Here is the new thread for us to achieve success in Xmas Smile

Old thread is here

I'll change my name to my "Christmas" one after Saturday: I'm helping to organise the Scottish Mumsnet Christmas meet-up and it might confuse things if I change my name.

OP posts:
GettinFestive · 19/12/2010 10:01

I'm not making sense, strictly is on xmas day of course, no idea if Pam's Argentine Tango is in it.

Did you see last night - Ann said that if they got to the final both her and Anton were going to fly in.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2010 10:12

nomoresnow last night, thank god, so hoping for a thaw, but that also means it will become slush/freeze and be ice

im dreading my country lane tomorrow to work

bebeinamanger · 19/12/2010 16:34

Just had a turkey dinner (lunch) was yummy! Feel VERY full! Blush And a big bowl of apple crumble & custard (which I ended up giving some of to DD after she finished hers coz I was too full) very yummy, but I will need to be very good over the next few days!

DH has our one electric heater in the bedroom. We are on the 'priority' list apparently (because of having DD) but they are sorting out an emergency! Hmm

No idea how I'm going to get home this week. It's not going to get warm enough to melt the snow & there is the chance of more!

I love snow, had a great time today with DD, but I want to be home with DH!! :( I may have to brave it & prepare myself for a hideous journey home! :( Don't think, at this stage, we will make it to LaplandUK on Thursday this week! Which is really really disappointing! :(

GettinFestive · 20/12/2010 09:30

Oh Bebe, hope you manage to get home Sad

Your xmas dinner sounds scrummy. I have been snacky this weekend but have to rein it in I would love to sts on xmas eve!

How's things Blondes/everyone? It's snowing lightly atm, ds and I are planning to walk to town, tbh we have to as characteristically last minute xmas shopping to be done.

Blondes/Piste etc - have you heard of 'rabbids' latest craze replaced go-gos and pokemon

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 20/12/2010 10:35

Morning all. Just dropped DD plus mates at rowing. It is -3!! But rowers are hardy and have all the right gear. It's actually their coaches I feel for! It is terribly picturesque on the river though..

We still have a lot of lying snow and the skies are ominous again. Am glad we have a 4x4 and I've been taught how to use it properly..

Got our proper tree up yesterday and had loads of mulled wine.

Was glad Kara won, although we were horrified to see her backflip. She soooo nearly landed on her head. DD who used to do that flicky stuff when she was smaller screeched! I am not surprised she hurt her wrist

And Stella in the Apprentice - only right and proper! But we had curry. Shame. But yum.

Back on soups today. On the upside with the weather, DH was going on a trip for the rest of the week but his flight is cancelled, and so now has the need for him to go!! He is still asleep and it's 10.30. Shocking. Xmas Smile

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 20/12/2010 10:37

GT- no, not heard of them but will ask DS later. I am hoping now we are at senior school we will avoid that stuff. Their crazes though are iPhones etc so maybe I shall be wistfully thinking back to gogos!!

GettinFestive · 20/12/2010 10:48

I don't watch the Apprentice but saw Stella on Breakfast, she said she's good with people.

I was pleased Kara won, the showdance was skillful but loved the others, especially their American Smooth. She said Matt made the backflips look so easy!

Not looking forward to the iPhones craze....I should think myself lucky atm it's only pokemon etc! I once bought ds a packet of pokemon and he was disappointed that they weren't the new series Hmm clever marketing aimed at kids getting parents to fork out more.

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 20/12/2010 11:14

We once chatted to the guy who owns our local newsagent / sweetie shop and he despaired too because they find it so difficult to anticipate or keep up with crazes. Because something might be white hot one day and dead in the water ( shouldn't say that with DD rowing ) the next. I remember the relaunch of crazybones. DD had had loads but 2 years later they were subtly different when DS was into them. I swear it's just cheaper to buy an iPhone lol!!

Murtette · 20/12/2010 14:45

Hello ladies

Sorry I haven't been around and no time now for a proper catch up. I'll be back properly in the NY! Hope you're all well, looking forward to lovely Xmases with your DCs and aren't waiting for too many parcels or food deliveries to arrive. I was supposed to be heading to C'wall today but have postponed it due to weather but am not ure I'll make it at all given the forecast. I DO NOT want to get stuck for hours on the M4 or M5.

I've still be weighing in and have STS which is a pleasant surprise given the amount of mince pies, shortbread, mulled wine that has been consumed.

*Piste - each time I hear I report about LHR I think about your DH. Is he home already? I do hope so. If not, fingers crossed he gets back in time.

