Am going to stop eating crap and lose 4 stone. Want to help me stay on the straight and narrow?

That's it really. Need to lose 4 stone, have failed at every diet I've tried so am going back to basics - 3 low fat meals, 2 healthy snacks, 2 litres of water, more exercise.

I have to do it - on a serious note, have two gorgeous DCs and I want to be fit for them - this weight is not good for me and I know that I'm putting myself at risk of heart trouble, diabetes etc etc - and what's more, I want to wear a size 12 again - instead of size 20 for fuck's sake.

Have failed on all the summer weight loss threads so am hoping that starting my own will spur me on! So anyone with me? Or just want to come and shout at me when I want a chunky kit kat?

Thanks Tippychooks and well done on passing up baked goods.

Going: is Orlistat the same as Alli? If it is no wonder you are scared into eating well :o Have thought about it but don't think I could do it. Let us know how you get on with it.

travellingwilbury · 15/09/2010 09:52

Hello all , still on track today . I am going to try and do much the same as yesterday . Have had some fruit this morning and I am going to do myself some scrambled eggs soon .

I managed not to snack last night so really pleased . I am also ignoring alcohol calories , I might get some vodka and a diet mixer as I reckon that will be better than wine .

SparkyMalarky · 15/09/2010 09:59

Ignore the junk food precious. Think of junk food as a one night stand with an attractive stranger - seems like a good idea at the time, but is ultimately unfulfilling and you'll hate yourself in the morning!!

(can you tell I'm home alone this morning?)

Anyway - weighed myself this morning and was down to 15 stone 12 already - 2 pounds off since Sunday! Hurray and thank you ladies:)

So am having a late breakfast (no time before school run!) of crumpets (suprisingly low in fat) with a tiny bit of proactive spread and a yogurt and a banana.

Still not loving soya milk in my tea and coffee but I'm persisting!

Have a good day everyone :)

Hello. Well done everyone - some great will power going on.... can I have some!

Had dreadful night last night. Late back with kids, then homework, baths etc. Eventually sat down at 9.30 with lovely wholesome tuna sandwich.... put on telly and then had a big choc muffin... and two packets of hula hoops. What a bloater. I need help!

I've just been to get an M&S ready meal for tonight... wish me luck. x

Good a good one all.

Tippychoocks · 15/09/2010 10:19

I am thinking of getting some scales, or will it become an obsession?

I'm off the alcohol anyway so no calories there but I have eaten a crumpet. That's what I was referring to pompously as "baked goods" - we seem to have a freezer full of muffins (toasty ones), crumpets, rolls and bread. So I didn't avoid them for long Grin. But I looked at the packet and a slice of toast would have been over 100 calories and a crumpet 74. So in a way I'm OK Hmm

Am STARVING though, spent the morning scaring mice out of the shed and tidying the garden. All that fresh air and exercise made me have to come indoors for a MN break and snack Blush

Looneymum, be strong Smile

travellingwilbury · 15/09/2010 10:34

Tippy , I have got some weight watchers scales which are accurate to a 1/4 pound and I am really hoping they will keep me motivated . I do think that if you do get them you have to try and only weigh once maybe twice a week otherwise it can become an obsession .

If you are starving then you really need to go and eat something otherwise if you are like me you will end up pigging out . What about an omelette ? I always find eggs are good at keeping me full for longer .

Good luck Looney , a new day Grin

Well done Sparky , it is fab to see those numbers going down isn't it ? I am going to weigh myself tomorrow and hopefully will have lost at least a pound and that will keep me going .

Tippychoocks · 15/09/2010 10:36

Thanks travelling, am OK now, was typing as I ate Blush.

I currently work out loss by how I look and how close I am at getting into my old clothes. But maybe scales would be a motivation plus Hmm.

travellingwilbury · 15/09/2010 10:38

I do think your way of doing it is better tbh but I am just impatient and want to know if I have lost and how much and hopefully it will keep me motivated .

Tippychoocks · 15/09/2010 10:44

I'm coming round to yours to have a weigh-in wilbury Grin. I do want some now. I also saw a body fat monitor in a charity shop that I nearlybought - it looked like a pair of foam handlebars, very odd. But I was too scared to buy it Grin

travellingwilbury · 15/09/2010 10:53

I will pop the kettle on Grin

Not sure I want to know about fat % tbh .Might be a bit scary. Also I don't know how they can work it out ?

Tippychoocks · 15/09/2010 10:58

I know, how on earth can they? There are scales that pretend they can do it too.
Sounds a bit scammy to me so I will stick to my skinny jeans test Grin

travellingwilbury · 15/09/2010 11:11

Right I better go and do something useful this morning . Got to pick up my youngest at 12 and I have achieved pretty much bugger all thi morning .

Good luck Grin

SparkyMalarky · 15/09/2010 11:23

My scales tell you your body fat percentage. I don't look at it as it makes me weep.

looneymum · 15/09/2010 12:09

Thanks Trav and Tip - it's nearly lunchtime - hurray! So, here's the plan. Have lunch (some sort of salad wrap) plus large cup of coffee. Then get straight back to work (without aid of evil biscuit tin).

The whole whether to jump on and off the scales thing is a difficult one. It is good to see the weight going down as a boost but when the pounds go back on I find myself placing the bath towel on the top of them before I get into the shower.

Well done you losers!

Niecie · 15/09/2010 13:53

Hello everybody. Survived DS2's birthday. Back to being sensible today and doing OK.

I say that but I went to Sainsburys today and somehow a gorgeous cookbook of cupcakes, muffins and biscuits ended up in my trolley. Blush

I suppose looking at the pictures can't do any harm can it?

