So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

Well done on all the loses, there is a huge combined weight loss already and it's only been 2 months Smile

Loving the pumpkin pics (and lovely kids too)

Well I was out for DP's birthday last night and I was pretty bad, but decided there was no point in picking thinks that I wouldn't enjoy as much just because they were lower fat. So had a korma, with paswari nan and rice as well as a starter Blush

Then came home and had a small bit of cake...I hadn't planned on by DD made me!! I had a totally syn free day up until the cauury, and have had a syn free day today so far too. So hopefully that will help.

Needing inspiration for dinner tonight, feel like something nice, but syn free or as near to as possible, but I don't really fancy anything I have in. Will drop DD at a halloween party later, right next to a supermarket, so will have a wander round, although I think that can be a bad idea when hungry and craving nice things! Grin

Might have a look in the sw recipe archive!

thanks melty have been trying to drink more water and fluid generally, but yesterday was just a pig of a day and today am feeling peculiar. hungry, but don't want to eat, what i am eating is not hitting the spot.

am makign SW chips and chilli for tea, need eat early as working tonight.

went to bed early last night as obsessing about chocolate and my stomach was really complaining and i felt starved

very odd.

findingtheRialme · 28/10/2010 18:45

thank you (must remember to have that post removed later) my kids are wonderful in photos when you can't hear them!

rotten sore throat tonight, not helped by spending the day at a friends with the 2 little boys and another mummy-friend. I feel like I've been talking all day! (I hope I wasn'tBlush)

just had a sauasage sandwichBlush am really cross with myself for blowing another week (only today and yesterday really, but feels worse as WI tomorrow). I don't even like sausages that much. I intend to sit down with a big pile of old magazines tonight and plan something abit different for the next week. I'm sure I'll do better if I am having food I'll look forward to.

Lulumaam · 28/10/2010 20:28

ria, it is taking all my willpower and my desperation to get to club10 on monday to stop me eating an entire loaf of proper white bread toasted with butter.

nimble aint cutting it today.

i also 'wasted' 4 syns on a measly ounce of low fat cheddar on my SW chilli and chips.

an ounce is not enough to actually do/taste of anything really

i'm a whisker off losing 20lbs and am thoroughly f**ed off with it all today. not really sure why Confused

going to a friend's for dinner on saturday and i know he'll cook a gorgeous gorgeous meal with loads of wine and i'll have to limit what i eat. and i feel oddly resentful of that .

anyone care to slap me?

i am worried if i fall off the wagon, i won't get back on !

Melty · 28/10/2010 20:49

Lulu, cook that Nasi Goreng. Seriously filling and very very nice. (unless you are veggie in which case you wont want to eat the mince.)
The other one that is scrumptious, not at all like any sort of diet food is the Pasta with pancetta mushrooms and leeks. All that pasta and its really tasty.
You sound like you are bored eating SW food. Get some variety and flavours in, it really does make a difference.
If you are going out on Sat, plan a flexi syns day.

Go extra easy, and eat plenty of whatever veg is on offer, and have a few glasses of wine. Dont worry about it. This is a long term thing. Nothing bad is going to happen overnight. And you have to have a social life.
Get back on track on Sunday. Eat healthily the rest of the week.
Plan for a big fry up, eggs, lean bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes. ANd Bobs your unclem, EE on track again.

desiretochange · 28/10/2010 21:37

Great advice Melty, it is a long term thing and one night isn't going to ruin it!!

Melty · 28/10/2010 21:52

Oh, Forgot to say Lulu, If I have a particularly bad day, I always want to binge on white toast and butter; it is definitely related to moods for me.
So far, I have managed to resist. This site helps actually.
I am a habitual comfort eater, and if you are the same, try and find another way to fill the hole apart from food.
Because normallly when it hits, I'm not really hungry, but could probably do with a cuddle.

Are you more stressed than usual lately?

upsydaisysexstylist · 28/10/2010 21:54

Cheesewise Lulu, can you mix chedder and parmesan, beleive me it takes a long time to grate it, plus I am resisting the low fat stuff beliving it evil, so the strongest stuff in the shop does the trick for me.

