Starting slimming world today, anyone else starting to lose weight today want to join me for some moral support?

ElizabethWakefield · 30/08/2010 10:15

So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

Does anyone have the food directory??? I am doing SW myself so I don't attend a meeting therefore I don't have access to the website and am thinking of purchasing this to help me with syn values. Is it worth £20?? or should I just carry on with the list in the food optimizing book?

ElizabethWakefield · 17/09/2010 21:12

I don't have the food directory, but have seen it in class, it does seem to have a lot in it, depends how often you will use it I suppose?

If you want to list some of your most commonly used things i could give you the syn values?

I have had a terrible day. Got a phone call at work at 11am from DD's school to say she had fallen and cut all her face, had 2 black eyes, they thought her nose was broken and it had no skin on it, her hands were all scrapped and they couldn't stop her knee from bleeding.

So mad dash from work, picked her up, she looks awful, then she started acting all dazed and confused, couldn't remember falling, couldn't remember if she had been at school or not and couldn't remember what day it was.

So straight to A&E, she started to pick up a bit and they finally said it was mild concussion and cleaned her all up and said to keep the usual head injuries checks.

She has been in so much pain, crying on and off and just generally feeling sorry for herself, as well as still being a little bit confused. It's such a shame for her.

So for dinner I ordered a indian takeaway and ate like a pig, pakora, chicken bhoona, nan bread, popadoms...the lot! I was stressed Blush

Will get back on track tomorrow!

Oh my goodness - what a day, I think u deserved an Indian after all that worry. I hope DD is feeling better soon x Thanku 4 offering 2 help me with sun values - I may just take u up on that.

zookeeper · 17/09/2010 22:04

Thanks Wynken. that'll be at least twenty syns I've just scoffed...

Riadingbetweenthelines · 17/09/2010 23:27

bloody hell! £20? ShockShock There is another forum, the one that they call "the sparkly place" I believe it is a SW forum, so might be of help, although I have never used it as I think you have to pass some sort of initiation to joinWink (it will be linked to an old SW i would think - I don't know it's actual name), also I remember somewhere in my dieting history (though it is a long one) some kind of maths-type formula, but I don't know if it was for working out syns or WW points, and of course, I can't remember it, but it could be on the www somewhere? FWIW I have a directory I bought at a boot sale and most things I look up are too high in syns to even contemplateSad but maybe that's just meWink

EW - how is your DD/ Poor thing.Sad How old is she? My DS2 had a broken nose courtesy of his older brother when he was 3, and then took all the skin off his chin about 3 months later. I started to get very embarrassed about A&E as DH is quite a frequent visitor too.Blush

AngryPixie · 18/09/2010 01:43

Oh dear God have been out playing poker, and have drunk many many beers Blush on the plus side, I don't remember having eaten anything Grin

ditavonteesed · 18/09/2010 07:19

elizabeth hope your dd is feeling a bit better this morning, what a shock, you deffo deserved the curry. pixie, hope you enjoyed I am out later and decided to just forget about it for today (have hangover food planned for tom).

Riadingbetweenthelines · 18/09/2010 12:11

I am very disappointed with myself and have had a virtual kick this morning, followed by porridge.

Lulumaam · 18/09/2010 13:36

elizabeth, sorry about your DD, hope she's better soon

yesterday , i had some king prawns, then dinner at MILs, she'd made chciken ( skinless) , cabbage and green beans and done SW chips for me. I had no alcohol and had a small piece of choccy cake as it was DSs birthday.

today, i've started with all bran & skim milk as my healthy A&B.

had mahoosive jacket potato with two tins of tuna and half a red onion, mixed with one levely tbsp of light salad cream. v v v filling !!

not had any fruit yet today.

doing roast chicken dinner for us again tonight

i shall miss the gravy!

I hope i've lsot some weight by monday

izzybiz · 18/09/2010 13:57

Hi Ladies,
Elizabeth- your poor Dd, hope shes feeling better today!

Well today was weigh day and I have lost another 4.5lbs, thats 9lbs off in just 2 weeks! Grin

Am feeling very pleased with myself as you can imagine, I have been doing more of the extra easy this week as it makes meals easier, I find lunch hard though if I use my bread allowance for breakfast!

As a well done to myself this morning I enjoyed a big cooked breakfast with my Dh, was yum, back on it again now though, feeling very boosted by my loss!

Heres to another good week!

Riadingbetweenthelines · 18/09/2010 17:43

I know I am being unreasonable, unappreciative and generally bad tempered, but DH has done the jacket potatoes with oil and sea salt.

Lulumaam · 18/09/2010 17:55

jsut eat the middle out of the potato?

a spoon of olive oil counts as healthy extra b if you've not alrady had a b today

Lulumaam · 18/09/2010 17:56

that's a great weight loss izzy !

i've made some hard boiled eggs today to snack on

ElizabethWakefield · 18/09/2010 18:05

Thanks every one, DD is a bit better today, all scabbed over, but still a limp, her face looks awful, but it will heal, could have been much worse.

Well done Izzy, that is great in 2 weeks!

Very annoying about the potatoes, you could leave the skin? or Syn the oil, annoying tho, when it could be free.

I've tried to get straight back on it today, so far had
turkey rashers, eggs and mushrooms for breakfast
ryvita and cheese for lunch (healthy A&B)
Chicken, sweet potatoes and veg for dinner and blackberries and melon for snacks. Trying to have no syns today to counteract yesterdays big takeaway!

