Piste is busily plumping up the cushions and making a space for Blondes to dump the naughty step.

Here we go! Let's see 2010 out in style my fellow Slinkies!

JODIEwantsanewname · 17/10/2010 20:06

Wow Despicable, that brilliant!

I've been soooooo bad this weekend, I can't even bring my self to calculate the points, but yesterday was macdonalds, and then party so red wine and buffet, and although I was careful with the savoury bit, (crisp rolls and hummus and beetroot salad and celery sticks) they bought the cakes out, ny friend had made the triple choc cheesecake, so woul dbe rude not to try it Blush and I was fairly tipsy by this point so I had a Jam donut too!!!!!

Then today I have been for a big long walk, and just had an apple for breakfast, I have been to MIL for dinner, so gravy, roasties, yorkshire puds, beef, yum yum, followed by a (smallish) piece of choc fudge cake!

God, just typing that up has given me the sweats!!!

Water and ryvita for me for the rest ofthe week I thnk!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2010 21:54

GettinGhoulish · 18/10/2010 07:44

Bad news. Gained 2lb but definitely have toned backside and outer thighs with all this running.

I must have burnt off vast amounts of calories through the running this week, but this weekend had chips, eat as much as you like curry, apple crumble with cream.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/10/2010 08:18

GG - I shouldn't worry about your weight until after your run, and as you say, you must be toning nicely!

Am feeling a bit fraught. DD has gone on a CCF overnight training exercise ( army thing) with the school. Don't know why I am fraught. Just don't like the idea of the army training barracks thing. She has no inclination to join the army, it's just quite a wheeze to join the CCF and wear the army uniform. They are bivouacking, cooking out, night patrol etc. I think the army thing doesn't sit so comfortably with me.

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2010 08:23

Aww gg :( I'm sure again that it's muscle. You have been training so much for next week

I've a poorly eldest dc today. Ear ache so off school

we won the meat raffle at the pub yesterday so tonight dh is cooking steak and new pots and veg for tea :)

GettinGhoulish · 18/10/2010 09:33

Piste, totally see where you're coming from, I would feel the same, but as you say it's just a wheeze for her. Your dd sounds such a kind and confident girl.

I am feeling a bit fraught too - Ds has friendship problems atm, not helped by him being that much younger than the others.

He always seems to be like this coming up for half term/term I think he gets tired and finds the constant social whirl/politics of play times a bit challenging. He feels he's being excluded, but I am holding back from mentioning something to the school as he will probably be better after half term.

Blondes, you are so kind Grin muscle it is then.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/10/2010 16:36

Aw - your poor son GG - it really is very nearly Half Term thank goodness.

When I had a regular class, I seemed to spend the majority of my time sorting out friendship dynamics. It didn't matter what age the children were, it felt quite relentless. There are probably a whole bunch of them feeling just like your DS. Playtimes are certainly the hardest thing to cope with at school, I'm sure they must feel wild and anarchical to many children, and like you say the politics all gets overwhelming. A lot is dependent on the actual bunch of children too. My DS had the loveliest easy going bunch of children and they all seemed to play with each other from Reception to Year 6. DD on the other hand had the most extraordinary bunch of individuals in her class. She was very unusual to be the oldest child in her family in that class, as the great majority were only children or youngest (by some way) children. They also had only 6 girls and 22 boys. The dynamics that this caused were very odd indeed, and we were very glad to be out of it when she moved onto a different senior school!

Thank you GG - DD certainly is very confident and capable. We all aim to give our children roots and wings don't we? Roots so they feel secure and wings to fly. DD has very strong wings! I know as soon as she can she will be off Sad she is already talking with joy at the prospect of her gap year and how she fancies going to Uni in the States. I think DS will be around much longer! He is a home bird and will probably be around until his 40s!!

OP posts:
GettinGhoulish · 18/10/2010 18:15

Piste, that's interesting. A friend of mine had a parent put a letter through her door during a friendship dispute, telling her that her dd wasn't welcome at a party, etc, then the dc made it up after all that fuss. Some people go way ott, I can imagine the parents were just as difficult sometimes!

Wouldn't it be good if we could choose their friends?

Ds thankfully is happier tonight Smile I want him to begin to learn how to cope.

Does your ds do any activities after school/etc? Mine doesn't want to do anything, says he's got better things to do at home!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/10/2010 18:34

They sound similar GG!

With DD we are always having to rein her in. She would do stuff every day and all weekend. Now she is rowing and has taken to it so well she is going to have to give other stuff up like swimming club/ riding. There just aren't the hours in the day!

On the polar opposite is DS. He wants to be at home -and we are always having to encourage him to try stuff. He has done beavers/ Cubs and now Scouts and is at swimming club too. He is very competant and strong but never wants to be in any gala which they really don't like! He has tried gymnastics, golf and riding but not anymore. He does love having mates over but now he doesn't get home until 4.45 that is off the menu as there is always so much homework. He has just taken up electric guitar and joined photography club at school on his own volition and this is the first time this has ever happened. It has always been DH and me driving him before. Maybe he needed to be that bit older.

