Piste is busily plumping up the cushions and making a space for Blondes to dump the naughty step.

Here we go! Let's see 2010 out in style my fellow Slinkies!

OP posts:
prettybird · 19/10/2010 13:30

I'd better thinkk about making the Christmas puddings and Christmas/birthday cakes (my Dad's birthday is on Christmas Day, so I make him a "birthday" Wink cake). Mum always usied to make Christmas puddings for us - so I'll probably need to take that over :( Need to check with my dad though - he's turned into a sort of "super" New Man, expirmenting with recipes and continuing Mum's tradition of good cooking. (He always was a "New Man" - it's just that Mum did most of the cooking).

Sneaky peek at the scales yesterday and today shows I am movong back in the right direction :)

Day 3 of Level 3 of the Shred completed: ds pack at school today so I can do ti in peace.

Am about to go and make some of dh's favourite spicy biscuits (cinnamon, ground cloves and ginger) as he is, as I type, in hospital having day surgey on his knee. Poor guy - he's really apprehensive as he hasn't been in hopsital (except for when ds was born and then visitng me when I was re-admitted with an infection and the later MMCs) since he had his tonsils out when he was 18 months old - 50 years ago Shock

He'll be fine though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2010 17:52

i dont make, i buy [hgrin]

foot is sore, after 2hrs at A&E and being x rayed, turns out it is broken :) but is severly sprained - a grade 2 sprain - take 4/6weeks to heal and no gym for a while so will be a porky blonde [hsad]

mr blondes does have a few talents with food and tonight (hes just rang) he will be cooking salmon fish cakes and saute pots with peppers and onions and mange tout!!

bebejones · 19/10/2010 18:25

I made DH & DD the MN recipe of the week tonight! Blondes would like, tis sausages! Wink Very yummy, tried a little but had a chicken noodle soup & small hm bread roll to save some cals for the sponge pudding I'm about to make! Blush In my defence I have been rushing around everywhere today & have eaten 2 slices of lemon curd on toast, a satusuma & half a sausage & then my soup. So not alot. Will make custard with skimmed milk to try & 'help'! Blush

Blondes - glad it isn't broken!
Your DH is very good to cook, think mine can just about stretch to beans on toast! Hmm

Ended up making DD a perpetual advent calendar (couldn't find one I liked), put pic on my profile, am quite proud! :o

Murtette · 19/10/2010 20:41

Blondes - what a nightmare for you! I had a grade 2 sprain at Uni (hence why I was on crutches when I wanted to by flying) and it was a real limitation for a good few weeks. Did they show you any exercises to do? Obviously you won't be able to do any now as, presumably you're just resting it, but its the best way of re-building strength. Did you have lots of half term activities planned and things?

Bebe - hugs to your DD. That must have been scary.

Pretty - I hope your DH is doing OK

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2010 21:10

isnt broken - duh!!

the family i work for are lovely and actually enjoy spending time with their children (many employers done [hhmm] so tomorrow is my last day and off for 10 days till Nov 1 [hsmile] so least HT i can rest (tho did have a few things planned but may not be able to hobble [hsad]

blondes sprained foot

swelling and bruising nicely

yes got exercises to do but at the moment can barely wiggle toes

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2010 21:12

ps dh supper was yummy - salmon fish cakes 4 with onions/peppers chopped and added to small saute thinly sliced pots 3p so 7p in all

i am REALLY going to have to watch my weight/eating over the next month as wont be able to go to the gym [hsad]

Murtette · 19/10/2010 22:51

Just eaten a v large slice of cake as feel in need of comfort food. DD's bday party only consists of her 4 GPs and 2 uncles o you would have thought it would be pretty easy to co-ordinate them all into being in one place at one time, but no! It was a choice between eating cake or losing the plot and cancelling the whole thing. I'm trying not to be too PFB about it but it would be nice if someone could actually do as I asked. Rant over!

Blondes - I'm not sure if its good or bad timing that you've done your ankle just before you have some time off. I'm not sure how you'd hobble after 3 DCs but its tough if it affects your own plans. I didn't interview a nanny today as she got a job yesterday.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2010 23:22

That's a shame murtette about the nanny but sure many more will come along soon

messge me if you want any pointers or you can get some useful info off the cm section

yes bummer about my ankle and ht :( sorting out the 3 today was hard but older 2 being very helpful bless them

even woofa sensed something was wrong and was very loving ( tho he always is lol)

ps you HAVE to eat cake on your dd birthday

GettinGhoulish · 20/10/2010 09:34

bebe Sad your poor dd. Hope she is feeling a little better today, horrible when they're ill like that, i know the helpless feeling.

blondes Sorry about your foot Sad Are you using cold compresses? Glad you can rest it for 10 days - plenty of vitamin C apparently helps recovery of injuries and bruises. Lovely family and woofa Smile

murtette hope all works out well for you on the nanny front. Hope you get family sorted out.

pretty best wishes to your dh, is he OK? And I am soo impressed at your shredding.

