can kick the dc off the tv.

notyummy · 16/01/2011 11:28

Hi all

Just done level 3 and a 20 cross trainer programme. Worse bits for level 3 for me are def the jumping lunges and the wide armed press-ups.

Ingles - I am a runner too, probably about the same mileage as you, and I combine it with circuit training (either i shred, or 2 back-to-back, or Burn Fat/Boost Metabolism.) Before I joined the cult of Jillian I did quite a lot of Billy Blanks Bootcamp stuff, and Matt Roberts, so i wasn't starting 'cold' IFSWIM. I also do pilates and yoga to try and balance the high impact stuff. So in answer to your query about mixing it with running, I would say yes....but I only shred 1/2 times a week as a fitness thing, rather than weight loss. Typical week:

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Gym at work. 3 miles fast/efforts session on treadmill, plus 25 mins bike or rower.
Wednesday: Shred or Burn Fat/Boost metabolism.
Thursday: 7/8 miles run
Friday: 50 minutes either Yoga or pilates
Saturday: Either rest or short circuits session (Shred?)
Sunday: 5 mile run.

MyBrilliantCareer · 16/01/2011 12:03

I found the trick is to keep shredding through the pain - it goes more quickly that way.

llynnnn I actually couldn't turn over in bed around days 2/3...

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 16/01/2011 12:08

AFTERNOON ALL!!!!

ingles I do the shred in the dining room on the laptop, the TV is the babysitter!

belinda if you are going to take ibroprofen i think it's best to take it on full stomach. Good idea to do extra stretches at the end (jury is still out whether static stretches at beginning useful in any workout)

llynnnn it will stop hurting and at some point you will start enjoying it!

Menagerie that doesn't sound normal and sounds very much like diastasis recti - have you had kids? Did your MW or HV check your stomach muscles afterwards?

KangarooCaught I would really NOT do the Shred if you have a knee problem. Sorry but it is very high impact and knee intensive with strength moves like squats and lunges.

Level 2 day 2 (day off yesterday!), went well even tho whoever said Level 2 wasn't abs/shoulders I disagree BIGTIME! No idea of weightloss as not weighing myself but my jeans are feeling a little looser but that might just be wishful thinking :) Off for run tonight.

RespectTheDoughnut · 16/01/2011 12:52

Actually, I have a question about the abs - when she says that you should be using your abs to pull yourself up, not using your neck, how? I can't control my abs. I know that's part of the point Grin, but I don't know how to improve them, because I don't know how to do it properly?

falsemessageoflethargy · 16/01/2011 13:05

you have to imagine yourself sucking them in respect - ie sucking your belly button into your spine like you are doing up a particularly tight pair of jeans - and your pelvic floor as well if you can.

Once your core is stronger then you'll feel it doing lots of the work that other parts of the body are having to compensate for.

Saying all this I am very demotivated at the moment and subsequently a bit down. Going out this afternoon but must do a level 2 tonight - agree Libra - its all about the shoulders/arms.

MyBrilliantCareer · 16/01/2011 13:20

falsemessage you can do it! You'll feel great afterwards [preparing you mentally for tonight]

Smile
Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 16/01/2011 13:30

respect lie on the floor and tense your stomach muscles , those are what you should be using to try and lift your shoulders off the ground, your back should be pressing into the ground. It doesnt have to be a big movement. You may find it easier if you cross your hands over your chest so you don't end up pulling on your neck.

false why are you feeling demotivated?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 16/01/2011 13:34

I use my stomach (can feel it at the time though the muscles don't ache anymore afterwards - is that right? Confused ) and keep my eyes on the ceiling (sp?), push my throat up like she says, but still my neck gets all tight so I sometimes have to miss one to 'release' my neck muscles.

With the reverse crunches I have found a tiny movement and really concentrating on coming down slowly really hurts.... :)

Avocadoes · 16/01/2011 13:53

Hi everyone

I have just done Day 1, Level 1. I found it hard but not as bad as a 20 minute run which is what I tried yesterday. However, I may eat those words if I ache tomorrow.

