Can you have a word with a nurse, she might ask her to turn it down for you x

user593 · 19/06/2026 20:19

@Billybingbong Are you taking minoxidil tablets or using a topical version? The tablets looked interesting but I’m also having laser hair removal and fear it may promote all the growth I’m paying rather a lot to get rid of as well!

Oh @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne, hospitals are hell aren't they? So loud. There's always something bleeping or someone waking you up or other people's conversations and TV shows in the background. The lack of quiet and the lack of privacy is torture, even though you know it's the best and safest place for you to be. Good luck! Can you get someone to bring you some noise cancelling headphones? They've been a blessing to me just coping with my very noisy family and guitar playing husband - I wish I'd had them when I last had a spell in hospital!

eibbed999 · 19/06/2026 20:42

I've been on the minoxidil since Jan now @Billybingbong and I am starting to think it's working, especially with the new growth around the sides. I'd love for it to get thicker at the crown and to not have a pony that looks more likes a rat's tail than a horse's, but hopefully that will improve with time. It does take a long time and you do need to be consistent, but I think it's working!

I started off using the Hair & me drops, then changed to Regaine foam. I think the foam or drops makes it easier to directly target the problem areas, rather than the tablet (which I couldn't take any way because of my dodgy blood pressure).

@eibbed999 I was wondering how you were getting on with it, I'm glad its starting to work for you. I've got loads of regrowth around the hairline, and the thinnest patch is starting to sprout new life, so I'm hoping it's on the turn

user593 · 19/06/2026 22:36

@Billybingbong Oh, I have dodgy blood pressure too (which is one of the reasons I’m on this journey!). I read the foam isn’t great if you have pets but sounds like it’s worth looking into properly. Thank you!

I'm being discharged next Sunday, woohoo! Two and a half long months have an end in sight. I'm feeling much more clear headed and positive.

eibbed999 · 20/06/2026 13:06

I've talked on here before about my flare ups of plantar fasciitis, which have really been crippling in the last year or so. Every time I've seen anybody about it - physio, osteopath etc - they've taken one look at me and said yeah, you've got PF (weigh is a contributory factor). I was starting to think maybe it wasn't PF though because the symptoms weren't quite right, and all the exercises I was given for it seemed to make it worse. So I shelled out to see a private physio who actually uses ultrasound to diagnose, as well as history and physical exam. Well that was the best £85 I ever spent. Lo and behold, I have a small bone spur and also a calcification problem on my Achilles tendon. Weight can be a factor, but he thinks it's built up since I broke my ankle and had surgeries on it (the other foot) - for almost a year I was putting way more pressure on the left foot while the right one recovered, and as a result, it's a bit knackered. So there are no quick fixes, but I've started some physio (I was right - the ones I'd been given were actually aggravating the Achilles at the lowest bit, where it inserts into the heel bone.) There are other option, like shockwave therapy, and if that fails a small surgical procedure - can't afford to pay for that myself but at least if we get to that stage I'll be able to go to my GP and explain. Though going to the GP in my case is nigh on impossible as appointments are like gold dust. Anyway. Just thought I'd share - I'd been increasingly despairing, and felt like I wasn't being listened to at all. This guy was very thorough and showed me the pictures on the ultrasound. The others I'd seen (and also paid for - this dodgy foot has cost me a fortune in appointments, physio, insoles, you name it I've tried it!) really did just assume it was PF straight away. There's a lot of talk about health inequality and health misogyny - I think there's a very clear fat person inequality too. I'm not an idiot, I know it does contribute to loads of things, I know it's not healthy - but sometimes we do just get written off because of it.

EnterSandfan · 20/06/2026 13:28

@eibbed999 totally agree, I've often found GPs to be instantly dismissive for most things, and I hardly ever go to them so it's not like I'm being a hypochondriac or anything! Glad you got some answers

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne definitely tell a nurse the TV is too loud, I can't stand how inconsiderate some people are. Hope you're out of there soon

@PearlsTeapot oh fantastic, I'm so pleased for you! 🎉🎉

Woo! Only about half a lb off for me this week, but I've tipped just under the 200lb mark! I've been weighing daily this week and obsessing a bit haha. I think I'll be more excited when I'm safely a few lbs under 200 but it was indescribably strange logging this in MFP and typing a 1 instead of a 2 for the first time ever. Can't quite compute it tbh

Great @EnterSandfan - it must feel surreal!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/06/2026 14:00

@EnterSandfan Oh happy day! It's so great to see the numbers in front of you isn't it!

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne Hope the move went okay and you're settled closer to home. And of course that they get you well soon .

@PearlsTeapot WahooooO! What sonderful news!

@eibbed999 So glad you got that. I have realised so much since being smaller (still a stone overweight! ) just how much there is that fat person inequality and how different life is in this (admittedly still overweight) body ...

