Should I mention my husband's Mounjaro side effects and eating my lunches

I'm not supposed to know DH is taking mounjaro but do. I've had to endure three months of awful mood swings, temper tantrums, nausea, violent tummy upsets. However, he has lost a lot of weight.

He insisted on buying and cooking his own food. Which upset me at first but I've got used to.

However, I did my own shop yesterday for lunches, coronation chicken planned for two lunches, cold meat for another two lunches. I had some chicken yesterday. Today all the chicken has gone and most of the cold meat.

Now I've said nothing because his mood swings have abated, he's being nice.

Should I say something or just be grateful that my DH is easier to live with.

He sounds a dick
tell him he needs to replace “your shopping”

having your own shopping is like a “housemate” situation tho not a marriage - I’d say him eating the cold meat is the least of your issues.

I have friends on MJ none of them have turned horrible as a result of it.

BramStoner · 07/08/2026 13:59

I have never heard of MJ causing mood swings. Are you sure that's all he's on?

LittleEsme · 07/08/2026 14:00

Call him out on it OP. It’s HIS choice to be on WLI and you shouldn’t be suffering because of it.

LittleEsme · 07/08/2026 14:01

If he’s got violent stomach and bowel issues, then is he on too high a dose?

Bjorkdidit · 07/08/2026 14:02

I couldn't help mentioning that there seems to be an element of 'what's his is his and what's yours is his too' about grocery shopping. If he didn't buy it, it's not his to use, according to his rules.

7238SM · 07/08/2026 14:03

I've been on it 3mths and had no mood swings at all, nor read on the various forums of anyone having this. Of course I'd bring it up, even in a 'did you eat all my meat because of the mounjaro?' way. i'm sure you've mention him on other threads.

He doesn't sound nice at all- lying, mood swings, wanting separate food then eating yours. I woudln't want to live with someone like that.

MasterPretender · 07/08/2026 14:04

I can't imagine a universe where my husband wouldn't tell me that he's on mounjaro, or that I wouldn't ask him about it if I thought he was, or discuss his losing a lot of weight suddenly.

Don't most married people talk to each other about important things in their lives??

GiveMeWordGames · 07/08/2026 14:05

Whatever he's on, is he getting it from a legit source? Because all this mood swing stuff is not at all a normal side effect of MJ. If anything, people usually find the opposite.

Ruthietuthie · 07/08/2026 14:06

I too haven't heard of the mood swings as a side-effect.
From the things he ate, it sounds as if he needs protein in an easy to access form - something he can just grab from the fridge. And the things you bought are perfect for that.
So, I suppose, the solution (to it all - to the mood swings, if they are coming from hunger, and to the upset stomach, if that is coming from eating too rich food) is better shopping. Your husband needs to buy easy-to-access protein and make that the first ingredient of his meals. (To be clear, that's a "him" problem, not yours).
In an ideal world, you could talk to him, sharing that this wasn't working for you for multiple reasons, perhaps move back to joint shopping (so there isn't this uncomfortable "my food" "Your food" situation), and he could have the insight to realize that his current diet on the injections, while working for weight-loss, isn't sustainable in multiple ways. Is such a conversation possible?

On the injections, my suppression was so high that I often struggled to eat at all, but something easily accessible in the fridge - perhaps some cooked chicken, or yoghurt, say - would seem manageable. I could then add vegetables or fruit and end up with something I could face but which still met some of my nutritional needs.

BramStoner · 07/08/2026 14:07

Any chance he's taking steroids for muscle building? Would fit with the protein and mood swings.

SilenceInside · 07/08/2026 14:11

Mood swings and temper tantrums are not normally side effects of Mounjaro. Taking food that you planned for your lunches is not on and you should be able to raise it with him without him losing his temper or being in an unpleasant mood. And that’s got nothing to do with his weight loss or his weight loss medication.

Poppingby · 07/08/2026 14:20

Why is he keeping it a secret and why aren't you telling him you know? That will fester.

I can't say I understand your separate food thing but it is out of order for him to eat your stuff. However it's he struggling to know how to prepare healthy food? Do you generally eat unhealthy food?

As to mood swings I have to say I felt emotionally dreadful for a while starting MJ. Presumably because an old dysfunctional way of coping with horrid emotions was no longer available to me.

Unless he is a dick usually I would probably just bring it all up and have a good chat about it. If he's a dick usually you know the drill.

WallaceinAnderland · 07/08/2026 14:30

Why aren't you supposed to know? Doesn't it have to be kept in the fridge?

He too struggled to eat. Been living on poached chicken and tuna steaks with vegetables.

I suspect he's not injected last Friday because he was rough for a couple of days every weekend. He's under the gp and buys from the pharmacy next door. His appetite has now kicked in again and the fridge is pretty bare to be honest.

If you Google mood swings are a thing, perhaps men are more affected. I've had three kids so nausea and stomach upsets aren't unusual and I worked my way through them. Whereas men never experience this. He wants to feel well not shitty.

He definitely increased the dose last month because he's paying more.

I've read on here of the hunger noise I suspect he's got that. Weirdly I've not seen or heard him eating extra it's a very secretive habit done god knows when.

Everyone's got an opinion on WLI.
Some partners will huff about cost/ the health risks/ some bullshit about it 'being lazy'. For some people they carry a stigma, maybe OPs DH was worried about looking vain or that WLIare for women who knows? But it's not beyond imagination that someone might chose to keep it private.

But I do agree, if a partner lost a few stone, you'd think their partner would comment.

OP if he set up the stupid 'Buy my own food' situation then tell him to stop fingering your chicken. Maybe he needs to up his dose if he's getting the munchies.

Deadleaves77 · 07/08/2026 14:39

Are you 100% it MJ hes taking? Could he be taking steroids as well?

MJ shouldn't make you have temper tantrums or mood swings, it doesn't make you a terrible person. I also wouldn't expect the food noise to come back so drastically you stuff your face with everything in the fridge after missing one dose

Personally yes Id confront him. Id also tell him you know hes been taking MJ, you respect his decision but he can't keep behaving like a knob. If he wants seperate food shops then he needs to stick to that and he needs to learn to control his moods. Perhaps the secrecy of the situation is triggering the tantrums?

SpiralSister · 07/08/2026 14:40

But mood swings aren’t really a thing - I mean, people may experience them because they have changed their eating habits and/or lost the crutch of food, but that’s not the drugs per se, despite what social media might tell you.

He sounds an odd cove anyway with all the secrecy. What would happen if you had a conversation?

dreamingofgoodhair · 07/08/2026 14:41

Why on earth are you pretending you don’t know ? Is this coming out of the family budget ?

SilenceInside · 07/08/2026 14:42

How is he “under the GP” but also buying it privately from a pharmacy? How do you know any of this if he hasn’t told you?

This is a relationship issue not a WL medication issue. You need to be able to talk to each other about all these sorts of things, like him dealing with difficult side effects rather than grumping about it on his own.

No i don't eat unhealthy food. I eat a lot of salads with some protein. I also enjoy vegetables. He only likes peas.

I struggled for a time when he started eating solo foods i couldn't eat because he's into chillis and lots of garlic which don't like me. It's easier to shop solo and buy my own portions of vegetables, proteins. I've had two new hips in the last year and need the good nutrition especially now. But I do have carbs which DH won't. His diet is much more limited. No dairy, nothing that grows underground, no red meat . Now I feel my body needs dairy, red meat and root vegetables just now.

His calendar appointments and bank statements.

If you read other mounjaro threads lots of women tell no-one. It's a private medical issue they don't wish to share for whatever reason. They get support on those threads. Why should it be different for a man I decided.
