@Springflowers2 This is exactly it, I have already got some loose skin and would worry about getting even more. A size 14 would be a dream but I think a size 16 would be realistic as a far off dream. I don’t think my BMI will be going down below 25 to get into the normal range but I’d be happy with just being overweight instead of 55.5 where I started so super morbidly obese!

Same as me ,I think I worked my starting BMI out as 55 as well ,I think it's 29 now ,last time I looked ..I'd love another 3 stone of ..but if I'm honest I'm struggling maintaining a 14 stone 10 weight .
I'm on 10 mg of monjroro as I was trying to drop down .
But it's difficult,I might have to go back up to 12 or 15 again
I really can't face the thought of having to be on this medication for life
But this month ,being on 10 mg ,I really noticed how much it was helping me on a larger amount..if that makes sense

newtothegreen · 31/07/2026 15:07

Hi all and wow some amazing scale and NSVs! So inspiring to read.
I can’t remember which of us posters says that they are a slower loser, but I am also in that camp and am coming up to my 1 year anniversary with a c. 5 stone loss. So not to be sniffed at but slower than others and (obviously) slower than I’d like (because nothing is ever good enough for me!).

What I’m really interested in at the moment though is those of you who have taken a break and come back to the medication. I am currently taking 11.25 but my eating is out of control. I did so well to begin with but over the last 8 weeks have bobbed around the same weight. Which for £600 (plus costs associated with the additional food ☹️) is an expensive couple of months. I’m not sure what I will decide, just wanted to say thanks for everyone’s honesty as is it so easy to go into a self destructive bubble and assume that everyone’s journey is perfect apart from mine.

Have a good weekend all, and keep doing those amazing horse riding/zip wiring/ buying fab new clothes things as we 100% deserve it!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 31/07/2026 16:29

I have had the best NSV today. I'm on holiday and have walked the 15 minutes from our accommodation to the little town, explored the town centre and harbour, explored the massive royal palace and gardens and then walked back.

My knee is absolutely killing me now, but I did last. Last year, 30 kg heavier, I would have driven to town and got stressed about parking, only explored the ground level of the castle rather than all 4 floors, and definately not walked around the gardens and town centre.

My 13 year old complained about aching legs before I did.

PearlsTeapot · 31/07/2026 17:16

Love that @MrTiddlesTheCat being able to do normal things like that feels so good doesn't it?

The other day DW said wait here, I'll go and do this thing and I was like no I'll come with you and she said oh yes I forgot you don't mind walking anymore! She was so used to me saying 'I'll sit here and wait for you'.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 31/07/2026 20:29

Yes it does @PearlsTeapotalthough it makes me sad for all the lost years.

PearlsTeapot · 31/07/2026 21:26

I feel sad for the lost years too sometimes. So many years spent sat on benches while my life passed me by.

But! Onwards and downwards we go.

I’ve decided I am going to slimming world for a bit and see how I get on. I need to do something and it’s worth a go for me I think. I messaged a group leader and she was lovely about the mounjaro and my weight loss so far.

canaritini · 01/08/2026 07:05

I'm travelling right now. Weighing our luggage at the airport made me realise that I have lost as much weight as the 3 pieces of baggage shown in the photo: 37 kg (16 kg suitcase + 12 kg suitcase + 9 kg for the backpack)!
I struggle to carry that luggage now but had to carry around all that weight before.
Also I'm amazed by the volume of the weight which must have been distributed all around my body. I most likely looked enormous without realising how big I really was...

Whatalunatic · 01/08/2026 12:28

I don't post here usually but did post at the start of my journey exactly 12 months ago (with a different user name). I started with huge scepticism having tried everything - at my heaviest was 21 1/2 stone and managed to lose a couple of stone cutting back on carbs. However my diabetes was worsening and I didn’t qualify for NHS support for MJ.. So bit the bullet and gave it a go.

I worked really hard at the psychological side of things - failed diets by starving for a week and only lose 1lb and just finding that utterly depressing. I realised, however, that 52lbs over a year would make a difference so decided I would look to the long term only. I decided I wouldn't weigh myself (have weighed myself precisely 3 times, including today, in 12 months) and would rely on dropping dress sizes and comments from others. I teach so a lovely colleague in school noticed straight away in September and has been supportive ever since - this quiet support has meant the world to me.