I hit 10 stone loss and then have put on a couple of pounds. My weight has not being doing a lot the last 4-6 weeks but I was quite ill myself (came off antibiotics recently) and started HRT about 5 weeks ago. As well as not sleeping well. I went up 0.5 on the mounjaro but will let all this settle a bit before going up any more.

I seriously need to get moving again. I am literally classed as sedentary now and this time last year I was gettin so active!

Billybingbong · 20/06/2026 16:06

@PearlsTeapot best news ever, I am so happy for you 💕

NSV, I'm in Manchester to see Take That (whoop whoop, I've waited six months for this), and the train journey was so uneventful, it was bliss. No squishing past people, struggling to fit in the seats, worrying about spilling into someone else's space. It was just 'normal'. The last time I did the same journey, I was wedged into the seat, and could barely move, what a difference!

And, we have decided to walk to the stadium, about 45mins walk. I couldnt walk for more than 5 mins 18 months ago!

52soon · 20/06/2026 16:20

I started a walking group 6 weeks ago, walk to 5K and today completed my first 5K park walk. Also dropped 1lb this week after 3 weeks of no movement! I get 10 weeks gym membership with this walking course that starts next week so will be attempting the gym first time in about 15 years.

I really relate to what you say about walking - I actively seek out opportunities to walk places now rather than tolerating it if necessary. My car went in for a service yesterday, the garage is about a mile or so from my work, in the past I've either gone on my day off (which felt like such a waste of time) or got a colleague to pick me up/drop me off, but yesterday it seemed like such a no-brainer to walk from the garage to work and back again!

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 20/06/2026 16:47

Nice little loss again this week - 1.1kg (when I first woke up it was 0.8kg, then I went back to bed for a bit and weighed again before I got dressed and had somehow lost another 0.3kg so I'm going with that one!). I got very confused when jabbing last night as there didn't seem to be the right amount left in the pen, but I think either I had way more 'leftover' medicine at the end of the pen than I thought, or I didn't get the amount right last week (I'd forgotten I would need a syringe last week to get my full dose of 6.25mg from a 5mg pen as I was close to the end and I had run out of syringes - had to force the pen but then found it very difficult to count clicks so not sure how much I actually had). Anyway, I figured it out in the end and am feeling good!

Ooh enjoy! I’m seeing them in London next weekend, so excited!

AlicesMum2025 · 20/06/2026 18:13

Thanks for all the compliments about my wedding outfit. I've never been able to wear a jumpsuit before but it was so flattering when on that I almost couldn't believe it.

@PearlsTeapot I'm over the moon for you.

@eibbed999 Yes, the fat discrimination is very real. I've always thought that you could go the dr with a bad thumb and they'd still find a way to blame it on being overweight. Earlier in the year I went to a community physio about my bad knee. She said I have early stage arthritis but that she couldn't (wouldn't) refer me to the hospital physio because they would only tell me to lose weight. Bearing in mind I'd lost about six stone by then! One of my goals, as well as being normal BMI, is that my weight is never a topic of conversation with medical professionals again.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I remember when I was in hospital a few years ago that the noise was really difficult to deal with. I found the constant comings and goings and general hubbub so overwhelming that I felt like I couldn't think straight. I was there for two weeks and when I finally got home the peace and quiet was heavenly. Just remember that where you are now is only temporary and hopefully you'll be home soon.

eibbed999 · 20/06/2026 18:35

It's infuriating really @AlicesMum2025 - I also think it's deeply unfair. Fat people deserve health care, we pay taxes, we contribute to society. They don't turn around to someone who injured themselves ski-ing or playing football or whatever and say 'I'm sorry, but you were engaging in behaviour that puts your health at risk.'

In 2024 I was in hospital for a month. The first two weeks were on a busy general hospital ward, and they were hell (though I did make a few friends, as you do when you're sharing horrific experiences!) - the noise levels were overwhelming. The second two weeks were in my own room, and I actually cried when I got moved to it. So peaceful, my own telly, it was amazing. Then they said they needed the room and I had to go back on a ward, and I discharged myself - there was just no way my mental health would have coped. So I went home a bit earlier than I should, but survived to tell the tale. By their nature hospitals are deeply chaotic places.

I LOVE this for you! It's the NSVs that make it all worth it isn't it? And 45 mins is no easy task, well done you. Have the best night!

PearlsTeapot · 20/06/2026 19:41

@EnterSandfan thrilled for you! What a joy to be in the 1s not 2s.

EnterSandfan · 20/06/2026 21:44

@PearlsTeapot thank you :) to be honest I had some chocolate this morning then husband made big gooey cookies and I've had a couple of those already, so I'm prob back over 200 again now 😆

Billybingbong · 21/06/2026 00:24

Wow wow wow, Take That were bloody amazing. For anyone yet to go, you are in for one hell of a treat 💕

Added bonus, I've done 20,000 steps, 9.32 miles. I hope it shows on the scales this week
