When are you supposed to move up to Level 2?

After 10 days?

or

After you find Level 1 easy?

< fears may be stuck at Level 1 to kingdom come >

southeastastra · 12/01/2011 19:26

i won't have time to shred today :( bought some weights though but could only find 1kg hope they will be ok - what has everyone else got?

MyBrilliantCareer · 12/01/2011 20:21

BalloonSlayer after ten days. I think when you aren't too challenged anymore maybe, or you're getting too bored at Level 1 move to Level 2.

southeastastra I'm using 1.5kg weights. For the bicep stuff I use two of them.

randomama · 12/01/2011 20:55

yay! just did day 1 of level 1! wow. it's definitely hard. i've not done any exercise for ages, and certainly never done cardio or weights before. wow. am still panting and bright red Angry and my shoulders ache already. phoned in about 20 seconds of it (last bit of 3rd set of jjs and last bit of 2nd set side lunges.)
LOVE IT though. it goes so fast!!! definitely shredding tomorrow!

MissMarjoribanks · 12/01/2011 21:05

Level 1, Day 5. I thought it was meant to get easier? Confused I'm definitely finding it harder going, though I am generally more tired than Monday as I have just gone back to work and I'm not used to it.

Right, bike and ironing again. Weighing myself nekked tomorrow morning and taking that as my starting weight.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 12/01/2011 21:19

I did some reading about shredding and it said you don't have to move up from level 1 if you feel L2 is too hard because if L1 challenges you, you will get results - everyones body and fitness is different.
Though saying that I am worried about my crappy core - actually worried now as everyone else seems to be able to do at least some core moves. :(

I had a migraine at 8am this morn for the shcool run (cheers!) so felt really tired after that but made myself shred before DH got home - I worked really hard as I have not stepped because of calf - which is feeling better :) - and sweaty was an understatement!
I felt good though afterwards - I love all my muscles feeling hot to the touch.

falsemessageoflethargy · 12/01/2011 21:28

Am going to do another Level 2 now - really dont feel upto it though but MUST.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 12/01/2011 21:42

You go girl!!

Wish i could do one let alone 'another'!! :o

DontCallMeBaby · 12/01/2011 22:31

No shredding for me today - started back at swimming lessons after a long break for Christmas. Pretty hard work, but I am CONVINCED not as hard as if I'd sat around all that time, instead of doing various stuff including shredding. :)

I am NOT however doing a sponsored open water swim in June, he can't make me, god he's a persistent bugger though (swimming teacher).

beanybean · 12/01/2011 22:55

Hi everyone. I am a new Shredhead and am on Day 3 of level one. Finding it tough as the day go on as my muscles are still tired from the day before but really enjoying it and loving that it's only 20mins. Has anyone got any of Jillian's books? Any good?

racmac · 13/01/2011 07:42

I have this cookbook

www.amazon.co.uk/Master-Your-Metabolism-Cookbook/dp/0307718220/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1294904352&sr=1-9

I wouldnt particularly recommend it - its very American as you would expect and some of the stuff Ive never heard of Confused

I do have this DVD which is quite good though - it has a warm up and then 6 sessions which last about 5 minutes each so you can choose to do all of them or pick a few to do.

www.amazon.co.uk/Jillian-Michaels-Banish-Boost-Metabolism/dp/B003YUBZ6G/ref=pd_bxgy_d_h__img_b

and i have just bought her new abs one which Im waiting to arrive

herbaceous · 13/01/2011 08:06

Had a day off shredding yesterday (after a whole two days at level one), so will get back to it today. Have a half-baked theory that maybe it's better to do two days on, one day off, to help the muscles recover. But it could just be because I'm lazy!

SlantyBaws · 13/01/2011 08:59

sea I'm on 1.5kg weights. They're a bit light for the bicep/back exercises but killers for the rest! Your 1kg will do for a bit, but you'll prob need to upgrade eventually.