I have to pick my t-shirt up today from the RSPCA and go running when dh gets home, practise my word processing (v boring but necessary) and go to ASDA. Not very exciting today!

Tomorrow I have a six hour round trip as have to drive myself and bro to Somerset, to put my nan's ashes in gd's grave. Not looking forward to the long day. Then have to be back to ferry dc to and from the halloween disco.

prettybird · 20/10/2010 10:58

Shred completed for today :)

Now I jsut need to walk along to the shops to get some square sauasge and morning rolls to spoil all the good work treat dh Hmm I will walk briskly though, promise Wink

Dh is fine - he's been really apprehensive about the anaesthetic and was just grateful he woke up! He has nothing but praise for the staff at the day Surgery Unit for putting him at ease.

Blondes: that's awful about your ankle. I've sprained my right ankle badly three times now (once in Paris on my own at 17, and was taken by some very handsome and flirting policemen to get it x-rayed) and I am very concsious that it is weaker than my left one (and I'm sure it is no coincidence that it is always the right achilles tendon that goes first when I start running again). Hope the kids continue to behave! :)

Murtette: I am sure the rgiht nanny is just around the corner. With the advcie you can get from Blodes, you can't fail! :)

GG: hope the day went OK without getting stuck in traffic. If the day is as beautiful as it is here in sunny Glasgow at least it'll be a lovely Autumn drive.

bebe: I'm very impressed with your handiwork. It'll be a lovely heirloom to get out every year, which will leave your dd with lots of happy memories. I found a nice perpeetual calendar a few years ago, reduced, in Lakeland Plastics of all places but have never seen one I like since.

Jodie - how's the Ryvita and water diet going Wink

DespicableMe: I do the same thing, weigh naked first thing in the morning, after a pee (and anything else I can manage Wink). Blush

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/10/2010 11:43

Greetings all

Blooming heck blondes. You poor thing That looks dreadful. Hope you haven't got any tap dancing competitions coming up?!

Lovely calendar Bebe. Ours are sort of wooden boxy things and DC still at 13&11 love getting them out. Plus you can put whatever you like in. I remember doing hair clips for DD once and one of those v v v bouncy balls for them too.

GG. Hope today went ok and it is only two more sleeps until half term for your DS.

Waves to all Slinks

DD loved her army event. She is made for outward bound stuff.

Am just making piles for our holiday, lovely to be putting out vest tops, shorts, swimmers. Except for me. I have a tankini but will feel v self conscious in it. I think I could be as thin as a very thin thing and still not feel too confident in a swimming pool!

Can't wait until Friday!!

OP posts:
prettybird · 20/10/2010 12:22

Piste: I'm sure you will look fine in your cozzie :) Christ, I was 13st in the summer and still wore a bikini! Grin (did buy myself a forgiving M&S one that helped cover my tum a bit - the Azure halterneck top ruched bottome from M&S as sold here). Of course I'd ha ve preferred to be slimmer, but most women people are too concerned with their onw bumps & bumps to notice yours. In fact, if they do, many of them well be doing so in a jealous way, Envy at your lovely curves! You should flaunt them!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/10/2010 14:27

Aw Pretty. You are way too kind!
At the dentist now doing our half term maintenance activities! Cos of her fixed brace DD has to do the hygienist too. Gulp on price.

Contemplating food for tonight. It's so cold here today. 6 degrees it said in my car. When its cold I fancy something spicy!

OP posts:
bebejones · 20/10/2010 15:10

My mum hates going to the hygienist, says she is a complete sadist! Hmm

Haven't ventured out here today, but have had the heating on all day so must be cold!

Had to make my mincemeat again after cocking it up completely yesterday in a moment of utter stupidity! Blush Have got a half filled jar so unfortunately I will have to cook that at the weekend! :o

Piste - I'm sure you will look fine in your cossie!
I'm v excited at the prospect of filling the advent calendar! :o

Blondes - that looks so sore :( Are you taking Arnica for the bruising? Some witch hazel in a cold compress would be good for the bruising too. Hope you are getting some rest!

DD is feeling better today & is being a complete PITA! Just now wiped snot everywhere, all over her sleeves! All the while looking at me in a very defiant way & laughing as I had just told her not to do it whilst I dashed for a tissue! Angry I'm feeling particularly grumpy, probably coming down with the dreaded lurgy myself! :(

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/10/2010 15:42

wow calender is fab bebe!!!

prettybird glad all went well with dh op

gg not long now till your run, hope you got your t shirt etc ok

pistse, glad dd enjoyed her army sleepover (sure i would also enjoy an army sleepover with hunky men lol)

bebe, how did you ruin the mincemeat

Afternoon ladies. I put on 0.5lbs, which I am OK with, I did expect abit more TBH, so thats OK, back on the counting now though!

Blondes Ouch at the ankle. Can you go swimming or do some Yoga/pilates classes to help with the exercise?

Piste Have a great holiday, am so jealous. I've got the week off next week and am so tempted to go to my mum and dads, but I can't afford it Sad

GT I Still haven't sponsered you, I promise I will later, I got paid yesterday!

bebe lovely calander, I wish I was arts and crafty, but I'm so rubbish!