Merry Christmas, Slinkies!

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/12/2010 16:03

Have a great party blondes.

Well done on sts Murtette.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/12/2010 17:29

bebeinamanger · 20/12/2010 18:41

Please all say a little prayer for me! I am going to attempt to drive home 2moro! Eeeek! Going to do motorways (which I don't normally do) so fingers crossed things will be alright, if heavy going! Route plan is M1 from Milton Keynes to M6, M6 to M42, M42 to M5 & then just follow that home! Bit scared!!

Was -9 here at midday today! Brrrrrrrrr! Took DD out on a sledge we managed to get very briefly, it was too cold!

Hope everyone is ok?

DH has got British Gas coming out soon, fingers crossed they fix it! House temperature was only +12, and dropping!!

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 20/12/2010 20:23

Bebe.... You will be absolutely fine and even if it takes ages, you will get there. And, your DD will learn an important lesson tomorrow and that is her mum is bold and not one to be fazed. Go girl!

bebeinamanger · 20/12/2010 20:54

Figured that at least if I went on the motorways and got stuck I'd be able to get help! Xmas Hmm Maybe?!

Have popped a few snowy pictures onto my profile! I said I wanted snow, and I got it! Just wish I was at home & not 120miles away from DH! :(

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 20/12/2010 21:03

Make sure your phone is charged and you have a full petrol tank in case of traffic jams. Plus snacks and drinks for you both and endless patience!!

We seem to be having more snow right now. Just want it next weekend too if we have to put up with the faff now!

bebeinamanger · 20/12/2010 21:17

Full tank - check
Screenwash full - check...(frozen though Hmm)
Snacks for journey - check
blankets - check
Thermos - check
Phone charged - check
Map/Directions - check!

Don't think I'll be going to LaplandUk on Thursday! Xmas Sad Shame!

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 20/12/2010 22:03

Bebejones... You are clear for take-off!

Sorry, I don't know what Lapland UK is but don't give up on it yet. It is only Monday and things change.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/12/2010 22:52

safe drive bebe

im furious

went to pick up mb and came home and found that woofa had eaten 200 cocktail sausages and 50 veggie sausage rolls Shock Angry

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 20/12/2010 22:58
Xmas Envy above is a Woofa about to vom everywhere.
bebeinamanger · 21/12/2010 07:51

This is LaplandUK, it is in Kent!! Don't want to attempt the drive there & back on Thursday!

Greedy Woofa! :o lol But very naughty!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/12/2010 09:22

lapland is very near to blondesland Grin

bloody dog - grrrrrrrrrr

hall is also impassible so party is going to be at my work .......

wish me luck

GettinFestive · 21/12/2010 10:06

Xmas Shock 50 cocktail sausages? My cat once ate almost a whole loaf of bread.

Will you have to buy another load of sausages or do without them? He's unstoppable!

Bebe, it's looking alright ice/weather wise down here, have a good journey.

You may still make lapland UK. Will have a look at website.

Although my mum and dad are coming round today, it's looking a bit icy but luckily I can spread some rock salt along their path.

My sister doesn't have a date for another op thanks blondes, she had hassle sorting everything out with work and thinks will now have to wait till easter. She has misshappen foot and they have to take some bone away (ouch Sad).

RatherBeOnTheMulledWine · 21/12/2010 10:45

Piste has fainted because of the Lapland price. Blimmeee. I hope you took out the optional insurance Bebe?

As if anyone ever does.

I really don't think you should give up on it yet. The weather is certainly easing. Stay with Blondes overnight, she may have a stable round the back, and small Bebe can sleep in the manger. Definitely worth a think.

DH is happily snowed IN!! Lots of people keep asking if he's snowed out. But no, happily he is upstairs. Xmas Smile

Bought another hand mixer for extreme soup making which will become a national sport for me for next year!

bebeinamanger · 21/12/2010 15:27

I am home! 4hours instead of the usual 2! Motorways not too bad, A roads awful! It started to snow just as I got to Gloucester!

British Gas have sort of fixed the boiler but think we need a new one! Hmm There is at least some heat, but boiler is making awful noises! Bathroom pipes are frozen which apparently is causing the boiler some problems too!

Piste - We didn't pay, it was part of my Mumsnet prize! Gloucestershire to Kent is a long way! DH doesn't finish work til 12 & we need to be there for 5pm! Then drive back again 4-5 hours later! Just don't want to risk it that close to Christmas. More snow forecast 2moro too!
