@PearlsTeapot good luck with the new job today, I hope you have a fab first day

I hit another milestone this week, I'm finally into the 100's. Only just, 199lb, but from my starting weight of 316lb, I'm pretty happy. Only another 2lb, and I'll be at 8 1/2st loss 🥰

Have a great day everyone, I hope you're all coping with this heat, it's pretty scorching here. I'm going for a sea swim tonight, and think I might brave just a cossie & no wetsuit, eek

PearlsTeapot · 13/08/2026 20:23

Have a gorgeous swim in your costume @Billybingbong and thanks for the luck!

Day one in the new job done and I’m feeling happy. Got paid to pet dogs and give them treats, what more could I want? Just a little job in a happy place which is just what I need at this stage of my mental health recovery.

First weigh in at SW today and I've lost 1.5lb meaning I have FINALLY seen a 14 on the screen! 14.13 and I'm chuffed to bits, I haven't been 14 something for 16 years since I was pregnant. Hopeful this plateau is finally starting to move again and my week on SW wasn't too bad at all.

Billybingbong · 13/08/2026 23:56

Thanks @PearlsTeapot, I had a wonderful swim, I loved it.

It sounds like you've had a brilliant day all round. Good first day at work, petting dogs, brilliant first weigh in result, you are flying high, and very well deserved 💕

@PearlsTeapot good luck for tomorrow!

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne where did you get the new style pen from?

I got under target at the weekend but then on Monday I'd increased again so I very much doubt I'll be at target tomorrow 😔 starting to have some sympathy for those people who try and lose weight but don't need to lose a lot!

Sorry I’m new to Mounjaro, what do you mean?

Castlebark · 14/08/2026 07:49

@PearlsTeapot congratulations on the new job! Lovely to hear it went so well.

Week 26 weigh in for me, and a gain of 0.6kg. Absolutely not surprised as I had keyhole surgery this week, so taking it very easy for a bit while I recover. I'm just very glad the scales are back under 100kg, compared to a couple of days ago. Is surgery weight like holiday weight? 🤔

SW 122.7 kg (19 st 4 lb)
CW 99.2 kg (15 st 9 lb)

The anaesthetist was quite chatty about WLI and said ideally you should be completely free of drugs before surgery, but that would take at least a month. Instead he said he used a slightly older technique, and I was asked to stop the jabs 1 week out from the op.

Hunger didn't come raging back, so I'm taking this as an opportunity to drop back down from 7.5mg to 5mg.

Fffreeeeezing · 14/08/2026 10:59

I was 'asked' this morning by a work acquaintance (whilst walking the dog, bumped into her, couldn't escape quick enough sadly) in a slightly accusingly manner "you've lost weight haven't you"
I hate this, still find it awkward, I mumbled yeah, a bit and she said "more than a bit" Then came the ridiculous question "did you do it yourself?"

What a bloody ridiculous question! No Susan, I paid another person to do it for me, they sneak in at night and lop bits off me, I wake each morning slightly thinner, it's a pricey service but well worth it I think 🙄

Of course I just said yes and she then proceeded to tell me about how she lost 3st on Slimming world.

Just what I wanted, awkward conversations about work and weight pre 8am!

BritbirdUK · 14/08/2026 11:07

Just did my week 8 weigh in and have lost another 4lbs. So, in total, I have now lost just over 3 stone since the 26th June. I start a new pen tonight - still not liking 5 though, I am often hungry and a lot more food noise. It is only 4 weeks though so giving it a chance before I go up to 7.5 especially given the weight loss so far.

AmberLime · 14/08/2026 14:09

I don't seem to face any awkwardness from the "you've lost weight..." comments. I am very open and positive about Mounjaro though, which helps. The conversation always goes the sane way

  • Initial comment like, you've lost weight, or whatever
  • I always reply with "Yeah, 7 1/2 stone now" (or wherever I am) and a big smile
  • I tend to get a "Whoh" type response, the amount is shocking to most people. But om not going to lie just because its a big amount.
  • As they are looking shocked, I usually jump in with something like "2 stone to go" (or whatever) to cut off any comments about losing enough.
  • Almost always, that gets a positive response like "You look amazing" or "well done". I don't often get people asking how I lost weight nowadays, because I was open early-on so they all know im on WLI. Im quite open about it if asked.

