So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

melty that is cool, no will power required.
sorry I haven't been on all week.
elizabeth so glad yur mum is eating, must be a huge relief.
I have had such a bad week food wise, been half term, got a cold and been feeling really tired and run down. So I have had a chinese, and I don't mean boiled rice, I had, spare ribs, prawn toast, lemon chicken, egg fried rice and prawn crackers Blush. yesterday ate nothing but rubbish all day and then topped it off with sausage and chips from the chip shop. think I needed a major blow out so i can get bACK ON track. am having a party later so will be having a few nibbles and some vodka and diet coke, weighed myself earlier and I have puut 2lbs on which I don't think is too bad considering how bad I have been, so going to get back on the wagon before I go to far.

Mind you dh just making me some scrambled eggs and mushrooms and I have had to stop him as he was about to fry the mushrooms in oil.
Anyway sorry for the essay.

Lulumaam · 30/10/2010 08:46

how awful though to nt be able to produce sausages and chips though !

Dita, i know what you mean, get it out of your system and start again.

Elizabeth, far more important to have a nice evening eating with your mum than anything else right now

Had gorgeous dinner last night, huge griddled steak, aubergines, asparagus and baked potato. had loads of quark in the potato and osme on the steak, like sour cream. was delish ! and a small glass of red wine for my syns. felt properly full and satisfied and not craving junk for almost the first time this week

i wonder if it is because i shared a pizza with DH on monday night after WI and it made me want more junk?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 30/10/2010 10:00

Elizabeth, really pleased to hear your Mum is feeling better and you weren't rubbish, you were doing the best you could in real life. It's full of unexpected takeaways, cakes etc that lie in wait to trip us up. But we're all learning to deal with them and carry on. Hope your Mum continues to feel better.

Melty, love your fairy, I have visions of it sitting on your shoulder ready to jump in when needed! How bad though that they messed up sausage and chips.

Dita, sorry you've not been well and hope you feel better. At least you did stop DH before the oil came out. And I think that you have a good point about needing a blow out every so often, I think I'll need to do that over Christmas, if not sooner.

Lulu, your meal sounds delicious. It wasn't near TOTM for you this week was it ? I get terrible cravings for rubbish and never feel full round then.

Just had a cooked breakfast , feel lovely and full and still have my B choice for later plus most of my A choice milk. Am going to make myself a latte later and have it with an Alpen light later then have the other Alpen after tea which is going to be some kind of curry- possibly pumpkin and lentil as have two pumpkins in the kitchen.

I got a food diary to fill in this week and have found it really useful to shake things up a bit as if honest , I had got into a bit of a rut with breakfast and lunch plus although I have been having a third superfree, I could be having more variety, and ai hadn't been measuring my milk. Went on the wii today and it claims I have lost two pounds making me 16 something for the first time in years which is a great feeling. I've got 5 days to weigh in so if I can keep those two pounds and add another I will be absolutely delighted and get my Club 10, fingers crossed.

upsydaisysexstylist · 30/10/2010 11:15

Was being very good, baking halloween biscuits and only had a half oz bat, but have now scoffed 3 of the brown sugar merangues with dried fruit we made to use up the egg whites. Damm my thritfyness ! Am trying to work syns out, only need to count sugar right ( dried fruit is (HEB) so reckon 10 for the lot and 1syn each).

I personally feel and have read stuff to back this up that it is not glucose that is bad but it's varients esp corn syrup which is mainly fructose. They are common in junk food and do not cause an increase in insulin like glucose. Insulin release is linked to another hormone inulin which signals that we are full. Sorry for science geekiness, but hey I once said to my mother having discovered the joys of knitting as an adult why didn't you tell me it was just maths. Plus mu DS1 is horrid on the stuff

whatkungfuthat · 30/10/2010 11:37

I feel for you upsydaisy, the house is full of crap that I bought for the DS's to take to a halloween party later but the packets are still intact atm Hmm

I have a horrible feeling it may be cancelled due to complete silence from hosts, so I may be on here tomorrow saying how I ate an entire packet of sour halloween shaped jellies!

upsydaisysexstylist · 30/10/2010 20:14

Hmm, consoling myself with fact I am supposed too have all my syns according to breastfeeding leaflet. So still had enough for tiny bit of pink peppercorn chocolate, still cannot decide if I liked it. Hope party gos ahead

findingtheRialme · 30/10/2010 21:43

hi guys. Have been trying to post forages but PC keeps crashingSad

yay forthe SW fairy melty.

