I am going to shred later and just march out the jumping jacks - if I march vigorously I am hoping I won't lose out too much. Confused

I must shred - I don't know why - I feel compelled to do it every day. It's very odd.

susall · 15/01/2011 14:47

Wow just done my first level 2 and I love the fact that I am dripping in sweat which I dont get with level 1 any more. Some moves were tricky but doable on the lower intensity but I surprised myself by being able to do some of it higher intensity before switching down a notch. The twists at the end were made harder by my sweaty hands slipping on my mat and as much as I like level 1 I am glad that I moved on to level 2 as its not as evil as it sounds. Smile

MissMarjoribanks · 15/01/2011 17:09

Level 1, Day 6. The two days off really helped as I felt much better through it today. My technique is far superior when I'm not tired so the workout hits the spots its meant to.

And I've lost 0.5lb! Not much, admittedly, but I'm not dieting alongside.

I might move up to Level 2 after 7 days rather than 10.

DontCallMeBaby · 15/01/2011 17:30

I bought new trainers today. I had my gait analysed in order to get the right ones which meant I RAN in a SHOP on a TREADMILL.

And it was not the most humiliating thing I have ever done, and I didn't collapse after 30 seconds. This is good.

I think I'm going to christen the trainers this evening, and start on Level 2 tomorrow. Oh, and I went to zumba this morning, and the teacher mentioned she also does beginner classes, so I now feel quite good that I am clearly doing NON-beginner zumba (which would explain a lot).

Ingles2 · 15/01/2011 18:14

Hi Everyone.. Can I join you? Smile
I've just done my first level 1 workout.
I normally run, abut 15-20k a week, and it really showed..I found the leg work quite easy but the arms and press ups nearly killed me Blush
So has everyone knackered their knees? or is it just a temporary thing?
and anyone got any advice on how much shredding a week... is it 30 days continuous? can I mix with running?

KangarooCaught · 15/01/2011 18:41

LOTF, have been lurking wondering whether to get the DVD but have a old knee injury that means I can no longer run. Ice & elevating the knee helps if I really aggravate it - maybe try it with some pain relief if it's sore. Re exercises, I'm ok if there's no/v low impact, so my cross-trainer is ace in that respect. How feasible is Shred with no/low impact?

MyBrilliantCareer · 15/01/2011 18:59

Lady sorry to hear about your knee. You are a stubborn one though aren't you!

Welcome Ingles2. You can mix it with running - I feel like a run afterwards as I'm so energised - but can't manage the same distance. Was shattered after shred + 3 miles last Saturday. Is good to run to loosen the muscles afterwards though.

No shred from me today but I did run a very slow 6 miles (which is longer than I've run for years). I wasn't puffed out at all but my poor ankles ache after carrying my bulk for an hour.

Thnking about trying Level 1 and Level 2 tomorrow (double whammy!) mainly because I can't do it everyday AND keep up the running training at the level I need to.

MyBrilliantCareer · 15/01/2011 19:00

Actually I was probably shattered last Saturday because I'm just really unfit Blush

MyBrilliantCareer · 15/01/2011 19:02

notyummy and Libra - thanks for the tips. I think I've been having my bum sticking up in the air...oh so sexy Smile

MyBrilliantCareer · 15/01/2011 19:03

pfft sorry - and thanks to falsemessage. I'm posting in dribs and drabs today. Sorry!

kkey21 · 15/01/2011 19:08

Has anyone succesfully lost any weight with the shred? Or am i going to need to 'diet' also Shock

LadyOfTheFlowers · 15/01/2011 19:23

MBC - :o I did a shred, L1.

Swapped the jacks for light jogging paying special attention to really absorbing the impact throughout my whole leg rather than taking the brunt in the lower section. Knee hurt a bit afterwards but not at the time, took some ibuprofen and paracetamol.
According to a Google, ibuprofen helps the knee get better quicker.
I can certainly continue doing it this way I think so am happy. :)

Kangaroo - I think if you put light jogging in place of jacks you will be okay - I went in hammer and tongs with jumping jacks and am 8 stone overweight Shock so it's no wonder really - though I am NOT 400lbs so according to Jillian should be ok. Hmm :o

With regards weightloss, I can't find my scales since we moved house but I know I have lost inches though I couldn't tell you exactly how many. :)

MyBrilliantCareer · 15/01/2011 19:26

Yes ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. Don't take it for too long though because it can damage your stomack lining.

MyBrilliantCareer · 15/01/2011 19:27

stomach, obviously

herbaceous · 15/01/2011 19:34

I'm wondering if the knee thing might also be because of the very brief warm up. I think I might start grooving about for five mins before the start, as perhaps for someone as ancient and unfit as me just suddenly doing jumping jacks is not going to go down well...

Also made a decision to do two days of shred, then one day of strength and flexibility exercises, both to give the knees a break and to build up core strength. The way she just leaps into the abs exercises makes it difficult for me to do them well, I find. I'm sure I'm doing most of the work in my back.

KangarooCaught · 15/01/2011 19:54

Thanks LOTF, that's helpful, and hope your knee soon feels better.

Menagerie · 15/01/2011 19:58

I've stopped doing her abs. I do leg and bum exercises instead. The abs crunches she does make my abs stick out in a hard swollen knot. I remember that from old aerobics class crunches. There are other ways of toning abs, so I'm just trying to keep moving the chunkiest bits non stop instead!

bandgeek · 15/01/2011 20:16

Workout 1 day 2 completed. I have legs like jelly but I feel strangely good! I'm looking forward to tomorrow's workout now.

Don'tCallMeBaby - It's strange the way they can do it with ease! I don't think I ever could....

kkey21 · 15/01/2011 21:13

7 shreds down level 1

keep going....i will see a difference!

loubielou31 · 15/01/2011 21:19

What time of day do you all shred? Also will I really kill myself if I've done absolutely no exercise other than walking to school, I'm concerned. x

LadyOfTheFlowers · 15/01/2011 21:39

LoubieLou - I walk 4 miles a day on the school run, most days 2 of those miles are at a very brisk pace.

I don't drive so into town or to my mums puts another 2-3 miles on some days and it seems to have killed my knees.

Walking is very low impact I guess and heaving my great bulk into the air then coming crashing down is probably as high impact as you can get! Blush

Too much too soon for me I think, but I am very overweight - a lighter lady might be ok. :)

hormonalmum · 15/01/2011 22:09

I managed day 6 today,L1. I am thinking of moving up to L2 tomorrow. I had a look at some of it earlier and it looks quite a lot harder.
Dh going to buy me some hand weights for my bday.
Had to laugh today when I was doing it. Dd (5) and ds (3) both joined in. Ds was very good and kept asking me if he was doing it right! Dd didnt last long.
I cannot see them both wanting to do it every day with me!

llynnnn · 15/01/2011 22:52

Hi
I've done day 2 of level 1 this evening and I ache from top to toe! Have been feeling it a little all day after my 1st time yesterday, but nothing like now! Dreading getting up in the morning as I already, think I'll be in agony! Doesn't even feel too bad while I'm doing it :(
Is this normal? Will it ever stop hurting? I'm a bit scared, what have I got myself in to!

FoundWanting · 16/01/2011 00:12

llynnn Snap! Day 2, level 1.

I had to roll off the sofa this evening because it felt like my legs wouldn't support me.
