No minimum calories for me. 7 1/2 stone lost - almost at BMI 25 now, want to lose 1 more stone.

I never eat breakfast and when at work I also don't eat lunch. I thrive on OMAD - One Meal A Day - which i make sure is a vegetable heavy meal (mostly salad this time of year).

I also love an extended fast*. I often skip the meal on Mondays (when I work late) and so have a 48h fast from Sunday night to Tuesday night. Every now and again I extend this to a 72h fast.

  • I should caveat that with the fact I have milk and sweetener (and sometimes a pinch of salt) in my coffee, which I drink throughout fasting. This means my fast days actually involve about 250ml of semi skimmed milk. I also have electrolytes, a multi vitamin and extra Vitamin D every day.
MoneyJo · 18/08/2026 08:41

I'm really having one of those mystery weeks. Not lost anything all week but calories definitely in deficit and keeping steps up to a moderate amount. I am .1 of a pound off dropping into the 15 stone range and it is infuriating!

MooBaggage · 18/08/2026 08:46

Yep I don't calorie count - decided right at the beginning that I'd have enough to content with! I also drink at least 3 x coffees in the morning, with milk and half spoon sugar, so am having some calories even if I'm not hungry and I put Nutrition Geeks collagen in my first coffee so at least I'm starting with protein.

@MoneyJo It's sooooo frustrating when you're nearing a goal/lovely round number! I'm 1lb away from being exactly 12 stone, but the scales are refusing to get there 🙄

Finally though, and at least 2 weeks after I swore I'd get back to it, I did my yoga this morning! 😬 I'm soooooo lazy - have been avoiding it, even though I love it - but enough was enough and now of course I can't wait to do it all over again 🙄 I also half heartedly picked up my hand weights this morning and did a couple of minutes with them - am trying to get back into good habits - why is it so hard to do the right thing..?!

I enjoy exercising and miss it when I don't do it. But if i miss it for more than 3 days, I struggle to get back into it. I am very lazy.
@MooBaggage , i do what you are doing when i try to get back into good habits, i start of small..I would say alright let me do ten 'bird dogs' or plank for 30 secs. The next day i do the same and in the following days i find myself naturally doing more. At the moment, my good habits are on leave. I haven't been feeling too good. I am hoping i get back into working out and being active without the usual struggle.

I calorie count. I don't particularly enjoy it but i have too. I gain weight very easily - a decrease in activity or even eating just 100 - 150 kcals more than i should (say 1350 instead of 1200) over a 1 to 2 week period has me gaining weight.

Maintenance is not going to be easy.

HelenDenver · 18/08/2026 09:55

@MiaN you are getting a lot of answers!

So far this morning I have been to the gym and I'm now eating eggs baked with cottage cheese & cheese (both reduced fat) plus a linseed flatbread for fibre, which kicks me off with about 35g of protein for the day, before I add in protein from skimmed milk in my latte.

I plan the day out in Nutracheck the night before. I might move things around on the day but it helps to separate the 'thinking about food' from the 'preparing and eating food' - eg I had some chopped melon to eat with breakfast as well but I am full so I will have it later as a snack.

MiaN · 18/08/2026 10:04

Yes, I have to say I am really grateful for having this community and I am learning a lot. I love reading the shares here

HelenDenver · 18/08/2026 10:11

Sorry - I meant a lot of answers as in a range of answers - that could have been clearer Grin

HelenDenver · 17/08/2026 15:31

Moved up to 5mg on Friday night and struggling to eat today!

@childfreebychoice do you track muscle mass too? I know it isn't 100% accurate but my scales tell me I have put on 1kg of muscle in the last 8 weeks.

Plus if you ate more carbs and less protein, even if you were within your overall calories, you probably have retained more water. Maybe weigh in a few days (if that wouldn't be stressful) and see if the 1lb is still there.

I don't track muscle mass, but perhaps I should get some scales that do this.

I'm a daily weigher, so was pleased to see that the 1lb had already come off by this morning 🙂

Cheesecake53 · 18/08/2026 18:09

I really recommend getting one @childfreebychoice , seeing the fat percentage going down is so satisfying.

MoneyJo · 18/08/2026 19:08

How do the muscle mass scales work? How do they measure muscle?

HelenDenver · 18/08/2026 19:17

It’s to do with the resistance of the body to a small electrical current. You aren’t supposed to have that function on if you are pregnant.

I will now google a better explanation 😀

Just to say .. as someone who has also ended their journey from size 22 to 8 over 18 months ago.. (maintain on 7.5) I am hoping that my experience will help.

I didn’t experience any side effects except very brief constipation between 7.5 and 10mg. Maybe a couple of days but that was literally it.

However .. with a lot to lose you have almost certainly become obese through insulin resistance. So please don’t get discouraged if you don’t fall into the incredibly unusual bunch of posters that get benefit from 2.5 mg and stay on that for months happily losing 3-4lb a week. It’s not ‘normal’ . If you read the leaflet and follow the actual instructions to the letter you will find that it is genuinely an amazing drug. 2.5 might work for those needing to loser Stone, but it won’t work and shouldn’t work for those of us who had a lot more to lose. 2.5 is what’s called a therapeutic dose. It is a tiny dose designed to ensure your body is happy to tolerate the drug. They are very few instances where this is not appropriate but it is absolutely necessary. You would Normally not lose anything much in the first month. In second month you will increase to 5 mg. You may notice a bit of appetite suppression. Personally It did nothing for me at all. I didn’t really feel any real difference until I got to 7.5 mg so that’s two months until I got my first inkling of the magic this drug makes happen. However, those first eight weeks are really important. Your body is learning to absorb the GLP 1. My weight loss began in week eight albeit very slowly. Perhaps 4 lb in The third month. However, when I increased to 10 mg, everything started to happen and whoosh. It started to fall off.

