So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

i am finding this last couple of days so hard

forgot to take my lunch to work, so subsisted on fruit and black coffee this morning.

had chicken breast marinated in yoghrut, then griddled with boiled rice which was lovely, but then i was hungry an hour later

had some celery with laughing cow in it ( hex a) for a snakc. but am longing for biscuits and crisps

not had dinner yet as just actually cannot be bothered, but got a load of girlfriends round later and not sure i can avoid eating crisps and drinking wine..

am thoroughly bad tempered and bored of it all now but don't want to give up so soon.

i feel like all i've done is cook, eat, think about food, plan meals, go food shopping and write lists of what i've eaten

findingtheRialme · 24/09/2010 20:25

I know that feeling luluSad

I am starving tonight. The leek and potato soup was nice, but I think I am needing to make up for yesterday nowHmm

ditavonteesed · 25/09/2010 07:57

hope everyone had a good night last night, sounds like it was a busy one all round.

dontcxallme I can't believe you ate one cookie, that is purely saintly.

Wyken glad you drew that line, do you know I hadn't even thought about puppy destruction on the xmas tree argh that is going to drive me mental. hope you have a nice lunch for your mums birthday.

elizabeth what did you have at the curry house and wasa it lovely, I am making a curry tonigt out of my cook yourself thin recipe book, haven't worked out how mnay points in it though.

Finding, I love charts and graphs and list and all things of that nature, I spend ages looking at the graph on the wii.

lulu, you need your mojo back, hope you had a good night with the girls last night. what would inspire you, you want to look at clothes, what do you like we could all find nice things for you to droool over. If that would work I am working towards this dress or one simular for that websire for my sil wedding next june.

Sushi was fantastic, I did have to take the dog out while the dc ate there chip shop chips though as I though I was going to explode. that done I had a baked pot for tea and even managed to save enough points for a couple of cans of lager which went down very well.
according to the wii I have lost a pound every day that I have been doing ww so that is 3 lb already since tues, I doubt very much it will be that much when I get on her scales at class though ( would be nice though) at a pound a day I could be at target in about 1 month, daydreams). xmas is a really good target if it's 13 weeks that between 1 and 2 stone. by sexy dress season.

findingtheRialme · 25/09/2010 13:43

that is a gorgeous dress ditaEnvy

my bug is sure helping the weight-loss, even though it is someone inconvenient and not overly dignified!

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Are you still not really feeling better Ria? Sad

Lulu, I know how you feel i had a few days like that last week, when i felt like I have to totally over think everything and be really organised in regards to food and taking things to work with me etc, but I feel a bit better about it now.

I was ok last night, had chicken pakora (probably not that great really) then a sweet potato, lentil and spinach curry, which was lovely, really tasty and probably not too bad either.

The week ahead is going to be a real struggle I have so much on and I know I wont manage to stick to the plan at all. Tomorrow my friend is having a lunch at hers for all the kids for her birthday and was saying last night she is making clotted cream scones and all kinds of nice things, that i will probably need to eat.
Then Monday is a school holiday, Tues, wed and thurs, I have a course in work that will be fully catered for, so will be all cakes and biscuits!! Then Saturday is DD's birthday party.

Afterwards, I am having people back to the house and was going to make dinner, but I am struggling with what to make that everyone will eat and will still be ok for me. Any suggestions welcome. There will be 7 adults, 5 kids (aged 5-10) and 3 toddlers.

Dita, lovely dress, it is good to have a target to work towards, and i would have also had to leave the house if there was chip eating going on!! Yum! Smile

May I join you?
I am an old hand at Slimming World, and lost 4 stone 3 yrs ago. Then life happened, things didnt go so well personally and I comfort ate my way back up. I hyavde had some health problems so exercising is a bit difficult, and that has compounded the health problems as my blood pressure is raised now.
I now need to lose the 4 stone plus another 2. ( I still had 1.5 to go to get to target when I fell of the wagon. I gained an extra half stone on top of what I was before)
I tried again with a different class, as I had moved, but couldnt get on with the group or consultant- they were all a bit cliquey, and not like my previous group.
Tried and failed online, but think couldnt do it without support. Then another group started near my work, but I think I was still in the wrong frame of mind.

