So today is D day! Diet starts today, I have my first slimming world class tonight and i am feeling quite motivated. I think I probably have around 3 stones to lose, but i would be happy to even lose 2. I just feel fat and unhealthy and have never been this big before!

So today is day 1 of sorting myself out! Just wondered if anyone else was starting today too, not just slimming world, but any thing, and wanted to have somewhere to chat, swap ideas, or get some moral support?

What do you like?

Are you a fruit eater?
Big bowl of fruit and a muller light or fat free fromage frais with splenda.

Cook quorn sausages the night before, I bung mine in the oven, rewarm in microwave and have them with scrambeled eggs.
Grill some bacon or gammon. Have with a poached egg.

Make little mini SW quiches and keep in fridge. Heat up for brekky.

Im getting out of the habit of toast in case I need to get a sandwich for lunch.

I try to prepare my lunch the night before, or do double dinner portion and take to work. But I do have access to a microwave at work.
I normally have 10 syns to do by evening for tv indulgances.

Lulumaam · 26/09/2010 12:43

have been in a foul mood all morning and realised it's because i've not really eaten!

made myself flat mushrooms and tomatoes with spring onion , there were no eggs left, and i had no bread, and didn't want ryvita, then DH phoned whilst i was about to start eating, to ask me to look for something.. which turned out to be in his pocket Hmm brekky went cold and that was that. had a brew though

just been to the shops with the DCs, got a packet of turkey rashers under the grill and some nimble sprad with laughing cow Grin

candyfluff · 26/09/2010 13:45

ive has a sandwich with weight watchers bread and lean bacon blt now baking a slimming world cake
having a roast for tea - lamb - i cant wait

Lulumaam · 26/09/2010 15:29

we're having roast chicken, srpng greens ( odd in october!) , roasted baby new potatoes (frylight not olive oil) and low syn gravy.

if ican be arsed

have lost any motivation to cook anything at all

energy levels are at a minus level right now

DontCallMeBaby · 26/09/2010 17:30

Melty - nah, not a fruit person really. In fact really not a healthy-eating person, though I'm trying to change that. I could manage something like a Muller Light and an apple for breakfast - not the most filling, but better than nothing.

We had lunch out today. I shall draw a veil over that, as it is not good. We've been out for a walk this afternoon though, 2.5 miles, took two hours! There was tea 2/3 of the way round, it was done at DD's pace and there were a lot of us queuing for the stiles. So not exactly very aerobic, but it's got to count for something, hasn't it?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/09/2010 17:31

I can't face cooking either this evening. I wish I'd been a bit more organised and had something left in the freezer I could just defrost but I haven't. I'll have to do something with the left over chicken, probaby with some pepper, pasta and creme fraiche.

Cut the path down the side of my allotment today. 100 foot of it, with those long handled shear things and a rake. Then I harvested my butternut squash, 13 and another sodding marrow lurking under them and lug them up to the shed. My arms feel like jelly and I couldn't get warm when I got back in. If this doesn't make me fit and healthy eventually, I don't know what will.

Lulumaam · 26/09/2010 17:33

wow ! that sounds glorious, wish we could grow veggie, but teh dog would dig them up

Lulumaam · 26/09/2010 17:38

what will you do with all the veg?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/09/2010 17:44

We were very lucky to get an allotment and it's been a steep learning curve and I do Ferlinghetti under some pressure to keep it up to scratch, which it isn't at the moment, though not too bad.

Could you fence off a section to keep the dog off or stick some in pots somewhere out of reach? One thing I really recommend for next year are Sungold tomatoes, they really are absolutely delicious, have to be tasted to be believed, a grow bag would do the job and Wilkinson's sell little seedlings. Rainbow chard is fab as well, very easy and pretty to look at, I reckon you could do a bit in pots. We use the stems in curries and stirfries and use the leaves as a spinach replacement.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/09/2010 17:51

The butternut stores for months apparently. We have marrow issues but are going to do chutney with some green tomatoes and cooking apples which people have swapped for cucumbers. Have been munching on cucumbers all summer. A fair few corn on the cob to harvest soon and beetroot so need to do something with them. The spinach is still going, that tends to go in curries. I've got some lettuce which will help with the superfree bit of meals. DH has a bag of what look like large chilli's but seem to be spicy peppers, hopefully they will freeze.