I've just found out that one of DH's friends committed suicide last night Sad Don't know the full story, although I do know he has a history of Class A drug abuse, but he was back at his mums and supposed to have been doing well. DH is off out with his friends tonight as I think they all need to mull it over together, it has been a terrible shock to them all, they are only 32/33.

On the other hand, I have just been to see DS1's (4) teacher and she is full of praise and said he has a very mathamatical mind (god knows whre that's from) he does jigsaws in a flash and can put together a complicated train track for the other kids,
the other children ask him for help on the computer too! Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/10/2010 15:56

jodie ((hugs)) HOW AWFUL [hsad] same thing happened to one of dh friends a few years back and it was so hard as you think why did they do that/could you have prevented it/helped/supported more/feel so guilty etc

and the answer is no - if someone wants to kill theirselves they will and there is NOTHING you can do to stop them

thinking of you/dh aand friends at this sorrowful time

fab news about ds [hsmile] and my nearly 8yr knows more about computers than i do [hblush]

and .5lb is bugger all, bet if you had farted it would have sts [hgrin]

prettybird · 20/10/2010 16:15

How awful Jodie :(

A friend of ours committed suicide a few years ago. Apparently his wife did a brilliant eulogy, saying that it was the horrible black depression, which was the illness that he had struggled with for a number of years, that killed him, and that people were to remember him as he had been without the illness. We weren't able to go to the funeral as I was getting my second (or was it third?) scan for my 2nd MMC :( It was *not a happy time.

So don't feel guilty - any more than you would have done if he had died from cancer.

bebejones · 20/10/2010 17:20

Jodie - how horrid for you & your DH :(

Is your DS good at music too? Apparently maths ability & musical ability are linked, they use the same part of the brain! Hmm

0.5lbs is nothing, that'll go next time you pee!! Wink

Pretty - just having a snoop at your profile & noticed that you list 'I capture the castle' in favourite books. Tis my absolute favourite I must have read it about 20 times! :o DH wouldn't let me call DD Cassandra or Heloise, I tried, but he put his foot down!

prettybird · 20/10/2010 17:39

:) Bebe. @Tis a book I read in my youth (and therefore didn't understand everything that was going on.....Wink) a looooong time ago and then read again in my 20s and 30s a few times. Don't know where my copy of it is now - but since it was one of the books that jumped into my mind, I decided it had to be a favourite! :)

I should probably add Lord of the Rings to that list - it's another one I can dip into repeatedly.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/10/2010 18:30

Sad news Jodie Sad

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 20/10/2010 18:37

Jodie - our DD is very mathematical, was picked up early too, she adores maths Hmm and is doing GCSE early, then A level early more than likely. She now also loves chemistry and physics - she says they feel similar to maths. It's funny how they develop with their own interests I think. She loves listening to music on her ipod but can't really be arsed to practice any instrument. She got up to Grade 2 piano in primary, so not bad, but now just wants to row and be sporty or run about in the dark in her army fatigues!

The most painful thing about the dental hygienist for DD was that it cost £45. She has a fixed brace so I can see that it is not a bad thing, but blimey.

OP posts:
bebejones · 21/10/2010 09:40

Have Christmas cake 1 of 2 in the oven, won't attempt the 2nd til the weekend coz it's such a pfaff!! Has lots of fruit in though, do you think a slice of it will count as one of my '5-a-day'?! Wink Hmm

In agony with a wisdom tooth today. So swollen where it is under the gum that it's making my throat hurt! :( At least I don't want to eat!! [hgrin]

Piste - Ouch! That's an expensive trip!

Pretty - I don't read as much as I would like anymore. Have had 'The Lost Symbol' for months and have read the 1st page 10 times & that's as far as I ever have time to get! Never got on with any Tolkein, found it too confusing! Blush I do like the LOTR films though.

prettybird · 21/10/2010 09:53

I only read on holiday now bebe. :(

My problem is that when I start a book, I have to finish it - no matter how long it takes. I read the Steig Larsson books in less than a week (and that included reading Invictus in the middle, 'cos dh had't finished re-reading one of them) when I was on holiday - but that included a number of 2 or 3 am reads Blush

So I just don't start.

I struggle to even read the magazines that I get: I haven't even opened the October issue of the Good Housekeeping that has been sitting beside my bed for a month and half - let alone the November issue that is still sitting in the kitchen (with presumably a Christmas cake recipe for me to look at and decide if I will use this year)

bebejones · 21/10/2010 11:03

I didn't even get to read on holiday, DD is still too demanding! :( Maybe I'll get to read it over Christmas! Or maybe I'll get sidetracked & spend too much time on MN?!! Wink

I swear by 'Saint' Delia's classic Christmas cake recipe. It's the only fruit cake I have ever actually liked! But it is hard work! Takes a good hour of actually doing the cake mix (not to mention soaking the fruit in Brandy overnight) then 4 hours in the oven! Worth it though! :)