Niecie · 15/09/2010 14:00

I am a serial weigher and it is not good. I wish I was stronger. Your weigh does fluctuate over the course of the week and I know I should only do it once a week but every morning I find myself there, on the scales, peering at the reading and wondering if I went to the loo or took my pjs off whether it would be any better.

On one hand, if my weight has gone down that is always good and gives me a boost. On the other hand, there is no knowing what my reaction to it going up will be. It could be 'oh no, I need to do better today' which is good - a bit of motivation.

Or it can be 'sod it, I'll have some toast and worry about it again tomorrow' which is not so good obviously.

I wish I could just not look so often!

chocolatespiders · 15/09/2010 15:55

Hi all

I am having a another good day (long may it last!!!) this thread is def keeping me on track so thanks all...

Today i have had toast for breakfast and cheese and salad for lunch..

Tonight going to watch football which is normally a junk food haven--- must must resist the maltesers and m&m's

lizziemun · 15/09/2010 16:32

Can I join.

As someone said earlier I'm fed up of feeling tired/depressed.

I would like to get down to a size 10/12 from size 16.

Like most of you I'm picking at night when I'm not hungry just bored/tired so I'm getting my sewing out as I can't pick and sew Grin. I'm also going to start doing the WII fit again. I did lose over a stone doing it before but got pg and stopped, and haven't got back into doing it.

solo · 15/09/2010 17:08

Well, I failed last night and had cereal Blush

Today I have walked 9k and that's just outside, not in the house as well. My feeeeet huuuurt! Tomorrow may be just half the milage as I am meant to be going to lunch but I'll try to be good.

Today so far has been small cereal, cheese and pickle sandwih, plus a crust and spread. Tea, tea and more tea (I never think to drink water as it tastes pretty nasty). Tonight is shepherds pie at my brothers at short notice...

I'm pleased with my walking efforts to be honest, I just hope I can keep it up and judging by the walkmate calculations; a normal week will be 28 miles...I reserve the right to take the car now and again Grin

travellingwilbury · 15/09/2010 17:58

solo having a bowl of cereal is not failing in my book , I think that is a result . Unless of course it was 4 bowls of coco pops .

Well done on the walking , that is a hell of a distance every day / week.

Hiya Lizzie , good luck Grin

chocolatespiders · 15/09/2010 18:35

cereal is def a good idea for evening munchies as you can curb your sweet tooth with it as well... I like to have 4 small ammounts of different cereals in one bowl

Tippychoocks · 15/09/2010 20:17

Blimey solo. I once had a pedometer (free with something) and I had done my 11,000 steps by about 10.30 Grin. Not driving is a blessing sometimes.
OK day here. Ate some of DD's smarties cos she saves me the orange ones (bless her) but that was only 4 or 5. Leek soup again and I had a bit of wholemeal bread but didn't want it so.......I DIDN'T EAT IT!. Which is not my usual pattern, normally I eat when it is time to eat, hungry or no, and eat a "proper" meal. So perhaps I am starting to listen to my insides.
Early days though and I haven't done the PMT test which was my downfall chocolate-wise last month.

NickOfTime · 15/09/2010 21:53

ooo, leek soup. yum.

i love homemade soup. normally i make vats of the stuff when i'm being sensible about eating, but i don't seem to have the time at the mo. maybe i can dedicate this weekend to soupery and freeze loads. actually, freezing it is a good idea, as i can freeze in sensible protions. otherwise i scoff the whole pan.

reasonably good day so far - porridge for b'fast and sensible s'wich for lunch. dinner will be late though, so i'm going to have to grit my teeth and be sensible in town.

i'm thinking of reintroducing the lovely davina dvd into this exercise, as i don't seem to be running. it is soooooo cold in the morning i don't want to get out of bed. (dh is claiming it's not time for the heating yet). i might try and get up at the same time as dh tomorrow and do one of the power of 3 things...

how are you all doing with upping your exercise?

LRB978 · 15/09/2010 22:09

Well done everyone for today.

45 minutes of kickboxing tonight, always feel good after that :) Am hopefully going to be upping kickboxing to twice a week, and am going to try and remember to hand in the form for membership of the staff gym at work tomorrow, will hopefully get 1-2 sessions a week in there as well )just need to have the babysitters available).

Food today:
Breakfast - tinned tomatoes, one slice of toast with a scraping of butter
Mid-morning - Muller light yoghurt
Lunch - salad (as yesterday), 2 slices bread and scraping of butter
Dinner - Chicken, 2 scoops mashed potato, sprinkle of cheese, cauliflower and cabbage.
After kickboxing: Freddo frog Blush
Drinks - Fizzy flavoured water, juice and diet lemonade

Total portions:
Carbs: 6 (5-8 allowed)
Protein: 4 (2-4 allowed)
Dairy: 4 (2-4 allowed)
Fats: 4 (0-3 allowed, the one I really struggle with)
Fruit, veg, salad: 6 (5+ allowed, max 3 fruit)
Drinks: Not enough, but more than yesterday.

Tippychoocks · 15/09/2010 22:21

No exercise bar dog walking and walking to school. Am gardening and turning out every cupboard in the house to sort through tho Grin

For leek soup I used 3 leeks, 2 teeny onions and a clove of garlic whizzed with stock, water and one grated potato (small). It's made a huge pan and I am assuming is low cal as it is just veggies and each bowl can have no more than 1/16th of a spud in! It is very nice with cheese on top but that's not very diet-y so better with black pepper.
