Am going to stop eating crap and lose 4 stone. Want to help me stay on the straight and narrow?

That's it really. Need to lose 4 stone, have failed at every diet I've tried so am going back to basics - 3 low fat meals, 2 healthy snacks, 2 litres of water, more exercise.

I have to do it - on a serious note, have two gorgeous DCs and I want to be fit for them - this weight is not good for me and I know that I'm putting myself at risk of heart trouble, diabetes etc etc - and what's more, I want to wear a size 12 again - instead of size 20 for fuck's sake.

Have failed on all the summer weight loss threads so am hoping that starting my own will spur me on! So anyone with me? Or just want to come and shout at me when I want a chunky kit kat?

Lotkins: did the whole Atkins thing a while back (pre kids) and it was tough because most of my diet at that point revolved around carbs. It took some getting used to and my god was I sick of meat. You should feel better soon. It did work for me combined with a v expensive gym membership that I was determined to get the most of. Stick with it!

Well done everyone for today (except me who had a chicken tikka masala wrap from Tesco for lunch...Blush I am SO CRAP at this.

Had decent day yesterday although tea was a bit carb heavy (soup and toast). We had to go to a school open evening for DS1 who is moving to secondary next year (where did my ickle babies go?) so out for the part of the evening I would normally be making tea.

Doing the same tonight with another school so another night of less than optimum eating - will probably be more carbs and some pasta cos its quick.

Got to think of something really good for Friday!

Hope you all have a good day. Nearly the weekend!!! Smile

Lotkins When I started my diet low fat/cal counting I felt really tired for the first week. My body must have adjusted to my new eating habits as I feel fine now.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 30/09/2010 13:32

i really do feel pants, actually. Glad to know you guys felt crap too if you see what I mean!

I'm doing the dukin diet, but I know from past experience that low carb ie protein / veg and some fruit does make the weight fall off.

I really can't do without fruit, although am trying to for a while. Am going to reintroduce veg tonight, as think soup is the easiest thing to make for all, with pizza for the kids.

DH back late tonight so at least he can always do the school run tomorrow.

hi , i had my third baby in October last year and as with both my previous pregnancy's put nearly four stone on :( , by January this year i felt like a beach whale , didn't even want to look at myself in the mirror so i decided to try the weight watchers diet , my mum had used it and it worked for her so i started it at the beginning of February, i didn't want to go to the meetings on my own so decided to just do it at home , i bought the books etc of ebay and up to now iv lost over 2 stone and am starting to feel a lot better , especially when yesterday managed to get in sum pre pregnancy jeans woooooo lol, i don't exercise as i just haven't got the energy at the moment with my 11 month old still keeping me awake through the night.keep trying everyone its worth it.

SparkyMalarky · 30/09/2010 18:11

Hi nicnacnoo:)

Sorry for going AWOL ladies - we all got hit by a yucky bug in this house and I couldn't face thinking about food really. Might help with the loss as I have stuck at 5 lbs down.

How is everyone feeling? Am slightly scared by the low carbers (niecie - pleased to see you're still on the carbs!)

Giraffes, well done on going to the gym - 20 mins is great.

Niecie · 30/09/2010 19:46

Sorry to hear you haven't been well Sparky - what kind of bug was it? Loads of people round here have had colds. The two DSs have had sniffles although nothing too awful. Don't you just love the new school term and the return of the bugs!?

I can't give up carbs. I am too much of a fussy eater so it would leave a big gap in my diet to give up carbs. I am worried that once I had lost the weight I would start eating carbs again and the weight would all pile back on and I really don't want to go through all this weight loss again!!

solo · 30/09/2010 23:16

I'm going to try the Dukan I think. May alternate that and my detox 'fat flush' diet, which really does work for me, it's just very expensive to buy loads of fruit and veg and finances are dire...:( and I do love my tea...with milk.

Preciousdaisybear · 30/09/2010 23:21

Hi Nicnacnoo well done on losing so much. DS3 is exactly 5 months and I still haven't lost anything. Monkey is up every 2 hours in the night and I am so tired all the time it's hard to think healthy. The days always start well but by the time dinner wends its way around I am so knackered and disorgansied it often becomes a takeaway. SO BAD!!

Anyway will try harder tomorrow...

mamadiva · 30/09/2010 23:40

Hi all, really sorry, I knew I joined a thread but could'nt find it again must put on watch list.

I wrote on ethe first opage that I had joi ned weight watchers and that was 3ish weeks ago I think.

I have joined Weight watchers just for the weigh in (not actually counting points just thinking about portions and when I am actually full) and in 6 weeks I have lost 7.5lbs!!!

I realise it's slow but I'd rather di it that way and it's half a stone away from my 7st loss needed. :o

solo · 01/10/2010 00:14

Well done mamadiva!

mamadiva · 01/10/2010 00:22

Thannks solo how are you getting on with things?

nicnacnoo · 01/10/2010 10:03

hi preciousdaisybear and thanks its been really hard but defo worth it , still got at least another stone to go . i didnt start it sill my youngest was 4 months coz like you was sooooo tired and just cudnt be bothered , but it got to a point where i didnt even want a picture took coz i felt that bad thats when i had to do something. like i said i dont exercise, mainly coz i dont get much sleep with the baba, i did try running but seemed to put some weight on so gave up on that lol.
well done mamadiva on loosing 7.5lbs,its took me 8 months to loose over 2 stone about a pound a week its slow going but im seein the results and i love it just got to keep going now and so do you all , think thin :)

solo · 02/10/2010 01:17

Mamadiva, I'm still grumbling in the corner!

Niecie · 02/10/2010 18:07

Hello all.

