So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

cats are very resilient DCMB - mine has survived many sittings/standings on, because he is dim and loiters in silly places. he is currently sleeping on top of the TV cabinet behind the TV (makes a change from inside the computer cupboard, or on the bookshelf... I suppose he is safe from being sat on in those places though! The other night I found him asleep on my bed, in a plastic storage basket that was on it's sideHmm)

am curious about this DVD now...

findingtheRialme · 21/10/2010 22:28

Hmm googled. don't like the look of herBlush or her flat stomachBiscuit - is that very shallow?Blush Much like Rosemary Conley - a big smug and ever so slightly sadisticWink. Has anyone tried the Claire from Steps DVD? (Steps are an embarrassing guilty indulgenceBlush)

ditavonteesed · 22/10/2010 07:50

she is scary, everyone at playgroup who was laughing at my inability to walk will be sorry when in 30 days I look just like that and will kick there asses. [hgrin]
we had a balck long haired cat when I was a kid, we also had a black leather chair, guests were forever sitting on him, he just coordinated so well that he looked like a lovely cushion.
DCMB I went running a couple of years ago, I had lost a lot of weight and was at target, I had a breast reduction as at a size ten they stayed at HH cup. so I thought what can I do that I couldn't before and I came up with running, I did race for life, then a ten k in the summer, then another ten k in december, I have not run since. would like to start again. prob is I smoke, I stopped for quite a while and the 1st 10k I did was in this period, the second was after I had started again and I spent the whole day coughing so I know if I want to start again I need to stop smoking. I used to love spinning at the gym as well and do that 3 times a week, not sure i am talking about the same person here. Just remembering this gives me a bit more motivation.
I have a bit of a difficult weekend, I am going to sa friends partyy tonight, and going to another friends tommorow for drinks and there will oprob be nibbles, nibbles is what gets me.
will try to fill myself u first with good stuff.

whatkungfuthat · 22/10/2010 08:00

Nibbles get me too. When I am shopping I have to avert my eyes from Walkers sweet chilli sensations. Friday is wine day with all the syns I have been saving up so I am going to try to no-syn crisps with balsamic vinegar. Does anyone know if sesame seeds are really bad? I've lost my food directory and the SW site won't let me in. Doing a stir-fry tonight and can't use cashew nuts as they won't make it to the wok!

I would love to be able to run but even at my thinnest a little jog makes my lungs want to explode, why is that? Confused

ditavonteesed · 22/10/2010 08:08

think you just have to get used to it slowly, I started with the couch to 5k, from there to 10k was a lot less of a jump, thought of it now makes me shudder but I definatly enjoyed it at the time. My jeans that I bought last dec are now a little bit loose, that means although I haven't really lopst a lot I have undine the last year with my crappy job and comfort eating.

Grizzlylou · 22/10/2010 08:13

Dita, we sound so similar, I started running just before I did SW last time, did a 5km race then some 10km ones and I used to go spinning as well. I still run a bit, but nowhere near for as long or as regularly a I used to.
I should though, last time I was losing 5lbs a week by following SW and running 3x a week.

I ache all over after shredding yesterday, my arms and chest are agony.

Gym tonight and a fat wobble Smile

DontCallMeBaby · 22/10/2010 08:13

Will you be dressed like her when you kick the playgroup asses? Cos I'm enjoying that mental image. :o

The idea of a me that might go running also seems like not the same person as I am now, and have always been ... of course that person hasn't emerged yet and may never! But it is weird - I had no sooner resigned myself to 'this is it, I'm going to be slightly tubby, and getting tubbier, for ever' before suddenly acquiring a resolve to do something about it that I've never managed before.

I did a tiny bit of Wii Fit last night, very little time to fit it in, but at least I started again.

desiretochange · 22/10/2010 10:52

Totally echo what you said DCMB, I had resigned myself to being overweight but a couple of weeks ago, I realised that doesn't have to be the case, with a bit of effort I can lose weight and keep it off Hmm
Second attempt at making an omelette last night and it actually tasted good and looked ok, much better than last weeks disastrous attempt Blush.
Other than walking to and from work I haven't really been exercising - just using vibro plate which will hopefully shake some of excess lard of this old body Wink

Melty · 22/10/2010 14:21

I have a cardio pilates DVD which I have done once.
It was quite hard going, (I have done pilates, so I have a good understanding of the techniques) but clearly could do with kick up the bum as havent gone near it since!

