So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

desire, some of my dinners on EE:

Spag carbonara with no fat fromage frais (I also add mushrooms to the bacon)

Roast chicken or beef with mash & roast spuds made with spray oil, lots of veg. Skin/fat removed.

Liver and bacon with horseradish mash and green beans (2 syns for horseradish)

Prawn & butternut squash risotto (aldo zilli recipe) parmesan from healthy extra and syn the wine and margarine - 1 only use about half the marg/butter the recipe states

Stir fried veg with prawns, lots of noodles (from dried) added, soy sauce and five spice for flavour

Lasagne (sometimes with a layer of roasted butternut squash) no fat fromage frais instead of white sauce, cheese from healthy extra

Lulumaam · 27/10/2010 17:54

YUMMY ! My lovely beef and veg has gone in the bin, just had an odd taste. not sure if meat on teh turn. so has boiled rice and veg followed by a tin of baked beans.

not my finest culinary hour and still craving sugar Confused

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 27/10/2010 18:07

Congratulations to those who have lost this week, I hope to follow in your footsteps tomorrow!

I'm getting very hungry with all this lovely food talk but am going out tonight to have a meal with some friends. Some good meal ideas here. I'm a bit rubbish at planning in advance and just tend to buy lots of SW friendly ingredients and decide on the day what I'm doing.

DontCallMeBaby · 27/10/2010 18:41

My fall-back dishes are cottage pie and noodle soup. Just had cottage pie - meat bulked out and flavoured with onion, carrot and red lentils. I can do it completely free, with the lentils thickening the gravy, and no extras in the mash, but this evening's had a bit of Bisto to get the consistency right (and extra flavour) and a splash of skimmed milk in the mash. No point in making it super-virtuous if DD won't eat it.

Melty · 27/10/2010 19:46

I do a shop at the weekend for the week ahead. I dont plan as such , except to get a variety of meats, as there are so many variations of what I can cook with what I have. Depends on how I feel on the day.

Quorn sausages (Bramley apples ones , mash, carrots and sugar snap peas. (I have a bag of frozen sugar snaps from M&S, as fresh are really expensive to eat a lot of, but I love them!)

Mince to do either a curry or a nasi goreng or a noodle and mince recipe from Slimmingeats.com
Or I might do a cottage pie. Or home made burgers.

Chicken thighs, as I think they are tastier than breast filets, and I do a curry or just roast with a selection of veg.

Fruit, lots of oranges, apples and if they look ok, strawberries to have a couple of times a week.

Love bananas, but think they are a bit high in carbs, so only have one every couple of days.

Pasta (Bill Grainger and Gordon Ramsey adapted recipes.)

Lamb steaks to make a lamb curry with it.

Fromage frais and quark for fruit or cooking.

Porridge for breakfast. Sometimes with a boiled egg.
Weekends have egg and lean bacon with a huge pile of mushrooms.
Mushrooms are a bit of a staple actually, love them!
Sometimes scrambled egg on toast. Dont bother about butter. I do them very soft so theres no real need.

I have scan bran, but only use them if I have a red day and dont have my second HEB and dont really want to eat anything else.

Sandwiches: cheese (grated, from alowance) and tomatoes.
Ham and laughing cow light. Feels a bit wicked!
Chicken, tomatoes and rocket.
Use nimble bread or weightwatchers malted danish.

DCMB, a bit of Bisto and a splash of milk wont actually be very many syns over the whole pie. (Presume you didnt scoff the whole lot of it?) So I think still pretty virtuous!

Lulu, if you are hungry, try having a drink of sugar free something. We get thirst and hunger confused sometimes. Or sugar free jelly can sometimes give you that sweet hit you crave. A cherry muller light often does it for me.

Desire, well done. 1lb often doesnt seem like much, but keep thinking its a whole pound of fat!

Dita, I was browsing on Amazon and it appears that the 30day shred dvds are only 5.99
I have succumbed and it arrived today. It remains to be seen how long it takes me to put it in the DVD!

I suffered today after my dinner from last night. I had a dessert, a lovely creamy cheesecake, but I think my poor body doesnt know what to do with full fat stuff. (I dont know what tempted me, because I dont normally have a dessert)
It felt like it was sitting on my stomach all day and I have felt bloated and a bit icky.
I think it might be a hint that perhaps its not wise to overindulge!

Grizzlylou · 27/10/2010 20:27

I have been to group and I lost 1.5lbs, which amazed me as on this week I normally maintain/gain.
So 7lbs in two weeks, I have a sticker Grin

Dita, I have done the Shred and have to say Level 2 was my least favourite. Level 3 is far more "enjoyable" and less stress on your knees. I am back on Level 1 though until I build up my stamina.

Well done to all the losers. My failsafe back up meal is SW quiche, eggs and cottage cheese with roasted peppers/whatever veg and then bacon or ham if doing an EE/Red day.
Quorn sausages and anything quorn (love the swedish meatballs) are also good to keep in. I just add a shit load of garlic and herbs/spices to everything. I love Muller lights as well. I have eaten fig rolls today though. Which I never normally would, but couldn't resist.
I will now have no sweet stuff in the house that I like, so no temptation.

desiretochange · 27/10/2010 21:41

Congrats Grizzlylou on your weight loss!
And thanks everyone for your eating plans, really helps give me ideas for what to eat! Going to give it a proper go this week and hopefully the scales will show a significant decrease Hmm
Oh on the subject of Muller, can anyone tell me if Muller lite rice is free or if not how many syns are in it. Thanks

whatkungfuthat · 27/10/2010 22:06

Mullerice is 11 on EE, the book doesn't list lite rice. Be careful with their Amore yoghurt too, thats 8.5 - more than a packet of crisps!

desiretochange · 27/10/2010 22:29

Thanks whatkungfthat, no Mullerice for me tomorrow:) was in shop earlier and was tempted to buy one but decided I would check on here first - lucky I did:)

findingtheRialme · 27/10/2010 22:39

bugger DCMB, I meant turnip not pumpklin, but you got it! off to catch up... (whilst hanging my head in shameBlush)

DontCallMeBaby · 27/10/2010 22:41

Hm, according to the website Mullerice Light is 10 syns BUT DON'T PANIC this is clearly bollox as original Mullerice, toffee variety, is also 10! It's all a bit contradicatory though, I can't find any mention of the light variety on the Muller website, or any reliable nutritional info ...