I'd lost 2lbs this morning but am sure I've put it on again as had friends around this afternoon and made apple & cranberry cake which is just delicious and I scoffed loads of it. I'm blaming it on looming AF! I think it will be BNS only for the rest of the week if I want to get to 12st by DD's bday on Sat.

Piste - I interviewed for UAS (the RAF equiv of CCF once you get to Uni) at Cambridge as I wanted to learn to fly for free and do all the really fun sounding outward bound stuff but had no intention of doing anything forces related long term. As it was, I ended up being on crutches for a month after that by which time they'd learned too much for me to catch up. I'm still disappointed to have missed out.

GT - I envy you your toned bum. I really should get out running again. It must be so ahard seeing your DS struggling and knowing tthat you can't march in and sort it out. YYou sound so supportive of him which will hhelp him. I remember when I was having a mmiserable time at primary school how nice iit was to come home and have a hug from my Mum. If your DS were to do cubs or something, would it mainly be with boys from his school or different boys? My Mum made me join Brownies which was a completely different bunch of people and I instantly became really good friends with a few of them which gave me some confidence and meant tthat at weekends and birthdays there were some people I definitely wanted to meet up with/invite. I'm having lunch with one of those friends tomorrow, 25 or so years after we met!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2010 21:27

Well done murtette - fab weight loss!!!

GG - sorry to hear ds still not having a great time at school. Agree it would be good for him to have some other friends and to join cubs/judo/football/rugby etc

my steak was yummy. Dh made a marinade of mustard and bit if garlic and chilli. Did it as 5points

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2010 08:16

Murtette. Fab loss well done. Yes DD loves the outward bound stuff too. I am glad because many of the girls her age are getting terribly precocious and over the top re boys. They are just 13 ffs!! So we are glad she is into her sport and stuff. May it last!

GG I second cubs for your son. Could he try? Both my two go to guides and scouts with children not at their school and DS always talks about his scout friends. There is no pressure at cubs, school has nothing to do with it and he may well find a broader group of mates?

Off to work now!

GettinGhoulish · 19/10/2010 10:31

I mentioned going for drumming lessons last night, he was having none of it Biscuit from him. He has a grown up cousin who plays drums in a band, won't be able to see him till xmas but I am driving him over there for the day to encourage him and get cousin to hopefull persuade him.

I'll mention cubs but he is a stubborn one and says he's not doing any clubs [hhmm] just in case he has an overly strict 'teacher' there like the one at Karate which he tried when he was 5 and came back upset. If I go on about it he'll dig his heels in even more.

He has a couple of friends (mums are my friends) doesn't play with at school, so making an effort to see them.

Thanks all for suggestions, I have one sensitive boy and an easy going go with the flow girl, she is rarely upset about anything and goes around helping everybody else!

murtette congrats on your loss. I may have a toned bum but also a sticky out tummy which really needs to go. That apple and cranberry cake sound gorgeous. I am overrun with apples atm and thinking of cooking an apple crumble cake.

Piste sounds like a whole new world to look forward to re teenage girls

jodie you and me both having a bad weekend, no way I could resist triple choc cheesecake

blondes your dh is talented with his cooking, sausages and now steak

bebejones · 19/10/2010 10:50

Murtette - well done on loss! Fab!

Think it was Pretty who said bout the kilner jars in Sains?! Mine was all sold out!! Typical! Bought some cheap marmalade for the jars, will have to try & think of something to cook with it Hmm :o

Got Mincemeat cooking now, house smells all Christmassy! :)

Blondes - I could murder a steak! YUM!

GG - Your poor DS, maybe he'll come out of his shell a bit when he hits his teens? Agree that some non school related club might help him. Karate is quite formal so cubs where they do a range of things might be more the thing?!

My poor DD has a horrid bug :( Her temp was 38.4 after calpol & ibuprofen yesterday afternoon, the it shot up again. Gave her more Calpol at bedtime & an hour later she woke up screaming, bright red, covered in a puffy rash with a temp of 38.8 and struggling to breathe :( Long story short we ended up at the hospital seeing the out of hours GP! She has a nasty viral infection & her glands are all swollen. They were concerned about her temperature so need to keep an eye on it. I hate it when she is poorly, feel so helpless!

Am being good...well trying to be, did have some left over crumble last night! Blush

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2010 12:57

Aww bebe. Your poor dd and how scary for you. Rash and high temp and I immed think of menigitis / glad not !!!!

I'm also at hospital :( fell off kerb and got very sore swollen ankle :(

bebejones · 19/10/2010 13:11

Blondes - :( Doesn't sound good! My dad did that years and years ago & the doctors never actually figured out what he'd done it was all very odd! Here's hoping it's a sprain that will heal quickly & not a broken bone
