Am going to stop eating crap and lose 4 stone. Want to help me stay on the straight and narrow?

That's it really. Need to lose 4 stone, have failed at every diet I've tried so am going back to basics - 3 low fat meals, 2 healthy snacks, 2 litres of water, more exercise.

I have to do it - on a serious note, have two gorgeous DCs and I want to be fit for them - this weight is not good for me and I know that I'm putting myself at risk of heart trouble, diabetes etc etc - and what's more, I want to wear a size 12 again - instead of size 20 for fuck's sake.

Have failed on all the summer weight loss threads so am hoping that starting my own will spur me on! So anyone with me? Or just want to come and shout at me when I want a chunky kit kat?

looney that is true if I can get under the dreaded 13 mark I will feel like I am getting somewhere . Good luck with the biscuit avoidance .

I think I might have scrambled eggs on toast for b.fast , that way I won't snack and wait until lunch for food . Salad for lunch I think and no idea about dinner . I am making a curry today which is ok to have but no naan bread and will skip the rice .

Niecie · 14/09/2010 09:57

Good morning.

You all sound very positive and up beat today.

I am doomed to have a bad day as it is DS2's birthday and apart from birthday cake, he wants to go to Pizza Hut for his tea. I would rather do Pizza Express and at least i can get one of their lovely reduced fat/calorie pizzas but never mind.

As it happens, I am doing the Alternate Day diet which was working well for me for a few months. Today is a less restricted day so at least I am not sabotaging my whole plan on day 2.

I think the reason it stopped working was that I needed to up activity levels. So, since we are having guests for birthday cake this afternoon, I am going to do some very energetic house cleaning today (it needs it!). If I leave it to the last minute, it is guaranteed to get me flushed of face and sweaty so it must be burning calories, mustn't it??!!

Have a good day everybody!

Tippychoocks · 14/09/2010 09:59

Has anyone else found it impossible to shift baby weight, ages after the birth? I put on loads while pg then breastfed for nearly 2 years. Lost nothing, even when bf. My mum said that she was the same and kept it on until she stopped bf. A year and a half later and I still haven't shifted anything worth talking about.

I used to be able to just avoid the odd bag of chips and it would come off. I'm so ooooolllllld Sad

Preciousdaisybear · 14/09/2010 12:12

Tippychooks snap! Not only have I not been able to shift baby weight have added to it as well! I seem to remember with DS1 that I did lose weight when bf with no bother at all but now I am the dreaded 40 my metabolism has slowed to a crawl. Being old is rubbish - esp because I still feel 25! grr

Tippychoocks · 14/09/2010 12:26

I am 31 so shouldn't be so oldish Grin but the reason I've got overweight is that I used to be very active and if I got a bit flabby I would just lay off a bit.I've kept up the eating habits but stopped the activity to the same extent and it seems to have stuck since being pg Sad Iwonder if it's hormonal as I was chubby as a teenager then lost it all at 16.

Not for long though. Resisted DD's cheese on toast this lunchtime and ate quantities of salad instead.

SparkyMalarky · 14/09/2010 14:28

'ello lovelies - how's everyone doing?

Happy birthday Niecie's DS - and yes housework will certainly negate any birthday cake consumed later!

And welcome all our new slim jims (love that solo!).

I've avoided all the leftovers so far - DD squished her sandwich so badly that it looked incredibly unappetising which was good! But I did succumb to a skinny muffin with my coffee this morning - although I shared a little bit with DD(but she didn't get her sticky paws on the lovely lemony icing though!).

Breakfast was yogurt and a handful of granola, lunch was a prawn and avocado sandwich with a tiny bit of mayo - that's not too bad is it?

I'm really struggling to drink enough though - I feel like I never get to finish a glass of water. I think that will be tomorrow's challenge.

Love the idea of knitting/sewing to distract you from eating - I'm trying that again too - I definitely eat when I'm bored and/or tired in the evening so I need to stop that.

I've been trying soya milk though (good for your cholesterol) and it's just not the same in a cup which is supposed to be my evening treat to distract me from chocolate! I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Oh have waffled on a bit (mmmmm, waffles). Anyone need shouting at? Grin

Hello Ladies,

I hope I can join you all.

I have a few stones to lose. I recently lost over a stone but last week I noticed it is going back on again! I have been exercising and have also just started (after lunch today!) taking Orlistat. I really hope it works as a dterent to stop me having the one biscuit that will turn into the whole packet!

I am not going to way myself because if I only lose a lb in a week I feel really disheartened and satrt binging again. I will be weighed in a months at my gp and am really hoping for a good result.