Glad your mum is eating EW.

I am keen on the idea of going with an occasional blow-out. It is meant to be good for your metabolism to give it a shock now and thenWink

findingtheRialme · 30/10/2010 22:08

Hmm crashed again.

I never expected to say this, but today I had half a grapefruit for breakfast, and a glassof water, and I felt strangely satisfiedShock i was meant to be having poached egg (no eggs), so cooked bacon for a bacon butty - bread furry.

have walked again today, over the fields from our village to the little seaside town nearby (about an hour at DS3 speed, then almost another half hour to the far end of the beach). Did get a lift home with DH though as we walked anhour either way yesterday, and walking round town, so I though DS3 might have had enough. (Fish and chips yesterday - first 2 mouthfuls gorgeous, began to regret it halfway through, felt really ill-of-stomach within 20 minutesSad) Whitby is about an hours drive from home for us. We go a couple of times a year, usually when it is freezing cold, blowing a gale, and over 50% chance of rain!

findingtheRialme · 30/10/2010 22:15

sorry for many short posts, am trying to fox the PCWink

RE alcohol. I need an alternative to wine, but (I hope this doesn't make me sound like a raving alcoholicBlush) I like wine, it is my friendWink. I need something low-syn that would give me the same slightly burning inside but fuzzy round the edges feeling of that first glass of wine, but ice cold and refreshing, and not too sweet. Saw a recipe in an old mag for a mojito, but thought all that crushing limes a bit labour intensive. What is white rum? and club soda? (don't drink spirits, haven't since I was 18! can occasionally manage southern comfort with lime and lemonade when very drunk...) HELP!

hope I haven't missed anyone with my short ramblings. Hope you enjoy whatever festivities you have for the weekend, and have a good Sunday. x

Melty · 30/10/2010 22:33

White Rum = Bacardi.

Club Soda = Soda water.
I just do vodka and diet coke. I only like sparkling wine. Actually, try a glass of sparkling wine, then have one of your spirits!
Why are you crushing limes? Just use lime juice.

White rum 50ml
3 fresh mint leaves (large)
2 tsp sugar/splenda
3 tbsp fresh lime juice (you can use cordial, but fresh lime is much better)
Soda water to taste
5 crushed ice cubes

Preparation Instructions:

  1. Crush 2 of the mint leaves in a tall glass (you can use a fork or spoon for this), then add the splenda and the lime juice and stir through.
  1. Add the crushed ice to the glass.
  1. Then pour the rum and soda over the top, and then add the last sprig of mint and a slice of lime on top.

Bought two new bras today. £56
Between all the fresh fruit and veg, and the urgent need for new non falling down knickers, this is getting expensive!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 31/10/2010 07:53

Don't let my children know you have all been making biscuits, there will be ructions! We haven't done the pumpkin yet, probably due to last years dog ate the pumpkin episode then woke up in the night with belly ache being still quite fresh in my mind.

Melty, I too need new bras and knickers. Is that how much I am going to have to spend on bras? Our shopping bill has definitely shot up since starting this but I guess it will be worth it when healthy and thin.

My boots have arrived and they are utterly gorgeous. I thinkmy calves are shrinking though as they came a few days ago and were easier to zip up yesterday and I haven't worn them yet. On closer inspection there is definitely fat as well as muscle on my calves so am going to wear them lots before I shrink and keep the box to flog them on Ebay next year when my legs are too thin (I hope!)

Melty · 31/10/2010 08:52

Well, I gave in and weighed myself one day early.
Down 2 and a half lbs. That means I am now 15 13.5 Smileyay!

I bought a pair of Jaeger trousers on ebay size 16, high waisted. presently at tailors getting let down, but Oh My God, I look so slim.
Its the first time I can see it. Even though my clothes are looser, and my bras and knickers are a disgrace, I couldnt actually see any difference. ( A degree of body dysmorphia I suppose)

So I can definitely recommend high waisted trousers for avoiding that poochy belly overhang. Theres no way I would have been able to afford them new though. [Faints at Jaeger new prices emoticon]

Someone mentioned that they think clothes sizes are all bigger these days and I can confirm. I have 2 lovely skirt suits from 9yrs ago (christening size 16) and 14yrs ago (interview size 14 skirt). The size 16(Wallis- and I used to have to go down a size as they were bigger) skirt will not go over my hips, never mind doing up, and the 14 barely goes over my knees.
A bit depressing to think about but at least I am now going in the right direction.

