Yes, exactly. Weight goes up and down like yo-yo.

HelenDenver · 05/10/2026 17:23

Aaargh!

If the new 'spot' feels like a good one for levels, maybe weigh every day for the next few days and see if it calms down with the fluctuations and goes back to trending down?

Cheesecake53 · 05/10/2026 19:48

I think I'll do that and also two other things. I struggled to eat much and to reach my BMR (1477kcl according to the scale), so today I ate 1700. But I am also thinking of getting a basic digital scale. But first I'll see what the week brings. May it be a great success for us all!

ShrankLastWinter · 05/10/2026 21:48

Early in this journey I despaired of my inconsistent scales and bought some new ones. Nothing expensive, but I googled reviews to find ones where consistency was mentioned. I’ll have a look in my Amazon history to see what they are.

ShrankLastWinter · 05/10/2026 21:54

Here we go, it was this. £25.99 and still going strong:

Etekcity Smart Scale for Body Weight with App, 0.05lb High Precision
Bathroom Digital Weighing Scales for BMI, Fat, Muscle Mass, Smart Body Composition Monitor with App& Bluetooth, 400 lb/180 kg

i can’t do a link from Amazon but that’ll find it.

I’m pretty sure it’s just guessing or using a height ratio calculation for the body fat, but it’s super consistent for the actual weight measurement, which is what I cared about.

HelenDenver · 05/10/2026 21:56

I also have etekcity ones, a magazine rated them and others on here had mentioned them. I think they are great.

Cheesecake53 · 06/10/2026 07:08

After eating yesterday 1700kcl (over my BMR and under TDEE), today my scale graced me with 99.9kg, maybe my problem was eating under my BMR all along? I'll try it out all week now.

Cheesecake53 · 06/10/2026 07:09

If that's not it, I'll try Etekcity Smart Scale for Body Weight.

HelenDenver · 06/10/2026 07:14

Well done! Hope it settles and sticks below 100 now.

Mid week weigh in and I am 99.5kg! Hoorah, very pleased.

BMI is 35.7 so below 35 is my next goal.

I'm watching with interest. My intake is around 1200 most days but my weight loss has really slowed. In fact it's literally 2 steps forward 1 step back each week. I wonder about upping my intake for a week but I'm too nervous of gaining weight so I'll watch you!

HelenDenver · 06/10/2026 07:22

@MoneyJo a couple of the fitness influencers I follow suggest 12 weeks of deficit then one of maintenance to reset your body. I haven’t tried it yet either 😀 and aware they are probably not basing that on WLI jabs

Wow. I would love to hear from anyone on here who has done this.

Cheesecake53 · 06/10/2026 09:17

@HelenDenver that is a great loss! On to the 80s!!!

Cheesecake53 · 06/10/2026 09:31

I am curious too, @MoneyJo, what a week of 1700kcl will get me :). I still still might have a dodgy scale though ...

GiveMeWordGames · 08/10/2026 18:22

I had my flu jab today and OW! Now, I don't know for sure - it could be that this year's is a bit of a beast, it could be the jabber's dodgy skillz but I am deeply suspicious that all my missing arm fat made for a much stabbier experience.

I've had plenty of flu and covid jabs and rarely felt them at all, even the flu one this time last year when I was already 4 stone down.

Ah, well. Live and learn. I suppose there has to be the odd downside. 😁

Cheesecake53 · 08/10/2026 19:48

There is a thread that this year's flu jab is especially ehm fluey.

I saw that - it does seem to be hitting some people hard this year. I don't feel rubbish (yet!!) I was just surprised by how much I felt it.

Hatty65 · 08/10/2026 20:24

I must have been lucky! I had my flu jab last week. Felt nothing at all and have had no fluey symptoms.

Benefits of still being fat??? 😁😂

Emas82 · 08/10/2026 21:00

I had the flu jab last Friday and it really hurt! I felt like I could really feel the liquid go in and travel. No side effects though, literally not even an achy arm!

Yes, that! Felt like it took longer than usual too, but that could be an illusion because it was more painful.

SecondCircuit · 09/10/2026 05:30

Ooo, you got me scared now (I’m a chicken though 😅)...
I have a flu jab scheduled for next week and although have never had any problems in the past; the truth is - I had tons on padding before, didn’t I?

Must brace myself for some pain but mostly afraid of side effects and feeling rotten.
Ah well, we shall see.I will report how it went.

On another note, I’m at the stage where I’m quite confused where I’m standing and what I’m doing. Am I still losing? Or maintaining?
After getting to around 65-64kg (took 1 year, nearly 6st loss) I went down from my highest dose of 7.5mg to 5mg.
I think I’ve lost another 2kg since then but my appetite is quite noticeably reappearing which worries me a lot.
I’m not really sure if I want to lose more (4-5kg perhaps?) but I definitely don’t want to start gaining. The whole process was not easy, jab or no jab I have been making lots of sacrifices and want to keep hold of my newly achieved slender form and enjoy being normal and wearing regular size clothes. I was hoping so much the change would be permanent, I’m dreading getting back to the awful cycle of food bingeing and guilt.

It looks like maintaining is going to be harder than losing. The question is: will I ever manage without MJ?

HelenDenver · 09/10/2026 06:31

That sounds tough @SecondCircuit - is your appetite cravings for anything in particular like
chicolate, or just generally wanting more food?

SecondCircuit · 09/10/2026 07:49

No, not chocolate, as I have never been a sweets person. I will always choose a savoury over sweet. We don’t even have sweet things at home and any chocs received as gifts get lying around for a year or so😅.

It is sadly just stronger appetite, which as in the past I find harder to resist.
For instance, I get hungry earlier in the day. My breakfast has been the same for over a year now: a small bowl of greek yogurt with stewed plums and a few shreddies (5-8). Which works for me and is fine. But then I usually have lunch 13:20 (mostly a small portion of tarka dhal and a small piece of cheddar) and dinner might be salmon, chicken plus veggies. Or avocado on toast plus fried egg.
Now, I get hungry at 11 and struggle to wait till 13. Or like yesterday, I will eat too much in the evening. Had the whole portion of fish, quite a pile of french beans and potatoes. Regular portion. Which I should have resisted and have just fish, very little or no potatoes and some beans.

My problem was always a big appetite. Not emotional eating, not particular cravings, just being hungry. Always bloody hungry. And I can recognize the creeping signs very well and I’m terrified.

HelenDenver · 09/10/2026 08:16

Do you weigh and track calories?

Your food sounds pretty small to me although appreciate my weight is higher so my BMR will be higher.

As a quick interim, would it help to eat the cheddar at 11 and the dhal at 1pm?

HelenDenver · 09/10/2026 08:22

*Weigh food, I meant!