Can I ask a v embarrassing question? Do others find that their pelvic floor really struggles with the jumping jacks and skipping jumps? Mine was so bad I had to do punches for the last jumping round. I knew my pelvic floor had passed it's peak after 2 10lb babies but it's never been so unreliable before. I can jog and sneeze without problems. I am so upset by this that it may stop me shredding.

FoundWanting · 16/01/2011 14:12

Ooh, lots of new people. I don't feel quite so out of my depth. Grin

Just done day 3, level 1 and I ache all over. Even brushing my hair was hard work.

Are any of you dieting too? I'm just trying to cut down a bit at the moment but is that enough to get noticeable results?

susall · 16/01/2011 15:24

Just Killianed myself on level 2 for the 2nd day and was able to do more this time round but boy do my legs hurt after yesterdays effort.
Avacadoes I promise it does get better on the pelvic floor as some of the ab excercises work them out too, plus there is far less jumping jacks in level 2.

sighnomore · 16/01/2011 15:54

Hi havens been on in ages! Have had 4 days off Blush but I did go in for a swim when my daughter was having her lesson instead of munching risps in the cafe and did 30lengths about to do level 1 day 7, altho that's been over a 2 week period. Bought proper weights today just 1kh think it's enough for me! Still cannot do press ups even their modified version havebog problem there!

falsemessageoflethargy · 16/01/2011 16:14

Have just got a cold Libra and am PMTish and just feeling a bit blue. I was lying in bed this morning listening to dh thumping his way through level 3.

I will do one tonight though - after I have cooked a whole roast and a proper pudding and sorted out the dcs school stuff for tomorrow and done some freelance work

BalloonSlayer · 16/01/2011 16:21

avocadoes I don't have too many pelvic floor problems (3 c-sections) but I have found that the jumping up and down makes me feel I need a wee even though I had one before I started, so yeah they affect me too. But the ab exercsises (particularly the reverse crunch IIRC) help tone up the pelvic floor, so don't give up.

I haven't shredded yesterday and shan't today either. I felt exhausted yesterday and there was no way I could. Today I have something wrong with my eyes and have my glasses on. There is no way I can shred in my glasses or blind . . . they fall off when I put DS2 in his cot! Tomorrow I may put my lenses back in for the duration of the shred then take them out again.

Had a dismal experience in the changing room at Next yesterday. My body looked awful - all pasty, cellulitey, lumpy, bulgy, and the varicose vein on one of my legs would send a strong man screaming from the room. And that's after 10 days shredding. Sad

I pledge to keep going however.

falsemessageoflethargy · 16/01/2011 16:27

BalloonSlayer - never look in the mirror as you get changed in a changing room - take off your clothes facing the curtain, then put the new clothes on and only then look in the mirror - the lighting would make elle macpherson look shite.

Menagerie · 16/01/2011 17:26

Libra - they did check my muscles, as I had twins and that can cause the muscle parting thing , but said I was fine. I used to have very strong abs, but they're definitely not much cop now. Maybe I'm not pulling them in tight enough at the beginning of the exercise. Will have another go.

Balloon - everyone looks lousy in changing rooms. Even my best knickers turn into baggy grey ones in those mirrors! Wink

MyBrilliantCareer · 16/01/2011 17:27

Those mirrors are the reason I rarely go clothes shopping.

sighnomore · 16/01/2011 18:05

Changing room mirrors are evil! Ok taking 4 days off from shredding not good thought I was going to pass out it was like day one allmovrt again Sad and I've lost no weight Sad will like balloonslayer i pledge to keep going though

sighnomore · 16/01/2011 18:06

Excuse horrendous typos on iPhone - all over again- serious jelly legs!!

DontCallMeBaby · 16/01/2011 18:42

I can't remember the last time I tried on clothes in a changing room - happy side-effect of shopping online all the time. I think I need to do some real-life shopping though, as I'm no longer sure what size I am. Perhaps wearing my pink-tinted ski goggles would help?

I ought to go and get into my kit ready for my workout opportunity while DD is in the bath - think I'm going to go for Level 2 today, despite having embarrassed myself by getting just as sweaty during mums&kids zumba this morning as I did during the proper version yesterday. Blush