CrispyTheCrisp · 14/09/2010 14:39

Hello ladies Smile

Just popping on to say that i was in your same situation last year, needing to lose 4 stone. Well, i managed it, but as others have said, not through a faddy 'diet' (and i have done all these in my time Blush, but by eating well and exercising. Bloody dull at times but pretty effective.

I used to log all my food and exercise on FoodFocus which is a free website. What is good is that you can eat or drink anything........., just not quite as much as you might like HmmGrin. Portion control it turned out was my downfall and this really helped.

Good luck to you all, i couldn't have done it without similar MN ladies like you Smile

NickOfTime · 14/09/2010 15:55

blimey - this got busy yesterday!

i'm still here, just mad busy.
porridge ritual going ok and seems to stave off mid morning 'eat everything in sight' period.

this week really busy and i'm not organised enough to have planned round it, so will be going to grocery store tonight to prevent grabbing food-court heart-attack-in-a-bag fare to prevent starvation.

right, porridge next. (have managed to plan long walk with dogs into today's schedule, but won't be until 9pm lol... every single minute until then is counted for. )

that doesn't sound too bad, until you realise it's not yet 9am here...

re-post baby.... um. my youngest is 7yo in a week. i've been getting steadily bigger since she was born (she has cp and i think the combination of less time to exercise and more reason to comfort eat has been a disaster for my weight lol)

SparkyMalarky · 14/09/2010 18:20

Bugger. Just had a gingerbread man. A big one. With smarties for buttons.

But rather than go on for a binge, am going to clean my teeth, have some water and try to forget about his friend in the cupboard.

Today has not been brilliant has it.

How's everyone else?

Crispy - it is fab to hear it worked for you - how long did it take you to lose the weight?

OP posts:
travellingwilbury · 14/09/2010 18:29

Crispy thanks for the inspiration , well done on keeping it off too .

Sparky , step away from the gingerbread Grin Like you say don't let it turn into a "bugger it might as well start tomorrow now and eat the other one" (would be my normal reasoning)

Not now though I am going to do this . I have just had my tea , just had the curry and no rice or naan so all good . It is early for me to eat my meal though so I am going to be struggling later . Better have another early night then .

Good luck Nick , that sounds like a busy old day ,porridge is def the best start to the day but I don't like it .

bananastainsonallmytops · 14/09/2010 18:48

Is it too late to join this thread? :)

I am 5ft and would like to lose 1.5 stone ideally. I lost weight last year but put it all back on again due to being (addicted to biscuits) lack of exercise.

I am a complete beginner to being healthy, so any ideas of what exercise to do/food to eat ect?

I would like to start running ideally Biscuit

Tippychoocks · 14/09/2010 19:35

Had a good day actually but not nearly enough water. I wonder if the rain is putting me off?

Just one coffee, though I may have one later. DD had a biscuit and I nibbled one but gave it to the dog Grin.Luckily all the biscuits had started to taste the same (you know when you put cookies or similar in the tin and they all taste of cookie dust?)so I was saved from myself.

Salad (green with peppers, half an avocado and tomato)for lunch, fruit and yoghurt for breakfast and leek soup for dinner. I did have a small roll with that cos it was just too depressing not to. But still a goodish day I feel.

oooo, Sparky I could just eat his friend for you. Be strong Grin

CrispyTheCrisp · 14/09/2010 20:02

Thanks Travelling Smile. It took 13 months for the 4 stone, the first in under 2 months, second 2 months, third 3.5 months and last 5.5 months!

giraffesCantDanceInBrokenHeels · 14/09/2010 21:39

I am proud - got a box of 20 chocolates at work today - I ate some with a cuppa tea. Shared some with a friend and left the rest for my bosses :) (If I had taken them home would have scoffed the lot) Apart from that been very good. Resisted choc at friends house and at toddler group. And took children on a long walk to park Grin

Just spent the evening cleaning out cupboard and junk rather than sitting doing nothing adn eating. Have to say tummy feels a bit flatter!

welcome banana

sparky did you manage to resist anything else after gb man? At least it was only one and not a whole pack eh?

SparkyMalarky · 14/09/2010 22:19

Hello banana and welcome :)

Well done on not eating all the chocolates giraffe - and tippy, sounds like you had a great day - the weight will be dropping off us!

Crispy that's the best way to lose weight isn't it - slowly and surely - well done, and for keeping it off.

Nick - did the porridge work its magic today? And where are you that you're so many hours behind us?