I started again last week, using my books, and with another friend. Neither of us are going to group, for now anyway. We are both having to watch the pennies.
I am not due to weigh until Monday, but I couldnt wait and hopped on the scales this morning.
6 lbs down
Am really pleased. I realise that its only week one and most of it is water, but it's made me feel very motivated.
I have piles of SW magazines and 2 SW recipe books, so have been using them.

DontCallMeBaby · 25/09/2010 15:46

Dita I LOVE Vivien of Holloway dresses, but have always resisted on the grounds of really having nowhere to wear one. Someone needs to get married! You'll look like your namesake. :)

On the plus side last night I had Himalaya chicken ("Slow cooked fresh chicken with ginger, garlic, onion, tomato, coriander and Nepalese fresh masala") which was all sort of smooth and creamy but I don't THINK had actual cream in. It was delicious. However, I realised on the way there that I was unlikely to resist naan (one of my absolute favourite things, restaurant naan bread) and when the waitress walked past with a plate of it I was lost ... :o I also drank three pints of cider. But it's one meal, and I'm being good again today, plus I don't feel bloated or anything.

I've been riding my bike today, but very slooooowly. DD has finally learned to ride without stabilisers, so we went to her favourite greasy spoon for lunch, and I cycled so I didn't have to run the entire way to keep up with her (I do NOT run). We'd usually take the car though, so it's an improvement on that.

Elizabeth, how about a mix'n'match chilli? Either separate spicy and non-spicy for adults and kids, or you could put out a spicy tomato relish for grown-ups to stir into theirs. Then you could have rice, potato wedges, tortillas, tortilla chips for carbs (you'd be fine with the rice and the wedges if you did them with Fry Light), then salsa, sour cream, guacamole, cheese etc. There should be something there everyone would eat, even if it was just wedges and cheese (which is what DD would eat out of that lot).

Lulumaam · 25/09/2010 17:05

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/09/2010 07:46

Welcome Melty. 6lbs is amazing, I am hugely impressed. I have 6 stone to lose, seems a lot but them I tell myself one has gone already.

Dita, love the dress, it is gorgeous. How old is your dog? Ours is 15months, we got her in Oct last year and had to stick the Christmas tree on the piano. I don't think she'll be any better this year really, it's only a month ago we had something referred to in hushed tones as the sofa episode.

Rial, I hope you feel better very very soon, you poor thing Sad.

Lulumaam I agree with Dita about your mojo. Have you got something in your wardrobe you are longing to be able to wear but are an inch or two off being able to do so? Or could you buy something? Just so you've got something easy to achieve. Also can you sort out a menu plan for the week including enough tonsnack on then do an online shop so the whole week is done and dusted and there's less thinking to do. There are some good recipes in this month's magazine.

Elizabeth that sounds incredibly hectic, think damage limitation is the name of the game here. Or dare I say it, maybe a week doing weightwatchers as it is a lot easier to build in sarnies, biscuits etc. I did that on holiday in Germany, set my points to maintain weight and it did work despite having quarter of a cheesecake the size of the moon, and several other cake incidents.
I guess it is all part of the 'journey' they talk about though, letting go then getting back on track right after.

Dontcallme, you have just sorted out my menu for Friday, thank you! We have friends coming and I said I'd do Mexican, so that's the plan. Your curry sounds divine, my mouth is watering.