It does look a bit like a greengrocers here at the moment, if anyone is in Dorset you are very welcome to help us out with the eating bit!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/09/2010 17:52

Ferlinghetti ? What is my phone on about! I feel under some pressure is what it was supposed to be.

Lulumaam · 26/09/2010 17:54

that's a good idea !! ys, the iphone has some weird ideas about spelling!

ditavonteesed · 26/09/2010 18:27

very Envy about the allotment, I was going to get one and my mum talked me out of it, ws when dd's were tiny and now there is a massive waiting list. today has been chaos and I am exhausted. 3eaten crap and feeling really bloated, good sign theat stomach not used to it anymore. 7yo girls are scary in vast quantities, the house is still standing though and kids upstairs doing there teeth, going to hit the sofa in ab out 10mins and prob go to bed at nine or something, back on the wagon good and proper tiommorow for weigh in on tues.use typing can't be bothered to go through and correct (have big hands and a netbook).

Keziahhopes · 26/09/2010 20:50

Wynken your allotment sounds amazing! We have one, but it is only small as they all are round here, so can't grow lots on it. But agree with the marrow issue. Have 3 butternut squash plants so hope for some of them to work! For beetroot, I peeled and grated it raw, with grated carrot, grated apple and some raisins - nice salad (can add mayo but I left it out).

Dita - took us 3.5yrs to get ours, worth the wait!

findingtheRialme · 26/09/2010 22:33

can i ask a gardening question? At the nurseries yesterday i saw winter lettuce plants - are they a good idea and what sort of care do they need? (I have a raised bed for a few veg and flowers to cut, but it only got finished a few weeks ago so haven't really used it) I really wanted to grow my xmas sprouts, but they had no plants.

I have around another 5 stone to go too, and have lost a stone already. Seems like a very long journey doesn't it?Sad

Am feeling a little better thanks, things seem to be fairly stable now. Have managed to do very gentle toning exercises last night and tonight. Have just remembered I am meant to be working out how to download music in similar intervals to the Cto5k podcasts as my DS1 wants to up his fitness ready for the cricket season next year, and I have said I'll do Cto5k with him Shock, but he won't listen to the podcast I have, and neither of us like dance music. Can't find anything else free on the 'net.

welcome to all the newbiesSmile I love being on a busy threadSmile

ditavonteesed · 27/09/2010 07:22

rial so glad your feeling better, it is a long journey, it is the rest of our lives. Smile I did the c to 5k a couple of years ago but just timed myself and used my oen music on ipod, I also can not stand dance music. it is a really good program.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 27/09/2010 10:32

Mmmm, like the sound of that salad Keziah. Fingers crossed for your butternut squash. Mine did nothing for ages then started really going for it.

Rial, glad you are feeling better. I grew some Winter Gem this year but didn't start them until about February. They were really lovely, very resistant to bolting for ages and I am definitely going to do them again. The packet says under glass for the winter so I think they probably do need to be covered for the depths of the winter but one of those plastic greenhouses would do the job. But they'll be fine outside for a bit I think.

Definitely is a journey, sounds cheesey till you start doing it and then you realise what people mean by it. I just keep telling myself that if I can crack it in a year and a half then it isn't really all that long. Sometimes that works, other times it doesn't. I found myself really jealous of DH who was quite shocked to find he needed to lose weight for the first time ever, 11 lbs. I kept on thinking why on earth did I not deal with it when it was at that level and not end up with 7 blinking stones to lose.

ElizabethWakefield · 27/09/2010 12:43

Well done everyone on all the loses over the past few days!

It is weigh night for me tonight. Feeling a bit nervous about it as although I started off yesterday well, it all went a bit down hill when my friend brought out clotted cream scones. Then later on in the evening I had to big slices of salt and pepper crusted tiger bread with butter that I had been trying my best to resist all day! Blush

Still school holidays here today so i am just about to head to xscape with DD and DP to play golf, so will try not to eat and add in a bit of exercise?!along the way!