Day 9 just done. My leg tone is tremendous (if I do say so myself) but the jelly belly is still there, grrrr.

Roll on level 2!

Well done to all you shredders!

peanutsmuggler · 13/01/2011 09:17

I've been following this thread but haven't posted yet.

I managed to do 8 consecutive days at level 1, tried to do day 9 yesterday and my knees were just completely giving way on the jumping jacks so I had to stop, I'm so disappointed. My knees still don't feel up to it today either.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm hoping to get back to it at the weekend, think I might just do every other day though.

fishie · 13/01/2011 09:37

thank you libra. i'll see how it goes - i have occasional enforced rest days due to lack of daylight or having to work late. am going to see how shred 3 days run four days goes.

have got colleagues and friends all buying shred haha. have you signed up for jillian's emails? there's an interesting calculation about active metabolic rate here

mermaidspurse · 13/01/2011 11:22

level 2 day 1. Nice to have a change, actually not as bad as I was expectingSmile

peanutsmuggler now you come to mention it my knees do seem to be making clicking noises that they don't do when I do pilates, yoga or gym work. Maybe slightly adapt the star jumps? I have found that I can't keep up with the cardio due to my asthma and just slow it down a bit.

Just done day 3, level one, and if anything I'm even more in love with Jillian than before. She's so COOL. Though by using weights rather than cans of beans my arms now barely function.

I'm not sure what weights I'm using - there's nothing written on them - but they're more than a kilo, as that's all my kitchen scales go up to!

Haven't measured myself - too hideous - but in a week and two days of no booze or cake, plus a few days of shredding I've lost .....drum roll please ...... a mighty ONE POUND. For God's sake. It took me two weeks to put on five, and 10 days to lose one? Life's so unfair.

BalloonSlayer · 13/01/2011 12:40

herbaceous that happened to me too. Angry Not fair is it? But you will soon see the difference. I am Blush to admit it but I was admiring myself in the mirror this morning. And when I was making the DCs' sandwiches I leant my stomach on the worktop and thought: Confused as my stomach just sort of wasn't there. I still have my two rolls of flab on my tummy when I sit down though - one below the navel and one above, yuck, but when I am standing up looking a myself I am well pleased.

peanutsmuggler I have found some days I just can't do the shred so well as others. I did it pretty darn good the day before yesterday, but yesterday I was crap. I wondered if I was discouraged because of pretty lame weight loss or whether I was bored and feeling a bit down, or because I was lacking energy through trying to eat less. I guess we all have off days. I still can't do the first set of cardio all through, the second set of skipping rope kills me. Yet I can do the last set fine.

MyBrilliantCareer and LadyoftheFlowers thank you for your advice about Level 2. Maybe I ought to watch it first. In any case, my Day 10 of Level 1 is up tomorrow, and I have decided I will not start level 2 at the weekend, I will start it on Monday when all the DCs are out. Then I can truly collapse give it my all.

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 13/01/2011 13:17

sea I am using 2Kgs for shoulder exercises (sometimes dropping to 1Kg for second set if I am feeling tired) and 3.5kgs for rows, biceps and chest flyes.

peanutsmuggler there is a low-impact variation for the jumping jacks despite what Gillian says, just do the arms whilst taking one leg out to the side at a time incase you do want to shred without causing problems for your knees.

dontcallmebaby go on do a sponsered swim! good goal to have. I have signed up to do a 5K gulp

lady I hope your migraine didn't last long. The exercises in Level 1 are good for the core, all that squatting whilst doing punching and bending over whilst doing rows is working your core at the same time. Whilst you are doing these exercises think about what your core muscles are doing at the same time. You might want a read of this as well Neutral Spine which will help ensure your posture is correct during the day, again will help with core.

balloon I intend to do 10 days at each level and after that mix it up. Don't forget each level can be as hard or as easy as you want, you could even make Gillian sweat during level 1 if you made her up her weights and increase the intensity. I think you should move up a level when you feel ready or are bored just using the 10 days as a guideline.

whiter fantastic inch loss.