I went on the wii yesterday and it thinks I've list 3lbs and who am I to argue with it?! Am hoping it still thinks this by Thursday and adds another one or two to it, then I'd be extremely happy. It was my Mum's birthday yesterday so we went out for lunch. Mum has a habit of saying she'll have whatever I'm eating. She didn't half look gutted when a jacket spud with beans, salad and no butter turned up in front of her. She took no chances with pudding and had waffle with hot berries, the DCs had ice cream and DH and i sat there virtuously with nothing. So for tea it was takeaway and I had chicken chow mein. I was wearing a pair of trousers I haven't fitted into for about 3 years and managed to get a size 18 done up, without having to lie down to do them up . Couldn't breath much though so they are my Christmas target.

candyfluff · 26/09/2010 07:57

hi all - may i join you - i started 3 weeks ago at slimming world losing 3 and a half pounds in the first week and then just a pound and a half in the second week - get weighed again on tuesday ! - was diaspointed i had'nt lost more though - im sure if id had a poo before i went id of lost more Grin
am hungry most of the time and feeling deprived of nice food but i have so much to lose- about 5 stone and even then i would still be considered overweight- my bmi is 42%Shock
one good thing about group is that i ahve met a really nice lady - she shares my sense of humour and we are going to go swimming together

Melty · 26/09/2010 08:13

Thank you.
Everyone here seems to be doing really well.

I am trying to get into a lovely pink/red satin shift dress. (Jaeger, saved up for a 'Special' outfit, and managed to buy in a sale for £90)
I only wore it once ( it still upsets me)and have not been able to fit into it since, and a couple of dresses in the wardrobe that still have their tags on. I have such a lot of beautiful clothes, but none of them fit. Am wearing size 20 tops and 18 trousers and skirts, and to be honest they are getting a bit tatty, but I really dont want to spend money on MORE large sized clothes. I have spent a fortune on enormous bras. (Why are large bras so expensive??) And again, I have lovely pretty bras in the drawer (and matching sets) that dont fit. I hope that I have finally hit bottom so I can only go up (or down on the scales)

I love a nice curry and yesterday I did the Lamb Rogan Josh recipe from the SW website
Lamb curry
It was beautiful. Only 1/2 sin per serving on EE. Followed it by big bowl of rasberries and Fat Free Fromage frais with splenda. Felt so full and completely naughty!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/09/2010 08:14

Welcome Candyfluff. You have lost 5lbs in 2 weeks which is exactly what I did, though mine was 5lbs the first week, sod all the second week. Fingers crossed for 2lbs this week then half a stone has bitten the dust.

My BMI was 42.6 I think when I started, yesterday the wii said 39.2 so slowly going in the right direction. I have decided I'm losing 6 stone more which will get me to a BMI of 25. It sounds daunting but I'm fed up of trying then failing so I'm going to crack it this time - by Christmas 2012 I hope.

Please do eat more, the whole thing with SW is you don't need to be hungry at all, ever, as you eat to satisfy your appetite . And if that seems like vast quantities that is OK. For the deprivation thing I do know where you are coming from. I think the key is to building in treats with your syns. Work out what you are missing the most, look at the syns to see if you can fit it in. If not, find an alternative that is lower.

candyfluff · 26/09/2010 08:21

thanks - i know what the problem is - i just havent being buying enough fruit and veg to fill me up with my shopping costs have gone through the roof and dh is moaning about it and the fact the already my boobs are starting to disapear - i have no idea why the first thing that always goes when i lose weight is my boobs - i told him to kiss goodbye to his best friends hahahaha Wink
melty - why not have a look for clothes and bra's on ebay - that way while your between sizes you can get some newish clothes

loving the slimming world chips and surprisingly so do the kids and i think even dd has lost some weight ( poor love is built like her mother)

4andnotout · 26/09/2010 08:22

Hi can I join please?

I went to Weightwatchers on Thursday for my first weigh in, I was horrified that I was 16st5 as I'm only 4'11 so bmi is huge!!

The leader said my ideal weight is between 7.1 Shock and 8.12 but I'm keeping my goals simple and going for my 5% then 10% etc.