Tablefor6 · 27/10/2010 23:04

I joined weightwatchers last week and had my first weigh in tonight.....7lb of fat gone!!
I am over the moon :)

ditavonteesed · 28/10/2010 07:14

wow table, welcome and well done. Grin
I had a bad day yesterday and ate so much junk, luckily a grumpy dh wouldn't let me get a chinese so not too much damage I hopre.

desiretochange · 28/10/2010 09:29

7lb off tablefor6, huge congrats:) Any chance of passing on your secret :)

desiretochange · 28/10/2010 09:45

Had huge breakfast of bacon, egg, tomato and mushroom!

desiretochange · 28/10/2010 09:54

Sent that before I asked question - are Kimberly Mikados really only ½ syn each???

Tablefor6 · 28/10/2010 10:24

Thanks! I don't mind saying my start weight was 16st 11lb....one week into the programme & 16 st 4lb.... did expect a big loss as I have dieted in the past. I think When you are larger you do lose alot more in first few weeks, but should plateau to a steady 2lb a week off.

I have started the couch 2 5k running programme.....a 9 week programme that is for peeps that have never run in their lives!! (So that'll be me then!)

In 9 weeks they say i'll be able to run 5k in 30 mins without stopping! I have downloaded the podcasts, and have a sexy amercan voiced guy telling me when to run, and when to brisk walk :)

Very addictive way to introduce yourself to running!

desiretochange · 28/10/2010 10:52

Don't downplay it Tablefor6:) And well done on Couch 2 5k, would have to be hospitalised if I ran 100ft (doesn't help being a smoker:()

Tablefor6 · 28/10/2010 11:01

I know , I know I shouldn't downplay it...
I couldn't put my hand up when the weight watcher leader asked to the group who was pleased with their weightloss!! Felt a tad embarrassed at it all! lol!

Well desire I quit the fags 6 months ago, so I know that can't run 100 feet feeling...

I found stairs and running round after my 3 DCs left me breathless :(

I decided 2010 was my year for change, and at 35 I could still make that change for the well being of myself, and ultimately my family! :)

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 28/10/2010 12:50

Tablefor6, half a stone is amazing, well done !

I am back from weigh in, 2lbs off but not happy as was hoping for 3lbs as last week stayed the same despite being 100%. This week I had lower syn days and was really hoping for 3 lbs. However I did go out with friends last night and ate late, though I did have less breakfast in the hope it would compensate. Was very good last night, diet coke, morrocan braised veg with couscous and creme fraiche (scraped the creme fraiche off and syned it as 3 syns for what was left)and allowed 6 syns in case there was oil in it. Decided there wasn't enough superfree in it so had fruit salad for pudding which was strawberry, raspberry, mango, pineapple with a tiny bit of sugar and scoop of ice cream. My friend had my ice cream so as there wasn't syrup or anything so that was 2 syns for the sugar, so total of 11.

So consultant gave me a food diary to fill in and I'm going to shake up breakfasts a bit as always have melon and 2 weetabix, measure out A choice and not have jacket spud, cottage cheese and tomato salad so much. Lunch today is going to be turkey stir fry. Bought the Family feasts for a fiver and One pot cookbooks so am going to cook.

Desire, Mikados are really 1/2 a syn, enjoy !

Ria, love the pumpkins. There is a curried pumpkin and white bean soup in one of the cook books I've just bought.

Dita, at least you didn't have the Chinese so something to feel proud of, even if DH said you couldn't have it !

desiretochange · 28/10/2010 15:00

Cup of coffee and Midado time so Wynken:):)

DontCallMeBaby · 28/10/2010 15:07

Desire, although it's not 100% accurate, 20 calories per syn is a useful rule of thumb just to sanity-check ... milk choc Mikados are 11 calories each, dark chocolate ones are 10 calories. Tesco stock dark chocolate ones. Not that I'm obsessed with dark choc Mikados and bought three packets in the last time I was in Tesco, oh no, not at all ...

I have done a Bad Thing. DD and I went swimming this morning with her best friend and mum, and then we went to Starbucks. I looked at the drinks list, and something along the lines of 'might as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb went through my head', and before I knew what there was a caramel hot chocolate in front of me. With whipped cream. Oh, and it wasn't a small one either. It was SO filling, and I had a panini, I don't think I should eat for the rest of the day now. I will definitely do my bit with my new Wii purchase (EA Sports Active) this evening. And no Mikados!

Table, there is a young girl at our class who they THINK lost 7.5lb last week, but the IT went a bit wrong! She doesn't conform to the thing about it coming off if you're bigger, she barely looks to me like she needs to lose weight, but I think it's probably easier when you're young (I don't think she's even 20).

desiretochange · 28/10/2010 15:41

Thanks for that DCMB, having been driving myself mad trying to work out the syns for foods that aren't in food optimising book..