Im also open about the fact that the challenging part isnt losing weight with WLI, its maintaining it long term - I think that's the part people can be judgy about, so I acknowledge it directly.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 14/08/2026 15:33

Well done @Billybingbong 🎉.

Wahooo first day at work @PearlsTeapot 🎉

@BritbirdUK You are losing tons which is great - but honestly if you are feeling hungry.... it might be worth eating more. You dont need to make it harder than it needs to be honestly. And ideally most people now don't go up if they're losing as there's no point!

I'm away for the weekend. Jabbed this morning but really looking forwards to the heat being over. I', so tired and I'm hoping its heat rather than mounjaro/ nutrition related.

Ketra · 14/08/2026 19:59

@BritbirdUK It is normal to lose a lot in the first few weeks but like @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I would say you don't need to be feeling hungry, especially early on - bear in mind this is a long journey and the easier you can make it for yourself the better.

I'd suggest upping your calories slightly and see if that addresses the hunger whilst still allowing you to lose some weight.

And yes, whilst originally everyone went up every month, now MJ has been around a while most people have learnt to stick with a dose until its not as effective, especially early on. I click counted at times but generally did 8 weeks on 2.5; 21 weeks on 5; 7 weeks on 6.25; 19 weeks on 7.5; and just went onto 10mg 2/3 weeks ago. It's a long journey for us here!

MisfitMagpie · 14/08/2026 22:00

I'm on holiday and wore a bikini for the first time in at least 15 years, may only wear it on my terrace but I felt good in it.

On a separate note does it ever not be exciting seeing the spare seat belt no longer needed on the plane?

AlicesMum2025 · 14/08/2026 23:34

Amazing @MisfitMagpie

I really want to go on a plane just so I can experience not having to ask for the seat belt extender. Closest I've got is getting a bus for the first time in years this week and not worrying about taking up too much space. On the way, someone sat next to me and I didn't feel like I had to squash myself against the window to give her room. On the way back, I sat next to a man and didn't have to sit half off the edge of the seat into the aisle. Such simple things that other people probably don't think about but make such a difference to the way we exist in the world. Fancy that, it's possible to go about your day without apologising for how much space you take up.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 15/08/2026 06:42

@Castlebark hope your surgery went okay and you are recovering well.

I think from experience (ie no medical knowledge whatsoever) weight is funny after an operation or hospital stay as your fluids are all different and your body is in recovery. Def focus on esting well to support your body. Hope you recover soon.

Seats are great arent they. I was on a field recently and realised I didnt worry about camping chairs at all.

I so relate to that comment about nor.al people not having a clue what evereryday life was like and how hard it was. And yes to the apologising jusg for taking g up space. In so many senses.

I met up with friends ive not seen in a year yesterday. V complimentary and "didnt recognise you!" And "do you feel better for it?".

All nice people but so aware im now in normal/acceptable category now rather than clearly extremely obese/special category.

But also... instead of being shamed we should have had medals for managing what we did!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 15/08/2026 07:02

I hate it when people ask 'do you feel better for it?'. Of all the comments about weight, this is the one that feels most judgemental. Why are they assuming I felt bad before? I know a lot of people have health issues from their weight but I didn't really - I could do parkrun, walk around an attraction all day, climbed the stairs at work rather than getting the lift, ate my 5 a day, had normal blood pressure/cholesterol/HbA1C etc. But as soon as someone asks if I feel better, I feel like they were always feeling sorry for me before, assuming that I had health issues, or body image issues, or otherwise didn't like myself/feel good in my body, and I feel judged.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 15/08/2026 07:54

I've tried something different this week - I haven't been counting my calories. It started as just a day of not bothering as I was out all day, but I still couldn't be bothered the next day so I decided to stop logging my foods and see what happened. Pre-MJ that would have led to the end of my weight loss and a gain over several stone before managing to get back on track, but MJ me just carried on eating reasonably healthily. Not perfect (I did enjoy some cheese on toast!) but much much better than I would have been in the past. I've been choosing food based on what I feel like eating at that time rather than how many calories are in it, so intuitive eating I guess, and also have found that I haven't been weighing daily either which is unusual for me. I guess this is what 'normal' people do! It feels quite alien, but also quite good, so I think I am going to carry on like this for now and see what happens.