Riadingbetweenthelines · 18/09/2010 19:06

am afraid I just ate itBlush

just found this. I know it's a bit dismissive, but it made me laugh. And it mentions the "formula" I thought I remembered! Divide the calorie content by 20. No idea if it's true.

glad your DD is OK-ish EW

Lulumaam · 18/09/2010 20:37

oooh, turkey rashers! are they free?
i don't eat bacon, so they're nice to use for carbonara and a fry up etc

i made the syn free chips tonight , they were great, and not sure if i overdosed on fry light as they tasted properly like chips done in oil ! i parboiled them in veg stock first

a great fill you up idea is baked rice.. you put rice in a tin tray... cover the bottom with rice, then cover with boiling waer, with a couple of chicken or veg stock cubes in.. and cook til the rice is soft, although it goes nicely crisp on top

you could add loads of veg to it too and make a baked rice/veg dish

DontCallMeBaby · 18/09/2010 23:20

Turkey's free, bacon's free, can't see how turkey rashers wouldn't be free. :)

I worked out that 20 calories per syn seemed to work - Mikados (mm) are 11 calories each and 1/2 a syn, so that works.

ElizabethWakefield · 18/09/2010 23:21

I would have just eaten it too! Grin

Yeah, turkey rashers are free, I only just discovered that the other day, I was pleased!!

Baked rice sounds good, I will give that a go.

DP is currently eating a chinese takeaway, I have had 2 rice cakes, I feel like a saint! Wink

OP posts:
WynkenBlynkenandNod · 19/09/2010 08:49

Sorry to hear about your DD Elizabeth, hope she heals very soon. I would have had curry at that point. You were hugely virtuous with the rice cakes, I would have joined in with the chinese, I know I would. Having said that I have had Chinese since doing SW and decided actually it's not as nice as I thought it was, a bit greasy and bland.

Izzy, that is an amazing loss, have you any tips you can pass on ?

Riading, I think what your DH did to those potatoes is nothing short of criminal and I'd have been muttering about divorce under my breath!

Pixie if you don't remember eating food than any you may have eaten just doesn't count!

Dita, hope the hangover isn't too bad....

Lulumaam, I make gravy for roast. Fry some onion with a little bit of sweetner in frylight. Make up some oxo, add a dash of worcester sauce and herbs if you have any. Turn the heat up high and gradually add the stock, letting it boil off and evaporate as you go. Final good boil to reduce a bit. You can liquidise a little to make it slightly thicker. Not as good as the real thing and not very thick but not too bad.

I have a confession, I googled SW forum and as a result have visited the sparkly place. I don't post much and haven't got a ticker but am going to try the delicious sounding Chinese beef recipe I found there. They seem to use the 20cals per syn thing over there.

DD is currently obsessed with Japan and has been nagging me to make sushi do we did last night. After battling with sticky rice and producing something that resembled sushi if you squinted at it with one eye, she nibbled one tiny piece and announced sheepishly she didn't like it. So obviously I had to eat it all, was supposed to serve 4. Luckily it was from the Extra Easy cookbook and 10 syns in total.

My other discovery of the week apart from Alpen Light bars are Velvet Crunch crisp thingys, 4 syns, very tasty.

Riadingbetweenthelines · 19/09/2010 09:06

what is a velvet crunch crisp Wynken?

I will assume that my left-over syns (because i went to bed early) will cover the oilHmm

Morrisons eat smart sausages are very low syn/free aren't they? Am just about to makemy hideous children a cooked breakfast, then it's chicken and veg curry tonight (unless we get a better offerWink)

I am feeling very rubbish and depressed and weepy today, which is one of the times when I usually give up, but I know I won't feel better about myself until I do something about the things that bother me. GRRRR!!! Sad Sorry for sharing (it's times like this I really miss my old PN threadSad)

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 19/09/2010 09:32

They are these. I could only find the cheese and onion ones but they do other ones. I think the Morrisons's sausages are half a syn each but can't be sure.

Really sorry you're feeling down Riading Sad Can you plan a day with SW versions of your favourite meals and have treaty syns (ie. don't use syns on sauces but on chocolate/crisps and the things you like best) plus get DH make the house child free for an hour or two and you have a pampering session maybe.

Lulumaam · 19/09/2010 10:05

I made the gravy with the juice from the roasting tin, two stock cubes, onion, water and seasoning. i only had a dash of it, and counted it as syns. i had a half measure of wine (3 and 1/4 syns) topped with soda . i'd only had 3 syns the whole day, so i reckon the gravy was fine ! Grin

Riadingbetweenthelines · 19/09/2010 10:26

thanks wynken, will look out for them, was hoping they were chocolate thoughWink

maybe will feel better when the kids are back at school tomorrow and I can attack the messHmm, will try and have a nice hot bath later when they are watching crap on the TV with DH.

findingtheRialme · 19/09/2010 10:31

just logging in with with my new "cheer myself up" nameWink

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 19/09/2010 11:27

I like the new name. Sorry they aren't chocolate. At group the other day she was saying those plain Club biscuits we used to have whilst we were children are 5.5 syns and more chocately than a kit kat. Mikados are good for half a syn and I'vd heard of people freezing curly wurlies (6 syns I think ) to make them last longer. Cadbury light chocolate mousse are lovely frozen, like ice cream and 3 syns. Chocolate iced gems are around 6 syns per pack and the highlights hot chocs are low, 2.5 syns maybe.

My mouth started watering at your gravy Lulumaan ! I'm doing roast tonight but sticking the chicken in the slowcooker whilst we burn off some calories at the allotment.

Noticed the Paul Mckenna thread and remembered I have the CD on my iPod so just listened to that. More for the relaxation aspect than anything else but maybe it will help.