In fact I have about 5 or 6 DVD workouts still in the cellophane wrapping!

Anwyay to get back to something I am pasionate about, I did that waitrose recipe for Chicken Thighs.
Roast Chicken Thighs and Potatoes with lemon and Rosemary
They were thigh fillets, skin off. I only used one small potato cut into chunks (red day), and used carrots, leeks cut thickly, red peppers and shalotts. I used stock instead of wine, (wine syns are for drinking not for cooking!)
I didnt have the crushed chillies, so used a pinch of chili flakes and I have dried thyme so used that instead.
I think if I had a big group for lunch I could do this easily and would probably use fresh thyme and wine.
It was absolutely gorgeous

desiretochange · 22/10/2010 14:27

There must be some lovely aromas in your house Melty,:):)

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 22/10/2010 14:36

Melty if you are ever stuck for a career, I reckon you'd do brilliantly writing a cook book for SW, all your recipes look gorgeous. Thank you for taking the time to post them, it's lovely to be able to flick through this thread and get new ideas.

I'm still not brave enough to order the Shred but could be tempted if Dita turns round in 27 days time and announces she has turned into Jillian Michael or something similar. Not going to start running yet as I'm worried there will be reports of stange tremors registering on the Richter scale in the south of England. I think I might start swimming again.

Have ordered boots. Couldn't sleep last night so I got up and went for it big time and ordered these from Duo. I have never in my entire life spent that much on an item of clothing and felt quite feint this morning when I realised what I had done at 2am.

So am full of resolve to have a good loss this week. Have been reading the top of the thread back to the week I lost 4lbs and found where I had jotted down a few day's worth of what I ate that week. Today I have had 2 weetabix and melon, a small jacket spud, tin of tuna, sweetcorn, 2 level tbsp Extra light mayo (1 syn), cucumber, onion and tomato. Tea tonight is turkey stir fry with egg noodles, then a cup of Options Hot Choc (2 syns) and a Time out finger (4.5 Syns).

On the subject of syns, how many do you all tend to have on an average day ?

whatkungfuthat · 22/10/2010 14:39

Wynken I am Envy of the boots. Shred DVD has arrived and its sitting looking at me, can't do it yet though as today is an INSET (insect) day Hmm

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 22/10/2010 14:42

Kungfu, I'd take it out the wrapper (exercise) then turn it over so she can't look at me. And I wonder why my weight loss is slower than a lot of people's ! Fully understand the not doing it whilst anyone around, everyone is banned from the living room when I get on wii fit.

whatkungfuthat · 22/10/2010 15:11

I'm quite pleased that she seems ghastly as I like to have a good old swear at the screen if its hard. The poor girl from the shake weight dvd seems quite sweet but she really cops some abuse! Blush

Lulumaam · 22/10/2010 16:49

re boots - i've got some viva la diva boots, they come up on the generous side, but i don't think i have overly generous calves.. now, my thighs on the other hand Wink

anyhoo, my lovely dad is treating me to some uggs to celebrate my weighloss, just deciding whterht to get classic ones or the cardi ones...

looking at an asda chicken jlafrezi & 1 poppadum tonight ( 15 syns!!!!! ) but been low on syns this week as a whole, and i don't feel well or like cooking aynthing at all. might have half the curry, it's a big portion.