Will report back tonight with my weigh in results

findingtheRialme · 27/09/2010 14:02

good luck EW.

not having a great day here - horrible time taking DS3 to nursery (he cried and cried, so did I Blush, and I nearly threw up from the upset.) Then I got a text to call my parents - cue every possible disaster scrolling through my imagination - my best friend from primary school has diedSad she was 4 days older than me, we are 32. Even though we haven't really been friends for maybe 10 years, it is still a big shock, such a tragedy as she had a young DS. Am glad to be on the sofa now snuggled up with a sleeping DS3Smile, have a killer headache and not hungry!

ElizabethWakefield · 27/09/2010 17:38

Oh no, what a horrible day Sad It must be such a shock for you. Was your friend ill, or was she in an accident? And poor DS too, it's so hard when they are like that.

How is he after you leave? I used to work in a nursery and mostly kids were absolutely fine once the parents left, whereas the parents spend the rest of the day feeling terrible.

Just have an easy night tonight and look after yourself Smile

While I was out I got a text to say my slimming class was cancelled as the leader is in hospital, so I decided I would just nip into burger king with dd Blush

I'm going to pop into my mum's later as she has really good scales just to see how my weight is (mine are broken due to DD going a bit mad in the shower and filling them with water Hmm) Well I hope they are broken as they are making me 2 and a half stones heavier than last week!! Shock Will try to get to another class at some point this week if I can.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 27/09/2010 17:44

Rial I am so sorry to hear about your friend, how very sad Sad. Please be very kind to yourself tonight, there's always another day for SW.

ElizabethWakefield · 27/09/2010 19:16

Weighed myself on my mum's super dooper scales and I was 3lbs off, so pleased!

Just hope it stays off til Wednesday when I can get to another class and make it official Smile

OP posts:
candyfluff · 27/09/2010 19:18

weigh in for me tomorrow morning - feeling that ive not lost any this week despite being relativley good

crossing my fingers and toes
rial sorry about your sad news

DontCallMeBaby · 27/09/2010 19:29

Sorry to hear about your friend Rial. It's surprising how hard deaths can hit, even when it's someone you are no longer close to, or even never were.

I am currently not doing Wii Fit ... I should be, but a Kindle arrived in the post today, and it is a little bit distracting. I must do something though, as I was on a course today and biscuits kept finding their way into my mouth. I don't have high hopes for weigh-in tomorrow.

Melty · 27/09/2010 20:08

Rial, what a horrible day. So sorry to hear that. Leave the food worries for a few days. Let yourself get your head around it.

ElizW, thats really good. Well done!

DontCallMeBaby I read that as I am correltly now doing Wii Fit and couldnt get my head around you balancing on the board and reading the kindle!

Wynken, men are sadly like that. My brother told me he was worried about my heart/BP and asked me if I needed to lose a stone or so. (A STONE! Actually, no one can believe how much I weigh. Maybe there really is such a thing as big bones. If so, mine are very big Grin )
He then marched me over to his weights and picked up the equivalent of a stone and said "imagine how you would feel if you weren't carrying that around"

Thanks bro. (Although actually he is right, but it would kill me to let him know he is!)

He is currently on a mad keep fit thing and thinks everyone should be doing the same as him, he is tormenting my lovely SIL to lose weight, and she maybe needs to lose 10 lbs or so.

I did proper weigh in this morning, and for week 1 have lost a total of 6.5 lbs.
I am now going to aim for 2 lbs a week til Christmas. Thats 32lbs in total if I dont fall off the wagon, and also allowing for a few 1lb weeks. That would be 2 stone.
I must keep saying it to myself.(2 stone, 2 stone, 2 stone) My pore old feet would probably thank me.

Tell me, those of you doing extra easy, does it realy work? Every week? I kind of dont trust it!! It just seems wrong to be eating red and green together, although I am also having lots of Superfree fruit and veg.
I always did better on red days in the old days.....