I've found sticking to the points easy but I've had to change my shopping habits completely and I did my first ever online food shop and I'm converted!! So much cheaper as we didn't get sucked into buying loads of cakes and sweets and I only bought what we needed :)

We are taking the dd's swimming today so will try and get a few lengths in between giving dolphin rides Grin

Melty · 26/09/2010 08:24

CandyFluff,
I have completely stuffed myself all week.
I have had mostly extra easy days, some red and one green.
I have not been hungry once. If I am peckish, I have some lovely red lady apples in the fruit bowl. I have a twirl bar in the fridge in case of emergency, so if I need chocolate its there but I can stop at one bar.
Make sure you get your sins in. and yout healthy extras.
I went for dinner round my friends one evening and she cooked a Bill Granger spaghetti recipe (cheats carbonara - egg instead cream) and I have 2 huge portions.
suppers.html A couple more easy recipes]]
The first 2 I have cooked, and just adjusted the recipe for SW and sinned the sultanas.

I think the trick is to try and eat normally, but substitute where possible.
I love food, and would definitely feel deprived if I have to stick to points.

Melty · 26/09/2010 08:28

Candy, the trouble with buying bras on ebay if your boobs are enormous is you dont know what fits. So I go to get fitted properly. (Thank you John Lewis)I come out comfortable but poorer.
The clothes though, that is a good idea.
May just wander off for a browse...

candyfluff · 26/09/2010 08:32

i have joined the slimming world group on facebook ,there are so many recipes and photo's of what people are eating - have a look - given me some good idea's there is a raspberry pudding the whole thing is just 3 syns

Melty · 26/09/2010 08:35

And there is this blog too:

Brit Mum in Canada

She's doing slimming world online, and there are loads of recipes to tantalise the tastebuds.

candyfluff · 26/09/2010 08:38

i had some chocolate fingers last night - the guilt i felt was enormous plus ds was shouting syn everytime i ate one

Melty · 26/09/2010 08:40

Well, we are allowed to syn! Thats the whole point. I presume you didnt eat the box! Grin

candyfluff · 26/09/2010 08:43

no i had about 5- thing is id already used my syns that day !!! Blush

ditavonteesed · 26/09/2010 08:44

have been angelic all week, can I have a day off for dd1's birthday, please tell me it won't wreck everything. I am going to try not to over induolge but theree is way too much nice food hanging around this house today.

Melty · 26/09/2010 08:50

Dita and Candy, just call it a flexi day. Then get back on track.
Thats what my group leader used to say. She wasa trying to get us out of the guilty feelings. Sometimes you cannot do "the plan" exactly. Just do what you can but dont go hungry or you may end up binging.

Melty · 26/09/2010 09:21

This is that Bill Granger recipe from Bill's Open Kitchen, adapted for Slimmimg World.

Spaghetti with Prosciutto and eggs (serves 4)
Free on EE or Green ;2 syns per serving if not using cheese as HE

500g spaghetti
Fry light
2 garlic cloves finely sliced
Sea Salt
8 Slices Prosciutto chopped (or any lean ham)
60mls stock made with bovril
4 eggs
35g grated parmesan

60g finely chopped spring onions
Freshly ground black pepper
Shredded parmesan cheese (extra)

Cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente .

At the same time, cook garlic sprinkled with sea salt in fry light for 20 secs. Add ham and cook for 2 mins stirring occasionally. Add stock and cook for another minute. Remove from heat.
Place eggs cheese and spring onions in a large bowl and whisk with a fork until combined. Season with pepper. Combine the drained spaghetti with the ham mixture, then add the egg mixture and toss to combine. The heat of the cooked spaghetti will gently cook the egg.
Divide between 4 bowls and top with extra parmesan cheese.

Very easy and sooo delicious.

DontCallMeBaby · 26/09/2010 09:28

I find it helpful to know that it takes approximately 3,500 calories to put on a pound - this helped me rationalise that really I could NOT put my entire 6.5lb back on in the course of one curry!

I think this is also why I NEEDED to be on a plan - there is something to aim for, rather than 'I'll eat a bit less, and a bit better'. I found that really easy to just slip out of over a few weeks, until I was back to eating the same old crap.

Confession time - in the last two weeks, I've eaten breakfast only four times, and two of those were a pain au chocolat and a bacon roll respectively. I KNOW it's naughty to skip breakfast, but I just find that with the things I like for breakfast I've at least used all my healthy extras before 9am; at worst I'm into syns already. I suppose on the plus side I'm not snacking mid-morning to make up for it.