Went back to Level 1 this morning, whilst I didn't phone it in I did struggle a little bit after yesterdays level 2 and a run, think will do level 1 day 10 tomorrow and then have Saturday off for a hangover to recharge to start Level 2 on Sunday and do another run. I am loving this.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 13/01/2011 14:10

Bless you Libra - will look at that. :)

Panut and Mermaid - I came on here now to ask about the very same thing. Am on day 9 and the knees are not happy at all. :(

Each little moving part of them aches - it seems to be the impact of landing in the star shape because your knees are splayed out ifswim? Landing in an open leg position. The front outisde edges of my knees hurts the most.

Think my calf is better though. :)

My weights are 1.1kg and they absolutely kill me on the 'sideways lunge and shoulder raise' but can't feel them at all on bicep curls and chest flyes.
Need to get some bigger ones and swap around as others are doing. :)

Thighs look better, DH says'arse looks smaller' Hmm :) , belly looks the same but really does ache so am doing something.

No cake, no booze, no nothing remotely interesting really since I started and not craving it either - yet. Confused

peanutsmuggler · 13/01/2011 14:18

Yes the front outside edge is where mine hurt the most too, they just feel really weak like they are going to buckle underneath me when I jump.

I'm going to try again tonight but do a different cardio move, punching or butt kicks, instead of the star jumps and see how my knees hold up.

I lost 2 lbs in my first week, that was with watching what I eat as well, I forgot to take any measurements though.

herbaceous · 13/01/2011 15:05

My knees hurt, too! But inside, under the kneecap, and only when I go down stairs. And only on the left. But they feel a bit weak and feeble when I do jumping jacks, too. I just try and keep my legs straighter, and do most of the bounce from the ankle...

Finding the bicycle crunches v difficult. I can feel my back raising off the floor, unlike the lovely Anita who keeps hers stuck to it like glue. The abs have never been the same since my SPD and subsequent C section 18 months ago.

Whitershadeofpale · 13/01/2011 16:10

Because I did mine so early in the morning yesterday it seems like I've missed a day, especialy since today was the first day I woke up with absolutely no aches. Really looking forward to doing it tonight now even though it will be more difficult with 15m DN running about. Might shred while DB baths him. Smile.

Even though I feel great about my inch loss I don't think it will sink in until other people start noticing. I haven't told anyone I'm doing it apart from DM (who's started doing it with me) as past experience has shown me people:

a)lie and tell you how much you've lost, before you lost anything.

b)Try and derail you ('go on one biscuit won't hurt')

c)Constantly quiz you and tell you why you're doing it wrong or won't be able to sustain it.

I've been back at work for 2 weeks now and watching what I eat and nobody has commented, which has made it so much easier for me. Plus it's nice to know if things don't continue in the same way (though there's no reason for them not to) people won't think of me as a fat failure (or at least I won't be able to make myself feel even worse by convincinng myself that everyone thinks that).

MadameCastafiore · 13/01/2011 16:47

Haven't got time to read everyone's but well done all of those that are shredding along!

Am off to do level 2 again tonight - could have shaken myself and showered DH and the kids with sweat last night after level 2 again but as I remember from last time took a good 5 days for me to breeze though it - lying struggle less I think is the phrase!

Haven't eaten anything other than a couple of cuppa soups today yet though as have had a bit of a busy one with the kids and work so not sure how far I will get but we will see.

Off to shop with Mr Ocado so I don't have to try and fit the supermarket in as well as working, shredding and fixing this bloody house - gates now not working and have water cming in to DDs room again!!!!

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!

Shred away ladies shred away - and every time you think of eating cake or something fatty just grab it and rub it on your thighs - saves your body doing the work.

Hi MBC too I am getting there I promise - that bikini (or swimsuit) will look fab!!