FindingtheRealme, yay, another northerner, well unless you have a turbopowered car, I just moved to the same town as a Betty's only the expensive keeps me away from their macaroons and welsh rarebit mix

desiretochange · 28/10/2010 21:58

Seen a programme lately and it said that we enjoy white bread and toast because it improves our mood (just wish I could remember the science behind it Blush)

findingtheRialme · 28/10/2010 22:57

upsydaisy, how did I give away I am a northerner? (ah, just scrolled through and seen NRM - was that it? was wondering if I type with an accentWink) I have been to Betty's once, the day before my wedding, my sister was here from NZ with her DH and SIL, and they took the SIL as a "typical yorkshire treat"Hmm and I tagged along. The fish and chip shop in Wetherby is a big temptation for me, but luckily its near MILs house, not mine, so we don't go that often! Whitby tomorrow (fish and chips and Goth weekend, but we are walking along the beach for several miles to get there, and no doubt it will be chuffing freezing, so that has to burn off some potential fat surely?)

someone sent me on FB tonightGrin

Melty, you truly are the voice of reason and positive vibes. I think you are right about needing variation and food that tastes like "real" food, rather than SW food. I am determined to cook one of your recipes this week. (it WILL be easier when half term is over) I just wish I could learn to love cooking and find it relaxing and fulfilling (or whatever Nigella says it is)

I agree with melty lulu, enjoy your weekend, life does happen, and I think resentment of sticking strictly to the plan on an occassion like you describe is counter-productive (it would be for me anyway, in a big wayBlush), and EE is ideal to minismise damage without overly stressing.

findingtheRialme · 28/10/2010 22:59

desiretochange - I seriously wish they could work out a science to stop white bread toast being the thing we need!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 29/10/2010 07:37

Lulu, Melty talks lots of sense. The whole thing with this is that one day we'll need to maintain and it's times like you have this weekend which are actually good practice for this. We're all going to need to learn to go out, have a good time, get back and carry on if we're going to stay slimso a bit of practice at it along the way is a good thing. Where I've gone wrong in the past is thinking a bad day or two, or a week even, undoes all the hard work I've put in until then and just given up. I've got 3lbs to my Club 10 which I really want next week and we get stickers for going down a number. I've been given a food diary and have decided to try to have as much of my favourite foods as possible to keep it interesting, am going to do what Ria is doing, go through some old magazines and all my cook books.

Ria, lol at typing with an accent.

Melty, sorry to be a pita, was the Nasi Goreng recipe on slimming eats?

Lulumaam · 29/10/2010 07:42

Thanks so much for the support ,girls.. i ended up going for an early bath and bed so i was away from teh temptation so i suppose the good thing is i ddin't dive into the butter!

have had v stressful week and not had the same amount of time to cook/prepare. so that's not helped

still going for club10 on monday!

thank you all very much xxxxxxxxx

desiretochange · 29/10/2010 08:11

Morning everyone, can I ask what is Club 10, do you have to lose 10lb to get in it? Or weigh 10 stone?

Melty · 29/10/2010 08:14

Its when you have lost 10% of your starting weight. (I'll be doing it for a while!)
Wynken, yes it was!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 29/10/2010 08:58

Thanks Melty, I might have a go at that later. Bet you don't take that long to get there, if I do manage next week it will have taken 15 weigh ins, I think in reality it will be the week after, so 16 weigh ins for 26lbs. But that's averaging 1.5lbs a week and although I'd love to be averaging 2lbs a week, I've got my head round it an am pleased with it, as long as it continues and doesn't drop to 1lb a week average.

Well done Lulumaam, another day bites the dust and a day closer to that Club 10! It is hard when life is stressful but we're all still doing it with really decent losses which is great.

I sit next to a girl in class who started a little earlier than me. I think she has learning difficulties and has really struggled getting her head round it. She's lost a pound, put it back on and struggled her way to a stone a few weeks ago. She couldn't stay yesterday unfortunately but our consultant said she lost a whopping 5.5lbs this week as she'd changed what she was cooking. Amazing !

Consultant keeps saying we've got 6 weeks until Christmas, she us wrong isn't she, I make it more.

whatkungfuthat · 29/10/2010 12:12

I make it more than 6 weeks too Wynken, but maybe you only have 6 classes left if she is stopping for Xmas? I did my club 10 a little while ago and was told that you have to maintain it (or lose more) for 10 weeks then you get a free week. I'm going to change my group so does anyone know if this transfers over?

A woman who works with DP has given up wine and switched to vodka, and has lost 2 stone in about 4 months. She used to drink a bottle a night though, he said she's nearing retirement and not at all overweight now. I know all the loss can't be down to wine but its definitely got me thinking so I am switching to Bacardi and will now make myself a mojito for my Friday night drink with the evil sugar substitute. Also, I'm not fond of spirits so I can't drink more than one Grin

whatkungfuthat · 29/10/2010 12:13

Oh and talking of xmas - Sainsburys are doing a half price toy promo atm (my local one is off the M25 and huge but I assume its all of them).