76 weeks, 10mg every 5 days.

CW 11st 5.5lbs
Change this week 1.5lbs
Total loss 110.5lbs/7st 12.5lb

I’m 0.25 away from normal BMI 😱 And I feel quite emotional!

I’ve been overweight since I was 9 years old, I’m now 61. I’ve had fluctuations and weight loss - heartbreak was always a pretty effective one for me - and many many attempts at dieting. SW, Harcombe, South Beach, Atkins, Rosemary Conley, the ridiculous one with all the eggs and grapefruit…

None of them were ever that effective or sustainable, so this is a whole new world.

I have a little wobbly tummy going on, but basically I’m not perceivably fat any more.

I don’t know what to do with myself!

BritbirdUK · 15/08/2026 16:16

Thanks for the advice ladies. Will try that and see how it goes!

TragicMuse · 15/08/2026 16:43

Have had a lovely afternoon out shopping, soundtracked with the chime of ‘not overweight, normal BMI’ sounding in my head. It’s just…unbelievable!

52soon · 15/08/2026 18:06

Just home from a shopping trip with the girls (I say girls we are all late 50’s-60’s) I’ve always been the biggest always enjoyed the company but hated shopping as usually couldn’t get anything in size 24, so I was the bag or purse buyer. Well today I bought a size 12 dress and it fit, it must have been a generous fit but still a 12. I am in shock 😂

Castlebark · 15/08/2026 18:39

@RenegadeKeeblerElf I love to read about your intuitive eating. That's got to be the longer term goal, eating without being overly restrictive or structured. I'm really hoping my new habits stick and become second nature at some point.

That's my hope. It's been a real revelation this week - usually I'm either weighing up options based on calories/health/whatever diet I am following at the time, or say fuck it and bingeing on anything in sight. This week I've been able to just eat without any emotion attached to the food and it's so freeing. I'll see how it goes for a few weeks; if i stop losing it may go back to calorie counting but it has given me an insight into what maintenance might look like (and I am under no illusions that it might need to be supported by MJ!).

EverybodysALebowski · 16/08/2026 10:50

A very weird NSV: I ripped back one of the three jumpers I knit earlier in the MJ thing that was too big. They were all too big because I kept thinking of myself in previous size, and because even when I recalibrated I've had trouble getting the right amount of ease. Now I've almost finished reknitting the yarn into a a new cardigan that is smaller. And it's still a little too big, but at least as a cardi I can get away with that. It really does take a while to get used to body changes, especially when they're happening slowly.

I've also discovered that my last few wool orders have been too much, as I keep buying for my previous body. Whoops. Guess I can put future wool savings towards paying for MJ.

(Speaking of which, @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne , as you'd mentioned thinking about it waaaaay up thread, I'd definitely recommend frogging and reknitting favourite handknits in your new size. For one thing it's amazing how much faster (and more gratifying) knitting garments is now for me, and I haven't lost nearly as much as you have!)

KLAXON! 📣

I AM NO LONGER OVERWEIGHT!

Lost a lb over night and have gone firmly into ‘healthy BMI’ and ‘normal’.

I’m sitting with it for a moment.

Because as I mentioned yesterday, I haven’t been here for over 50 years.

I thought I would cry. Maybe I will. But I am full of feelings and I don’t know what to do with myself.

It's a wonderful feeling, isn't it.
I can't get enough of looking at myself in the mirror these days.
Two years ago and for many years before that, I actually closed my eyes if I had to walk past the mirror. I couldn't bear looking at myself - but now - it's like I'm trying to reassure myself that I really am a healthy weight, and a size 10.

Well done @TragicMuse