How's everyone else done?

There is still a little gbman in our cupboard - so I managed to resist! Had an omelette with half fat cheese followed by a yogurt for supper (didn't eat until almost 9 though after having to label PE kit for tomorrow!) but am hoping the protein will offset the sugar :)

Tomorrow is definitely drink more water day - any suggestions for how to manage 2 litres?

chocolatespiders · 14/09/2010 22:20

hi all

not to bad a day here started with porridge and banana, lunch was soup and pitta bread and apple, dinner was chicken and veg, and dd's toast crusts with choc spread

this for me is a very very controlled day, sparky i am very much like you in that i know if i have something i class as naughty i just wipe the day out and go binge crazy, this is a major downfall of mine and one i would like to break, and i would also like to just have one or 2 biscuits like others at my work and not want to scoff the whole pack..

LRB978 · 14/09/2010 22:23

Happy birthday Niecie's ds.
Congrats to everyone who has managed to loose weight.

Well, I've had a good day, though getting the munchies now. Am gonna go have a bath in a minute, try and distract myself.

Food today:
Breakfast - tinned tomatoes, one slice of toast with a scraping of butter
Mid-morning - Muller light yoghurt
Lunch - salad (lettuce, grated beetroot, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, pepper, 1/4 ball of mozzerella, smoked salmon), 2 slices bread and scraping of butter
Dinner - River cobbler (fish, again!), tomatoes, red onion, pepper, lemon, mushroom (all baked in the oven with the fish), egg noodles and cabbage.
Drinks - Fizzy flavoured water, small can coke (am slowly weaning myself off it), juice and diet lemonade

Total portions:
Carbs: 6 (5-8 allowed)
Protein: 4 (2-4 allowed)
Dairy: 3 (2-4 allowed)
Fats: 3 (0-3 allowed, the one I really struggle with)
Fruit, veg, salad: 8+ (5+ allowed, max 3 fruit)
Drinks: Not enough, and had a coke :( Better than before I started though.

Preciousdaisybear · 14/09/2010 22:37

Well done everyone today. We should be proud of ourselves. I am struggling with the water thing too - does squash count? I am going to the gym tomorrow and DS3 going into creche. Can't say I'm excited about the prospect but need to build up some credit for the weekend as DS1 is off to his first cub camp (2 nights away) and DS2 is off to granny's which just leaves us with the baby so hopefully get some mummy and daddy time heh heh!! Can see there is going to be a takeaway going on. Can anyone advise on 'healthy' options?

solo · 14/09/2010 22:48

Hey all! I've been really good today too; small bowl of muesli type cereal with milk, 1 cheese and pickle sandwich and a 1/4 chicken and bacon pie with green beans, broccolie and new potatoes. I also walked around 4 miles in total and am absolutely knackered! Grin

Have been considering a small bowl of cereal or slice of bread as I'm hungry!!! helllllllllp!

NickOfTime · 15/09/2010 04:53

we're in canada, moved away from uk last year with work.

it's quaker organics porridge, but with flax and something else - it's the only one i like now tbh, i find the others either really sweet or have too much added salt. Grin (i am quite fussy...)

i'm now dreaming about gingerbread men though. with smarties...

giraffesCantDanceInBrokenHeels · 15/09/2010 07:18

Morning :) I'm just about to go to work, another miserable day here, rain rain rain. Had breakfast today before work - will have cuppa when arrive. Going swimming today with youngest. Hope you all have a good day and manage to stay away from the choc/crisps etc ! :)

Preciousdaisybear · 15/09/2010 07:22

Morning all! Feeling weak today. Been up most of night with DS3 and have aleady decided not going to gym. It's also lashing with rain. Help! This is the type of day I would curl up and eat rubbish all day long. Doesn't help that my DS1's play pieces for school are calling from the cupboard. Will try to stick it out but send me your power! I WILL NOT EAT BICCIES/TOAST/CHOCOLATE/CRISPS etc etc etc...

Tippychoocks · 15/09/2010 08:26

Sending willpower precious. I have bypassed lots of lovely baked goods this morning in favour of an apple and yoghurt. DD at pre-school so have a morning in the garden as it's finally stopped raining.

I do really fancy coffee and toast though Sad

going · 15/09/2010 08:47

Preciousdaisybear Squash does count as water as it keeps you hydrated.
I also struggle with drinking enough water.

Had a good day yesterday but taking Orlistat is scaring me into eating well! Also knowing I have reached the point that I have had to ask for this kind of help makes me relaise how bad things have got Sad
