Well the 2 pints made about a tablespoon of cottage cheese. The consistency was fine and it tasted like normal cottage cheese but it did seem rather a small amount for all that milk!

saltcod · 05/10/2010 11:03

There's a great offer on here for a low carb, high protein milkshake mix - only 99p inc. free delivery (RRP £10.95) here

Only 1 per household. I find these shakes great when you're sick of bacon & eggs!

zaazaa · 05/10/2010 12:38

I know it seems a lot but usually i end up with a bit more than that, normally about a cupful. I suggested it in case you wanted to make your own definitely, 100% fat free cottage cheese and be really sttrict. Glad it tasted OK though Smile

i am congratulating myelf on being able to make the galette and flip it over in one piece! I felt like I had really achieved something as every other one i made has broken into bits when I tried to turn it!

Down by 1/2lb today. It is slow but at least it is moving in the right direction and my waist band feels a bit looser today.

Coca · 05/10/2010 12:42

Hello Ladies, I started yesterday and am feeling a little overwhelmed! Please tell me that it gets easier, I'm fine with getting rid of the obvious carbs but I find that I have thought constantly about food since I bought the book! (not craving just slightly obsessed)

robin3 · 05/10/2010 13:56

Coca, I found it got easier...first few days is a massive adjustment. Then amazingly for me (given I usually have a diet which is border line veggie), I started to feel well and full up. Week two was quite easy as I got better at thinking of protein ideas and I've been on Proteins days only throughout with vitamins. This week proving trickier but only because I stupidly made roast potatoes at the weekend and have stumbled across nibbles in the office a couple of times! But the other thing that's been good is that I haven't been tempted to sacrifice the whole day after succumbing to the odd treat, whereas I tended to do that on other diets. I've managed to convince myself that having a protein only dinner is still going to be a great benefit even if I had a glass of wine after work.

It helps me if I eat good quality proteins like lovely ham, lovely fish, smoked salmon, roast beef slices etc. Also if you like Balsamic then apply lots because it really enhances all cold meats and fish. Soy sauce with fresh tuna is good. If you like the odd latte then get a cup of Skimmed Milk and microwave for 2 mins and it froths a little for coffee. Make the galettes in the evening as they feel substantial and are nice with 0% fromage frais and salmon. With the recommended sugar replacement and some yoghurt they seem like those pancakes that you used to get in Pancake Place in the 80's.
Hope this helps a little.

badlashes · 05/10/2010 15:34

Hi,

I started attack yesterday and am finding it really easy so far - however I have a date tonight - dinner, drinks and cinema so I know its going to go out of the window :(

Now, I'm fine with getting back on it tomorrow as I have a clear run of 3 days but then I have a party on Saturday.

I guess my question is - whatever I eat tonight will my body hold on to it more as I've been only having protein?

How do you cope with social events etc?

Thanks

robin3 · 05/10/2010 17:13

Dinner might be fine if you can choose a steak and veg or any lean meat with the veg allowed. Coffee no desert.
Cinema....bucket of Diet Coke or skinny latte, rather than bucket of revels?
Drinks....assuming you need alcohol (which I always did on any date), then couple of glasses of white wine which don't fit diet but limits the damage.
I dont think your diet will effect how your body deals with what you eat at all. Challenge might be making sure you can eat enough protein at dinner to not fall over after two glasses of wine. I think I might be tempted to eat something before I go out...less tempted to stray when you're not starving hungry.

PandaBear · 06/10/2010 08:12

Morning All - another 2lbs down for me today so I'm really pleased. However, we do have friends coming to stay for the weekend which inevitably always involves lots of lovely food and lots of lovely wine - so I'm sure it will all go wrong then. I will try to be good though...... honestly Hmm

LL I'm also a bit confused...clothes feeling looser and sticking to the diet 95% of the time. 100% most days. Last week I weighed in one morning at 11st 4lbs then yesterday 11st 8lbs and then this morning 11st 6lbs....I'm all over the place. But I'm going to stick to this if it's the last thing I do! Another 3 weeks to loose this last half stone.

Have a dinner party on Sat night and can't be rude and not eat the starter, veg or pudding so that'll be interesting.

Katisha · 06/10/2010 10:21

Water retention water retention water retention.
Masks actual fat loss.

Dukandoit · 06/10/2010 10:48

Hi all,

I'm still trying to follow the diet, but quite distracted as I have visiting friends. Trying to keep the carbs limited rather than none at all. So far so good , and I've lost another pound. I think mainly due to massive physical work moving rooms and furniture around to make space for visitors Grin
Still not getting terrible hunger cravings as I have done before with previous attempts at diets. So satisfying that clothes feeling looser, and still 4.5 pounds to go till my target. Well done to panda for resisting the roasties, something I didn't manage last night.

ihatethecold · 06/10/2010 10:50

can i just say fellow dukan soldiers.
i dont really post on here much. i mostly lurk whilst skiving at work.

i have found it really helpful to read all your posts good and bad to see that we are all giving it a go, losing some weight. sometimes slower than we hoped when we started. me included..
keep up the good work ladies.. now where's my shape yoghurt gone...