I have obviously cheated the online pharmacies a bit - most months just take off 4-5 lbs and have done the actual weigh ins to keep me on track with this - I don't want to get it too wrong. I have been lucky with side effects - my hair is definitely thinner and I am feeling the cold in ways I never have but nothing else.

And here I am. 365 days later and exactly 5 1/2 stone lighter. Approx 5 dress sizes down. I was wearing 32-34 and am now 22 and own several dresses in 20 and 18 and even one that says 16 (it's big, but what the hell...16!). I have lived in charity shops and car boots and use Vinted. I have a whole new wardrobe and feel great mentally. I have amassed a ton of costume jewellery which makes me feel amazing. My knees don't bother me nearly as much and I feel brighter, more cheerful overall.

There is still a way to go. I suspect next year will be harder. But I just wanted to post to say it can be done and it is amazing. I will look in from time to time to see how everyone is doing.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/08/2026 12:33

Hey @Whatalunatic that's such an inspiring post.
Well done!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/08/2026 12:34

So is the picture of the luggage @canaritini

Wow!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/08/2026 12:41

Well, I'm doing just fine.

I had an MRI yesterday.

No further symptoms of serious illness, and I can walk and talk normally now.
Am about to start a course of Vit. B12 injections at the GP's surgery as I am seriously deficient. Nobody seems to know why, but I'm trying to stuff myself with mackerel and tuna.

Keep going, everyone. Just a reminder that I started on MJ two and a half years ago, and have lost 10st 7lb.

I've gone from 20st 2lb to 9st 9lb.

BMI has gone from 50.4 down to 23.5.

I'm a size 8-10. I used to be a size 26.

So yes- keep going, all of you.

I'm titrating my dose down now. Currently on 7.5mg/week.

I still love this thread. It has been a source of love and support for many, many months now.

Whatalunatic · 01/08/2026 12:47

MrTiddlesTheCat · 31/07/2026 20:29

Yes it does @PearlsTeapotalthough it makes me sad for all the lost years.

This resonates with me. I don't know if it helps but I am determined only to be positive - I got there. It may have taken some time but I got there. I can live now. I can't change the past but I can choose to let it go, let it become a memory and live right now. Being sad at something I can't change will just stop me living life to its fullest today. And I really want to live today. So that's what I'm doing. Take care x

PearlsTeapot · 01/08/2026 15:06

What a great post @Whatalunatic so pleased for you that you’ve changed your life in a year. I wish I had the discipline not to weigh in! Enjoy your new clothes and think where you’ll be in another year.

@canaritini love this picture! Says it all doesn’t it. I couldn’t carry all that luggage but used to carry it on my poor legs every day!

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne so glad you’re doing better. I have been thinking of you xx

EnterSandfan · 01/08/2026 15:54

Good to hear from you @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne , I'm glad you're doing better x
I agree about this thread. I only discovered you guys in November when i started MJ, but it's actually been the most insightful, inspiring and educational 'thing' I've ever found with regards to weight loss (and like most of us I had tried everything else in the past!)
I've learnt so much since reading here, and I've seen proof that it really is possible for someone like me to lose weight ❤️

Billybingbong · 01/08/2026 16:48

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne so lovely to hear you're feeling better, we've all been willing you on. What a scary time for you x

@canaritini I love your luggage comparison, it's such an eye opener isn't it. I did similar with potatoes at our local cash & carry a few weeks ago. I couldn't even lift 1 sack of spuds, yet I've lost the weight of 2 of them!

@PearlsTeapot Good look at Slimming World, I hope the weekly accountability weigh ins help you get back on track x

@Whatalunatic so so true. We can't change the past, but we sure as hell can enjoy the present and embrace the future ❤️

Ketra · 01/08/2026 18:52

So nice to hear from you @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne and glad to know that you are doing better.

wendywoopywoo222 · 01/08/2026 20:53

@Whatalunatic. That’s amazing. No idea how you stayed off he scales. I find it hard to not weigh every day.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne. Glad to hear that you are feeling better.

ive been at a music festival for two days, wouldn’t of gone ten stone heavier so was at the front of the stage dancing wildly in the rave tent for hours. Something I have never done before. I have a few regrets for missing out for so many years but making the most of every day now.

i could sleep for a week. 😴

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 01/08/2026 20:58

Love all these NSV! And so agree about going places and just feeling "Normal." Not nec not overweight just within the bounds of normal rather than clearly morbidly obese we all started out at.