Wynken, I suppose you can spend as much as you need to really but pretty bras in porn star big girl sizes are not cheap usually Grin. I went to John Lewis to get measured, and the nice lady told me I should get measured every 6 months minimum.
I got measured in July last and was a 40E in Freya and 38F in Fantasie.
I am now a 38F in Freya and a 38E in Fantasie.
I bought a black Freya bra (have just had a peek again at the prices) £28 and a nude Fantasie one £25.

You will get loads of wear out of your lovely boots, and when they get loser, put thick long socks inside them. How exciting to be able to put the reason for selling them as "I have lost weight and they are now much too big"

Lulumaam · 31/10/2010 09:00

yes ! high waisted are brilliant

my gorgeous black trousers which now need replacing as can get them on and off without undoing, are thick heavy cotton twill, slightly wideleg with a turn up, wear with black wedges and a black tunic an i lose anther dress size. they are brilliant !

might get htem taken in if can't replace them

please tell me tandoori chicken from the takeout is free???? had a little splurge last night.. i know the poppadums and dip were syns.Blush

Lulumaam · 31/10/2010 09:02

I've been going through my wardrobe, trying things on that have not fitted for a long time, which is lovelySmile wi tomorrow night and another party tonight, but found out it's beef casserole and chilli with boiled rice on the menu, so reckon the casserole with rice will be fine as no fat on the meat and will be only a little oil

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 31/10/2010 09:11

Wahey Melty, well done !!! Going down a number is SO exciting, our consultant gives stickers for it and I feel cheated as I didn't get one last time I did, am going to ask for two this week when I hopefully have gone down again.

I have vile M&S bras that are now vile and too big. I do need to find somewhere like John Lewis and get properly measured but goodness knows where, will have to work on that.

Size 16 is highly impressive and in my sights for spring next year. I'm vey lucky in that my SW friend said she'll pass her size 16's my way but not sure how many she has as she shot through that size in the space of a few weeks. I found one pair of 16 in my wardrobe that I've never worn, they are just starting to go over my backside. My 13 year old size 18 jeans are still stubbornly resisting all attempts tonget them done up, I even enlisted DH's help whilst lying as flat as I could on the bed, they weren't having it.

Was thinking earlier, what a difference there will be in all of us for Christmas next year, we will be fabulous.

Melty · 31/10/2010 09:13

Lulu, definately get them taken in, if they are your favourites.
Favourite clothes always make you feel good.
Tandori should be free, without the skin, I think.
Oh oh, I have just checked, and it is 9 syns on Red or EE
I think thats a load of crap though. Unless its swimming in fat. (which tandoori never is)
I have frequently got a chicken quarter from the canteen at work when its available, as its usually very tasty. I have not once counted it as I peel off the skin and have it with my own (brought in) veggies.

And I have lost every single week so far. Although to be fair, I haven't had too much temptation in the way of parties etc.
December is going to be interesting. Grin

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 31/10/2010 09:16

I think the Tandoori chicken will be a few syns for oil but wouldn't worry about it, there are much worse choices and you can be OK tonight.

Tis a lovely feeling when previously tight trousers go down without undoing! That has reminded me to wear mine again before they get too big, they are high wasted and so much more flattering.

Pumpkin soup for lunch today. Am doing cooked breakfast next weekend again, was lovely to have my A and B choice later in the day.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 31/10/2010 09:18

I'm dreading December but am hoping to get a good November behind me and will try to get people here more so I can do low syn food.

Melty · 31/10/2010 09:24

Oh Wynken big Grin at the image of your DH trying to zip you into those jeans.
Just imagine Google streetview catching that image!!

By the way, size 16 is really only my waist. I have always been top heavy. But for some reason I always thought I was overly broad shouldered.
(I blame it on the trauma of a rude boy telling me I had "awful broad shoulders for a woman" when I was 16 - Slow dance at the disco many yrs ago, too polite to ever say no to anyone who asked me to dance even if I didnt want to.)

Then a few years ago I discovered Bravissimo (they make clothes for women that fit on the waist and boobs. First time I ever had a dress or a blouse that didnt gape or pull over the boobs.)
Then I got too fat even for them. Sigh.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 31/10/2010 09:33

I'm bigger up top. I have a fitted size 20 Monsoon top that looks I don't think I'll ever be able to wear. It looks as if it is for small boobs and larger waist which rules me firmly out.