Katisha · 06/10/2010 11:14

I am going to have to email Dr Dukan with my now proven theory that Spooks is bad for this diet.
Ep 1. Chocolate eclairs.
Ep 2. Half tub chocolate custard.
Ep 3. Half box of wedding anniv present chocolates.

insertexpletive · 06/10/2010 11:37

LOL Katisha
Can I add Criminal Minds to your proven list of bad for you tv programmes?

Well, I have lost the 1lb that had gone on over the weekend and another 1lb - which considering I am now on the consolidation phase is a bit Confused

badlashes - really want to hear how your date went...

robin3 I would agree that weight jumping around like that can only be water retention so don't let it stress you out too much.

I have a little trick that works for me - if I have cheated, I up the water stakes considerably and that seems to limit the damage.
I think what is important to remember on this diet is that unlike Atkins, it is not reliant on your body going into ketosis. It is low carb, low fat and low calorie so although Dukan would say that you can't cheat, I actually find that as long as you don't go over the top, one cheat is not going to ruin your last three days iyswim.

Not that I am an expert you understand - please feel free to ignore if I am talking drivel Grin

Keep going everyone!

OP posts:
robin3 · 06/10/2010 11:55

That's exactly what I've been wondering about Insert. I haven't really cheated badly i.e. I've only scoffed 1 roast potato on Sunday, had 1 glass of wine on Friday night, accepted a cup of tea with semi-skimmed milk in it....not exactly wild is it? I reckon even with these tiny additions every 3 to 4 days I'm still well under a total calorie intake of 1200 a day. If you follow this diet to the letter, it has got to be nigh on impossible to eat more than 1200 calories a day. I was therefore beginning to question if the biology of eating one carb item throws the body totally off. Good and very motivating to hear that it doesn't as that is the impossible thing about Atkins and I've been quite proud that I have been able to control the urge to have 1 then have 6 more whatevers...

Also quickly wanted to ask if Xylitol is an ok sweetener...says its low Gi and lower carb than sugar on the front of the pack but doesnt mention in his book. Just fancied some sweet galettes with sweet creme fraiche on them and have Xylitol in the house.

insertexpletive · 06/10/2010 12:09

Not sure about the sweetener - I have splenda at home and use what ever is available in my coffee when out and about.

I think the whole ketosis thing and high fat/calorie is what put me off Atkins - with a high fat and calorie diet, you are reliant on ketosis and so that chocolate bar is going to set you back three days - I have not found Dukan to be like this.

I really need to know that I can maintain my weight for the next three months as I can't help thinking about Christmas (sorry Blush) where I just know all this diet stuff will go out of the window...

I'll be ok at Christmas except for the wine and if I go to my MIL's where every year she literally drapes the house in nibbles...quality street, nuts, crisps, plates of cheese etc. etc.
As I grew up in a house where a box of chocolates was expected to last a fortnight and you might get a G&T if you were lucky, my MIL's home is like a calorific Christmas fantasy. The Sunday roasts literally have yorkshire pudding balanced on the top of the mountain of meat and veg.
She also HATES the thought that anyone could possibly be on a diet...thinks it's self-indulgent, attention seeking and ridiculous.
Literally the less I see of her the longer I'll live.

zaazaa · 06/10/2010 15:32

I seem to be losing weight by 1/4lb increments Sad. Anyone else had this? I am being extra good and even on PV days have little veg....

Help!

ps. Badlashes, how was the date?

zaazaa · 06/10/2010 15:35

coco, I think at first this is normal as you are eating in adifferent way and because it is quite a restrictive list in attack phase, you have to be more inventive with your food.

Try going to www.mydukandiet.com for lots of recipe ideas for all of the phases. Stay strong. I started a little before you and although the weight is not falling off like it is with some people, at least the scales are going down.

I think my scales are broken, after day 2 of attack they said I had lost 7lbs (fatty fat fat so possible) Then this morning (day four) NOTHING! How can I not have lost weight on an attack day? Angry

saltcod · 07/10/2010 19:46

ZaaZaa I mostly lose weight in 0.2 - 0.4lb increments too. I've had 2 or 3 losses of 1lb or greater per day but these have then been followed by an increase or no loss the next day. At least the general trend is down though - nearly 9lbs now. Just 0.8lb off my 1st target of getting below 11 stone Blush

Have today discovered weightwatchers yoghurts which have less carbs than the mueller ones, purely because the pots are smaller!

Feelingsensitive · 07/10/2010 21:28

May I join you all?

I am finishing my 2 days of the attack phase today so will weigh in tomorrow morning.

I am waiting for my book to arrive so have read up and understand from tomorrow I can alternate between all protein and protein plus veg days. I have a list of the veg.

I need ideas for breakfast as I dont think I can stomach another egg!

Also lunches if you don't mind.

Dinner is OK as it seems more obvious. Salmon or chicken.

Good luck to everyone!