And so agree re being able to cross legs, "curl up' on sofas and in corners etc. And walking! All the walking! Just "inhabiting" my body feels different. It took so much energy and "head space" to exist as someone morbidly obese.

Wow @canaritini thats amazing!!! To see it visually like that. But also gosh yes we were literally carrying weight all the time weren't we.

And @Whatalunatic what a locely post to read. Congratulations! And amazing to look back over a year and see the changes!

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne So pleased to hear you're okay. And amazing your bmi is so low and you can titrate down! Ive loved following in your footsteps just months (and months) behind you.

I jabbed yeaterday and it feels odd not weighing but no scales here. I'm curious what I'll weigh when I get home fingers crossed.

I read recently about most weight loss being in 18months and got worried I wouldnt continue to lose. My current fear is "maintaining" higher than I want to and not being able to titrate down as thats so my plan for affording this long term

I have photos I've taken of me and my overhang I may share but not sure really of motivation as I can't afford surgery! Sympathy maybe. It does look okay now with clothes on.

I went for a walk today by a river that involved lots of going up and down and scrambling across rocks and uneven ground . Its was truly beautiful and I think I may have bored my husband with the number of times I said how excited I am I can do this now! I truly was managing "Going Out" before MJ by researching car parks and terrain and planning rest periods ...

Fffreeeeezing · 01/08/2026 21:44

My favourite Next trousers are getting a bit baggy (size 16/18) so I found the same ones on Vinted in the next size down. I did not expect them to fit, they are a size 12/14 and non stretchy cotton but good god, they actually fit 😮😮. I’m going to assume Next have dodgy sizing but I’m still secretly pleased 😂

I’ve stayed the same this week, my period has randomly and very unexpectedly turned up today so I imagine that’s the reason for no loss so I’m not concerned and will cross my fingers for a whoosh next week.

Only 4lb until I hit the 14stone bracket and a BMI under 35, hurrah! After that it’s only 10lb until I’ll be in the 100’s which feels like a huge milestone.

Onwards and downwards everyone

ConfusedMiddleAger83 · 01/08/2026 21:59

What an inspirational set of updates, thought I’d log my own.
@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne so pleased to hear you are on the mend now.

Scaleswise I’ve hit 8.5 stone loss in 63 weeks. I’m down from 50 BMI to 30.4 today, tantalisingly close to being ‘just’ overweight.

Spoke to the GP again this week about my gastritis pain and they weren’t very helpful, basically said there’s nothing additional to be done medication wise and I shouldn’t increase my MJ dose. I’m on 4.5mg which is just about tolerable and will just have to be patient I guess with the losses that have definitely really slowed.

My NSV is that I went back to my old uni town last week and met up with a couple of friends I haven’t seen since I put on the weight, which has mostly been since the pandemic. Was so great to not have that fear of judgement of how big I’d got as they have missed it all. I still have a bit of a way to go but feel I look fairly ‘normal’ now too.

Missingducks · 02/08/2026 15:58

Light-hearted: just met up with some friends I've not seen since Christmas but in a group setting. She asked whether I have lost weight, then quickly covered her tracks and said "actually I can see you have lost weight and I hope it's intentional", so I said "actually I've got a better hair cut" and defused all the awkward conversations.

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 02/08/2026 21:56

Delighted to hear you’re on the mend @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne

The luggage is a real eye opener isn’t it @canaritini? I was carrying a 10kg backpack the other day and realised that I’ve lost the equivalent of 5.5 of them! I don’t actually know how I was hauling it all around.

I’m in Whitby at the moment, which is pretty hilly. I’ve been loads of times before, and am absolutely shocked by how much easier it all feels now. I was six and a bit stone heavier the last time I was here. Everything is so much less effortful.

Theringcycle · 03/08/2026 08:35

Hi friends, I’ve not been on Mumsnet for a few weeks so only just catching up - sending good wishes to you all. My loss has slowed in the last couple of months but it’s still a slow downward line and from early Feb I’m 14.3kg (31.5lb) down, which I’ll take! But the major thing I wanted to share is that I had an hba1c at the end of June (I’m prescribed mj for diabetes) and it’s dropped from 91 to 43. Metabolic / endocrine health was a major factor for me and I was finding it very hard to control my blood sugar on other medication and thought I was bound to need insulin soon, but here I am at barely-diabetic levels.