I'm quite pleased with myself - I am wearing a skirt that I couldn't wear all last winter because it was too small and now it fits perfectly. Result.Smile

The scales tell me I am at least 1lb down on last week so that is good too - proper weigh in on Monday and, if I get the chance, I might get the tape measure out too.

Just have to be careful not to sabotage it all this weekend.

Mamadiva - well done on your half a stone. I'm a little further into my 7 stone loss because I started in February (lost 2st so far) but I think it took me about 9 weeks to lose the first stone so you are about the same rate as me. It is slow but when I stopped following the plan over the summer it didn't really all pile back on as it would have done if I had done it quickly I suspect so I am happy. Keep going!

Nicnacnoo - 2stone makes a big difference doesn't it! Well done!

mamadiva · 02/10/2010 23:03

Well done Nic and Niecie :o

Can't wait till I start seeing results although I seem to have only one chin now which is always good LOL

Solo you will do it when your ready, there's nothing worse than trying to 'diet' when you just can't get into it, have been there so many times! Infact I am the only person I know who joined weight watchers in 2003 and managed to gain 4 stone since :oBlush

Although to be fair I did'nt attend for very long first time round...

solo · 03/10/2010 01:13

Aw, thanks for the encouragement mamadiva. Not sure why I can't get into it now...mayb e because I've never been so big before and I'm finding it so overwhelming.

mamadiva · 03/10/2010 09:45

Do you go to a slimming club or just weigh in at home?

I found that the only thing that will keep me in check is knowing that someone else will be watching my weight for me, well that and the fact I pay by monthly DD which I am far too lazy to cancel :o

It is scary thinking 'Oh I have 7 stone to lose' so I set myself smaller chunks IYSWIM like when I first went I was 17st9.5lbs so aim 1 was to get under 17.7 then lose half astone and next I want to get under 17st and so on. I personally find this much easier to manage but everyone is different!

WW also sets you a 5% target and a 10% target based on your weight which is also an aim (my 5% is 16st11lbs) I have the book at hand with the 5 and 10's if you want I could tell you yours and it could give you something to aim for!

Sorry I feel as if I'm preaching me, me, me it takes a lot of motivation I've been there so many times before! Blush:o

Preciousdaisybear · 03/10/2010 21:36

Mamadiva I agree with you about going to a slimming club. Last time I lost 3 stone going to Scottish Slimmers which uses a checks system. But it was easier as I went with a chum. She is still slim but I am back to where I started and have no one to go with

I have been back once since trying to lose this baby weight but cos its just me I can't get motivated. So I am with you there Solo

Anyone on this thread who lives in Aberdeen? I need a belly buddy...

solo · 03/10/2010 22:32

Unfortunately I can't afford to join any groups :( but I do have several potential 'plump' friends that I could 'diet' with, it's just my motivation that's lacking. My weighing scales are up the creak and again, no money to replace them yet, so no weighing here...
I'm 15st Mamadiva.

Thanks for the hand holding Precious.

Niecie · 03/10/2010 23:47

Motivation is a funny thing isn't it?

I knew I was overweight for ages - you can't get to nearly 18 stone and not notice that, but knowing that isn't enough. You have to hit rock bottom and find that thing that makes you think enough is enough. It is not pleasant usually. I could forget how awful I looked until I went out shopping for clothes and then I saw this, not to put too finer point on it, fat, middle aged woman out of the corner of my eye, reflected in the mirror wondered who she was and then realised it was me. Every time it was a horrible shock. I've lost 2st and part of me thinks, yay, I'm slimmer now but I still have 5st to lose and I still see the old fat woman when I am out. The trick is not to forget how bad I look the rest of the time and that is the challenge because it is easy to pretend it isn't an issue a lot of the time!

Blush Sorry, got a bit carried away there. Just saying, despite knowing all that, it can be really hard to get motivated.

Solo - I entirely understand you when you say it is all a bit overwhelming when you get so big. You have this enormous mountain to climb and you know it won't suddenly happen overnight (Foodfocus estimates next May for me I think Shock) and you realise that it isn't just tomorrow you have to eat properly for it is the next 9 mths and beyond!!

Actually that is a point, have you tried Foodfocus? It is free and can be a useful tool to work out what you can and should be eating. Would that help things if you can't afford to join a group?

Niecie · 03/10/2010 23:53

Mamadiva - I do the small chunks thing too.

I started at 17.12 so first step was 17.7 because that wasn't a normal fluctuation but real lose. Then 17.5 - half stone. Then getting anything that starting with 16st..., then 16.12, one stone, then 16.7 etc etc.

I've just dipped under 16st now and having a weight that starts with a 15st feels like a bit of milestone.

Lotkinsgonecurly · 04/10/2010 07:42

Gosh, been to a wedding this weekend, was quite good food wise, it could have been worse. Back on it full steam today.

How are you today Solo?

mamadiva · 04/10/2010 08:08

Solo we could all do a weigh in on here, my meeting is on a Thurs night if that's any use so we could weigh in on say a Friday if that would bve okay with everyone else?

The only reason I can get to meeting si because I still get money for b'day and christmas from family so I bank it and set up a DD from that account otherwise I could'nt afford :)

Might help if you are putting your weight in on here and we can all see results IYKWIM.

Precious I am in Elgin which is obv not much use but just thought I'd say :o

I go to WW with my mum who had a whopping, massive 10lbs to lose Hmm but I secretly think she is just coming to make me go :o

Niecie defo agree about motivation!

My major back breaker was when I started a new job and could'nt get a uniform because they only went up to size 18, so had to wear black tshirt and trousers when everyone else wore shirt and trousers Blush. Although have sinnce left said job but still :(

Well done on loss BTW you're doing very well :o