Lulumaam · 22/10/2010 16:52

wyken, i'd been having up to 12-15, i have reduced to 8- 10 for the last 10 days.

i'd had that small gain and it scared me a bit ! i think i had got complacent and was not really measuring all the synable stuff properly

i know i am having 15 syns tonight, but i know i've counted the syns properly teh last 10 days and if anything , put down more than i've had.. i'e marinated chicken, with 5 syns per recipe, and shared it with the chidlren, but counted all teh syns in my portion, to be on the safe side

ditavonteesed · 22/10/2010 16:53

boots are gorgeous.
If you can swear while doing the shred I will be impressed, done day 3 and it seemed a bit easier, I can walk, I did have a hot bath straight affter though. last night I covered myself inralgex before I went to bed. [hgrin]
having a ww ready meal for tea as kids having chip shop chips s i wanted something easy. off to a party later, taking my own vodka and diet coke so I have to be good.
Melty as ever sounds delicious.
desire I know what you mean it is like you have to accept yourself before you can be in the right place to change, I had also d3ecided that I could no longer be bothered to care about my weight and then I woke up one day inspired, just hope I can keep it up long term, at the moment it seems like I will, seems like we all will.
Elizabeth, if you look in at all, hope you are Ok.

Lulumaam · 22/10/2010 17:06

yes, where is elizabeth? Sad

Melty · 22/10/2010 17:27

She was away for a week I think a few pages ago for Half Term.
Shes probably enjoying herself!

Lulumaam · 22/10/2010 17:59

ah, right.. as long as she's ok !

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 22/10/2010 18:19

Ah, that's where Elizabeth is, hope she's having a good time. Can't quite believe the DC's have broken up today, no more sandwiches to make for a week.

Right, I am on syn cutback as of yesterday, am going to keep them under 10 as I have been creeping up to 15 and do you know what? I don't really want them, I'm just doing it because I can.

What a lovely Dad you have Lulu, which of the Uggs are you leaning towards? I shall miss my Emu boots this year, they were so warm

Dita I am most impressed you are going out after having Shredded for 3 days in a row, I don't think I would be able to move from the sofa!

DontCallMeBaby · 22/10/2010 18:58

Wynken, those are my boots! Only mine are black. I thought I regretted them slightly, as they're a little big (I should have sent them back, but wasn't certain enough that a size down wouldn't be too small, so I kept them) but I've been wearing them over the last week and I like them again.

Ooh, I thought I was doing quite well today (lunch of a ham sandwich, light Babybel, grapes, a cereal bar and a Mullerlight; dinner of SW sweet & sour chicken and rice) and then I remembered I kind of accidentally had a pain au chocolat for breakfast at work.

DH needs to take DD off for her shower so I can get on the Wii Fit ...

Lulumaam · 22/10/2010 19:25

after ym low syn smuggery, i've slightly ODd on syns. i'm blaming it on this rotten cold, i have been v good this week though, so should balance out oK !!

ElizabethWakefield · 22/10/2010 20:02

Evening everyone, just checking in and nice to see I was missed Smile

Sadly, I have not really being off enjoying myself, well I was initially, then it all went downhill.

I think I mentioned my mum had gone in for an operation, gall bladder removal, well it had all seemed to go well initially, she got home, and I went off on holiday, while I was away she took a turn for the worse and got admitted again to another hospital seriously ill.

Turns out the surgeon had totally messed up her operation, burst the gall bladder inside her, didn't clean it up, and just stitched her up, so she ended up seriously ill with a major infection, so bad that it had damaged her bowel Sad So I came home from holiday. She was really bad for a few days, then started to pick up.

She got home yesterday, but is still taking 15 antibiotics a day, as well as painkillers, and various bowel medicines, and is having to see a nurse everyday as she basically has a huge open wound on her stomach. It has been a disaster from start to finish. There is being a formal meeting to discuss it all, as the 2nd hospital feel the 1st was negligent. So she is a little better but still has a long way to go! Sad

So, basically, I have been awful on the diet, missed 2 classes and have been eating all kinds of bad things, grabbing take aways when I could etc. Just can't seem to get back on track, I am just so stressed!!

Will miss the class again on Monday, need to help my mum to an appointment, so am going to just try to start afresh on Monday and try my best. Haven't even weighed myself as I am far too scared Sad

Sorry for going on Blush

Will now go back and catch up with everything I have missed and find out how you are all getting on Smile