I began in April 2024, didn’t really start to lose weight until June, however by going up the doses until 15 mg, and staying there for 5 months I shed 7 stone. Was never hungry. Ate protein first every meal and whatever else I could manage in order . So for example ; small salmon, watercress and maybe 5 new potatoes meant .. all salmon first, then watercress, then potatoes as many as I could comfortably manage . TBH I didn’t usually get to the potatoes..

Once at goal (BMI 22.5) I rotated down to a place where I could eat more and maintain my weight without losing or gaining . For me that was 7.5mg but everyone is different .

only writing this because I am so happy to be ‘normal’ again. No BP meds , cholesterol statins, osteo arthritis injections in to my knees. To be able to ride my horse and kayak .. and pick up my
grandchildren .

I would be so disappointed if I had just come to this and tried 2.5 of 5 or 7.5 and given up believing it wouldn’t work for me - which can be an impression easily gained from social media.

wow this is incredible!
I took my first jab on Sunday and getting to where you are feels impossible currently.

MoneyJo · 19/08/2026 07:45

I'm actually pretty frustrated now. I've stuck to calories, kept up my (not huge, but consistent!) number of steps and resisted treats. I'm half a pound up on yesterday and haven't lost anything for 8 days. I usually lose a couple of pounds most weeks.

MooBaggage · 20/08/2026 06:43

@MoneyJo I hear you... I also know I'm under-caloried most days and weeks, but some weeks it just doesn't show on the scales. I hope for you it's the same as with me though, that with MJ, we keep going and don't throw the towel in (like I did so many times in the past). It will shift - I'm posting this morning re: my first lb off in August and it's the blooming 20th..! Last week after coming back from Spain I was 4lbs up! 🤦‍♀️

13.1.25 SW 20st 3lbs BMI 43.0
20.8.26 CW 12st 1lb BMI 25.7

5lbs to go until a BMI of 24.9 - my God I am crawling towards it...! I'm feeling much better having reduced my MJ dose to 13.5mg and will get back to 12.5mg from next week.

Next mini goal = hitting 12st exactly and then one more lb to get into the 11 stones which is where I will stay for the foreseeable future and have never been as an adult!

Onwards and downwards - fast or slow... 💪💪💪💪

Thanks @MooBaggage it's reassuring to read your story, especially as I started just a pound lighter than you so we are in the same ballpark. I am now still 4 stone heavier than you but you do assure me that all being well I can follow your trajectory.

I do know that upping exercise will make a difference too and once my youngest goes to uni next month I will have more time to myself for this.

MoneyJo · 20/08/2026 07:01

I don't suppose anyone has one of these?

Very reasonable, good reviews and I could watch TV while on it. I did look at rejoining the gym but two months gym membership would cover this.

MooBaggage · 20/08/2026 08:46

No sorry - I had a walking pad but (a) fell off it and hurt my toe and then (b) lost the remote control and have never used it again - it's under my bed where it can't stare at me.... 🙄

I've got an actual bike and promised myself I'd start using it from May 2026 - used it once and that's also making me feel guilty! I can't get excited about cardio, so console myself with at least doing yoga and handweights..!

OP posts:
MoneyJo · 20/08/2026 08:53

Ah you are as successful as me @MooBaggage !

On a plus note... I finally dropped a pound today after 9 days at the same weight. So I am officially under 16 stone for the first time in living memory. 15st13. Phew!

MooBaggage · 20/08/2026 08:54

Yay!!! Congratulations!! Love going down a number - so satisfying 😃

Great stuff @MoneyJo

There’s an untouched exercise bike in the garage for me… I did use it in the old house but we moved 5 years ago!

HelenDenver · 22/08/2026 05:59

Weigh in this morning after first week on 5mg… 1kg lost this week which makes it 9.7kg in total. So close to the 10kg! But I’ll get there next weigh in, I hope 🙂 🤞

Made a nice beef dish last night, left out the pasta and had it with a wrap instead 😋

Lozza09 · 22/08/2026 08:11

Hello, I’m new here. I started my MJ journey in April this year and have lost around 2 stone since starting. I have another 5 stone to lose.

I feel like my weight loss has been slow, I’m in a calorie deficit and really mindful of what I’m eating but was hoping when I started MJ that it would be quicker to come off. 😔

MooBaggage · 22/08/2026 08:37

Hi @Lozza09 👋😊

Sounds like you're losing about half a stone a month, which is a really decent loss and rate of losing - but I know what you mean when you see others losing tons at the start of taking MJ. I keep telling myself that comparison is the thief of joy! You're doing really well 💪💪💪

Things that tend to kick-start weight loss for me - upping my water drinking to 3 x litres a day, eating mainly protein with veg, cutting right back on carbs and upping my handweights/exercise routine - all v boring, but if I have a good week and get all of it right every day, it usually does the trick!

Hopefully being on MJ has banished any thought of giving up and buying a wheelbarrow full of Haribo and gin and blowing it - keep going and celebrate every one of those lbs lost 💪❤️💪❤️

OP posts:
MoneyJo · 22/08/2026 08:51

@Lozza09 2 stone in 4 months is spot on, I think. It's much healthier to lose at that rate. How much are you losing a week now?