Grizzlylou · 29/10/2010 12:20

Hello all

Do you think these bad days are due to the weather?
Had a wierd day yesterday, just didn't feel hungry at all, for the right food anyway, just craving cheese on toast and chocolate.

I did resist as much as possible Blush

I went to Sainsburys today to do food shop and they have loads of vegetables on buy one get one free. Am planning lots of hearty soups.

I am going to the gym today as well, which should help burn some fat.

Ria, do you live near Whitby? Lucky you, it is a gorgeous place.

Grizzlylou · 29/10/2010 12:22

Whatkungfu, took me so long to post, that was why I was in Sainsburys, got all the children's presents I need to buy for, so that is done now.

I never normally shop in Sainsburys, it is just a bit further for me to travel, but I was impressed, seems better quality that Tescos/Asdas.

ElizabethWakefield · 29/10/2010 12:49

Glad to hear it wasn't just me with cravings yesterday!!

I said to DP last night that if I had bread and butter in the house I would honestly have eaten slabs of bread caked in thick butter until I burst!! Instead I had syn free Spag bol and felt unsatisfied!! Grin

Had an ok day today so far, will try to keep it up tonight, have an evening of pumpkin carving and DVDs planned with DD, so will try not to eat!! Then have DP's birthday night out with friends on Saturday and a kids Halloween party on Sunday, so need to be really good to get my first stone!!

whatkungfuthat · 29/10/2010 13:33

I started out well today but just had some of DS2's white choc buttons. When the kids are home there is too much temptation in the house! Doing steak and salad tonight so hopefully won't be tempted to snack in the evening.

Grizzlylou, I had mixed results at sainsburys - lots for smaller ones but none of the wretched bakugan that DS1 likes. I may go back on Monday when its quieter and see what they put out then Smile

Lulumaam · 29/10/2010 15:04

elizabeth, i was feeling that yesteerday !!

re wine/alcohol - i think one big factor for me in weight loss/changing shape is cutting right down on alcohol, i drink maybe once a week, a small wine with soda , whereas i was drinking pretty much every night , only one glass, but it would have been a 13 syn glass by slimming world standards, on top of food/crisps/snacks etc

my tummy has really reduced and i think that is deffo from laying off the alcohol

told DH need to go clothes shopping on monday. i can get my black trousers on and off without unfastening them ! Grin

going to try the skinny jeans on in primakr, see how far away they are from doing up !

ElizabethWakefield · 29/10/2010 19:50

Well I was rubbish again this evening.

Went to visit my mum and she was saying she really fancied a chinese takeaway, which was great as she hasn't eaten anything other than toast since the beginning of the month, so I had something too. Not the best, but I was delighted to see my mum eating, so it was probably worth it.

I am losing all hope of losing the one pound needed to the first stone, I reaaly need to get a grip next week and be very strict!

OP posts:
Melty · 29/10/2010 19:57

Well I went to the pub after work, finished at 5pm for a change -its been 8pm all week.
I could have had a really baaad syns evening but the Slimming World fairy was watching out for me!

I had 2 diet cokes-not really in a drinking mood as really tired from the week. Got peckish as two of the lads had mini pies and chips, asked for the veggie platter to share with the table, (Hummous, pitta, olives, and other low synned stuff I can't remember) but they had run out.
OK, Ordered the sausage platter (Well sometimes you just have to Smile ) and wedges. It came with 4 very burnt sausages and some chips, (done with skins on) mustard and relish and wholemeal toast quarters ate about 4 chips and sent the sausages back. She took the whole platter back (Much to the dismay of the lads who didnt mind black sausages!-in fact their pies had been egg washed and burnt on top too)
She had forgotten to order the wedges for me.
Platter came back and was told the wedges would be along in a few minutes.
Sausages were slightly charred in bits but were raw in the middle. Had a couple more chips.

10 mins later she came back, and told me that unfortunately they didnt actually have wedges. I showed her the sausages and asked for a refund. She sent me the manager, who was lovely, apologised profusely, offered me another platter, (Declined, had lost appetite by then!)and offered me a platter on the house the next time I am in, just to prove that they could cook.
I have eaten there before, and the food is usually ok. (its a Youngs pub!)
I got a full refund too.
On reflection its just as well the chef was having a very bad day I haven't actually synned much (6 chips anyone? ).