Was looking at Bravissimo for bras earlier but there aren't any near me and I might be a 42 around my back, not a 40, need to measure. I gave up on them. Am a little worried that the top heavy issue is going to create issues with dress buying when I'm ready to buy one, haven't bought a dress since my school ball which is more years ago than I want to remember.

Melty · 31/10/2010 10:01

Wynken,
Wrap dresses are your friend. I have a few that I am still too heavy to wear in public, but the boob thing isnt an issue in them.

Actually, go dig out a tape measure, and measure your back size properly.
The lady in John Lewis measured my back which she said was 38, but said its only a guide.
She then got a selection of 38s and 40s Es and Fs
She quickly binned the 40s and then tried a few different styles.
She also said its nonsense that you should add 4in to your back size to get your bra size, and some websites still advise this.
So do M&S actually, which is why I dont get measured there. The last time I tried, the back of the bra was riding high and really loose. I told the woman that it didnt fit, and she just kept repeating "but its your size madam".
Mind you that was a long time ago, so maybe things have changed there.

Lulumaam · 31/10/2010 10:16

chicken deffo not oily and had no skin on it.
ah well, i enjoyed it !

YY to wrap dresses, so flattering i find , they give you a waist or emphasise the one you have and give you curves in the right places

i bought one from gap last year, that was too small, but a bargain, tried it on today! it fits !!!!!!! Grin

i have a really bold black/green stripe one i got in dotty Ps about 5 years ago for £5, i wore it the other day and got loads of compliments.. wore it with black knee high boots .

it's great being able to open up the wardrobe and be able to consider wearing almost anything in there !

whatkungfuthat · 31/10/2010 13:55

Hi Guys, no sour jellies to confess only a whopping great chinese! DP went to the pub to watch football and it was too late to cook when he got back Hmm so we ordered one. Will def. try and make it the last one before xmas though. We usually go out on a Saturday night and make sure we eat before we go so no takeaway temptation. I made a mojito on Friday, it was lovely but I would only ever have one as its not the same as my beloved wine. rial I know exactly what you mean about that first glass!

I don't know what is going to happen weight-wise this week. I lost the weight I gained after last weekend but now have undone all that with the chinese. I cheated a bit this morning and had a large glass of prune juice which has a spectacular cleansing effect on me so hopefully some of the fat from last night should have gone Blush Having a salad tonight with smoked salmon and laughing cow, and hitting the exercise big time tomorrow as school is back. Fingers crossed for a good week for everyone ladies.

Keziahhopes · 31/10/2010 19:06

It is great to read of new clothes/old clothes fitting again. I can't wait to go to Bravissimo again when I have lost a bit more to hopefully go down a size (have found John Lewis or Bravissimo fittings the best). I managed to wear my size 16 jeans this week, without them feeling too tight Grin

Wyken, think Bravissimo do free delivery and returns?? Thought not help if you don't know exact size I guess.

DontCallMeBaby · 31/10/2010 20:46

Melty I've just done a quick search for bra size calculators, and all seem to be adding 4 or 5" to the band size ... apparently I should be wearing 40C or even 40B.

Utter nonsense - underbust is 35", over is 42", I wear 36G and it FITS. The first bra I ever had was a B cup, and fitted for about six weeks ... extraordinary that some companies are still sticking to such nonsense.

I started well today - mostly free roast chicken dinner. I served up that damn turnip, mashed with not a HUGE amount of butter, pepper, salt and nutmeg. It was lovely actually. Chicken, roasties done with Fry Light, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, stuffing (tut), gravy (tut). , SW Baileys cheesecake (I wouldn't bother, it was okay, but not that great). Glass of wine (tut). This evening we had a Hallowe'en do at our neighbours, I've eaten two chips, a Twiglet, a sausage and a carrot stick, and drunk probably a bottle of wine.

I am very tempted to drink the rest of the bottle from lunch, along with a baguette and blue-cheese flavour Laughing Cow, and call it a flexible syns day. Tomorrow DD is back at school and I'm back at work, and that makes things easier - I take what I take for lunch, and that's it. Need to figure out what to do with the chicken leftovers - there's three roast potatoes, mashed turnip, carrot, cauliflower and cabbage, and a load of chicken, so I'd like to do some sort of bubble & squeak effort, at least for me.
